I didn't even think of how much monochromatic with mixed textures is one of my favorite ways to dress until I saw this. I am a huge fan of red as the accessory color with black. But also black with black. But with navy, I also like some tone variation. Ah! This is so good. And I love the size inclusivity.

Tonal dressing is also my favorite way to dress right now, even though I don’t usually wear neutrals. Just rewatched and you are making me appreciate BROWN. Brown has so much potential to lean warm or cool, lightor dark, intense or muted. I think I will give myself a brown challenge this week. What fun! Thanks again.
Thanks for another thought provoking video. And thanks for helping us get even more out of the wardrobe we already have. ❤️ 💲❤️💲❤️💲❤️💲❤️ This year, I have invested more 💲 in accessories and invested more time ⏳ in picking and using accessories. Yesterday I noticed that when it was too warm to wear my salmon color raincoat, I felt like just carrying it impacted my outfit that had the same color shoes and base layer top. My pants and cardigan were a warm medium brown. My purse was avocado with beading that included brown and salmon beading and I carried a large avocado bucket tote. I was shocked that carrying my coat made me feel so much more put together than if I had left my coat in my car. That just blew me away. I had only recently become aware of how much what I carry is perceived as part of my outfit. I had invested in some solid colors of insulated shopping bags and I keep them in the trunk of my car for grocery shopping. Surprise: I started reaching for the colors that complemented my outfit that day, especially if I am walking around the corner for milk or walking a couple of blocks to pick up carryout food. Even if my tote just matches my flipflops and sunglasses on my way to the beach, it lifts my spirits in a way that I really don't care if anyone else notices. It just makes me feel fun and exuberant. That little lift from picking the matching tote out of the stack of six in my car makes that little bit of difference in my mood. And my mood is what I present to everyone I encounter. And that makes a difference. 1% better is still a difference. And it can make a difference starting from standing a block away from someone as you're waving and approaching each other. I love that your videos are reinforcing and expanding these ideas for me.
GAH I love your channel so much! The ideas you have is amazing. I just started appreciating monochromatic looks since staying at a hotel with A LOT of wealthy people, it was a common feature and they always looked SOOO GOOD. The mixing textures and tones is amazing and got my fashion juices flowing As someone who is always soft-formal. I still struggle with accessories though, would love a deep dive for accessorising with different colour palettes and how to really make an outfit.
You know what I watched this video twice *and took a page and a half of notes* Possibly the best style RUclips video I’ve ever seen. Well organized, well written, has actual substance without being overly prescriptive or constrained to the creator’s own style. Seriously well done.
You and Joe and your editor smashed it out of the park with this video. Beautiful pieces of clothing that suit you so well; excellent outfit footage; clear explanations. Great brand integration too. I'll definitely be watching this again when I'm building outfits again. I go through a period of clothing playtime where I test outfits with my own clothes and document the combinations. And I need another one of those sessions again soon Thank you for your inspirational work and for sharing your knowledge with us, Hannah 🌷🌷
These videos are so great! Better than great, honestly totally transformative. The first video on monochromatic dressing and the two-color outfit video helped me finally figure out how to incorporate colors other than black into my wardrobe for the first time at the young age of 38.
As ever youve inspired me to try something new. Since your declutter video I’ve decided to wear every single piece of clothing I own over the coming months to determine if I like them and feel good in them, or if I just wish I did. I started doing something you suggested months ago, to wear only two colors at a time. And I’ve been learning a lot through that about my wardrobe, preferences, and styling. Now to try the monochromatic!
Your videos and posts on monochromatic dressing have been the single biggest influence on my style in the past year. Thank you so much! Love these looks. 😊
As a shoe admirer, those brown, leather sling-backs are incredible. The height is so striking and they are so sleek, while still feeling timeless. Gorgeous!
I love tonal dressing! I hate matching looks, but what i love is the matching color and mixing texture idea. I love how hearty and meaty your videos are! I fell full thanks to you!! ❤😊
i've recently come across your fashion content, and im officially obsessed! now that i'm trying to reevaluate my wardrobe and step it up, your videos are so helpful and i have so many notes written down purely from your advice!
I’ve tried monochromatic dressing thanks to you and I love it! I did a pink look and a green look. Somehow this led me to pops of contrast in accessories, like a cobalt blue purse with the green outfit a bright teal green purse with the pink. Thanks for the inspiration
You've pretty much defined how I have dressed myself instinctively for as long as I've been making my own choices, lol. My biggest struggles in this is the desire to have accessories in every neutral I love to wear (which includes way less black than it used to) and the fact that I can't wear shoes that do not provide cushion, much less a heel of any kind. That aside it truly is pretty easy to create a lot of variety within these common rules. Bravo and beautifully illustrated. I have been stalking those green silk pants since I first saw them over a year ago. Your videos really showed off the lovely texture and weight of all the silk bottoms and they are now officially on my Christmas list. Thank you Lilysilk!
I don't usually use 'slay' but every time you pose (esp in those sunglasses) I 💀... The suit pose hit and "DAMN!" jumped out of my mouth, in full voice, while sitting at my work desk. It's Fashion Fashion Fashion. It is resurrecting teenage me that bought every Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Love👏🏽it👏🏽
Your clothing videos have helped me so much in re-evaluating my style, what in my closet makes me feel like in the best way, and I love the inclusivity your inspo pictures have!!!! 🎉🎉 I’ve been leaning in to my love for fun pops of colour in my wardrobe colour palette, which is usually what makes me happiest. I do use all four quadrants in your diagram depending on what I have in each of my colours.
This was so fun to watch just to get inspired. The first time I wore a monochromatic black outfit to work, the only comment I got was, "Well, hey there, Johnny Cash!" I will remember that forever! It did scare me off for a few years, but I'm back in now and have been using my color theory and painting background to try to figure out why some things work and others don't. For example, I feel like often, you can use adjacent colors like magenta and coral because they are both intense, and one is darker than the other, but if they had the same relative value, I'm not sure it would work as well for me. It's a balancing act of keeping colors separated only so many ways, by hue or saturation or value, etc., and if you mess with too many of those things at once, it begins to fall apart. Like you said, texture has a visual impact, too, so if you play with extreme texture differences, keep the colors closer together. (Cool, shiny satin and warm, squishy wool? Yes!) The whole thing about making an outfit cohesive to me is about having some common note that is strong enough visually to tie it up and make it look intentional. That can be done without color harmony, too, but color is one of the first things we notice, so monochrome and adjacent colors are one thing that's easy to play with if you are not wearing multicolored pieces that give you hints about what to pair with them. A+, would watch this video again.
I loooove the red outfits with tonal accessories. Also I was recently watching older-ish videos in which you said you wanted to get a blazer, and the white blazer looks incredible on you!!
I LOVE monochromatic dressing. Especially being a petite hourglass it’s very flattering on someone with my frame. I am complimented on my outfits and style regularly. I get the compliment elegantly a lot and monochromatic dressing can definitely do that.
Love the back to back videos ❤ This video is right up my ally as i've been playing with monochromatically dressing in my 4/5 colors ever since I gave myself a strict color scheme in 2020. Mid toned dirty/earthy pink, olive/army green, deep teal, and plum. The only colors outside of this is warm caramel brown in accessories and outwear.
Another banger video! Black on black but different textures is my favourite to play around with in my all black wardrobe. I specifically go hunting for interesting fabric layering options, or even patterns within the woven fabric. Two of my fav pieces are an all black silk Kimono and an all black burnt out velvet Kimono both with different flower motives. I love putting them on over whatever base layer of black I am wearing, because they instantly bring some drama and interest into a look.
Hi Hannah! Seeing a new video of yours pop up always brightens my day more than I can even express. I have a few topics that I would love to hear your take on. First, my intro to your channel was actually your video a long time ago about underwear brands you enjoy😂 and I would love to see an updated take on that, along with undergarments in general. Underwear, bras, socks. How you choose what to invest in, and what brands you enjoy for these types of garments. Second, I feel like we need a deep dive on how you care for all of your garments, especially ones that are “dry clean only” as I know you’ve mentioned in the past that you don’t really dry clean your clothing. Techniques, tips, laundry product recommendations, etc. You provide such a wealth of knowledge on your channel, and I think these topics would really add to your clothing “series”. Keep it up!!❤
Love this video!! I always get compliments when I monochromatic dress. People always say I look put together even if I’m wearing a version of active wear
This is probably why I love wearing jumpsuits. I always throw on a braid color over the jumpsuit. I am here for the monochromatic look. I love how elegant and put together it looks.
I loved your first vid on monochromatic dressing but you definitely outdid yourself with this vid! Can’t wait to coordinate my outfits and be more monochromatic this year! Thank you Hannah! 🧡😘
As a long-time monochromatic multi-textural dresser and advocate, I love this content. As usual, your thoughtful, insightful and articulate commentary on the subject is delightful! However, for me the key to monochromatic dressing is intentionality and individuality. I love to ‘craft’ these outfits. Only two matching items don’t quite meet that intention (for me), especially when they are already a coordinated set. I love to have a third item (minimum) matching, preferably in a contrasting texture or formality level (as you suggest), such that it exudes intentionality and a bespoke character.
This is my favorite style of dressing. I love monochromatic and tonal looks both bright and neutral. Thanks so much for this video. As a petite person, this is my go to fashion💕
I started trying out monochrome outfits with my blue, non-denim tops and my blue jeans! I try my best to match the tone or value and it looks surprisingly chic!
I loved this. I’m already into monochrome dressing, all types that you mentioned. But the specificity you brought to it was so useful. Well done. Thanks.
This has to be one of my all-time favorite videos on YT. We have similar eye, hair, skin tone am I thought maybe I can look that good. Great job Hanna!
Love this. And I also love Lilysilk. I have a pair of the silk trousers that I wear on regular rotation that are fantastic. BUT! Budget for a tailor unless you are at least 5’6”. I’m 5’4” so I had to get them hemmed. In fact I’d argue that your clothes budget should include a cushion for a tailor full stop. It’s not that expensive but it makes a big difference for pants and even jackets for the hems to hit where they’re designed to hit. And if you get 1 pair of pants done professionally you can learn to do at least basic hemming and do it yourself. Well designed pants have a seam allowance to let them be dropped if someone is taller and learning a basic stitch to bring the hem up so… tailoring. It’s worth either the time or money, whichever you want to spend.
Hi, Hannah! I just watched one of your videos (can’t remember which one) where talked about the beautiful long skirt that turned out to be made of crappy material and very expensive-I just saw a very similar looking skirt by Eileen Fisher and it’s made of wool and silk-that’s it. It’s in new arrivals on her website. ❤
So, I always love your videos! Love the quality, the deeper layer of thoughtfulness. Just some hopefully helpful feedback, I felt just a little duped re: so many Lilysilk pieces, just felt a smidge too infomercial-y. Completely fine and I understand re: providing free content, but it did just take my level of trust down a notch.
Thank you so much, Hannah!! I love your thoughts on monochromatic dressing. I have been playing around with my clothes this way for the past few years. It is validating to hear you discuss the positive aspects of tonal dressing and explain how and why it works with such eloquence. I can also see why you love Lilysilk. You look absolutely gorgeous in all these pieces.
Such beautiful outfits! My favorite is the ivory sweater and pants...I might need that outfit for myself. 😉 I've been gravitating towards monochromatic and tonal outfits for the past few years, maybe, but this video has given me some guidance about the role of accessories. Thank you.
The silk skirt has been on my wishlist for awhile. It's so beautiful and the idea of dropping tomato sauce on it and ruining breaks my heart and cannot buy it. It's too precious.
Oh noooo. I just went to check out this brand. My size 14 self does not fit without paying extra for customized pieces that I can’t exchange or return. If you have any opportunity, Hannah, please give them feedback on their lack of size inclusivity. I would have absolutely loved to purchase some items after your amazing demonstration of their beauty and quality. 😢
I second this. As a plus size woman (firmly an 18-22W, brand depending) I’ve spent the last 4 years looking for more “ready to wear” quality natural fiber clothing. This video is a complete slay - I always enjoy your content. It would be amazing if the brand is willing to grow and become more size inclusive 😘
I will pass the feedback along! I believe they have expanded their in-stock size range in some pieces since last year, hopefully it's just the beginning and they'll keep moving in that direction.
perfectly explained Hannah. I have loved monochromatic dressing for years, and tonal monchromatic is my fave. Well done. I hope this video gets just as much traction as the one you made earlier (which I also loved and shared)
Hannah, I feel like we’ve been having this convergent aesthetic evolutions where as I come to a conclusion about my aesthetic, you seemingly post a video sharing your similar or (in this case) same conclusion. When I found your channel, we were both in a phase of absolute maximalism. Print on color blocking on silhouette on volume with grungy Smokey eyes and intense blush, but weirdly even though we don’t directly interact and would assume we have different lifestyles based on careers and location, we both seem to be settling into this sort of chic minimal maximalism era at the same time.
My 2c on avoiding the "accidentally mismatched" color problem is to pair shades that are obviously different, so it looks intentional and playful: khaki army olive green with brighter Kelly green, aqua-ish sea blue with navy. I like this with accessories too: hot pink earrings with neutral brownish tones, etc.
I agree-there is an art to wearing similar colors. Especially when the colors are more similar than your examples, yet still not mismatched. I can recognize when it is done well, but I have trouble doing it myself. The Giorgio Armani spring 2025 runway had beautiful monochromatic outfits of similar-yet not matched-colors. It inspired me to try to create some outfits, and I have not been successful. Your example of a brighter green with a duller green or a lighter blue with a darker blue is so much easier.
"Take the clothes you already own in your closet" ma'am. This is a tremendous misunderstanding of my closet lol. 😂😂😂

Not me wearing a green casual sweater and matching color green trousers when you post this video. Learninggg
You know what I watched this video twice *and took a page and a half of notes*
Possibly the best style RUclips video I’ve ever seen.
And I need another one of those sessions again soon
Thank you for your inspirational work and for sharing your knowledge with us, Hannah 🌷🌷
8:40 OMG, those white pants are DIVINE, I could not love them more, so chic
A gift has been given 🎁
I love all your outfits. It’s very similar to my style and I love that you mix relaxed items in!
Such a good, helpful video! I'm looking at my closet in a whole new way. Tonal dressing while mixing formality will work for me.
Wow, I think the cream suit is my favorite outfit I’ve ever seen you wear. It looks amazing.
I love the logic of your two axes. Its "scientific" take on aesthetics appeals to me.
Love👏🏽it👏🏽
aw THANK YOU 😭
Your clothing videos have helped me so much in re-evaluating my style, what in my closet makes me feel like in the best way, and I love the inclusivity your inspo pictures have!!!! 🎉🎉 I’ve been leaning in to my love for fun pops of colour in my wardrobe colour palette, which is usually what makes me happiest. I do use all four quadrants in your diagram depending on what I have in each of my colours.
These looks (especially the ivory sweater with the silk skirt and the red look)! The wavy bob! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow, every outfit looks so effortless and fabulous on you. The accessories you invested in also seem to be a key.
Sounds like a beautiful color palette.
Great idea. I just bought a black burnt-out beach coverup on clearance that I will try over a LBD or a matching black trouser and tank. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Keep it up!!❤
Hannah I loved every single outfit you styled especially, the white shirt unbuttoned with the white wool pants! And that white sweater OMG
Thank you so much for this. The sponsorship was well earned. You’ve made everything easy and reasonable ❤
I love to have a third item (minimum) matching, preferably in a contrasting texture or formality level (as you suggest), such that it exudes intentionality and a bespoke character.
good advise! thanks!
Your outfits look incredibly elegant Hannah. Loved this video. Thank you ☺️
This is my favorite style of dressing.
This solidified concepts for monochromatic dressing for me in a way nothing else has. What a fantastic mind you have, HLP. ❤
This is definitely one of the best of your videos I've seen. Clear, unique advice that really works.
Loved the overview, here for the subtleties.
A masterpiece, I so wish I had these videos when I was younger and struggling with how to put outfits together. Excited still to update my wardrobe!
Wonderful video! So helpful as much as I love tonal dressing I always feel I never get it quite right. Thank you ❤
Hannah, you are crushing all of these outfits! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this subject. Much appreciation!
This is so so helpful, you have no idea!! You put into words so clearly what I've always struggled with! Thank you, HLP!!
FANTASTIC video! So much thoughtful content, such great outfits, and a new way to take apart a look. You at your best! Well done! 💖💖💖💖💖
I love this Hannah! I like tonal dressing and find it very soothing to the eye. For us petite people tonal dressing is magic.
Love love LOVE everything about this video!! 🥰
Congratulations on the sponsorship! Fantastic content. Love to see it.
Sizing issues here too…I bought several lilysilk pieces but I stopped because only tops fit me (I’m size 20ish).
I will pass the feedback along! I believe they have expanded their in-stock size range in some pieces since last year, hopefully it's just the beginning and they'll keep moving in that direction.
Love these looks with key pieces that are really classic & versatile ❤
perfectly explained Hannah. I have loved monochromatic dressing for years, and tonal monchromatic is my fave. Well done. I hope this video gets just as much traction as the one you made earlier (which I also loved and shared)
Out.STANDING. Well done!
That was a long winded way of expressing that I love this video and have loved seeing your aesthetic evolve.
Very good content. And using sponsorship on a way which really has it's sense and place.
The representation in your example photos literally takes my breath away❤
I love tonal, I’ve really been experimenting with it lately. I always say, it doesn’t have to match, it just has to go!
I remember learning this from Stacy London on What Not to Wear.
