I once bought a double-breasted trench coat that seemed to make me look huge. My ever-chic sister told me to bring it back to the store. She went with me & picked out another double-breasted trench, but with the vertical rows of buttons a bit closer together. It did the trick!
Double breasted coats and jackets add that extra layer of fabric Alice 👍 bringing the buttons closer together would have the effect of merging them into pone vertical line which would help 👍 it sounds like your sister knows what she is about 😃
Your tips are for any age! That puff ball dress looks hideous on any body type at any age except maybe under three years old. Love your work, thank you, Marie-Anne.
Bonjour from Canada 🇨🇦 I am a plus size woman over 60 and you have helped me so much in choosing proper cuts for my body. Thank you for the great videos!
Excellent advice, Marie-Anne. Larger ladies don't need to hide under huge amounts of shapeless clothing since they look fabulous when they wear flattering garments that compliment their figure as featured in this video. Merci 💙
If you have a large bust, be sure that a button down shirt doesn't gap open between the buttons over the bust! Better to get the next size up so the top buttons smoothly and then have the rest of it tailored to fit.😉
hey Marie-Anne I’m Areej from Saudi arabia i’m 48 years old i want to thank you because you Made me regain my self-confidence It also see and appreciate my beauty.❤
I went shopping yesterday at a brick and mortar store which I haven't done in so long. It was fun. I had my style journal with me which was a huge help. You were also whispering in my ear as I was looking at everything that was on sale. So glad you were with me. Merci
Thank you Marie-Anne! My mistake? Buying and wearing the large wide leg slacks! I saw a picture of myself in one pair and was dismayed that with my car coat, l looked like a huge square box!! The slacks weren't too awful when l wore a blazer in the same color, but still were not a good look. I have gone back to my medium width slacks, and l look much slimmer. I have also bought three striped blouses (I love stripes) and wear them often!😊❤
Again, more great information, but along with that, this video is one of your funniest! Marie-Anne, if you hadn't been a stylist, you could have been on the stage. I love your facial expression and your lively manner!. And your comedic sense - that cookie monster image! Your aghast expression superimposed on the pyramid is priceless.
This is definitely one of your very best videos. Wish I could find the brands of the wonderful dresses shown locally in the CT area. You are truly an inspiration!
Merci Robin 🤗 I add links in the description although I know that a lot of people prefer to shop in brick and mortar stores to help their local economy 🙏
Thank you Marie- Anne. I am a plus size woman. Watching your videos has helped me so much. Every time I get dressed I think about your tips. Very helpful.
Currently I own (and wear) a cropped faux fur jacket. It’s leopard print and so soft. It may make me look larger, but I feel great wearing it & I always get compliments. Although I agree with you, I’m making an exception with this jacket because it makes me happy and actually makes me feel more confident 😊 Enjoying your videos ❤
Ah Laura - there you have it - to all rules there are exceptions 😃 nothing is more beautiful than a confident woman and that happens when her inner and outer style align 🙏
The examples are all on plus size models but I feel this advice is also important for petites, because clothes that make us look wider also make us look shorter, and out of proportion. The Cookie Monster jacket made me laugh out loud!
I’m plus size with an hour glass figure. I’m 5 feet 2 inches and nothing fits well without alterations. The nape of the neck to waistline measurement is always two inches too long. Sleeves are also too long. Button front blouses always gape at the breastbone.
Love that you featured the Starry Sequin Lace Fit n Flare dress as an example of what to wear! I bought it in the blue this summer for a wedding and received so many compliments. I’m 67 and a little bit hippy and it looked gorgeous on me. 💙
Good grief - that Cookie Monster top. I shake my head at some of the hideous designs that the fashion industry offers plus sized women - and petites too while I"m at it! As a petite who is also poorly served by the fashion industry I have immense empathy with plus-sized ladies. I may be paranoid but I wonder if it's carelessness or if designers actually *want* us to feel bad about ourselves so we'll keep buying, feeling crappy about how we look, and then buying something else. Funnily enough there are some styles that make even tall and slender fashion models look shorter and wider than they are. I always ask myself "if it makes the model look terrible, what hope do *I* have?"
I loved this video as always. As a plus size over 60 woman, it's frustrating to find so many clothes in those tent like shapeless styles. I love stylish clothes so it can take quite a lot of time to find flattering clothes. Great tips for plus size of any age. I adore the colour of your shirt. I'm Irish and really enjoy your videos.
Bonjour Maria 😃 as I always say hold out for the Wow - never settle for 'that will do' and your style will love you for it. You are doing the right thing by taking your time 👏
I'm currently on the lookout for a nice stylish winter coat. I would like a wool coat in a good quality fabric. So much of what I've seen so far looks cheap and poor quality. I will be holding out until I get one with the "wow" factor. ❤ @MarieAnneLecoeur
Ah, my Sunday style fix! Merci! It was a revelation to me in your book to learn about optical illusions in dressing/ style. It takes courage to do it some days as I have terrible body dismorphia, but it always works! 🎉❤ merci again
Merci Gretchen - I hope that by following my advice you will begin to come arounf to the view that your body is uniqe and beautiful just the way you are made 🙏
I bought the pink wrap shirt with the collar as soon as I saw it in this video last week. It’s lovely! Well constructed and very flattering. The deep pink works well with my olive skin tone. It wraps far enough around that I won’t have to use Hollywood Fashion Tape. Thank you!
Hi from New Zealand. I'd love to show this video to those tv stylists who think the only way to dress an older woman is to put her in a chunky sweater and throw a huge scarf on top. I've seen examples of that from all over the world & presume the stylists are young & think we need hiding.
Embracing who we are - for the size and shape we are but dressing flatteringly is the best way forward Lesley 🙏 we should not hide away - we are unique and the world needs to see it 😃
Totally agree with you, Marie Ann - all of that pieces of cloths should never see the daylight! They're simply awful. I like black&white outfit with vertical stripes and that gorgeous wool coat😊
Cela faisait un peu de temps jusque j’ai regardé vos vidéos. Vous me manquez, et je suis heureuse de les regarder encore. Vous êtes très bien merci beaucoup- chapeau!
I'm so glad I'm a petite person. Sorry I've been busy with politics here in America! So I'm over watching all the news channels right now. But Marie Anne you always have wonderful advice!
Thank you for these helpful tips to look more slender. I appreciate all the effort that you put into your production, and I especially love the funny graphics, such as the Egyptian pyramid with her head in the middle. Ha. I will certainly look for flattering styles when I shop; it is too easy to be tempted by all the trendy styles that do not show me to my best advantage. Who needs to look like a puff ball, indeed?
You are looking as lovely as ever Marie-Anne 😊. Thank you for yet another wonderful video. My favourite is the black wrap top, always a winner. My favourite this last year has been the shirt maker style dress. I particularly like having a collar and being able to change the look with alternative belts. I have been listening to a book written in the 40’s referring to colourless women 😮. With all your wonderful advice we will certainly avoid being labeled as such. Thank you as always 🤗💖Sally S.🇳🇿
I was SO happy to see flare-leg pants available this past couple of seasons. I haven't purchased pants for a couple of years since I could only find cropped/skinny styles.
Look for boot cut jeans in western riding brands. Made to go on the outside of western riding boots. Not too flared and fitted nicely around the hips and thighs.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur My daughter has a 36” inseam. That’s the only store that carries women’s jeans to 40” inseam for the tall ladies. They also have larger sizes for the curvy cowgirls in jeans that look good and feminine on a woman.
I work in retail, and a woman my age, 55, was looking for skinny jeans because she wanted to be in style.. she asked for my advice.. I told her skinny jeans are not a good idea for anyone.. I steered her to the flared jeans as they are my preferred as well! She was skeptical because she wanted to be hip like the kids.. but decided to try them on.. she absolutely loved them and thanked me for steering her away from the skinny jeans!
Marie-Anne, this time I am not fully d'accord with you, when it comes to the dresses. The first recommendation (fit and flair, black) would make me look like a barrel (been there, done that). The horizontally striped dress has a very good shape that overcomes the negative effect of the stripes, I would actually wear it, but maybe with a short rectangular jacket in black or in a contrasting colour.. Whereas the long striped dress makes the lady look bigger than she is, I find it ill fitted to her body. But the red and pink recommended dresses: Absolument merveilleux! Mille amitiés de l'Autriche! ❤
Bonsoir Marie-Anne, I discovered your channel last week, seen a lot of your video's now. I really like your style and love the way you explain and give good tips and ideas to your viewers. Thank you! Barbara in Portugal.
Thank you, Marie-Anne. You always give wonderful advice! I was wondering where I could purchase the beautiful purple blouse you are wearing in this video. I just love the vibrant color, but haven’t been able to find that color here. Thank you.
That red ruffle dress looks like a tent indeed. No waist definition. It s eaten her. Iblove your choises. My fit and flair dresses are my all time favorites. Grate video
Such good advice although I have to admit, I liked the colour of the faux fur cropped top 😂. Purple is your colour and doesn't your hair make you look very cheeky and gorgeous. ❤
Bonjour Marie-Anne. I recently bought a dark, knee-length denim skirt with a front slit, from Mango (possibly the same as one you told us about in a video, a while ago?) and I've noticed it makes me look a bit slimmer and also longer in the leg. I like this skirt 😊
Good evening, Marie-Anne, I enjoyed another time your video full of humourous, funny, and very valuable Tipps. I like them even still in my age. Please don't stop them👏💇
Bonjour Marie-Anne I am a bit late in my viewing this time, but I have to say it’s a very informative one, amazing how a change of style can alter the whole appearance. I must comment on your hair Marie-Anne I’m thinking you have visited the young man at your new hairdresser, love the cut and the feathery fringe, plus your blouse and trousers looked really good, I keep popping these ideas in my style journal. Thank you.
Hello from the USA! I really enjoy your videos. I have to admit that I really liked the red flowy dress. (The one that "shouldn't see the light of day"🤣) You look great in that purple top you have on.
Hello Marie-Anne. Loved this will share it with a friend of mine will be very helpful for her. Love your top and colour. Lately I've been wearing softer colours they seem to suit me better. I always use to wear jewel tones they now appear to be to strong lately. Always love your sense of humour. Your hair and skin is beautiful your glowing Thank you for another wonderful video xx
Excellent work and I agree with everything. I am a great fan of the striped shirt as it is so versatile. And I am slowly becoming a fan of the flare jeans after I bought a pair that look fantastic (and my husband likes them too). Thank you for sharing this information! 🦩🌴☀️😍😊☺️🥰❤️
First time viewer, 55yo, from the southern US. All my life I've been "overweight", so I came here looking for a fight lol. I remember shopping with my mom once and when she said, "you should wear black - it makes you look slimmer", I responded with, "How much slimmer, mom? 10 lbs? 20lbs? Oh great - then I'll only look 50lbs overweight, that should change everything!" Only 6 minutes into the video, and not mad yet. Paused at the "dramatic ruffled gown" because it reminds me of a quote attributed to Zsa Zsa Gabor regarding why she loved the similarly shaped tent dress: "because I look so good when I take it off!" Yeah, IDK who that shape flatters. Just finished and not mad: very reasonable, well explained tips to get a more polished, elegant look, but can also be applied to everyday wear. Not only am I older, but I've recently lost 140lbs (about 40 more to go), and feel like I'm having to find myself after a 35 year coma. I haven't dressed to express my own style since I was a teen and decades of just dressing to fit in, fit my position, or just having clothes that fit is a hard habit to break, and my wardrobe reflects that awkwardness. I've got a new body, a new lifestyle, and a new confidence. At 55 I don't have to impress anybody, I can say whatever I want with my clothes. I like the way you have worded things here - you didn't set any "don't wear this" rules, just explained why, if you are trying to avoid looking bigger, certain styles will work against you. There are 2 things I've always associated with looking elegant/classy: 1) clothes that fit you so well they look tailor made, and 2) clothes that look made to go together. Even at my largest I tried to avoid overly baggy clothing and stuck to just loose enough to not accentuate every fat roll and lump.
Bonjour EPowell and a Big French Chic Welcome to you - it makes me very happy that you found the video a positive experience 🤗 my philosophy and that of authentic French Chic is that you can express your style at any age, size and shape you just have to know what suits and flatters you and then add in your personality 😃 and I show you how to do that in my various videos 😘 I hope you will come back for more 🙏
I just found this video come up in my feed! And subscribed immediately I’m thick curvy. Not plump and I CANNOT stand the clothing options for women my size (12-14) like the blouse at 9:24. I wish I had behaved and continued to learn to make my own clothes like my mother was teaching me how to do
Bonjour and welcome 🤗 the lack of good styles is very disheartening but you must hold out for the Wows as and when you find them. That way your wardrobe will improve little by little 😃👍
Great advice 👍 love the cookie monster but not as my jacket 😂 I found that M&S has lovely cross-over shirts this season. Unfortunately, only in 2 colours.

Not any more, thankfully! When I was younger, I made mistakes with loose boho dresses, I looked like wearing a tent, and 15kgs heavier!
These ladies are big which is fine.
I once bought a double-breasted trench coat that seemed to make me look huge. My ever-chic sister told me to bring it back to the store. She went with me & picked out another double-breasted trench, but with the vertical rows of buttons a bit closer together. It did the trick!

Double breasted coats and jackets add that extra layer of fabric Alice 👍 bringing the buttons closer together would have the effect of merging them into pone vertical line which would help 👍 it sounds like your sister knows what she is about 😃
One of the happiest days of my life was the day I found a petite length, single breasted trench coat that wasn’t beige (not a good color for me).

Yes indeed Joanne - I have seen some button downs with an extra modesty button or you can easily add one yourself or even a press stud 😃
Yes. Or have hooks and eyes added.
It is, I think, a style that I avoid altogether as a woman with a large bust. It isn't worth the fuss and bother of constantly "checking" one's front.
Love it when you compare differences side by side. Merci, Marie-Anne. 💋

Bonjour Marie-Anne. I recently bought a dark, knee-length denim skirt with a front slit, from Mango (possibly the same as one you told us about in a video, a while ago?) and I've noticed it makes me look a bit slimmer and also longer in the leg. I like this skirt 😊
That is wonderful Nicky 😃
Nice color blouse, Marie Anne.

Thank you.
I have indeed Shirley 😃 keep up with the style journaling 😃👍
Hello from the USA! I really enjoy your videos.
I have to admit that I really liked the red flowy dress. (The one that "shouldn't see the light of day"🤣)
You look great in that purple top you have on.
💜 At first sight it looks lovely Joanie but when you see what it does to the models beautiful figure 🙁
Beautiful shirt Marianne it looks stunning on you

Waw! Amazing hair Marie-Anne! You look very bright and fresh in this video.

Great video. Also I haven't heard the phrase elephant pants since I was a child. I'm in the US. 😁

The most precious lesson from you was: If it's not a wow, it's a no. Thanks, this is the guide for me when I shop clothes and shoes.

Hello Marie-Anne. Loved this will share it with a friend of mine will be very helpful for her. Love your top and colour. Lately I've been wearing softer colours they seem to suit me better. Merci Jacqui - a share is a big French Chic Hug 🤗
Excellent work and I agree with everything. I am a great fan of the striped shirt as it is so versatile. And I am slowly becoming a fan of the flare jeans after I bought a pair that look fantastic (and my husband likes them too). Thank you for sharing this information! 🦩🌴☀️😍😊☺️🥰❤️
You are very welcome Katrina 🤗
That is such a beautiful color on you!
Merci Evelyn 💜
Great video Marie-Anne and I love your hair!

And subscribed immediately
I’m thick curvy.
That way your wardrobe will improve little by little 😃👍
Love your channel, regards from Finland
Kiitos paljon! 😃
Great advice 👍 love the cookie monster but not as my jacket 😂
I found that M&S has lovely cross-over shirts this season. Unfortunately, only in 2 colours.
I will take a look Bibi - merci for the recommendation 😃
