This guy seriously is frickin amazing totally love the work and effort to put this together. I can't even imagine how much time and effort it took so killer!
I didn't make it very far beyond "The Head On The Door" before The Cure and I parted ways. But the records that came before that are *still* stamped on my soul, and always will be. The first four notes of "Faith" *still* give me the chills, and I am immediately transported back to my youth. Even just mentioning it here will probably guarantee that I end up listening to it straight after. When someone has touched your soul, you never forget them.
Same for me, I only ever saw the original line up, but I love the fact that they went on to develop such a huge and loyal following of all types of people.
What's interesting is that the Cure was making this music back in the 70's & 80s; talk about being ahead of the curve! In the 80's and 90's it was mostly college radio stations playing their music & now they are EVERYWHERE. I even heard them recently play the Cure at the grocery store i go to, dare i say that they have become hugely popular? What's great and commendable is the fact that they NEVER SOLD OUT. Nothing but RESPECT for the Cure.
man you've edited all these footages is such a brilliant way. I wanted to thank you for this, the cure is my favorite band so seeing all your work is an absolute gift for me. a hug from Brasil
Absolutely brilliant!! In my early 50s now have always loved the cure and they never sound old - just better. Makes me sentimental..... best documentary!!! Thanks so much from Melbourne 👍
Been a Cure fan since their first album Boys Don't Cry in the 70s and never EVER stopped listening to their amazing music. Saw them in 2019, a bucket list moment. So much to say about this incredulous band. Remember many a night listening to Faith, Seventeen Seconds, Disintegration, Head On A Door, Pornography, God it goes on. Even in my teens I really 'got' this band for some reason and their musical approach. I became obsessed by their music. There's so much misunderstanding about this band and I'm sure The Cure are sick to death with much of it. Their canon is a LOT more varied than the casual observer realises. They have some of the most pure, gorgeous pop songs ever done by anybody and then there's really deep songs, most of which are centred around love (which always amuses me when people think they're a depressive slash my wrists band which they are TOTALLY not). At least 90% of their songs are love songs, yes they might be deep, but they're really beautiful. Then there's Smith's guitar playing and vocal which are just stellar (you know in the first 5secs it's a Cure song, so amazing to own your sound like that), then there's Gallup's incredible bass playing which is so important to the Cure sound. Then there's the glacial keyboard washes, tight, thoughtful drumming and I could go on. It's a nearly 45 year love affair with this band, so good I dug them as much as I did. Thanks boys, you're totally amazing.
@@patrickgerardin5001 You are 100% correct and I stand corrected. It had a complicated release history and it was the first release for The Cure in the US before Three Imaginary Boys. Boys Don't Cry was my first Cure album.
@@pvkoz8698 No he's not, you were correct. Don't give in to people that find it necessary to be pedantic about things they obviously don't know enough about! They are essentially the same album - Boys Don't Cry is the re-release of Three Imaginary Boys for the American market. The track listing is different, and it was a later release, yes, but if you live(d) in the US, BDC is The Cure's first album.
@@patrickgerardin5001 boys don't cry is not their second album. It's the first album released in the US. With a bit different track list than three imaginary boys. The second album is Seventeen Seconds.
The only piece of media not created by the band I've ever seen that can sum up the brilliance of The Cure, is that "A Forrest" edit in the beginning. Brilliant! This Doc is incredible.
I have seen this band so many times... the best was my 18th birthday at Glastonbury in 87... storms all day, the Cure came on stage and the sun came out, then the steam off the crowd was magical in the light show and made Forest even better. The earlier quicker versions of The Forest are my favorite The best band ever. Life long fan. The memories from the concerts, CD’s and the bass. 👍
After all these yrs. I'm still learning more about Robert Smith & The Cure Members. Robert just turned 64 on April 21st. God Bless Him, he is touring in the USA & Parts of UK again starting very soon. 😍🔥🎵❤️💋🌹😃
This just popped up in my feed. I was hesitant to click, I’ve seen to many “unofficial “ documentaries that were train wrecks. Not only is this not one, it is an amazingly well crafted documentary official or not. So well done. Pacing, content, music, insight. Takes me instantly back to my younger days from the mid-seventies onward. A huge thanks from me for all time and effort you devoted to this. Well done indeed! Cheers!
@@BearWithNoFace you are truly a talented filmmaker. This was clearly a labor of love and you did a superb job. Truly a gift to all Cure fans. I humbly thank you.
Great doco... just accidentally came across it... your meshing of different ‘The Forest’ was excellent 👍🎶 Great to hear Robert Smith talking about what they were doing 🌈
I find myself appreciating this from the point of view of being a huge Cure fan before the internet. This is a treasure of footage that would be scattered, hidden, and not very easily accessible! Amazing! Thank you🙏
Love Robert Smith : His look, his talent, his mind, his voice, the way he moves, the way he is on stage, the way he 's always fascinate me. Love him forever. The boss of The CURE. Friendly from France 👋🎼🎶🎸😻👍👏🏻⭐
This documentary took me back decades back when I watched and listened to virtually anything Cure released. I still love them dearly. Thank you for this amazing compilation of deliciousness!
That mix of A Forest was fantastic! Bravo ! 🙌 I only ever saw the original line up of the Cure and loved seeing the clips from that time but also loved seeing the progression to that giant stadium sound. Never imagined at the time what they would become. Had a few tears watching that. Stellar work. Thankyou
This is amazing! I can't wait to watch the rest. It has invigorated me with a renewed sense of awe and excitement about The Cure, I feel like I'm 12 again discovering them for the first time. And I love the last quote you include from Robert here, 'given the choice between real life and this I'd rather take real life'... I think that perfectly describes the Cure. No condescension of the audience through conceited rockstar personas, just genuine human beings experiencing human experiences and making beautiful music expressing those sentiments in a way that so many people can relate to and connect with. Truly the purest band out there, delivering distilled emotion packaged in the most dreamy, visceral and sentimental music to ever bless this earth.
They have been my favorite band since I first saw the movie "Lost Angels" in 1989. That's where I first heard "Fascination Street" and fell in love with their sound. A lot of things in my life have changed over the 31 years since. I listen to a lot, I mean a lot of music. I always have something playing, and not just old music. I am still always checking out new stuff. With all that said, they are hands down still the best band I have ever heard. I know they are not for everyone, (hence why we have so much variety in music) but for me...they have yet to be unseated at "The Top".
I probably started really listening to the Cure when I was 12 in 1989, a guy at school got me into them, at the same time I was listening to Faith no More, Suicidal Tendencies, Violent Femmes and late 80’s rap. I was then introduced to the 2tone movement and put everything into that, however, The Cure stayed with me, my musical tastes have changed so much over the years, metal, punk, hip hop, reggae, dancehall and most recently afrobeat. Two band have been with me the entire time, The Specials and The Cure, these guys are like gods to me.
I still have the vinyl of their first few albums (yeah, I'm old! but Robert Smith is older (just)). Always been one of my favourite bands and they are great live. You always get 3+ hours of passion & intensity. Looking forward to their upcoming album.
This is great stuff! The Cure for me provided something I could identify with as a teenager in the mid-80s. A lot of this footage I have never before seen, and now 35 years later watching this compilation I can still relate to the enigmatic Robert Smith and the music they created over all these years. In one of the interviews he makes clear that they are making music because they enjoy it and he’s not that fussed about selling millions of records, cool attitude that clearly didn’t impeded their success! Robert’s style clearly captivated many, many more along the way.
Wow the editing in this video series is freaking insane. I just watched A Forest and just holy crap excellent editing and going thru time in new old etc just beautiful. Thank you 💜 I was fortunate to see them in Irvine, CA where they decided to have two shows in one night. It was in a gym on the Irvine campus and still had that just small enough feeling where you're so close to the band you can see everything it was so amazing.
Boker Tov, Good morning, Always The cure will be one of the My favorite band. The 80' And The dark clubs in Tel Aviv will be forever with us. Wonderful songs, Melodies, Mystory.. and Show. 80' missing, remember how I put Cure Casette full volume in my car.. Moti From Israel
17 seconds saved me when I was in high school. It was wonderfully depressing and I thought that to sing it instead of dying is indeed the better option. I am eternally grateful to the Cure. I am alive and it was that music that saved me.
Damn these guys were my favourite band when I was a teen in the 1990s and Robert Smith was such an iconic and iconoclastic inspiration. They produced songs of such beauty, heartbreak, uplift and power. Inimitable and ingenious!
Awesome!!!! Love the Cure!My parents (who are now in their 70s) saw them live when I was still a kid. I got into them in as a teenager in the early 80s. The Forest was always one of my faves. Also “Like Cockatoos” was hardly ever played but so awesome! Great doco!!!! Thanks for posting. 😍
SUBLIME GOTHIC JAMS.... so fortunate to have been "been there"... The early 80's were the most adventurous period in "popular music". Thanks for making this!

Boris may have been the greatest Cure drummer but damn Lol helped define the sound of the Cure 29:28 “why has it taken so long for anything new? (14 months)” Robert Smith 2020 “hold my beer” 🍺

They are a comfort to me . Magic voice , magic band ...Amazing they got older and better . Thanks a lot for these documentary! Very well done .
I always thought Terry Hall & Robert Smith had a similar tonality & inflection in their voice & singing style. Although the music genres are completely different.
When I seen the part when Robert mentions he does not foresee the Cure selling over 3 million records: I looked up how many copies The Disintegration record sold, and it has sold over 3 million worldwide, what a great great record....
This is hugely interesting and shows what a crucial part of culture alternative post-punk rock could be. I loved the section where RS was talking about work as closing off certain aspects of teh personality (about 18 mins in). There is a beautiful hesitancy and throughfulness about him here, as if he’s got something to say but wants to find a way of saying it that won’t cause offence. It was a real pity the interviewer seemed to interrupt him, I thought. I’d be glad to know the source of that clip. Meanshile thank you for the devoted work that’s gone into producing this film.
Thank you Steve! The full interview can be found here: ruclips.net/video/bXQiJYO2hU4/видео.html It's an Australian interview from 1981, and they talk a bit about the upcoming release of Pornography. I'm very glad this interview exists.
@@BearWithNoFace Thanks so much for the quick reply and even more for the link! You’ve done a really excellent piece of work, not only in editing the material so creatively, but in showcasing performances and statements that have gradually slipped out of view. A thing I like especially is that the main voice in the ongoing narrative is RS”s. He talks so well about music, his artistic aims and the music business that it’s best to let him speak for himself. Thank you again! Btw. I’m about to post a video on lyrics in the Manic Street Preachers. Just mentioned it in case they’re within your interests.
Thanks a lot for this gem, really! I get both melancholic and grateful, happy and sad, but most of all comfortable because of the love I feel for the music. I am a fan of the Cure, but also of many many others. There’s however something about Robert Smith that I truly relate to, which is the need to touch the dark side of the mind while mostly being a joyful and balanced guy in the perception of others. It’s a bit similar to Bowie’s state of mind too, but perhaps just a common one for all of us that grew up in the rollercoaster of the 80’s.
Sin King was the best song ever written - a dive into self in discovery mode - my youth was spent riding waves created by minds like these - THANK you Smith and boyzzzz
Thank you for this wonderful documentary of The Cure. Love this band since high school in the 80's, they are one hell of a great live concert, and a bunch of polite young men (when I saw them. We were all younger than lol) again brilliant loved it all.
Thank you so much for the the time warp. Seemless production and perfect for us fans. Much appreciated all round for the attention and care for this incredible insight.
Okay, mind blown... They were a # piece band at first and eventhough I listened to those first albums over and over plus read the back of the albums I STILL didn't realize this. They sounded so big to me!! Shows what kind of impression they made...I love these guys still!!

Why did this just pop now in my recommandations? This is just awesome, as an old Cure fan that gave me chills to feel this time travel. It gives me back so much great souvenirs, when I watched and rewatched all the things I could record on VHS. Some of the pictures here, I lived in front of my tv (that show with the dresses for Boys don't cry was to make fun of a french band and still hilarious, I remember the next day at school, everyone spoke about it). Thank you, so much, just brilliant! Edit: je viens de percuter que je parle comme un débile en anglais alors que tu es français. Pour avoir vécu les années "Enfants du Rock", je pense qu'on doit avoir dans les mêmes âges parce-que tout ça me touche énormément.
ooO0VicariouS0Ooo your comment has stuck with me because I wonder how The Cure resonate through so many languages. It’s sort of mind blowing, given how many things are lost in translation. It’s fun to think about so thanks!
I think this is actually a professional video - and a very professional one at that. Speaking as someone who dutifully bought such VHS releases as the interminably long and unedited, The Cure Play Out, I like to think this is recognition that those really should have been done better, so that this is something of a compensatory thank you coupled with a bit of an apology. Much of the footage is from those official tapes, but now much more sympathetically edited to hold your attention. Above all they are really quite funny, as well as being insightful and informative. I think it has been recognised that much of the old footage isn't of professional quality, but has been edited together in a way that makes it of little importance. I've so far watched parts 1 and 2 on my TV and have been thoroughly entertained by it. Even Hot, Hot Hot, very low down on the list of my favourite Cure tracks, suddenly makes far more sense. It's a bit like The Cure's low-res equivalent of The Beatles Anthology, totally free of charge.
Peter Sharpe much appreciated, thank you. What's funny is the "long and unedited" official releases were probably the only reason it works - you'll see halfway through part 3 it starts to get a choppy when dealing with highly edited material of the 90s. I sort of hope that even if a real documentary doesn't come to fruition, that they just release more long and unedited footage in some form or another.

@@yoshyusmc Don't see many then?
Lets not forgot the fact he battled and defeated Mecha Streisand !
@@rayenbow3281 I've seen a lot - they are one of the best bands live.
This is a brilliant documentary. I really like the way it morphs through the different clips and how the sound is blended. Better than anything I have on DVD. Many thanks to the creator.
Thank you Phil!
Robert Smith & The CURE are free ! Free minds ! Their music is amazing. Their haunting sound is timeless ! They are genius !
your editing is fucking brilliant. I can't imagine the hundreds of hours of work you put into this!!
This guy seriously is frickin amazing totally love the work and effort to put this together. I can't even imagine how much time and effort it took so killer!
The Forest edit is unbelievable. Mind blowing
You should definitely give Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me & Disintergration a listen.
Gawd, that live version on A Night Like This! The bass sound is gorgeously overwhelming!
The cure is one of those bands that instinctually tapped into a very primal side of the human mind and what we respond to when it comes to sound.
I was his Mum n Dad postie 89-92...my fav band of All Time
What's interesting is that the Cure was making this music back in the 70's & 80s; talk about being ahead of the curve!
Thank you Nicolas!!
My god the mix of A Forest is genius af
Thanks for saying so! It was fun to put together, and I was pretty amazed it worked so well.
@@BearWithNoFace It was genius Loved it!
Incredible!
@@BearWithNoFace Appreciate that you didn't try to beat match it either. Shows how the song has changed over the years.
@@BearWithNoFace can you please put that up on youtube as a stand alone so I can share it?
Absolutely brilliant!! In my early 50s now have always loved the cure and they never sound old - just better. Makes me sentimental..... best documentary!!! Thanks so much from Melbourne 👍
Same... and I'm nearly 60.
Again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again ......🗣️🖤
🖤🖤🖤
Boys don't cry is the second album (Three imaginary boys first album)....
Thanks Crop Circle, your words are much appreciated.
I have seen this band so many times... the best was my 18th birthday at Glastonbury in 87... storms all day, the Cure came on stage and the sun came out, then the steam off the crowd was magical in the light show and made Forest even better.
The earlier quicker versions of The Forest are my favorite
The best band ever. Life long fan. The memories from the concerts, CD’s and the bass. 👍
The mixing & editing of [A Forest] at the beginning was astonishing to say the least. Pure Genius.
Cheers!
Thanks so much for your comment, Thomas! Much appreciated.

Thanks so much for posting this Cure joy 😊
The Forest mix is blowing my mind!❤
I find myself appreciating this from the point of view of being a huge Cure fan before the internet. This is a treasure of footage that would be scattered, hidden, and not very easily accessible! Amazing! Thank you🙏
I’ve just finished watching all 4 of these vids.
Watch them all. You won’t be disappointed.
The mix of all the different versions of A Forest is a meticulous work of mad genius, thankyou!
That mix of A Forest was fantastic! Bravo ! 🙌
I only ever saw the original line up of the Cure and loved seeing the clips from that time but also loved seeing the progression to that giant stadium sound.
Beautiful mix of A Forest. Amazing! Thank you.
I finished part 1 now. Cried a little. You truly are a talented editor!
Comedy Academy 😁 thank you!
The editing of the forest was phenomenal! Both video and audio!!!
Brilliant work to the creator!!!
And the band too...🤘😛🤙
I probably started really listening to the Cure when I was 12 in 1989, a guy at school got me into them, at the same time I was listening to Faith no More, Suicidal Tendencies, Violent Femmes and late 80’s rap.
Amazing live mix of ´forest’ 👍🏻
Loads of versions put together
Agreed. It’s really well done.

warrior jst beautiful version of « forever » too, amazing setlist this day 😉
It’s also amazing how consistent the bpms are.
All my dads doing, songs played when you are 8 in the kitchen can catapult you into loving any band, for me it just happened to be a great one.
One of my favorite bands all-time and the great Robert Smith
Have see any major singer and or band imaginable, but the Cure live and Robert impressive the most👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love how soft spoken he is....

What a beautiful documentary. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️

17 seconds saved me when I was in high school. It was wonderfully depressing and I thought that to sing it instead of dying is indeed the better option. I am eternally grateful to the Cure. I am alive and it was that music that saved me.
🖤🖤🖤
the cure care that much about their fans that they decided to make an in depth documentary series! I love everything about them.
Robert Smith and Tim Pope are working on one, this one was made by a fan using existing footage.
@@BearWithNoFace You mean to this date, wow
Raw, candid, versatile and real ! Great insight into The Cure/Robert Smith.

Long ago I got lost in the forest. And I like it here. Best advice I ever took.

Iam in love with the Cure since 1986 . I was 12 years old . 2020 During these pandemic I l put The Cure on my tv 📺 the 40 year of the Cure show 2018 and I dance 💃🏻 with my husband as if we were there. The Cure makes me feel good . They are a comfort to me . Magic voice , magic band ...Amazing they got older and better . Thanks a lot for these documentary! Very well done .
A Forest is pretty great here, just like my favorite rendition featured in The Cure in Orange.
The Cure. The Best Band Ever along with The Specials. Just Luv Them.
I always thought Terry Hall & Robert Smith had a similar tonality & inflection in their voice & singing style. Although the music genres are completely different.
*_ONE_* of the best bands ever. There's *_TONS_* more out there, both old and new...
Now that is THE combo! I would agree 1000% with this statement! 🖤❤️
The full interview can be found here: ruclips.net/video/bXQiJYO2hU4/видео.html
It's an Australian interview from 1981, and they talk a bit about the upcoming release of Pornography.
Fire in Cairo is the first song I heard from them in 83.. I was hooked since then
Sin King was the best song ever written - a dive into self in discovery mode - my youth was spent riding waves created by minds like these - THANK you Smith and boyzzzz
Now I really feel old! LOL. Excellent documentary 👍🤗
Okay, mind blown... They were a # piece band at first and eventhough I listened to those first albums over and over plus read the back of the albums I STILL didn't realize this. They sounded so big to me!! Shows what kind of impression they made...I love these guys still!!
The Cure, Led Zeppelin and Radiohead are my favorite bands EVER! In this exactly order. The Cure is, and will be forever, a part of myself!
I can’t bear the other two ...I’m still a bloody misfit 🙄🏴😇❤️
Wow...probably my favourite 3 bands too 👍

The Cures two most used lyrics "it's always the same"... "it's never the same" 😎
You are Absolutely right 😀😆👀🎼😎
Why did this just pop now in my recommandations?
