    [Lyrics]
It's the same in every country when you say you're leaving
Left behind the loved ones waiting silent in the hall
Where you're going lies adventure others only dream of
Red and green light this is real and so you go to war
For the passion, for the glory, for the memories, for the money
You're a soldier, for your country what's the difference, all the same
    Chorus:
Far away from the land of our birth
We fly a flag in some foreign earth
We sailed away like our fathers before
These colours don't run from cold bloody war
There is no one that will save you, going down in flames
No surrender certain death you look it in the eye
On the shores of tyranny you crashed a human wave
Paying for my freedom with your lonely unmarked graves
For the passion, for the glory, for the memories, for the money
You're a soldier, for your country what's the difference, all the same
    Chorus: [x3]
    ...........................
'These Colours Don't Run' is a song from the album''A Matter of Life and Death'' by Iron Maiden, released in 2006.
This is once again a war song seen through the eyes of a soldier, like many other Iron Maiden songs before from "The Trooper" to "Afraid To Shoot Strangers', to name but those two. However, if war is present, it is only in the minds of those who are about to go, and the scenes of war are more hinted at than actually described. The intro, like the ending, is soft and reminiscent of the calm before the storm -- war -- that explodes in the middle section of the song to quieten down again after the ordeal is over. This is yet another of many example of how Iron Maiden's music can evoke the visualisation of a story and summon up images in our minds.
Unlike in other Maiden war songs, the lyrics offer us here a glimpse of how those who are "left behind" feel, with the silent dismay to see a loved one go and risk his life far away from home. Those who enlist in the forces know that they will have to face real action at some point, and those who are close to them are also perfectly aware of that. Still, the emotion remains the same when the time comes.
"These colours don't run" is incidentally what Bruce said to the audience while holding proudly the Union Jack during the infamous "eggfest incident" at the San Bernardino gig of 2005, where the Iron Maiden set was rudely disrupted by eggs being thrown at the musicians and various other unpleasant things happening due to the "Ozzy camp". Maybe this sentence struck the rest of the band and they decided to write a song around it. You never know...(Sourse: ironmaidencommentary.com )
A Matter of Life and Death is the fourteenth studio album. It was released on 25 August 2006 in Italy and in Finland, 28 August worldwide, and 5 September 2006 in the United States, Canada and Japan. It is the first album in Iron Maiden's career to enter the U.S. Billboard charts in the top 10 and the third album where Steve Harris has had a song writing credit on every track, and has seen significant chart success in many other countries.
While the album is not a concept album, war and religion are recurring themes in the lyrics throughout the album, as well as in the album's artwork. The title is also linked with the war theme, as it shared with a 1946 film whose primary character is a WW II Royal Air Force pilot, though singer Bruce Dickinson has stated that the title and dark lyrical themes came partly from the band members' childhood experiences having grown up in the Cold War era amid common fears of imminent destruction and war.
Continuing the progressive direction seen since the band's 2000 reunion with Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith, A Matter of Life and Death puts emphasis on creating atmospheres befitting the darker lyrical themes and long sprawling epics with changes in tempo and dynamics, in contrast to the catchy, riff-driven music of the band's early days. This darker direction of the lyrical viewpoint can even be seen in the shorter songs "Different World" and "The Pilgrim".
This is the band's fourth studio album not to share its name with a song, following Piece of Mind, The X Factor and Virtual XI.

My favorite song of the best album ever made. The melody, the lyrics, the performance. Iron Maiden at their best.

A remarkable Golden Gem from the best album they ever made imho : the sensational AMOLAD....the blistering music, brilliant guitar phrasing, solos and riffs, thunderous drums and climbing, driven bass lines....Bruce interprets the song masterly, the lyrics cuts deep into your heart and soul....just never let it go....

Maiden fully transofrmed with BNW to me. I really like the last wave of IM, but these last 2 albums have been a bit inconsistent. AMOLAD and BNW and Dance of Death, The Final Frontier are all amazing

An unforgettable Golden Gem from the best album they ever made imho, the sensational AMOLAD.....the blistering music, dazzling lyrics and the powerful interpretation by Bruce, it´s really this kind of progressive music I love the most, and Maiden are the only ones capable of writing songs like this...they have always been the masters and they always will.....
