Fantastic tutorial Debbie. Male aged 71 here. Needed some new curtains and decided to have a go. I had an old 'wind-up' Singer but bought a bottom-of-the-range Brother machine which is excellent. Followed your instructions and they have turned out brilliantly. I also opted for a hand-sewn hem. Thanks very much, Nic.
Wow!!! How clever is THAT? I don't believe there's a better "beginner's", guide to making lined curtain panels on the entire internet!! 💖💖💖 Omgosh, I'm so excited! Thank you SO much Debbie! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Yippee!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I bought a sewing machine a few weeks ago, and my husband has volunteered me to make some lined curtains for my mother in law. I had no idea where to even begin! I’ve just made a small version with some spare fabric to see if I could do it, and OMG, I have made a lined curtain! Thank you so much for this tutorial! 🎉
I've just begun sewing at age 60. I do not have the words to tell you how grateful I am that you share your generational knowledge with us in such a clear, lovely way. Everything about your presentation is perfection....the setting, your voice, your lovely hands, the always charming choice of fabrics. Thanks so much for your kindness and generosity in sharing your creativity, skills and artistry! You are much appreciated by this Texan.
Have found this video so helpful, thank you, remaking a charity shop pair of curtains for my daughter as a first attempt at curtain making. Have bought a seam gauge and it is really great too 😊
OMG. Thanks soooo much for your easy way to make drapes and linings. I’ve sewed shoes for year’s. But come to make Curtains was a mission. The way you explain on a smaller sized scale was 😍 Sooo once again a huge thanx. Kristina N.Z❤
Thanks Debbie, I am a total novice but today I have made a pair of curtains 😄, feeling very proud of my achievement, now have 4 more pairs to make for our caravan.
I have made my first lined curtains with your help. Even the pattern is matching , which has amazed me. Now I feel confident making curtains for the rest of the house . Thank you for helping me to put my stamp on my house.
Thanks Debbie, we just moved to the country and I am making curtains for the first time. this tutorial is really easy to follow and now i'm feeling inspired!
Made curtains from this tutorial, for my sons cottage. A cottage, nice short curtains for my first attempt I thought. Not so, his wife wanted 7foot long curtains. I made them had to do a pattern match and they were perfect. Thank you Debbie 😉
Why have I not found this video before! Thank you so much for a very easy to understand tutorial on making lined curtains. I’ll be making all my own curtains in future.
Wonderful tutorial. I have been daunted by the meters of fabric and lining in my sewing room waiting to become curtains just like these. I am finally comfortable with the idea of sewing them now.
This is a fabulous video thanks! I have made curtains before but the tips I got from you were great. I kept dipping in and out to make sure I got things right. Thanks very much for taking the time to make the video!
Thanks so much Debbie. Best video on making curtains I’ve found.well done.I’ve bought my fabric and I’m ready to start. Can’t believe what the shop were charging to make them. Now I feel confident I can make them myself, so here goes !!
Hi Debbie thank you for making these tutorials. I am a total novice and haven’t got a clue how to use the machine to it’s full potential. I have followed this video and have made my very first pair of curtains which I am so proud of. Buts it’s thanks to you for explaining it so simply and easy to follow. Once I have hung them I will send you a pic.
Great video Debbie. I have just purchased a machine (not had one for a long time) Will enjoy following your well explained instructions..Given me the confidence to attack
Thank you so much. I watched this about 10 times while creating my curtains. I won't say they're perfect but they were much improved by watching your video!
This was my first time making curtains and your video was very helpful and clear. The curtains turned out great, and I will be following your video again next time. Thank you.
Your videos are great and have always been so helpful to me. If I want to make something new I always check on here to see how you would make it first. Many thanks for the clear instructions.
Hi Debbie just wanted to say thanks so much with your help I have just made my first curtains for a really wide window each curtain is 2 widths of material also chose a bold pattern but I am really pleased with the results great instructions from you
Thanks a lot, will be able to save some money on buying the ready made ones which are so expensive and sometimes the fabrics are not of good quality. Big thanks.
Made my first pair of curtains using this tutorial; they're not quite perfect but that's because I cut the cloth before I found this video! They look good and it was easy to follow - really helpful, thanks so much!
Thanks for this tutorial. Those extra steps really made those curtains professional. I loved seeing Alfie at the end....lol. I knew he would be somewhere in the video. :)
Thank you for this really excellent video. Good to have the calculations for customisation. Lovely to meet you at Mostyn, North Wales recently. I'm enjoying the books. Kind regards and best wishes Colin
Wow didn't know it's a great day until I saw this video. I have been looking for the right curtains in the right size. Now hubby measured and I am off to find the material and lining. Thanks so much Debbie I hope to follow your advice and have the curtains I need very soon. Think your great, easy to follow and understand. Take care.
Thank you Debbie🧵 Excellent tutorial on curtain making. simple & understandable to follow. I thoroughly enjoy your teaching methods. look forward to viewing future tutorials. kind regards Helen
Hi Debbie, I really enjoyed your tutorial and successfully made a pair of curtain drapes. They worked out really well except for the mitred corners. So I do have one question on that. If the width of the fabric is 7 inches wider than the lining, that gives 3.5 inches on either side of the curtain, so in effect a 1.75 edge of curtain fabric on either side once the lining is sewn in and the curtain fabric is drawn to the back to create the edge. Surely then the only way to get a properly mitered corner is if the lining is cut only 1.75 inches shorter than the curtain fabric, rather than the 3 inches you mentioned? That is the only query I have. I really loved following your tutorial. Regards from South Africa 🇿🇦
Hey All - not sure if I've missed something here but 5:34 if you hem the lining by 4 inches and also the curtain fabric by 4 inches then the two layers won't overlap (given the lining is trimmed by 3 inches before you start)... But in Debbie's video the lining overlaps the fabric at the end... Have I skipped a step? Thanks so much[
This video was beautifully explained and soooooo helpful!!! I have a question though. If you need to attach multiple panels together to I follow all the steps the same and just stitch together at the end?? I have a very large curtain to make. 😀
Your instructions are very easy to follow, but when I cut the lining 3inches shorter than the curtain fabric I found that the lining finished on the line of the fabric hem, not where yours appeared to finish. In my next ones I only made the lining 2inches shorter, I was much happier with the result.
I’m a beginner with sewing and Debbie makes her tutorials so easy to follow with clear step by step guidance! Just making tab top curtains for the very first time. Is there a tutorial on them at all?
Debbie, great video but I am having trouble with the length of the lining. You cut the lining 3 inches shorter than the main curtain, and line the two fabrics up at the top. Yet on your video the finished lining hangs only 1-2 inches shorter than the finished curtain. My lining hangs too short, the bottom is level with the finished hem line on the main fabric. What am I missing? How deep should the lining hem be? On the video it says sew both hems to the same depth, 1'' then 3'' Thanks, Maggie
Thank you Debbie, this is such a helpful video and your explanation make it seem so straightforward. I am about to start sewing a curtain following your instructions and my project is actually a room divider which entails the need for a further curtain to be made facing the opposite direction, ie, back to back. Because the curtain(s) will hang from the same type of pole as used in your video, what would you suggest as a method of connecting the two curtains? Currently I’m thinking about using blackout lining, attached as per your video, to one curtain only, but having the header tape on each of the curtains connected by a double side hook. Would this be the best approach, do you think? Many thanks, Avril
Thank so much!! This is a great video. I am just confused about the top, where you saw the header tape, does not the fabric come undone? Don't we need to fold one inch inwards? Thank you!
I plan to use your video instructions to make some short cafe curtains for a small bathroom. I cannot find the drawstring-type pleater tape at any website here in the US. And, also, most of the pleater tapes here that are stiff and do not have the drawstrings are somewhat wide. I was considering a narrower heading since these curtains will not be long only about 18". Do you have recommendations on depth of tape for a short cafe curtain? I really appreciate your instructions and have subscribed. Thank you in advance!
Hi Debbie, I'm currently in the process of making my grandson Theo some bedroom curtains using your tutorial. I'm doing ok but just a bit unsure about the sides 😏. Am I understanding correctly when I say that due to the sides being 7in shorter than the fabric that you have to manoeuvre the lining to fit at the side & the excess fabric where you've pressed the seams to the inside will create the return? I'm pretty new to this sewing malarkey & I'm thinking that maybe I've got a bit ahead of myself. If anyone can answer my query or help in any way I'd be extremely grateful. Many thanks xx
It’s probably too late to reply as your project is probabilistic complete but yes that’s right, the excess fabric becomes the return on each side. 8:07
thank you , That's great ! I'm going to make my first curtains ! I bought a great old 401G to sew them on . BTW we have the same Radio ! its a cool old radio
Hi Debbie, a brilliant video. I know you made this a long time ago so not sure if you will see this question. When you attach the heading, do you hand sew or machine sew? I can't quite see from the video. Thanks.
