    Thank you so much for this video. I was going crazy trying to figure this out I wish you'd explained how to calculate the tab lengths needed for different rod sizes.

      Thank you for watching! When figuring your tabs, you take your rod pocket size (determined by doubling the diameter of your rod and then I usually add 1/2" for ease). In this video, our rod was 1" so we needed a 2" pocket plus 1/2" ease giving us 2.5". The end of the tab is folded under at least 1/2" on the top and 1/2" on the bottom. We will be sewing 1/4" in on both ends to attach so we need to add 1/2" for that. The total cut length would be 2.5" + 1/2"+1/2"+1/2"- giving us 4". If the rod was a 2" rod then I would cut tabs at 6" in length. Hope this helps!

    I've found a cotton quilt fabric I like and fits the decor of the room that I plan to make curtains for. Would you wash & dry the fabric prior to making the curtains? Also, what liner did you use?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric  5 месяцев назад +1

      If you plan on washing the curtains regularly, then yes prewash. Because you are using quilt weight cotton which is a lighter weight than home dec., use a heavier drapery liner than what I used in the video. Go with more of the cotton sateen mid weight liner.

      Thank you for watching! In this video I used the Frixion pens that disappear with heat :) www.beyondfabricinc.com/shop/c/p/Pilot-FriXion-Ball-Fine-Point-Black-Erasable-Gel-Ink-Pen---072838315618-Quiltin-x35879867.htm

    Sara, you always make it look so easy! This would be a great idea for my bedroom curtains. They definitely look simple and easy. I can't get them done in 25 minutes, just saying.🤣

      Lol- definitely longer than 25 minutes! Thank goodness for video speed-up!

    Hi Sara, just making sure? You are leaving the lining loose at the bottom? Correct?

    • @BeyondFabric
      @BeyondFabric  Год назад

      Yes, correct. The lining and panel are hemmed separately, and then the lining is placed up about 1/2" from the panel bottom. The liner will slide under the side pressed hem of the panel before stitching the side hems and top. The liner remains loose at the bottom.

    One more question. I'm re-watching the video so that I'm figuring out my fabric and lining length & width properly. At around 2 min's you start talking about the upper hem with the tabs. It appears the 1/2 inch at the top might have gotten added twice? My curtains are going to be inset, so I want to make sure I'm figuring out my measurements correctly.

      The 1/2" at the top just gives added assurance that the rod won't show. So when calculating your cut size you have your front measurements and then the back measurements (which is your hem and header). On the front you have your finished height plus the 1/2" above rod for assurance. On the back you have the 1/2" + rod pocket size for the tabs and then you double that because the fabric goes back to the top to give structure to the top of your panel. On the liner it just goes to the top not folded over. On the back you also have the hem amount which if you have a 3" hem, you add 6". The 1/2" is actually added 3 times because you have it on the front, back, and then folded back inside to the top. Hope this clarifies. :) Good luck!

    The tab measurements confused me. I don't suppose it matters, but you hit it quickly and I needed to see a diagram. Otherwise, good vid. I've replayed it several times.

      Sorry about that, I will try to slow down next time. If you need more clarification, email me at sara.claxton@beyondfabricinc.com and I can break it down better for you. :)

      @@BeyondFabric Thanks. I'm just finishing up changing ready-made lined drapes to hidden-tab valances. This helped!
