This was awesome. My buddy and I started tackling this at 9am yesterday morning and went until about 7pm. Got the old one out. We found your video as we were about to drop it.. we took a lot of extra unnecessary steps in some of our disassembly but halfway through your video we got unstuck. Putting the new one back in in the morning. My old one got 270,400 miles on it. RD1 CR-Vs are good vehicles. Hope anyone else looking to tackle this job find your video. Very helpful. Keep up the reference videos, you explain things well.
Good information. I'm probably going to be tackling this soon. One tip on the ball joint: look the we-todd-did method. No hammering and you basically let the suspension pop the ball joint loose.
Could you have dropped the engine from the bottom as well? If so, could you have pulled the engine and trans together from the bottom? I have a 200 CR-V with front end damage. Airbags deployed and seat belts locked up. It has a fresh rebuilt engine and a good transmission. I have a beautiful 2000 donor CR-V with a blown engine and a slipping trans. Trying to figure out the best way...pull from the top or drop out from the bottom. What do you think?
Hello been trying to find the filter for the transmission. I was told it looks like the shape of a muffler. Can you or able to make a video on how to change that please.
Hope to see a follow up soon.? From all I've read, honda auto trans. around this year suffered from friction material clogging the internal filter and starving the trans of fluid. I have a 98 crv that I'm going to attempt to pull and rebuild myself. Local shop wants 2500. I paid 500 for the car.
I'm stuck installing the 'new' one back in. Any tricks? The dowls are too far apart to mate to the housing, the 19mm in the back are not aligned, but I can get the top 3 17mm bolts threaded in. I have a hoist holding it up with the two 17mm nuts on the passenger side mount installed. How do I twist it to get the bottoms to mate and the dowls to mate? thanks
Glad for the Video. I'll be changing out the same transmission in my wife's old CRV this spring. Although I don't have a lift I'll work around it somehow. Please post the transmission install if possible. Thanks again.
Brought 99 cRV front wheel drive. Someone attempted to put in transfer case but did not use proper tranny bracket I think. To remove transfer case does tranny or engine have to be dropped? Also do I have to remove front axils?
So what do i need to be sure to do,when installing a used transmission? How do i make sure the torque converter is seated properly? Replaced my trans in my 1997 CR-V and think i missed a few important steps...
awesome thanks for this vid. Is the torque converter inside the transmission? also - could you guess if there are any differences between this 99 and a 3rd gen ('05)? Thanks again.
Completely different as a 99 is a b20 and a 3rd gen is a K . Yes it will is some ways be the same but you could also say that a awd rav4 in some ways would be the same
I have the same CR-V in a AWD version. Where did you get your remanufactured transmission from? I'm afraid I'm going to need one in a year if not before.
Well, that was certainly educational. But now i know not to be a mechanic, Way to many bolts and wires to even try to remember. I think i'll stick to computers.
Different transmission as the crv Is awd and unless you want to convert your rd1 to fwd they are not interchangeable. If your just wondering if the process is the same then the answer is yes and no as they are completely different chassis and mounts.
I just went from AWD to FWD auto. Now when I put it in D it drives like it’s in 4th gear. I have to drop it into “1” or “2” and theeen D. My “D” is flashing with a P1768. Aaaany idea????
Would be nice if he just talked removal of trans instead of chattering on issues that don't need to be discussed... Most who search these removals know the general knowledge of a car....

It would be good to see the preparation work, and some shots from farther away to get an overall reference.
Great video. Thank you!

I have a 99 5 speed crv. What are the three threaded holes for on the front on the transmission? Should there be a bracket there?
Hey man! Nice vid. Im just wondering if the car was in Parked or Nuetral when you removed the transmission? Thanks! Hope to hear from you asap!
removing the upper balljoint is way easier to get the axles out. also the driveshaft doesn't have to come completely off
He makes it seem soo much easier than it realistically would be.
If you have no resolve

Hello sir Is it possible to remove the transfer case without fully removing the transmission?
I'm glad you don't work for a Honda dealer as a mechanic, I don't think I would want my engine held up on a 4x4 on the fenders LOL
+Matt yeah you're right, the Honda dealer probably would have used a 2x4!
Ya right, I think they would have put a piece of foam at least on the paint LOL
good one sir
I used the 4x4 method as well... worked for me Haha.
Next video how to replace crv fender
hi i need to ask plz answer me ,
can a 2004 transmission be installed on a 2002 crv ?
I have the same CR-V in a AWD version. Where did you get your remanufactured transmission from? I'm afraid I'm going to need one in a year if not before.
+Professional Email was not reman. Used from a junkyard, I found it on ebay
Thank you. Do you know of a similar or even any description of overhaul, trouble shooting or detailed operation of a 2001 CRV auto transmission?
Sorry but I'm not aware of anything like that at this time
Thanks for the info
I got a question Do you know if I could replace my transmission with an awd transmission?
Well, that was certainly educational. But now i know not to be a mechanic, Way to many bolts and wires to even try to remember. I think i'll stick to computers.
The trick is not remembering them. You just find them as you go and then do the same when you put it back together :-)
Did you ever put it back in?
i have no lift..found a guy to drop it..replace all gaskets and put it back for 5 bills..I appreciate your video..but decided to job it out
I got a question do you If a transmission of a Honda Civic fits on crv
Sorry Mario but I do not know the answer to this question. Good luck!

Did anyone has an idea how much labour cost for replacing a transmission.
I have issues with my 1998 CRV and I'm thinking to replace the transmission.
is it the same

I juuust changed the ECU because AWD and FWD ecu aren’t the same.
About to do awd to fwd, all I need is ecu?
Good info. Invest in a tripod to hold the camera
DUDE! YOU HAVE A HYDRAULIC LIFT IN YOUR HOUSE???? AWESOMEa
Lifts are cheap. Height is expensive.
Nice and easy. :D
I need a mecanic in sacramento area for transmissions
Nice
you related to red green?
Lol
handymans best friend....DUCT TAPE!!!
I wish I had a lift...

You didnt even take offthe starter wtf.
Lol big bell housing and torque converter. Little 14mm bolts.
