Even after being retired after 27yrs in the Fire Service, the Screaming Q still send chills up my spine. Started on the job 11/17/81...just as 'eating smoke' and 'riding the tailboard' was coming to an end in our area.

Great footage. Thanks for uploading. Casey Kasem narrating? Love Lieutenant Cross' tailboard discussion, still covered in soot. A Vietnam veteran with nearly 40 years in FDNY, Dennis Cross (promoted to Battalion Chief) was killed on 9/11 at the age of 60.

0:49 “Very job is essence of danger”. I remember reading that in NYC and probably some other large cities that when the firefighters still rode the tail boards of the fire trucks, that some idiots would throw rocks and bricks at them. They ended up putting a cover to give them some protection.

These videos are amazing and a great tribute to all New York fireman and to fireman everywhere. It’s also nice for people to put faces to the names they have heard read aloud so many times at 9/11 memorials.
