As a South African I am proud of what Ethiopian Airlines achieved. Our SAA airlines used to be the best in Africa and it is one of the oldest airlines in the world. Since ANC came to power they have bankrupted SAA and many state institutions. No more railways, electricity supply is random and country as a whole is being mismanaged. We almost have no hope for the future. SA had so much potential to become a world player and now our government and presidents are an embarrasment. Sam did not actually report on how Ethiopian Airlines became Africa's best airline but I am sure it is because the people in charge are honourable, and truly take pride of their country and what they have achieved. They are building their nation to be the best in Africa. If only our government can do the same and stop its corruption and selfish actions. Well done Ethiopia! To answer you question as an Ethiopian, the reason Ethiopian Airlines is successful is because even though it's state owned, the successive governments since it's foundation have left it independent. Even at the time of the communist government 40 years ago, Ethiopian Airlines was allowed to operate independently. Sadly, the new government we have is going to ruin it since just like the ANC, it's interfering with the airlines management.
Ethiopia airlines is run like a corporation and has its own independent financial and management services. It makes an annual.profit and trains most of Africa's pilots. Zuma ruined SA... now he has ruined ANC. we need intelligence in Africa's governments.

I just flew from South Africa to Toronto with Ethiopian. It was a nice relaxing flight. I didn’t know they fly to toronto until a month ago. They should do more advertising in Canada.
I flew first class on Ethiopian from Los Angeles to Cape Town, South Africa. Via Dublin, Addis then Cape Town. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent training and safety (I don't blame the 737 Max accident on Ethiopian). Agree, the footwell was small and at 6' 3" and size 12 US feet I couldn't lie all the way flat on the 787. From Addis to Cape Town was on a 777 which was older but much larger/longer first class seat. Also, the best coffee I have ever had was from Ethiopia (both on the plane and in the Addis lounge. A must try! Thanks for bringing back the memories, Sam!

I guess you and I have watched different clips because his tone and narrative sounded more negative than anything to me. I watched the whole thing and he mentioned how poor Ethiopia is and was several times and wants to know the success of the airlines but not even once mentioned how. I don't even think he cared to know that, the whole video was more confusing. What is the goal of this video? As a South African, I envy how efficient and well run Ethiopian Airline is. Our national carrier (South African Airways) has been run so badly that we simply cannot compete against Ethiopian. In fact, Ethiopian offered to buy our airline a few years ago when our debt was too steep. Looking forward to watching your Cape Town trip next.
33 yrs before I was working in ETHIOPIAN as a daily laborer when test cell project is under erection so Ethiopian Airlines is a big company in maintenance and flight service. It is a symbol for Ethiopians and the whole Africa. Am proud to be Ethiopian.
Had a great flight in first class from Cape Town to Addis Ababa and they quickly put me up in a wonderful hotel for the night before my flight to the Seychelles the next day. Was very happy with my experience a few weeks ago!
Must be nice...i had to quit flight training (IFR training) because i lacked the funds to finish the entire program. These gentlemen are extremely blessed to have found an airline that would pay for training and also hire you. My deepst respect and admiration

And also our Ancestors have wrote about their travels in Russia and how the Tsar of Russia has welcomed them. I flew them this summer from Vienna to Addis on the 787 , then on the A350 to Joberg in Business class. The crew was friendly and provided excellent service. There was too much food! This is an organization to be proud of.
I was in economy class. You’re right about the food part. They gave us so much food that it literally wouldn’t fit into our small tables. I ended up spilling my drink and a bit of my food.

Amazing video! The current success of Ethiopian is not from yesterday. They have been working on it for a long time. I remember taking a flight from Addis to Khartoum back in the 90s and was really impressed with the service and new Boeing 737. It was Egyptair that was leading in the region at the time, but now ET have well overpassed them. Ethiopian pilots and their academy always had a good reputation. Ethiopians themselves are a hard working nation with clever people inspite of the economic situation. Still, their GDP per capita has increased by 3 times during the last 11 years. Hope the issues with their probably closest brothers the North Sudanese get resolved very soon for the region to prosper once again. This part of Africa is quite amazing.

A lot of people don’t know this but a African American named John Robinson establish a pilot training school in Ethiopia. After arriving in 1935, Robinson initially conducted pilot training at a recently opened officer training school close to Addis Ababa. He also played a role in the foundation of Ethiopian Airlines. Most importantly In January 1935, Robinson announced his intentions to volunteer to defend Ethiopia in its ongoing conflict with Italy. Robinson was then named the commander of the Ethiopian Air Force.

In March 2018, we flew Business Class from DUB to ADD in an Ethopian 787-8 and then from ADD to CPT in a 777-300ER. Wonderful flights with excellent food and drink. The cabin service was first class. All together, a great experience.

Ethiopian Airlines has more aircraft in it's fleet than Swiss Airlines Scandinavian Airlines Services Air Austria or Air Belgium. Yet it provides the same top notch service as Singapore Airlines. I watched the whole thing and he mentioned how poor Ethiopia is and was several times and wants to know the success of the airlines but not even once mentioned how.
I don't even think he cared to know that, the whole video was more confusing. What is the goal of this video? To see how Ethiopia has the most successful airlines in Africa or just to talk about why poor country in Africa has an airlines like this?
The problem here the west have always undermined Africa this bullshit mental game is a way of telling us we don't have the brain capacity to achieve what they have achieved. It's money, power and psychological game they have been playing for years if not centuries.

As a South African, I envy how efficient and well run Ethiopian Airline is. Our national carrier (South African Airways) has been run so badly that we simply cannot compete against Ethiopian. In fact, Ethiopian offered to buy our airline a few years ago when our debt was too steep. Looking forward to watching your Cape Town trip next.
33 yrs before I was working in ETHIOPIAN as a daily laborer when test cell project is under erection so Ethiopian Airlines is a big company in maintenance and flight service. It is a symbol for Ethiopians and the whole Africa. Am proud to be Ethiopian.
Had a great flight in first class from Cape Town to Addis Ababa and they quickly put me up in a wonderful hotel for the night before my flight to the Seychelles the next day. Was very happy with my experience a few weeks ago!

I flew them this summer from Vienna to Addis on the 787 , then on the A350 to Joberg in Business class. The crew was friendly and provided excellent service. There was too much food! This is an organization to be proud of.
I was in economy class. You’re right about the food part. They gave us so much food that it literally wouldn’t fit into our small tables. I ended up spilling my drink and a bit of my food.

One of THE worst places to live and work period. Amazing video! The current success of Ethiopian is not from yesterday. They have been working on it for a long time. I remember taking a flight from Addis to Khartoum back in the 90s and was really impressed with the service and new Boeing 737. It was Egyptair that was leading in the region at the time, but now ET have well overpassed them. Ethiopian pilots and their academy always had a good reputation. Ethiopians themselves are a hard working nation with clever people inspite of the economic situation. Still, their GDP per capita has increased by 3 times during the last 11 years. Hope the issues with their probably closest brothers the North Sudanese get resolved very soon for the region to prosper once again. This part of Africa is quite amazing.

A lot of people don’t know this but a African American named John Robinson establish a pilot training school in Ethiopia. After arriving in 1935, Robinson initially conducted pilot training at a recently opened officer training school close to Addis Ababa. He also played a role in the foundation of Ethiopian Airlines. Most importantly In January 1935, Robinson announced his intentions to volunteer to defend Ethiopia in its ongoing conflict with Italy. Robinson was then named the commander of the Ethiopian Air Force.

I'm originally from Guinea, after watching this video i know it's a great airline because i work on this converted cargo Boeing 767 and 737 in the us and to see an African country compete with the leaders in the aviation, make me very proud.
I flew with Ethiopian airlines last year and I must admit they are the best pilots and the flight attendants were great will fly again this year

In March 2018, we flew Business Class from DUB to ADD in an Ethopian 787-8 and then from ADD to CPT in a 777-300ER. Wonderful flights with excellent food and drink. The cabin service was first class. All together, a great experience.

Ethiopian Airlines is the epitome of an African success story and testimony to the fact that Africa is not a poor continent. Ethiopian Airlines has more aircraft in it's fleet than Swiss Airlines Scandinavian Airlines Services Air Austria or Air Belgium. Yet it provides the same top notch service as Singapore Airlines. Concurrently Ethiopia has 25 mega infrastructure projects which it is rolling out as we speak. Ethiopia is the role model for many African as well as Caribbean countries that have African roots.
