Thank you to Go Addis Tours (goaddistours.com/) for taking me on this amazing ultimate food and market tour of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Ethiopia is one of my favorite countries in the world for food and travel, and this was my second time to visit, and I was eager to explore and eat as much as possible.
We started early, 5 am in the morning and Go Addis Tours picked me up to start at the wholesale market. Even though the city is still sleeping, Addis Mercato is buzzing from 3 am when trucks full of produce from all over Ethiopia, sell them at the market in Addis Ababa. You’ll find all the ingredients, and massive amounts, that you need to cooking Ethiopian food. It was a good warm up, to get to know some of the ingredients, before starting the day eating Ethiopian food.
We had coffee, and breakfast, both of which were excellent. Later after visiting another market, Dessie took me to his neighborhood to eat shiro wat, one of the greatest of all Ethiopian foods, a thick and rich chickpea stew. I’ve had shiro wat many times before, but never have I seen it fully prepared right in front of me. The shiro was incredibly good, piled onto a bed of injera, and we also ordered fir fir, a mashup of injera, simmered with tomato sauce and berbere.
Next we headed to a fish restaurant in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia is landlocked, so all fish is freshwater. We ordered fried fish, and asa lebleb, a mixture of fish sauteed with spices and herbs. Both were excellent, but the asa lebleb was the highlight because it was so flavorful.
Next Ethiopian food meal we went to one of the longtime classic restaurants to eat one of the best platters of beyaynetu in Addis Ababa. Beyaynetu is a mix of vegetarian dishes. It was again, a delicious meal, I especially love the tomato salad there.
For our final meal of the day, and to finish off this extreme Ethiopian food tour, we went to one of the most well known and best quality meat restaurants in Addis Ababa to eat tere siga - raw meat. You are served a variety of chunks of raw beef, delicately sliced. Then you slice it into bite sized pieces on your own, wrap in injera, and dip into chili sauce before taking a bite. It’s awesome. The fried meat version is also very good.
This was an amazing day, and an amazing Ethiopian food tour in Addis Ababa. Thank you Go Addis Tours!

I lived in Ethiopia for 2 years as a child. I spent half of it in Addis Ababa and the other half in Langano. Most of my cherished childhood memories were living in Ethiopia. Always miss it and wish I had gotten to live there longer. Food was always so fresh and delicious. I remeber when I came back to the US, it took a while for my stomach to get used to all of the chemicals and processed foods.
🙏🏻 thank you dear
Welcome back please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤❤❤
Not if you make fresh food daily. Many Eastern Europeans do : )). But Americans, it's a different story.

hi, i am indian, tamilian.came to know that we tamils are closely related to ethiopian. the culure ,food habits are more or like same. we simly love you guys
Yes, as a Tamil, I'm shocked at the cultural similarity with Ethiopia.
@@mshara1 sanskrit 4000 year old books wrote that india was ruled by dark skinned kings who came from the opposite side of the Indian ocean in a land called Cusha Dvipa (modern Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan)
So really the similarities with Ethiopia and Somalia that Indians have is due to ancient Cushites ruling India and spreading their astronomy, poetry, religion, culture etc
Even the most ancient 5000 year old rock art cave drawings of ceremonial cows being worshipped by humans, isn't found in India but in Dhaymoole archeological site in Somalia (who is related to Ethiopia as both descended from Cushites)
@@hassanabdikarimmohamed2505 cush not semites like habeshas
@@Studywise_io yes at that time 4000 years ago the horn of Africa was settled only by fully Cushitic tribes like Somalis Sidama Afar Agaw etc... The habesha came into existence in the last 3000 years due to invasions from the Sabean queen of sheba kingdom of South Yemen taking Eritrea and north Ethiopia where the new semitic conquerors mixed with Agaw tribes thus creating modern habesha

This video really gives me good vibe...I smiled throughout watching the video. I am Nigerian living in the U.S, but my favorite African country is Ethiopia, my passion grew for the country when I started watching sport, track and field precisely and I love how the Ethiopian athletes speak Amharic language gracefully. I call Ethiopia the "Coffee Country", They are experts at coffee making and I love the fact that they are humble souls, happy people, and accomodating. I started learning Amharic and also learning their culture and style, I will be visiting this favorite country (Ethiopia) soon during my vacation. Great Ethiopia, Great video. In my dad's region in southern Ethiopia where coffee is from and grows in the cooler, mountainous climates, they actually put "butter" or kibeh with salt and it's REALLY GOOD. What a great idea to do a video of the market supplies
workers before opening - a glimpse of real (hard!) life even adventurous travellers wouldn't be lucky to see!
First thing I notice is that they are a very happy people!!!
there is deep sporituality there one you can experience by being at the place. It is a very religious country. I believe thats the main reason.
Plus a robust economy selling a very valuable world-wide commodity - coffee.

The hosts that accompanied Mark in his vids , as well as maybe about 90% of the Ethiopian people seen in the background of this vid I caught smiling from ear to ear like all of them just won the lottery or something... haha... i don't know, i just feel like they are very kind people. And obviously, happy people. Good on them.
Yes very very happy and proud people 💚💛💝you can even see how we eat, sharing at the center... sharing is happiness is our motto
You are right.you know resntlly many investors coming to Ethiopia . and our PM ask them why Ethiopia and now?one thing they showed him was a chart which tells how people are happy and told him according to our chart we find Ethiopian people are one of the happyst. true story
16:02 Yes, Mark. In Ethiopia we say
"He the one who eats alone, dies alone"
Our culture is highly social, if you are anti social you will hate it.
Our culture is against antisocial, against atheism, against, hate, against disrespecting others.
Our culture is completely dependent on social life, if a family brings the injera, the neighbour bring the stew, or anything else. If anybody dies, the whole neighbourhood mourns, and the family doesn't have to cook clean or do anything for a month or so. Through all these times the neighbours and relatives take care of the hosting, and socializing so the family mourns at ease, and won't be left devastated.
That's how we live in our country.
But here, everything is opposite. That's why there is so much mental illness in this part of the world than anywhere else.
Great little poem you got, as an Ethiopian I agree
@@edensolomon23 Poem?
Sam LSD: Thank you, you said it all. I wish I could have that life for the rest of my life.
What's wrong with atheism? I respect other religions even though I don't believe in any god
@@benwass5209 😂😂🤣🤣🤣 good for you.
Love the Ethiopians! Such a cool country, amazing people, and the best food and coffee! I spent a year in Addis and Hawassa and as an Indian, must say it was among the hospitable experiences of my life. Great video, Mark! Loved the other one with the family as well, really nice authentic showcase!
Oh my, everything looked so delicious, we drove 45 minutes to get Ethiopian. Gonna try to make it at home too. Yum.
