One of the best videos I've seen on this. Everyone else runs their mouth and seem to never shut up you just cut to the chase and show us everything we need!
Watched this video after my 2005 f350 had started hesitating after I had to punch it to avoid an accident. About 3 stop lights later.. she was not having it. Started looking on different forums, and so many commented on this EGR valve. So, we went out , got the supplies, new gasket/ o rings.. carburetor cleaner , and did all the steps you showed. I’m pretty sure this thing has never been cleaned. It was completely packed. After all the clean, parts back in, my girl is running like a dream! Thank you for the video, gave me the confidence to tackle at home! Thank you thank you!
My f550 was accelerating slow and would blow some white smoke which would quickly turn to black smoke once the turbo caught up. Decided to remove mine and check it out, boy was it full of soot, and small crumbs were holding the valve open. I just cleaned it and put it back no new o-rings or gasket (they were in good shape) and now she's running better than I ever expected. I figured since it was a 550 it was just slow and well it still is but I can actually get up to speed and maintain my speed on the highway now. Turbo spools way faster, was gonna just delete the EGR but if I can get away with cleaning it every so often I'll just do that for now.
Was getting the P404 code so went ahead and cleaned the EGR as you show. Mine was as bad as the one you cleaned and came out great. Valve now moves freely, opens and closes as it should. Actually notice the difference in performance.
Great video made cleaning my egr valve a breeze. But you said you'd be addressing the wet soot problem you were having. I couldn't find a video on it, on your page. I had some wet soot in there. But my egr valve itself was really clean compared to what you pulled out. Wondering what is causing my valve chamber to have the wet soot.
Shortly after cleaning this EGR it was discovered that I had a blown head gasket. Hope this is not your case because it was not a cheap/easy fix but needed to be done. Thanks for watching
@@funbro1 I'm guessing you're in a place that has regular emissions testing? I'm fortunate enough to not be. I also work in the oilfield where these trucks were everywhere. The welded plug egr delete has proven to be the best solution from what I have observed.
I know it is 2022 but I have a question in regard to EGR. My father in law passed away and he left a 2006 F250 SD 6.0, V8 to my wife. He put a scan gauge 2 on the truck. He was a tinkerer when it came to his Ford truck. I had to send the gauge to Linear Logic to repair the screen. Now that I have input the advanced settings into it I am trying to read the gauges. It shows the EGR position as 0 (which I think is the closed position). Upon start up should the EGR be in a fully closed position and then open as the truck warms up? I am not a Ford guy and I am researching everything to get this vehicle operating without losing an arm and a leg. We will end up selling it. Thanks so much for any assistance.
We are new 6.0 f250 owners here! Here all the delete this, delete that.....what if one was to maintain the stuff?? Ours was serviced a year ago at 165k miles. Maybe a quick cleaning by now.
Egr cooler is leaking. Use vegetable oil or silicone on o-rings, petroleum swells o-rings. If cooler goes and hydro locks motor and it will, do not keep trying to crank it. Lot cheaper to just fix it now. Best of luck!
Best video of the process by far. I'm over critical on RUclips, and there is no criticism to be offered. Outstanding. I do have a question about cleaning. There are two holes at the base just above [or below] the housing for the electronic connection. Should those be clean by using carb cleaner and a tube to get inside, or is that something to be avoided? Thanks again.
The fact that the truck won't start is concerning. Make sure everything is plugged in tightly, reset the code and it should be good to go. The P1000 code will usually go away with normal driving. Hopefully this helps, let us know if this works or what you find. Thanks for watching.
funbro1 I reset the code and made sure it was plugged in. It’s cranking fine just I don’t think I’m getting fuel. I need to do more trouble shooting but if I got carb clean inside those holes on accident and the valve broke could that be the problem?
Hi I have a slight problem with mine. when I went to remove mine the top part down to the ears for the bolts is the only part that came off the actual valve assembly was stuck in the manifold and would not come out. I cleaned what and put it back on the truck it still functions so it didn't break from that but any ideas on how I can get the valve out of the manifold because I don't trust it now and would like to replace it after that because i'm not to sure its supposed to come off like that and feel it might fail lol

Glad it helped her out, back to running good.
Thanks for watching.
Straight to the point. Thanks for making this video short and concise. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks for watching. Merry Christmas.
Love it when people think about cleaning sensors frequenly instead of waiting for failure. Thank you sir
I agree.

Thank you so much!!!! I love how simple you make this seem. It all the facts that I need without the fluff. I am going to clean mine now. :-)
Awesome! Thanks for watching.

Awesome, Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the help man! A lot of detail.
Any time! Thanks for watching.

Thank you. I have a different vehicle, but found this really useful (once I found my own EGR valve) ;)
Thanks for watching.
Best way to clean and remedy or prevent any egr problems in a 6.0 powerstroke?
Plug off style delete.
Did mine years ago.
No problems.
Only if. Thanks for watching.

I'm fortunate enough to not be.

Sounds like you have a bunch going on there, so much that it would require a visual before making any recommendations.
Thanks for watching.
Did you ever figure out why it was wet in the manifoild? im having the same issue.
Blown head gasket
Just priced a replacement EGR Valve and the gasket set, the valve is only $10 more. Any reason not to just replace the valve instead of cleaning?
Just the convenience...and $10 that's all. Thanks for the comment and Thanks for watching.
What are you comparing the new valve to that is only $10 more, a can of carb cleaner?
Good video, interested in what you would do about how wet it is?
Shouldn’t be too wet. Thanks for watching.
As a 14 year veteran of being a heavy equipment mechanic, if you pull a part, don't service it, replace it with OEM and all new seals if applicable.
If you have the money, sure. Thanks for watching.

Great vid. What promoted you to clean your EGR? An error code? if so which one?
Just cleaning it out. Eventually ended up deleting it. Thanks for watching.
thanks for the video that given me a idea of how to doing mi self
Thank you for watching.
Did you have to unplug battery? The negative to remove the valve
I didn't for this video but it wouldn't hurt if you are more comfortable that way. Thanks for watching.
What's causing the moister in the egr housing?
Could be a blown head gasket.

Just to be safe I would avoid that area. Thanks for watching.
Hey man I cleaned my valve reconnected everything and now I’m pulling a p1000 code and my truck won’t start.

Do a delete and never worry about it ever again.

of course its the cam position sensor.
Why didn’t you lube the O rings first to help ease them in place
No reason, you can use lube if you would like. Thanks for watching.
Just oil or ??
Yes oil will work. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.
Thank you
You're welcome, Thanks for watching.

Why not pressure wash it?
You can pressure wash it.
