I really hope Delta keeps and CHERISHES the 717 family. I see the plane as the last of a truly robust heritage of narrowbody airliners and want to continue to see it for a while!
It was planned for 2030, then became 2027 and now is 2025, but that means they will treat them like shit, spending no money on them and they will never put them all back into service post COVID. And those are just the announcements. Also realize that it will take a couple years once they start until the last one is gone since Airbus has other A220 customers. Delta changes its mind every couple of months internally on the fleet plan for these - drives the planners nuts. Three have been scrapped and there are a couple of hot spares and always 4-6 in heavy check at any given time and about 15 will just stay parked. Most Delta people don't know what the plan is at any given time, save for the Sr VP Tech Ops and CFO Treasurer. Ed Bastian hates the airplane and anyone who likes it, so it could get ugly.
Such a great airplane! DAL is my home airport and I used to take the DAL-ATL 717 flight almost every other weekend. I really think we take these things for granted and I hope to see them live on. During covid, most of the 717's ran out of A & B concourse at ATL which was pretty neat. I Wish we still got the 717 into Dallas but Delta swapped to the A319 (sometimes A320) for the DAL-ATL route. DFW used to get the 717 as well but now we only get the A321 to ATL. Such a bummer! Great video!
My home city!!!! Amazing trip report as always, Hadi! The approaches into DAL are always super beautiful, flying right by downtown and all the skyscrapers is a sight very rarely seen nowadays!
Very professional review - great technical information and descriptions - wouldn’t change a thing in your format . Need you to do a Delta A321NEO main cabin review before I take my sister , nieces and nephew to Maui via DAL and LAX on one in December☺️
sweet review on the delta 717, i’m sure they’ll look great with the ifes delta planned to install on them! once again excellent video like always and i loved the takeoff out of atl very sweet views.
This is one of the best trip reports I’ve seen so far 👏👏. I’m working on my Delta 717 trip report video and I definitely have a lot I need to work on for filming 😂😅
As the video started, I had to mentally retrace how you got to ATL! I remember you telling me you took a bus from Champaign to St Louis arriving at o'dark thirty, then getting to STL well before departure time where the previous video picks up. At arrival in ATL, going down the escalator, there was an overhead sign advertising Illinois, something for you to smile at! I know SWA doesn't serve DFW so I suspect that aircraft you caught may have flown there for maintenance issues. From what I know,DAL cannot expand their gates due to I believe federal law( Correction anybody?) My thought is that only SWA, DL and Alaska serve DAL--years ago, there was Legend Airlines who flew business class DC-9 30's from DAL to various places, they were located on the north side of DAL, same side as today's JSX, flying E-145's to HOU among other destinations. What did you do for a week in Dallas?
I loved flying the 717 out of Bloomington on Air Tran!!!! As some who follows your Instagram, I love how you called the southwest flight back an ordeal!😂
When it first came out, the 717 was the plane nobody wanted. Years after production stopped, it was the only plane in the 100-120 seat market until the A220 launched. I think Delta should retrofit them with seatback screens if they plan on keeping them for a long time, as they do kind of stick out like a sore thumb as the only type in the mainline fleet without it.
Wouldn't say they plan to keep them for many years to come. The plan is to phase them all out by 2025 as the 220 fleet expands. They are now very costly to maintain and not as efficient.
@@johniii8147 Atlanta is only major international airport for the southeast region. Residents from neighboring states connect through the airport frequently. You really don’t have options flying from Birmingham’s airport without connecting through Atlanta.
@@BabyBang17datruth There are plenty of other options on AA connecting over either CLT or DFW. Both are very large hubs in their own right. It's true ATL has great connectivity since have been been building the hub for half a century now. But so does AA. The real volume for ATL comes out of FL
No IFE retrofit is going to happen. A220's are coming in faster now and the retirement will accelerate. Expect Delta to not spend a dime on this airplane anymore. Of course I love the airplane, but this is how airlines work. Alaska did the same thing to their wonderful MD-80s. In two years they will be gone from DL.
@AS Aviation hey bro.. I request you to make a model airport of Indira Gandhi International Airport of Delhi as you have always made airports of Pakistan but not a single Indian airport I hope you'll make it soon

"The pilots must of flown for Southwest" 🤣
Great video, man! Would love to try Delta someday!
Good news for those DC-9 lovers. Delta Airlines announced that they are extended the Boeing 717 retirement until 2025 instead of next year 2023
It was never planned for 2023

Great! I love them!
26E forever and always best seat in the house.
Awesome flight on B717-200 N988AT #Angry Puppies I hope you had an awesome onboard B717-200 N988AT Love and miss the Angry Puppies.
Man, I love these old planes! Such amazing engine sound that's an asmr for my ears! Thanks for the report my man!
I sat in 23A it was pretty nice! The 717 is a beast of an aircraft I flew this route in august of this year very fun aircraft to fly

Thanks a lot man! DAL truly has such a cool approach.
The Choice of Engine is interesting of this plane.

Thank you sir. Well I can’t promise a Delta A321neo review but I do have a Frontier A321neo review coming in a few weeks 😂
I've been on this route and the return. My favorite moment is talking smack to the Southworst people who check your ticket and ID before TSA.
What a lovely Video! ! The wait was worth it! Edit: The last 717 flight I took was the Hawaiian Island Hopper between Islands
Madpuppies never fail to disappoint! Love the buzzing sound on takeoff 🔥. Still wish the Maddogs were still with us tho..
Great video!

Thanks for the comment sir, I was visiting some close friends in Dallas.
Love the 717! Flying on one in December. In my experience, 26E is the best seat on the plane! Perfect view of both the engine and wing.
Enjoy your flight man! Yeah row 26 definitely is the best, gotta consider that next time.
High quality content!!!

Man I really miss those AirTran 717’s at BMI!!
DC 9 we also flew as Med Vac in Air Force.

Can you do the flight from Singapore to New York, thank you
The boeing 717 still exist yet? I dont knew that!

Me wondering if they used flaps on takeoff.
Voltea in eu operates them
I believe another reason for atlanta being busy is alabama not having a functional international airport
Really doesn't have anything to do with it.
