On two occasions, I transferred at ATL (with Delta) for flights to/from Shannon, Ireland. The origin of my trips: San Francisco! The transfers went smoothly, no problems.
Have been through ATL hundreds, maybe a thousand times in my 50+ years of travel. Haven't had many problems there. Things usually went well. I have been to dozens of airports in US and abroad. My opinion is that ATL is the best laid out airport in the world. The original ladder format meant that expansion was just a matter of adding a rung to the ladder. You don't have to "learn" ATL. If you know your alphabet, you can find your way, easily with no experience.
Delta fly's 8 shuttles a day to Atlanta from the small regional airport that I use for air travel. Each flight is always full and takes less than an hour to complete. Without this service I would be forced to fly United on only 2 one in a half hour daily flights to either Chicago O'Hare or Newark to make my connection.
I live in Memphis so transferring through ATL is both convenient and efficient. I’ve transited through ATL numerous times on the way to Orlando and other destinations. If you can stand the crowds, it’s pretty convenient.
I transferred at ATL to and from HNL in the summer of 2017. An MD-88 from PHL to ATL and an A330-300 from ATL to HNL, and another A330-300 from HTL back to ATL and another MD-88 back home! 😊
I basically hub hopped the last time I flew Delta from the east coast to asia. Atlanta was the last stop before getting back home and it was smooth and easy to navigate. And I've never been to Atlanta's airport before then
I indeed have transferred at Atlanta many times, but only one of those was recently, it was an easy experience, and despite valid criticisms of the airport from an appearance and size standpoint, it manages those aspects quite well in my opinion.
Never flown through ATL for international flights, but I reckon it's a lot better than SFO where your plane "lands" on time, but it gets stuck on the tarmac for a long time waiting for a gate to open up, and you end up missing your connecting flight. That has happened to me a few times.
Delta is the best Airline. I used to travel for work 48 weeks out of a year and mostly used Delta, I can walk through Atlanta's airport with my eyes closed!
NEVER FLY DELTA. Missed first three days of 14-day October 2024 cruise because Delta arrived late in Athens from JFK. Delta customer care (LOL) email stated "As much as I would like to assist, I regrettably can not honor (sic) your request for reimbursement of unexpected expenses. Although we take full responsibility of the delay, Delta's obligation is to get you to your destination which was completed." Delta reimbursed me $0.00 of the $3,100+ expenses we incurred (flight to Istanbul, next port where cruise ship boarded passengers; lodging, meals, misseed 3 of 14 cruise days).
I'm one of those rare people that's never actually transferred between flights at Hartsfield. That's because, as you've probably guessed, I'm *from* Atlanta ... so to me, it's all origin/destination. And since Delta basically goes *everywhere*, it's awesome.
There used to be a saying that if you were on Delta, it doesn't matter if you're going to heaven or hell, you're changing in Atlanta. I changed once in Atlanta, but it wasn't on Delta, it was on Southwest. Atlanta is an efficient airport, both for O&D and transfers, but it was designed to favor the latter.
Atlanta is efficient tbh. But I find that its a tad boring at times. They need to spruce up the Concourse or add a little Razzle Dazzle so those with longer layovers can enjoy something fun.
Every major city has at least 2 airports except ATL. Hartsfield is my home airport but it’s getting too crowded. Atlanta needs to build another airport north of the city
Where exactly would you like that airport to be? You think the areas around PDK, RYY or LZU want the increased traffic by turning commercial? You think Alpharetta is going to entertain a commercial airport being built there? Go any farther north and you might as well just go to Chattanooga.
I’ve transferred both internationally and domestically through ATL. It is not a pleasant airport to use due to its size and number of people using the facility. Lots of walking up and down escalators, train rides. Don’t really like it, but no other option to Joburg, for example. Just seems like an old, tired facility.
Can’t with his pronunciation. Just pronounce it the English way. Every language has their own way of pronouncing foreign cities and geographical locations. It’s ok😂
I have transferred through Atlanta. It was very easy and efficient. The employees got me to where I needed to be. It was great.

ATL is very efficient to connect through when compared to ORD for example but I wish the terminals were nicer
I live in Savannah GA and I’m a Delta loyal customer. Every flight I take to California or Michigan stops at Atlanta

I've been avoiding it lately due to all the crowds, the train rides and the narrow terminals without moving walkways.

This is an incredibly well run hub…orderly and very organized especially for the huge volume of passengers.

That happens plenty in ATL too.

Love Delta!
