There's been many songs written about Elvis, but this is at the top of the list and Alannah is the only one who could have done it the justice it deserves. Her bluesy voice and sultry ways. I have been listening to this since it came out '89 or '90. Won a grammy.
The song is a paean to Elvis Presley, whose portrait was often painted on black velvet, and who used a hair dye named Black Velvet. Co-writer Christopher Ward, who was Myles' then-boyfriend, was inspired on a bus full of Elvis fans riding to Memphis attending the 10th anniversary vigil at Graceland, in 1987.
Who still listening to this beautiful tribute song to the King of Rock n Roll. I remember back in 1989 when it was released, I was still in High School. It was replay back then on a Tape Cassette Radio 📻 and it's on repeat on my android phone. Awesome song 🎵 ♥️ 👌
Absolutely what made this track amazing was the producer,..... the person who arranged the over dubs, the haunting base lines and the Hammond organ work. On top of of all that is an incredible female voice. Well done to all involved.
Love hearing it while I was living in Asbury park and I use to go to the green parrot club in Neptune where I met Bruce Springsteen. Black velvet is the true King of rock and roll..but Bruce was born in the USA

For my money, to this day Alannah Myles remains the hottest, most earthy, sensual, preeminent rock goddess to ever come out of Canada. Other singers have come and gone but I've NEVER gotten tired of hearing her voice.

For the longest time, I didn't realize what this song was actually about. What a wonderful tribute to The King of Rock n' Roll.
Well Damn!
I thought it was about Whiskey,
Thanks for clearing that up!
@@brianrichter1382 you could probably still argue it's a double entendre.
The name of the hair dye back in those days was called Black Velvet rock or black is now the term
Wow, knowing that then listening again, it's pretty clear, it's all about elvis. Thanks !
One great thing about our neighbors from up north is that they've got great music. Alannah is a good example.
One of the best songs ever recorded.
I love it! Her voice is amazing & so full of emotion.
Heard this song 30 years ago. Still a hit. Timeless whiskey blues to my ears.
All those paintings of the King of Rock-n-Roll being done on "black velvet" should make sense now!
Used to listen to this song on Art Bell Coast to Coast back in the 90s growing up. 30 years later still in my daily playlist.
My name is alannah and that’s why I’m listening to this right now
I don't give a damn who or what she is singing about. Look at how great of a job she done singing this song. Kick ass song.
It's a dedication to Elvis & is written with his Mother at heart. It is beautiful! And so is Alana & her voice.
It's Alannah.
Absolutely what made this track amazing was the producer,..... the person who arranged the over dubs, the haunting base lines and the Hammond organ work. On top of of all that is an incredible female voice. Well done to all involved.
Alannah, Black Velvet, simply irresistible. The song really stood the test of time.
Yes, it sure did.
Love hearing it while I was living in Asbury park and I use to go to the green parrot club in Neptune where I met Bruce Springsteen.
Black velvet is the true King of rock and roll..but Bruce was born in the USA
As someone born in early 90s i can say hands down the 70s and 80s had REAL music
Music really started in the mid-50s and unfortunately died in the early eighties. Now they just scream obscenities to an obnoxiously loud Bass.
@@Overkill06 to each there own
Will never get old. When I was a small boy my mom would be cleaning the house singing to this and would pick me up dancing in her arms, and singing to hairbrush with her. Burned in my brain every time I hear this I think of my mom.
I was sailing off to Brazil, leaving the Texas coast when I heard this song, it hit me nice. Cheers to all. 😀💫💥
Black 🖤 Velvet Yesssssssss, Damn Now this is what you call MUSIC 🎶🎶🎶 September 11, 2024 Black 🖤 Velvet if you Please. They just don't make them like this anymore. There's no feeling in today's music or what they perceive to call music. Listening 🎧 to this Masterpiece gives me Goosebumps and that Nostalgic Feeling ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jesus this song still gives me chills still I was a kid when it came out still vibing off of it!!! Thank you Alanna!!
Now that's what I call a BAD ASS GROOVY BASS LINE!
Soo good!
What a voice, what a music! Never gets outdated.
I cannot believe it taken me so long to realize just how AMAZING this Queen of Rock is . this song is one of the most powerful and memorable song ever created!
My mom loved this song. She is already 5 years dead..
And when i'm listening this song..i feel her next to me.
♥
❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely....my mom's favorite Rest In Heaven ladies
Sorry for your loss. I get it!
Hell yeah
My ma loved this too. My ma's been gone for 9 years and she loved music. After she passed, I couldn't listen to music for a while without losing it. It's amazing how a song can bring back so much. RIP
Phenomenal voice ❤❤
I still listen to my 1980s music. That's it.
Late 70's through early 90's .. I'm there... 80's music was a huge painted picture. That's the best way I can explain it.
Having living through it... Class of 80'

Had woman come up to me singing this song at karaoke the other night while I was playing pool. She was all over the table just staring at me. Brought me here lol. She had some pipes on her. Did the whole act. She was something else lol. Older but still got it haha
Nice bet you enjoyed it ❤
Love this song!!! I'm an Elvis fan, always have been! Thank you Alannah!
Its been over 20 years and this song still makes me think of her .....maybe you never get over your first love
I feel this on a deep level good sir.
Such an underplayed and under appreciated song! Will always be one of my all-time favs! You've got soul to beat the band, Darlin'!
Black Velvet, If you please?!
This song is so relaxing., I can actually listen to music with no cuss words..❤️🙌👍
long live Elivis
Underplayed and underappreciated? LOL
Yes..she can sing
Underplayed? Are you kidding? This is one of the biggest karaoke songs ever.
This song makes me nostalgic for a place I've never been to and a time when I wasn't yet born. Past life maybe.
her rasp is out of this world. love it!
Love
Im 33 years old. This is the first song I remember my mama listening to and I've loved it since the very first time I heard it. I played this song for her when she was dying because she said it had so much meaning behind it. She loves Elvis. But I think it had another meaning to it for her. I miss her so much
one of the most seductive songs and voices I have ever heard
Done so well with utmost expression - Amazing
Love this song for 2022/2023! What the great video and perfect woman too! ♀️👠
This song came out 6 months before I was born😎😎😎 this was my mother's favorite song back then.. Oh the 80's will always be the best year for music❤
Have always LOVED this song! You don't listen to it; you FEEL it.
Hah. You just explained why I don't listen to music with good lyrics alone. I get all the time "Listen to the words" and I say "NO..the music sucks... they should have wrote a poem!"
Exactly!
A fairly predictable comment to be listed as the first. Are you the divulger comment so as to be provacitve or a guide? Interesting choice of words to capitalize. Apparently I must give warning when catching on, consider your masters warned.
@@lastofthebest5102 And I thought that LSD was unobtainable nowadays . . . .
Oh yes you feel it but to do that you have to listen to the words as well. Music is a combination of emotions. Or to me that's what it is.
I love this song. Her voice is incredible.
For my money, to this day Alannah Myles remains the hottest, most earthy, sensual, preeminent rock goddess to ever come out of Canada. Other singers have come and gone but I've NEVER gotten tired of hearing her voice.
Canada or anywhere else!
And don't forget about K.D . Lang
I love this song here ,it's awesome I never get tired of listening to it .
One word, Alanis
You’ve got shitty taste in women.
To Alannah Myles: your song is way beyond good. It is just fantastic. Before I knew much about Elvis, I just thought it was a real good song-not even having a clue. I’m a huge fan of the King. Thanks so much! And you have a great voice too.
So my son is graduating high school in a few weeks and it just makes me think of this song. He is my Elvis :)
Anyone still enjoying this in 2024'?🤔😃😚😊
Just saying this sing or beat was bouncing around my brain for a few days and bam i figured it out and here it is going on repeat again and again
I'm here.. brilliant song ❤
Me!!!
Yes very much so. Really great song . Her voice.
Absolutely ❤
love her
One of my favorites
Still ... after all these years ... I still love this song.
Don't you?🤠
I have been looking for this song for years! All that because I only remembered it from my younger days, when my English was not so good and I misheard "black velvet" for "black bird". I am so happy that my long quest is now over, as I finally found back this awesome song, and it is as good as it was in my memories.
