  • Today we dive into a heartbreaking case involving a missing 84-year-old widowed grandmother, Rochelle Stanfield, who drove herself into the Mississippi after deciding it was her time to go. This documentary isn't just any investigation and recovery mission - it's a testament to the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit.
As we begin, we must confess that the odds are stacked against us. Jared finds himself battling a pounding headache and illness, which adds an extra layer of difficulty to the already challenging task ahead. The fear of potential complications, such as ear problems during the dive, looms. However, Jared is determined to proceed cautiously and ensure everyone's safety. If circumstances become too risky, he may need to postpone the mission temporarily. But rest assured, Jared will persevere and find a way to bring closure to Rochelle Stanfield's family.
To set the stage, imagine a scenario, of your own grandmother, attempting to take her own life but failing, only to try again later in the year, driving herself into the Mississippi River. Thankfully, a local fisherman witnesses this distressing scene and called out, offering assistance. Yet, our grandma defiantly responds, assuring him that she'll be just fine. This incident sheds light on a larger, often overlooked issue in our society.
While much attention has been given to the tragic statistic of 22 veterans per day taking their own lives, it is startling to discover that more seniors actually succumb to this heartbreaking fate daily. Why aren't we discussing it? Why aren't we taking action? Loneliness emerges as the leading cause behind the alarming number of senior suicides. Today, we focus on one specific grandmother, an 84-year-old widow deeply cherished by her community and family. But what drives our seniors to such extreme measures? We must find answers and bring attention to this pressing concern in so much as we do our veterans.
This documentary not only serves as a platform for sharing these stories, but it also enables us to continue our mission of aiding families and law enforcement free of charge. By highlighting these struggles, we hope to inspire change and foster a supportive environment for those in need. Today, we stand on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, ready to unravel the tale of Jaime, a granddaughter whose son's uncle happens to be the sheriff. Rest assured, this is not a case where law enforcement lacks interest; rather, it's a story of communities rallying together when resources are scarce.
Throughout the unfolding of this documentary, we will bear witness to the stories of the lost and those in desperate need of help. Local agencies and families alike require our support, and it is our duty to provide it. Our target lies approximately 220 feet out and 70 feet deep in the river's depths. AWP is fully committed to utilizing our skills and resources to bring this grandmother home to her family. Your presence and engagement in this journey are deeply appreciated as we strive to make a difference.
Now, let's dive into the preparations for today's search as we discuss the details, and we learn that the grandmother's vehicle, a white Lincoln Navigator SUV, is believed to be submerged in the river. With two months having passed, the sonar readings and lack of silt accumulation give us hope that the vehicle remains visible on the riverbed.

There will never be enough words that I could say to thank Jared and Adventures with Purpose for what they did not only for me and my family but for a whole community of people who loved my Nana. When all hope felt lost they came in and found closure for me and my family. They showed the upmost respect to our every wish and were willing to come across the country to risk their lives to do what they did. So Jared thank you so much again for everything!! Without yall I would never have found peace after such a tragedy !! What you do is truly the most selfless act one could do. You risked your life for a stranger when you didn't have to. Please everyone donate to Adventures with Purpose if you can. What they are doing is helping so many people find peace and closure when all seems lost. Thank you. I will FOREVER be thankful. And thank you for creating such a beautiful documentary that I know is going to save lives and help people.💚

      Jaime,
I want you to know that every heartfelt sentiment you've expressed is reciprocated tenfold. I am sincerely grateful that Adventures With Purpose has been able to provide some solace to you and your family in the midst of your profound loss and that you have allowed us to share your Nana's struggles and her story.
Losing your Nana, Rochelle, was undoubtedly a tremendous hardship. To endure such an experience is unimaginably difficult, and our deepest sympathies are with you. The love that you and your family have for Rochelle shines through in your every word, and we were incredibly humbled to be able to honor her memory in our search and recovery of her.
The Adventures With Purpose, "Purpose", has changed from diving for trash to clean up the environment to what it is now, to provide assistance to those who felt as though all hope was lost. To know that we have achieved that for you and your family is both humbling and empowering. Our work is often challenging and requires great sacrifice, but messages like yours remind us of why we do what we do. It reinforces our mission and gives us the strength to continue our work, despite the difficulties we may encounter.
Your words are a testament to the fact that every risk we take, every river we dive into, is worth it if we can bring peace to even one family suffering from the loss of a loved one.
The fact that you've taken the time to encourage others to support our mission is so incredibly generous of you for as you know, we step into every mission free of charge. Your strength and resilience, in the face of such adversity, are truly inspiring. It's this kind of selflessness that fuels our mission, and we thank you for spreading the word.
The documentary, while created to highlight our work, is most importantly a tribute to the lives of those we've found, like your Nana. It's our hope that this piece will inspire others to take action, save lives, and assist people in finding peace, just as we've been able to do for you, but also allows others to find AWP in the same way your family did, and was able to reach out to us for assistance.
Thank you, Jaime. Your enduring appreciation means more than you could possibly know. We will continue to honor your Nana's memory in all that we do, and we hope that you and your family find comfort in the memories of the love you shared with her.
      With deepest respect,
Jared and the Adventures With Purpose Team

its very sad that in this age of information and ease of communication, we have lost the sense of unity as a society. How much wisdom used to be handed down, from the elderly to the young. lost my grandma two years ago, and its been crazy. One really don't know what one has till its lost. Hope you can find everyday peace and happiness. That's the issue with modern society. 50-100 years ago many kids, parents, grandparents even great-grandparents lived in one house and often at least one family member was staying at home all the time while the other one was working. But nowadays, due to the horrendous prices for rent and for buying/building a big enough house, it pretty much became impossible to live that way, especially in bigger/more crowded cities.

This is why I'm so grateful my parents moved within a couple miles of me - while they did it to be close to their granddaughter, I am happy they're close so when they're losing their ability to care for themselves, I'm close by. And once one of them is alone (hopefully very far in the future), I intend to pass my house to my daughter and move in with my remaining parent. They will never be alone unless it's by their choice.

My grandfather took his own life at 76. When we think of suicide, we think of teens and young adults because “they’re gone too soon.” Even a day before you’re meant to go is too soon. The elderly are the forgotten demographic in this conversation, and it’s heartbreaking.

I think what breaks me in these videos that I’m use to police calling the victims “the body” and here they always call them by their name, as if they haven’t left us. It makes it feel so much more personal and I can’t help but cry

    • @Databyter
      @Databyter 10 месяцев назад +55

To be fair, police usually do use more sensitivity when dealing with families. As an ex Firefighter we focussed on the job and our training, and although we tried to be sensitive to some humanity we had to turn humanity off at times to do the very difficult tasks that we sometimes were faced with. We can't personalize every single death and accident victim and function at our task. We think about it later, and then let it go. When dealing with families, tht contact is usually much more sensitive. It is the nature of documentaries that you catch professional rescue or recovery lingo that is not intended for the family. Of course I agree that AWP is stellar, but lets not sell other divers and LEO's short. A;lmost everyone does their best to respect the sensitivity of a family losing a loved one.

It is because the Mississippi is a beast. Many people who enter the river will never be found. The current is strong and tricky and there is many debris that can kill, trap or injure you. And the deepth is dangerous. Diving deeper than 40 feet is highly dangerous (and yes, I know the car sat at 60 feet). At the time grandma drove into the river the water was 40 feet higher than now (he said that it went from 70 to 30). So the current was way more powerful than any diver could survive. And the temperature could kill you, too. Sometimes there is just no possibility to get the bodies out in a timely manner.
There are quite a few hellish rivers all over the world and the Mississippi plays in the professional ranks.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for treating every victim you recover with such kindness. You always ensure their dignity by calling them by name or by their association to their loved one. You never call them as just a “body” you treat the deceased with such respect and compassion. In other words, you bring the human touch that can oftentimes sadly be so lacking. Your compassion and dedication to your cause is admirable. I hope you’re feeling better now.

I’m 66 and have had the pleasure of knowing Mrs Rochelle since I was a young child. I spent so much time at her home as a child as a teen and as an adult . Thanks Jared and AWP for recovery of her body. I know without a doubt her soul lives on and her love for her two daughters and her grands and great grands . We never know when someone will make this decision to end life. As far as closure, it still hurts that she couldn’t be helped and to hear you say how many seniors are at risk for suicide is eye opening. Lord be with her family and her huge circle of friends. We all wish we could have made a difference. She made a difference on so many lives. Rest In Peace Mrs Rochelle. We love you and we miss you .😢

But suicide, especially to disappear into a watery grave on purpose, absolutely no. Never, never could I do that to the ones I love. Life is hard and there is no way I would make it harder for others intentionally.
Jared you are an angel serving those left behind who are suffering. I wish these sad precious souls could find the strength to live out their natural lives. I wish accidents didn't happen. But it is what it is. And you are helping so many families and friends to heal. Thank you 💞

It sickens me that people out there just throw the old people away like garbage. Those guys built the foundation we are building our world on. SHOW SOME RESPECT. I know older people sometimes have "weird" views or maybe talk "weird" sometimes, but REMEMBER: your grandchildren will think that of you as well. So, if you don't want to be thrown away later on, then EARN IT TODAY. Visit your grandparents TODAY. Not tomorrow, TODAY. Earn it.

As a 63 year old woman who’s husband left after 30 years, I totally understand why so many seniors take their lives.
We spend so much time thinking about how the loss affects us when they die but, put yourself in our shoes. Imagine your body reaching a point where just getting out of bed is painful. Imagine being at an age where finding a new life partner is virtually impossible for multiple reasons including the fact that there are so few people living to that age. Imagine your children moving into their own homes and lives and not really being able to be present in your life. They have their own lives and they don’t need you anymore and that’s how it should be. Perhaps your spouse is dead or gone, maybe you’re terminally I’ll and your death will be painful. At what point are we unreasonably expecting elderly people to endure both physical and mental pain while knowing that death is the end game no matter what. Imagine loss of control over your life, perhaps over your body? At some point, expecting someone to want to keep living because you will miss them becomes inhumane. What’s wrong with someone who is in their 80s wanting to have control over their final day?

I wish consensual and ethical euthanasia was possible or more possible, we see it as a good thing when we spare our pets from a painful long death but we don't let humans choose that for themselves? It would probably lower suicide rates in older people too if they knew that they could choose when to peacefully go if their body starting getting worse all of a sudden, I'm sure there is a lot of fear when your body starts to wear down and relationships change

Nothing. Answering your last proposed question. My spouse and I have both informed our children we may take a hale bop cocktail. Neither of us wants to be cared for by our children or anybody else if we get unable to care for ourselves. Short term is one thing, but long term or severe pain. Not staying. If I'm penalized on the otherside, so be it. Our adult kids don't like hearing this, but will know it's our choice. Of course, 80 years in fairly good shape and not wake one morning would be a nice way to go.

It's been 10 years since my dad decided to leave this life and join his beloved wife in heaven. He had told my sister and me ever since we were teens that he was not going to be a burden to us and when the time came, he would proceed with his plans. I supported his decision, my sister still hasn't forgiven him. Doesn't make it easier. His grandchildren (older teens, 20s and 30s) could not understand why he would put us through a suicide. I explained loneliness to them; he had broken up with his girlfriend, the church family quit coming to visit after his Lewy-Body dementia changed his personality, and none of us could move up to be with him. He refused to move to be closer to us, he stopped taking all his meds, and after he couldn't finish a pulmonary rehab session, he decided his time on earth was over. Hopefully he and Mom and back together with their families.

My partner left me for someone else. Total devastation. He was my world. I'm 65. I'm finding it hard to see a reason to get out of bed in the morning. I have a very small family, they're not bothered about me or my depression. I am in poor health. I can't join a club or look for love again.

I left this channel over Jared's choices when he was a young man but returned as I learned more because we all make mistakes when we are young, foolish, hurt and confused. Watching this video, all I could think was "redemption". Jared has earned it the hard way. Love you man.

Very true. I feel like he has atoned for what he has done in the past. He was young and made an awful choice, but he is doing what he can to help others, dedicating his life to it.

Same here. He could have disappeared, that would have been earlier, but he knows that pain all too well for these families and continues to show up, sick, humiliated, alone. That’s a good man.

This video means something special to me. I am a U.S. Marine Veteran. Last year, I attempted to end things by swollowing 3 bottles of antidepressants and mood stabilizers while on a hike in the mountains of San Bernardino. I knew the chances of being found was slim. Therefore, my selfishness would never be discovered. I was discovered, and my life would be saved by the San Bernardino Sheriffs Department after I was found. I truly believe that today, I am alive only because of devine intervention. I currently see a therapist through the V.A. I have not been right in the head since my daughter died on the 6th of May 2022. I was allowed no closure. My mother tried to hide her cause of death. Add this to past military trauma, and some may understand why I broke. However, through my failure, I have found a new understanding of life. Thank you for doing what y'all do. You have a voice, use it there are people who care, and would love to help. Ending things is never a good option. Hurting yourself hurts more than you. Don't be selfish like me!

Jared you are truly a wonderful human with so much love, compassion and empathy. I do hope that at some stage you can build another team together so that you can rely on someone else when you are sick. I get that this would be difficult for you to do though. It was very worrisome watching you dive while being so sick. Congrats on bringing this beautiful lady home to her family! 💗
