HVL is a tremendous basketball player but in my opinion to shift to point guard her senior year was a mistake. I love her confidence but she is a special scorer and appears to be lost on the court right now at point guard.
You do know that point guards can pass, dribble, and shoot , example, { and no way am i comparing her to these greats } just to make my point, Chris Paul, Damian Lilliard, Magic Johnson, Stephen Curry, jerry West, and others, don't blame HL, she only opperating at the coach decision, who wants everything to go off of her bigs-[Reese and Morrow ] which is the problem,THEY ARE NOT PASSERS, THEY ARE NOT BALL HANDLERS, they are shooters only, so blame the coach not HVL.
@@judgejurylw1026 nah she hasn’t even been the shooter she was hyped to be. Most her points come in transition because when the offense is running sets she gets clamped. And she’s a bad passer I don’t know how many balls I’ve seen her basically just give to the defense. She’s not bad but she has holes all in her game.
After nearly 4 years in college I think it's time to accept that she is what she is. She is a 2 and a combo G at best where she can moonlight at the 1, but she can't run an offense consistently. She'll be drafted, probably in the 2nd rd and she will have to improve her D to have success. Right now if she had to face Chelsea Gray, Kaleah Copper, Sabrina Ionescu, or Jewell Loyd, she'd get COOKED!
@ec5657- Agreed. HVL would even have a lot of trouble w/ lesser profile guards like Ari McDonald, DiJonae Carrington, Courtney Williams, Brittany Sykes, Jordan Canada, etc.
Honestly, I doubt she will be drafted, and if she is it would be because more of a name than that of a quality player. EDIT: Yes, I think she made a huge mistake leaving Louisville.
100% agree. I don't see her going in the 2nd round. She played ok as a 2 and that's where she should've stayed. she's making herself look like a fool at lsu and its only hurting her.@@usveteran9893
She made a massive mistake, she was one of the best NCAA Tournament performers while at Louisville but decided to join LSU to become a PG when she doesn’t have the skill or frame to do so.
LSU is built around Angel Reese. The coach sometimes unable to impart the role a player should be. I have watch as bench warmer, and became a starter with the right coach.
Everyone has stated she's simply not a point guard, she's also not fleet of foot and defensively struggles against faster and also more physical players. When it gets to be crunch time I expect Mulkey to have Williams run the point and HVE move to the 2 and Johnson move on the wing.
Mulkey has to stop acting like she is afraid to put the pressure on Makila she might make mistakes but she won't crack. She played PG in high school and is surrounded by enough talent to make up any mistakes. They have other freshmen running their teams Mulkey needs to let the she don't have the experience factor go and do what makes sense.
The PG position has a lot to do w/ instincts, which HVL does not have. It's a gift to be able to see the floor and be a floor general like Sue Bird, Magic, Stockton, J Kidd, Chelsey Gray or even a Georgia Amoore, Kiki Rice or Alexis Morris. Of course, HVL can and will improve at the position the longer she plays it, but there will always be a ceiling, which is fine. I'm not naturally great with numbers; if I study and drill hard I can improve, but I'm never going to be a math wizard. 🤷
She is not a point guard period, the Louisville head coach saw that. She didn't trust his judgement which is her prerogative to do. She has now gotten exposed as any opposition just attacks LSUs points. All their loses outside of SC attacked the points which is why that game was so close when it shouldn't have been.
Carolina started out so cold and that was the reason the game was close as it was, Carolina out played LSU in 2nd, 3rd and fourth quarters. Shooters only want themselves to shoot the basketball so they don’t pass the ball. So much talent at LSU and they don’t play team basketball well there, what a shame, Kim Mulkey can’t coach and she got exposed, no control over the team and can’t develop a bench with #1 recruiting class with many other sitting on it. LSU got talent but talent along can’t win without team work. Kim too busy making excuses for the shortcomings and bringing attention to herself to coach and players too busy with NIL requirements. Can’t be a good coach by playing high school teams schedule and hope team get better by the time SEC play happens
@@kenichitamagusuku3194 it was close because SC didn't pressure HVL, R. Johnson didn't take one three to open up the floor, especially since she is leading the team in 3pt percent. SC is a superior tame who literally just played down to LSU's level. South Carolina has basically destroyed everyone that LSU lost to - Colorado. Reese is also not a factor because of her lack of conditioning.
Georgia Amoore isn't a real PG to me either. I thought she was until I saw her utter distaste at handling the full court trap. She wanted no parts of it.
She should have stayed in her own lane eyes on her own paper. She had a fabulous fun super star like career in Louisville. Jeff rolled out the red carpet for her there was an understanding there. Kim is preoccupied
Yep, Walz is not an idiot. probably knew better what was good for her better than she did, part of that being she's not headed to the WNBA so relax and enjoy yourself.
He wasn't trying to set her up for anything she was already a successful shooter she wanted to play point guard and he politely told her to get lost. He knew better than Mulkey and had the up close chance to see she was one dimensional she should have accepted that herself.
LSU is the one made the mistake HVL is garbage at the PG position in that system and no matter what team she went to or weather she stayed at Louisville she is not an instant convertible to a PG she certainly is not knowledgeable to run that kind of talent.
Great video that cuts right to the chase. Indeed she is no point guard. In addition to the multiple playmaking mistakes that have been on display over the past two games, she struggles mightily to bring the ball up the floor and initiate offense when under any kind of pressure from a good defender. Her change of fortune this season is legitimately one of the biggest stories in women's college basketball. It appears she is in over her head at LSU.
Been watching her closely, game highlights, stats, what not. But the biggest thing I think the presenter missed is the unmitigated arrogance of Coach Kim Mulkey bringing her in, and saying essentially, yes, we can make you into an elite point guard in a single season. Some, much, most? of the blame lies with the LSU coaching staff. I actually feel bad for HVL, but will heap pretty much all the scorn and derision on Mulkey for going with this bone-headed move in the first place.
which sucks bc thats prolly why kateri left. this is one of the worst parts of the transfer portal-- the "imma stick it out, LEARN THE OFFENSE, and wait my turn" kids get screwed.
My problem with them using HVL is that it was experimental. If Mulkey was a good coach, where was her play be in case this theory failed. Or was Poole supposed to be the backup until she decided to leave? I think Poole left because Mulkey put HVL over her as a point guard. This decision ended up hurting LSU 😢
well if mulkey's gonna experiment, with players who dont know/dont play their positions very well, she might as well "experiment" with velez and janae and LiLi and amani and izzy! just throw them all in there until they learn what to do!! why does hailey get singled out?!
I love LSU but, Kim definitely needs to take Hailey off of the point guard position ASAP! She was shook by the South Carolina player’s aggressive players, Mississippi players and can’t handle the ball under pressure against assertive, aggressive ball handlers!
Give the kid credit for trying to find a place to play the point. However, if you’re fighting with Poa for that pg slot, you are not making a WNBA roster. Doesn’t matter if she’s drafted first or last. Unfortunately, to make a WNBA roster, besides skill, you also need genetics and luck. The hardest workers don’t always make a NBA or WNBA roster. Good luck to HVL, but the WNBA is the elite of the elite, no matter how much people bash the women playing.
That's a laugh. There are players drafted every year that are more skilled than some of players currently on teams that get cut. WNBA just can't seem to let go of some of their "vets" for new younger, better talent.
Good point, but you didn’t read my comment. Luck. Sometimes players are just lucky, whether it’s a coach or gm or injury that may have helped them. Sometimes players are just bad teammates. That’s why it’s called a team sport. Everyone on a team brings something to the table. HVL probably has a good work ethic, but is on the shorter side and slow. 2 things that will challenge her from making a WNBA team. Hence my comment about genetics.
That's a good question, because she has gone from being one of the stars to one of the "also mentioned." I think her star is shining less brightly since her transfer to LSU. But life is more than sports.
I think she needs to remember who HVL is to play with that passion & vigor that she has in these videos. She can ball & she’s a helluva hard worker. I think in your early 20s it is easy to lose yourself in the big personalities, but she too is a big personality & she can’t forget it- she’s too quiet. She gotta trust these girls too, so many open moments & she just doesn’t pass. She’s just gotta move the ball & for the love of god she needs to stop passing to Angel… Angel is our key rebounder & she needs to feed Angel any free balls that didn’t make it in the basket- Angel may have 2 on her but she can get up & get the rebound better than she can make the pass & basket & HVL. If you’re reading this, you didn’t make a mistake. You’re freaking 20. You ball hard, use this as fuel & prove em wrong 🫶🏻
In the WNBA there are 12 teams, a team will keep a rookie or maybe 2. She is going to have a hard time making a team if she can't D up the other guard. She needs to stay at LSU for a second year to work on her D, speed and agility. Two years of point guard in college isn't going to get her ready to play point professionally. She will get on somebodies bench as a project for a couple of years. If she doesn't improve dramatically she will be gone. She will have the ability to play over seas to make some money and maybe get better over there.
she is not making anybodys roster. shes gonna get drafted by a team and theyre gonna put her pretty little face all over every marketable item and promotional video. and then after the 1st preseason game--shes done. she needs to take that finance degree, start a firm, and try to become the go-to financial planner for as many of these pro girls as she can.
I disagree on the Villain part, LSU branded themselves as the Villain when Angel Reese got in Clark's face, then doubled down on it unapologetically. Angel didn't do her teammates any favors when she did that, aside from them winning a Championship, she put a target on herself and LSU. As for HVL, me personally I see it as growing pains the mistakes she makes on the court, she was never gonna look smooth running Point immediately, it was always gonna take time. The hate she gets is mostly from people who hate on LSU, Angel & all. Oh and also videos with titles like these don't do her any favors, you're not helping her as well, if anything you're inviting the slander(indirectly). In any case, I wish people would give her grace and time, praying for her mental health, there's no way dealing with this kind of scrutiny is easy. Wish her the best!
Oh knock it off the press makes Angel the antagonist villain that makes for the best story.Take Angel out the WCBB story line and your Catlin story has no gasoline on the fire. You sound like a jealous ex even you can't get Reese out your head, we talking about HVL. Just burns me up with the Reese nonesense it's ok for Sheroe to have fun ear hustle the crowd running all over the stadium with her arrogance and low key talking shit on the court but it's swag. Then when someone stands 10 toes down and blows her no defense playing azz off the court and captures that chip they should have treated her with kid gloves and apologized for wanting and earning that championship so people will like her and not play her team so hard sounds like some aggravated stupidity. It don't work like that in no sport. Reese doesn't owe Clark graciousness and for your information people been talking shit about Angels passion and playground style of play before those two met in the championship game. Reese came into college with a chip on her shoulders after not being recognized and respected for being a four time high school state champion and the top ranked wing besides being overlooked for any USA basketball while Clark was on every team getting highly praised but hadn't won any state championships in high school. People wanting to beat the defending champs doesn't have a dam thing to do with nothing but competitors that wanna show they can hang with the best. Teams wanted to beat them last year before they ever won a ring. What people need to do is accept the fact that no matter what they say about Angel or how much they hate her it's not going to erase her accomplishments or take that championship ring off her finger, point, blank period. She has what Clark wants and is stuck chasing in her senior year. Reese been there and done that she doesn't have to repeat she can move on her place in college basketball is sealed. Reese accomplished what she wanted to do at the college level she will never have that championship accomplishment taken from her no matter what any other person does or says. Winning games don't mean a thing without that ring it's the purpose behind the hard work these Athletes put in every day.
@@politicallil7060 No. The poster has a legit point. You can add the coach to the list of reasons why LSU is....well... And Angel did it to herself. The press may have capitalized on it, but Angel...what a piece of work.
I kind of agree. They are experiencing the karma from the lack of sportsmanship. Never taunt your opponent unprovoked. Caitlin taunted Raven in the previous game, and then lost the next game. Angel taunts unnecessarily after victory, following the girl around, and LSU doesn't shake Iowa's hands. Now, they are struggling on and off the court. Karma never misses.
Also, if the sport is going to grow, content like this is necessary. The men get analyzed and critiqued to death. They even have whole tv shows with "experts" that trash them daily. The more popular the game becomes, the most criticism they will receive. They better grow a thick skin.
Hailey should have stayed at Louisville, where she would have been showcased on an outstanding team. and possibly made first team All-American and been a first round WNBA draft choice. She seems lost in the glut of talent at LSU. Also the highly strung Mulkey drives her players nuts. With all that, Hailey still could have a fantastic future.
In these interviews HVL is contradictory and somewhat confused. HVL is a really good SG but definitely not a PG. Most SG's have some PG skills. I can't help but think that HVL went to LSU for the attention and the NIL money. I agree that her transfer was a mistake too. Excellent review keep up the great work man.
I have absolutely no issue with her comments about LSU having more talent than many teams they will face. She is talking up her team and again challenging herself. LSU was always going to have a target, so big deal. You want great players to avoid that? LSU's bigger issue was losing Smith and Poole. Poole would be a much needed ball handler off the bench as well as a good defensive player. And Smith was looking awesome before she got injured. They have no depth and these girls often looked gassed. Williams is awesome, but she's still a Freshman and when she's cold it can get really challenging for LSU. I'm just so tired of hearing she made some huge mistake transferring to LSU when in reality she didn't. From my understanding she has never been a good defensive player. From my watching she has improved these last couple of games. LSU lead the #1 team for the majority of the game without much depth. That was actually encouraging. If they get one more call their way or SC gets one less call their way LSU likely wins that game. Everybody predicted they would have a letdown game following that up. I regret LSU doesn't have a bit more bench depth much more than HVL coming to LSU. It's a shame they are lacking options at PG.
@cajunomics350 I wholeheartedly agree! It was NOT a mistake for her to come to LSU. She wanted to learn the PG position, which was not going to happen at Louisville. LSU needed a pg and already had a capable starter in Poole, who, if things didn't work out with Van Lith, could always run the point. But now SHE is gone and Poa is not adequate to be a starter. So, they're left with playing Van Lith at the position. I actually agree in that she WAS starting to look better until the MSU game. She actually played well against SC, but DID make a couple of boneheaded turnovers. But even with that, her numbers for that game were VERY close to Raven Johnson's numbers.
Thank you...the Smith and KP loss killed their defense period and took away an additional 20 points that would have come from the bench. Angel hates playing the five and came to LSU to play the power forward but with Smith gone she's stuck. Morrow was told she'd move to the small forward and play more of a forward guard now she in the post after that being the reason she left DePaul. HVL was told she'd get a chance to run the point but she doesn't have the capability on either end of the floor. The PG position requires a different skill set from the two every 2 guard is not convertible to a PG. I mean she should have spent her summer working with Alexis Morris learning the position instead of playing USA basketball. IMO.
Dare I say that she didn’t want to carry the load anymore at Louisville. She thought that those other girls being so great would make her job easier. It will not if she was about that her foot speed/and studying the position obsessively she didn’t do that.
Well after seeing this I definitely see why the Louisville coach was hesitant to let her play point bc she definitely struggled with it at LSU. He was issuing her according to her strengths and playing PG (as we noticed this year) is definitely not one of them
She’s been overrated this entire time. Some people called her a top 10 player last year while she played 0 defense, shot inefficiently, and had more turnovers than assists. She is good, but not as good as people on twitter thought she was, and now she is playing out of position in a team that she has no chemistry with. I feel bad for her a little, but she made her bed and she’s making more money than me, so…
HVL isn’t much different than what she was at Louisville with the exception of her taking less shots now and maybe a bit less confidence. Playing for LSU just highlighted her flaws (which existed at Louisville) Stanford or Iowa would have been better programs to fit her game
IOWA!? No possible way. Not sure about Stanford but she certainly wasn’t going to get to take some of Caitlin’s shots. Speaking strictly from a basketball perspective if she was going anywhere it needed to be a place where she could fire away at will
I know enough to know that a volume shooter/scorer like hvl would not be a good fit beside Caitlin Clark. Which one would YOU want to see putting up shots? hvl needs to be at a place where plays are run for and built around her. But you never know she may eventually figure out how to play pg
@@audriwilliams7943 Iowa would have ha no interest in HvL if you know that program , environment and style she is not a fit. Thats without even considering the lack of a bball fit. Molly Davis was a transfer fit, Kylie Fuerhbach was a transfer fit. HvL is not that type of personality. Nothing bad about HvL just not the iowa program type.
HVL is a great player. She is just playing out of position. That is the only mistake. She is a great scorer. She needs to focus more on her defense. That is the risk she took going to LSU so she has to live with that whether it’s bad or good. That’s the way risk works you never know what the outcome will be. But she’ll be fine she’s young. She will learn from this and get better.
The mistake was not after the Mississippi State game. Getting caught up in responding to social media trends is a big black hole that will suck up your energy and emotional investment. The BIG MISTAKE that she did make was LEAVING LOUISVILLE. She threw away the three years of investment that Louisville made in her, all in hopes that she would be on a winning team. Now that LSU is not winning, she has regrets.
This is before Smith got hurt. Velez is a true point. Theres too much pressure on both sides of the basketball for her. The loss of poole hurt team mentally. Shes also too lefty dominate this can hurt her later on in her career. ( Driving to the hoop and finishing with your right hand.)
People ragging on Geno for his riffs on the transfer portal, but HVL is living proof that he has good points. Here's a really talented young woman who just hasn't developed into the player many thought she would be coming out of high school, and she tried to make it about the school/coach. Now we're seeing that it wasn't Louisville that was holding her back -- it's HVL. I doubt she sticks on a WNBA roster.
Great video. The question I have is why did Kim take her in the first place? This development was pretty predictable, especially in the eyes of a great coach.
She wanted to come to LSU. So LSU should have just turned down the #1 rated transfer player? Even if she isn't a great PG right now LSU can use all the depth they can get. Losing Smith and Poole are even bigger issues as LSU doesn't have the depth coming off the bench they would like to have. They often looked gassed.
I feel sometimes players try to confuse others and themselves that they can play a certain way out ego or confidence, but when you do other things so well why would you want your hands tied? Now granted this is her first year doing it so it makes up for good experience and preparation because I’m pretty sure she’ll have to play pg in the pros/wnba.
I was completely mistaken about her whole situation. I never saw that footage where she's talking about how she WANTS to play PG. I thought Mulkey just shoved her in there. That puts their whole situation in perspective for me. HVL wants to play PG, she's not good at it yet, Mulkey is trying to give her a chance to get good at it.
HV is the size of a PG but i guess in college she can play the scoring guard/shooting guard due to the level of talent, but she shoots 42% FG and 34% 3P, which ain't great, and in the W she'll be facing bigger guards if she is at the SG position, she better get real good at dishing at the Peeg!
I sincerely hope Hailey is smart enough NEVER to read the comments. Why the hell would anyone ever want to be a public figure. I feel for her. What a nightmare to be under this microscope just trying to be fearless and chase your dream. Don't wonder why people settle in life for less than their full potential. This comment section is exactly what trying to discover your full potential brings. I would be willing to bet everyone with an opinion has not got a fraction of her courage, and instead of being brave and daring to discover your own greatness, you'll just criticize her. How dare she reach so high. Fans like you are just looking to live vicariously through "winners" because you yourselves are cowards. As soon as your fav team, or fav player shows any weakness you rip them to shreds because you were only a fan to escape your own insecurity. Could you imagine being her, and reading this stuff? Don't wonder why most people quit on themselves. I'm a huge fan, Hailey! No matter the outcome, you are brave. It is the coolest thing to witness you boldly trying to unlock your greatest self. I see you! I admire you! Your courage is your greatest asset. Never stop being you!!!!!
Exactly this. Thank you for this comment. It’s people who never take risks and stay in their comfort zones that always say “the grass isn’t greener on the other side”. Like if you don’t try how’re you gonna know or grow as a person? Instead of being in awe of this young lady for challenging herself, people are gonna say anything to try and keep others small because they themselves are too scared to try new things.
Even brave people make stupid decisions and her joining LSU was a stupid one.. She doesn't fit. Never did. Never will. Definitely not at PG. Too slow on defense. Makes bonehead decisions at the wrong time and looks confused out on the court most of the game.
It was such a bad mistakes i kinda feel bad for her. Ik the move looked good on paper but not enough thought went into it. Trying to become a PG in ONE season in the SEC is crazy especially under Mulkey who has never been known for her guard play. She needs to stay for another year cause atp her draft stock has gone down and as a second round pick it’ll be an uphill battle for her to make a roster.
I believe HVL made a mistake in believing that she can play the point guard position period. She doesn't have the instincts or basketball IQ for the position. Allowing for her inexperience at the point position, she consistently makes low IQ decisions on the floor that have little to do with the position she plays and more to do with her desire to make the play herself. She dribbles way too much when she has opportunities to start a fast break or feed the post and she takes horrible angles on defense that create easy opportunities for her opponents. These things are not specific to the point guard position, they are just small details that winning players make when they prioritize team success over individual accomplishment.
Kiss&Tell I'm personally not happy for HVL failure at point guard, but I would rather her 25 point s as a shooting guard. She doesn't play good enough defense to be point and she doesn't make very good offensive decisions. The young lady we had last year was work friendly, she got the ball to open playmaker s and when it was her turn to shoot she took shoots that she was known for making. We don't mind you playing point guard when you do that!
I don’t blame her. This was imo her taking a crack at discovering if she could play at the next level. The answer looks to be a pretty definitive no at present. Kim is not really one that prepares her players to play at that level. Look at what happened to Alexis Morris. She can’t create her shot against elite defenders. And she can’t guard quick and athletic guards. I wonder how she feels about the move outside of basketball? Baton Rouge/Louisiana is not for everyone. Who were some of the other schools that were interested in Hailey?
You make great pts. HVL is a young woman who rolled the dice. Just not working out yet. Even if LSU goes pretty far, I'm sure this is not the experience she envisioned when she decided to transfer. Great question regarding what she'll do next. Option #1- Declare for the W? Would she even make a roster at this point? Option #2- Come back to LSU? Is she really enjoying the experience? Option #3- Transfer again? That wouldn't be the best look either. And to which school?
It's crazy how people call this team a super team when HVL never really played point, and Morrow was said to not have played top competition when she was at DePaul. It's crazy how people shit on this team when nobody thought they would do nothing last year. This the first year, they are all together, so I don't get all the criticism when it comes to LSU.
LSU can’t make you a better defensive player! That’s your effort that makes you a better player. She will end up over seas playing and then dissappear like all non stars do!
If you are not fast and athletic enough trying harder is not going to improve your defense. How do we know she’s not already trying as hard as she can.
It’s also not fair to compare her to Caitlin Clark. I think she’s always intentionally put on the weakest offensive player for good reason. If she fouls out Iowa is not a ranked team.
@@michaels.2331 Excusing any possible complications from her plantar fasciitis injury, there are lots of evidence of a lack of effort on defense. When HVL chooses to go several steps under every screen even when guarding elite shooters that is about effort. Her decision to drop several steps inside the 3 point line during defensive fast breaks rather than stopping the ball early to prevent transition 3s or mid range baskets, that's about effort. Not finding the body of the player you are defending to box out potential offensive rebounds is about effort. None of that relies on speed or size. HVL just appears not to have prioritized those areas enough to do those things because she has been used to being a star offensive player without those responsibilities.
Further, being a professional athlete is nearly impossible. She got to play division 1 basketball. She has amazing talent. Maybe she makes the WNBA as a shooter. Maybe her defense is too much of a liability.
Yeah a "mid-major" that's been in 5 straight elite 8's including 2 final 4s. Please don't act like she wasn't in a spotlight before LSU. That's a joke.
Fit means so much. So many people are into this whole Big3 and superstar team to were they think just throw in a bunch of stars together is all you need to do. Well there’s something to be said for having a good fit…a good blend of players who are comfortable with themselves and each other.
💯! As someone who played in college and Hs w Sue Bird in the mid 90s before she transferred to CTK… it is very easy to recognize two teammates who do not get along on the court. Angel and HVL do Not get along at all- among others as well. Also, HVL has never played the 1 at rhe college level. . Lots of reasoning and excuses went into her being okay with it at LSU (she’s smaller and in the WNBA SHE WILL ‘need’ to play the 1… all which is a bunch of crock) HUGE MISTAKE. KM isn’t even leaving her in deep in the game in close games- in I’d guess about half of the games. Way too many superstars in the starting 5… no one wants to take the backseat role. This team will not go deep in March
Even during the South Carolina game, you can hear Angel yell out “Shoot the ball Hailey” But yea i agree pretty much with everything you said it’s gonna be a major challenge for HVL at the next level. So do you even have LSU making it past the sweet 16? And as a gamecock fan, I’m interested in how far you have us going.
I’m a UConn fan lol. But you’re playing well. I’m not a Staley fan at all honestly BUT she is a great coach and has everyone on her team accepting their roles. SC goes to final 4,if not, chip game. Very likely to win it also. LSU- past sweet 16? Idk. I mean ish about all that. lol. I think it’ll depend on who shows up each game. It’s going to be very hit or miss with them IMO. (Same UConn. Not enough bigs and too inconsistent). What do you think about UConn? HVL is in a heap of trouble rn with her future.
@@GhostPepperMeg LSU and UCONN would actually be a good game right now. I think y’all can slide in the elite 8. I won’t put anything past Geno. I feel bad for Paige she’s been hurt for like 2 years right? I actually thought Paige would be doing the things Clark is doing when she committed. As for us i think what helps us is that we have a pretty deep rotation. I would like to see Pao Pao get more shots up. And it’s kind of upsetting that Cardoso isn’t a better finisher than what she is, that falls on coaching in my opinion.
First off, thanks for originally replaying. It’s always awesome to have a great college women’s bball convo. Until recently, the last few years, women’s college basketball was barely spoken about by mainstream sports media. I don’t think I thought Paige would be doing what Clark is, I don’t think I thought anyone would be. I do see potential issues there though also. What is your opinion on Clark and her future in the WNBA? Most coaches want a team offense and not so individualistic. What is you opinion on her? By NO MEANS do I think she’s going to do in the WNBA what she is doing at Iowa. Cardoso has been a bit weak in my opinion also. I do LOVE Poa Poa! Def would like to see her play more. I think ‘Last year’ as a night name is a bit much but who am I to say. I can’t even pronounce her first name and I know Last Tear is somewhat cultural. But I’d love to see her shoot more and just push the ball up all the time (which she already really does). Here’s my email if you’re interested in possibly exchanging numbers and talking woman’s hoops. I’m from Ny. Where you at?
@@GhostPepperMeg No problem, I love talking women college hoops. I’ve been a fan since Ivory latta/ Candace Parker back in the day. And your right i didn’t think Paige would be going crazy like Clark is but i thought she’d clearly be the best in the country right now. As far as Clark at the next level. I pretty much agree with what Swoopes said she’s not gonna dominate immediately. But i do think she’ll win rookie of the year and possibly make the all star team. Like Aliyah Boston did last year. But that individual rec ball type of play isn’t gonna work at the next level either, her ball usage is almost like Westbrook in OKC. Not a winning formula. But yea i definitely need your email, so we can exchange numbers. I’m from Jersey.
Karma. Last summer brought us the obnoxious Hailey Van Overrated Lith no contact “decision” tour. Then the ever so predictable landing at LSU. The reality is her quickness is nowhere near what it once was and she has always been more hype than substance. I am so glad she didn’t end up at Iowa where honestly she would have been no better than their fifth best guard. LSU bought a very high mileage used car thinking they were getting a shiny new Porsche. Now she’s their problem. Enjoy!
Hell, Iowa didn't need another PG, and I don't think coach Bluder would have been interested in a 4th year player who would be a 'project'. I did buy into the hype, shame on me, but in hindsight am glad this slow-motion train wreck didn't happen at Iowa. Molly Davis came right in, knew her role, and can run the 'O' effectively when CC is off the floor.
Exactly! Well put. In my observation, HVL would be behind Caitlin (obviously), but in addition to Caitlin I would much rather have Molly, Sydney, or Kate on the floor compared to HVL. All are playing better than her this season. Maybe one could argue that there would be certain situations where HVL could be used instead of Gabbie or Kylie, but that's about it. @@elmarko9051
Look like LSU is dumping their losses on hvl why do ppl expect LSU to be perfect cuz they r the champions 4or 5 losses doesn't mean they won't be the champs again just like S.C. perfect record doesn't mean they gonna be the champs this season.stop blaming the losses on hvl
Honestly..i dont think Hailey was this highly efficient shooting guard..she was a volume scorer..she dont need to shoot 20 times a game..Alexis didnt shoot the ball that much..she only took over games when she needed to..i think this will be the same for Hailey come tournament time..
I think she'll make the adjustments over time. She can play point guard as well as shooting guard. She bounce back and be the prolific scorer that she can be once she really gets comfortable with the way Coach Mulkey runs her program. It's still new to her. I believe she is looking ahead and seeing herself as a point guard in the wnba. But she has that beast mentality and she'll be fine. Just watch and see!
It is not a mistake, if she is able to correct it. This a great learning experience. she has to improve her strength as a basketball player but her command of the team.
Your NOT a point guard. I don't give a damn what you claim. Your a two guard NOT a point. LSU would be better if Williams runs point. Williams is the best skilled player on LSU!. Period!..
@@ThomasT-un6nc I hate to say this. But! She is a transfer with a little (Name) transferring to a virtually black team. She is white and they could not afford to allow her to feel disgruntled in her transition to LSU. (The world is watching how she is handled) they rotated things to find her a spot to be on the floor just so she can feel comfortable and wanted. Yes she can definitely play without a doubt. However, she is not a point guard or a floor general. I would put her at the 2 guard spot and make Williams the point guard. I think that would put everyone at their strengths.
@@GrAmHero i guess its the old “do you want to be a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond” i think Louisville was more her team…she’s looked very average since going to LSU
@@X-hoshaq-X Sorry, Louisville is not a small pond when it comes to basketball by any stretch of the imagination. I certainly don't think leaving has improved her draft stock at all. She would have been better off staying and playing with all the players that transferred into Louisville this year. She may get her Natty, but it may have killed whatever chance she had of making a WNBA team.
She got in the gym and worked throughout her high school days and that got her far, but she doesn't have a WNBA player's body for either 1 or 2. She must think she has a better chance of making the WNBA as a point guard which is right given her size, but she came to that conclusion a little late in the game.
HVL should have waited one more year to transfer. Louisville has a really good team this year with great chemistry and the ACC is a premiere Womens bb conference with five or six teams ranked. Curry comes off bench so maybe HVL should have waited. If she wanted a title, there are no guarantees in the tournament.
Listen for the wnba she is an undersized two guard. She is too small for a two guard in the wnba . She needs to learn the point guard position to play and be successful on the next level. She is a stone cold assassin. Very talented but she needs more time at the point. She needs another year. The point guard position is a difficult position to learn.
LSU needed offense and Haley provides that. She’s not an athletic point guard but having the ball in her hands is a good thing because she is a threat to shoot and can get off a shot on anyone. She showed in the Olympics that she has a lot of ball handling skills and is tough. I think she will do well at lsu and she needs to shoot more and let all those bigs rebound because they aren’t shooters
She's a scorer. Unfortunately she probably is too small and not quick enough to be a big time scorer in the WNBA. I'm sure she knows that's the perception, and so she thought she could improve her draft prospects by showing PG skills while playing for a high profile team, but it backfired because her PG skills aren't good enough.
Basketball doesn’t work that way. You can either do something or not do something. Was she not working hard at all these first 4 years. Of course not. She is who she is and the amount she can improve is very small
HVL has been an offensive threat throughout her college career, but she was never an efficient scorer. Her field goal percentages are mediocre. She scores because she is crafty and can get her shots against most opponents.
She still made the right choice by coming to LSU. The spotlight is makes your mistakes more apparent but if you want to be great that what you have to do. If you fail then you fail, but at least you tried to take your college career to the next level. LSU has history with CC since last year, so its just a good investment because she will be going directly against CC if they match up. Its a win win, if she succeeds it will be amazing and be a part of a back to back chip against CC. If she loses the media attention she will get will still help her career especially if she is matching up against CC.
For my opinion I think hvl is overrated she plays like she forgot how to play basketball she doesn't take many shots and when she does she miss most of them and lay up great players take over games and have a lot of confidence I rather have taking that point guard that plays with Virginia Tech😊
HVL looks for a team that will give her what she wants. She needs to work hard at learning how to give a team what they need. Team sports require a different mindset from individual sports. If she is determined, maybe she can become like Sue Bird, Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark.
As a pure PG, Amoore completely outclassed HVL in their one-on-one matchup in Nov. from a WNBA prospect perspective. Of course, LSU got the W (which is all that matters for this season).
This move was the dumbest move she could have made. Kim Mulkey doesn’t develop PGs to the league. She produces height. HVL should have stayed at Louisville and developed more. She came to a tough league thinking it would be cake considering the competition that moved on but has ran into a brick wall in this conference. She’s getting beat up on a consistent basis and it’s showing. Btw, SC fans don’t want her to fail. She failed herself by making this move and we knew before the season even started that this was not going to be a good look. Just a reminder, the gauntlet is only beginning for her after that “Smoke Tour” she promised.
She proved that she could play with other Allstars. She can be a point guard in the WNBA. Her defense improved. Career offensive average 14pts and 4 assists.
Did she? IMO - I think if anything she hurt her draft stock as she was exposed that can't really play point guard right now. As well she was blamed for all of LSUs problems. I think Kim Mulkey did not help in last game by putting her on Clark so her biggest weakness - defence could be exposed even further.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. So, while Wenatchee/Cashmere, Washington is a good 125 miles from Seattle, we know her up here. We all hear how Caitlin Clark will face racial hatred in the WNBA. How much of the unwelcomeness to Hailey by her LSU teammates, racially charged? Like Caitlin Clark, Hailey is good, White, pretty, clean cut, and I'm pretty sure Hailey is heterosexual. Oh, my ex-wife (wonderful woman, we just grew apart) is Black/Cherokee/White, and our daughter turns 11 in 2024, so I'm not hateful. My daughter gets racially taunted, as she's growing up in Bellevue, Washington (upscale suburb of Seattle), but that's a different story.
She made the mistake of transferring..could have been a star..now who knows probably no wnba in her future..she just doesn't fit..like 4th option on the team
HVL is a natural shooting guard although a little undersized for that position..."Transitioning" to a point guard from a natural shooting guard is a stretch...She would have been better positioned to have stayed at Louisville...Coach Jeff Walls is beginning to be proven right...
Let’s keep it a buck. HVL got caught ring chasing. She tried to pull a Lebron and join/form a “Superteam”. The only problem is the other players on the LSU team are too busy making rap music and doing photo shoots, instead of working on their game. Now she is going to hit the portal again, how much you want to bet she tires to go to UConn or USC next trying to chase a ring.
I don't think it's a massive mistake, you've got to take your shot I guess and she felt she would get it as a pg at LSU. Things don't always work out as planned though. Still, you have to question all the calculations here as you've pointed out, Louisville wasn't a shabby gig, getting to the elite 8 in the NCAA tourney, LSU imho seems to be having a few personality issues behind the doors, maybe she's one of them, I dunno. Honestly, my Hokies rolled over her and Louisville in the ACC tourny pretty easily, she never really seemed like a threat, I think her reputation is way out in front of her skill level. Don't get me wrong, she's pretty good but not superstar level, she ain't making it to the WNBA (getting paid more at LSU anyway no doubt.) she also looked a little...overweight at the beginning of the season? So yeah, accept reality and play out her career at Louisville and be loved might have been the better course. Well, one more year at LSU then, transferring isn't all that easy so who knows, but I bet Mulkey's recruiting pgs.
One ACC Tournament championship game is not a useful sample size. Your Hokies have been a doormat in the ACC for decades and weren't great shakes when they had to face Louisville on a regular basis back in the old Metro conference days. Kenny is a good coach who got lucky when he landed a generational talent in Kitney. Kenny parlayed that into the UK gig (good for him) and now Kitley will move on to the WNBA, taking Amoore with her and your Hokies will return to being an ACC doormat. Coach Walz turned Louisville Women's Basketball into a national powerhouse, only missing the NCAA tournament once in his 17 seasons, in his first year.
HVL is lsu 2nd best player they need to stop using her as a scapegoat not to mention she got plantar facistitis, is taking less shots and had some kinda hand injury..Morrow is the best they got #gogamecocks
Thought she would go to lsu and become a star lol she crumbled under the pressure fam. Think she needs to be humbled a bit then she can bounce back but its not gunna work the way she thinks
HVL lost my total respect when she said she did not go to Baylor because her style of play was not going to mesh with to that of NaLyssa Smith and Queen Egbo. Does that not scream "ball hog" and "I'm not feeding post players"?
HVL is a tremendous basketball player but in my opinion to shift to point guard her senior year was a mistake. I love her confidence but she is a special scorer and appears to be lost on the court right now at point guard.
This is where Mulkey should come in and be that voice of reason.
She is such a baller but LSU was not her place to be in my opinion
@@judgejurylw1026half the time she’s the one turning the ball over LSU bigs work for the ball
Yes, your comments are valid. The WNBA has an abundance of quality point guards…HVL is not ready to compete with them.
@ec5657- Agreed. HVL would even have a lot of trouble w/ lesser profile guards like Ari McDonald, DiJonae Carrington, Courtney Williams, Brittany Sykes, Jordan Canada, etc.
If HVL is on a 2 year plan under Mulkey she still has time but a tone of work is needed. If it’s a one year plan bad idea it’s not going to work.
Plus the PG is not a position you can learn over night...that takes years of development
like the famous words of AB she is a ding bat!
It's called an opportunity to grow. Get tf over it.
@@RandompageName Wdym get over it? I’m not losing sleep lol…
She’s to big to be a point guard and not quick enough at all who helped her make that decision they failed her
As a HVL fan its hard to watch her play with LSU. She looks like her freshman year. She should of stayed at Louisville and been the "woman".
Good evaluation!
@@SoBlue1- yep. I pretty much said the same thing you did. I was just trying to give the young lady a little grace with my commentary.
Looks like Louisville coach was trying to set you up for success.
@@TheJhtlagHe did know what time it was he hit the portal the minute they lost and sought out a pure point guard.
And you would be correct. She alone is to blame for squandering this season and squad with this decision.
HVL is a shooting guard not a point guard, the mistake is with the coach they need to make the adjustment!

She can't shoot...poor shooting percentage all her career
@@dtsunyou buggin'. She's not Caitlin Clark (who is), but she's been above average in all 3 shooting categories.

You're exactly right they could've got a point guard from somewhere else
She reached out to Mulkey and Mulkey took her. If she didn't want her she could have said no.
She is still learning; she want to improve her game to be the best you play with the best and against the best players!
Good Content. Im sure she's regretting it now. She's making herself look like a fool on the court and should've just stayed at Louisville.
She’s just gotta move the ball & for the love of god she needs to stop passing to Angel… Angel is our key rebounder & she needs to feed Angel any free balls that didn’t make it in the basket- Angel may have 2 on her but she can get up & get the rebound better than she can make the pass & basket
& HVL.
If you’re reading this, you didn’t make a mistake. You’re freaking 20. You ball hard, use this as fuel & prove em wrong 🫶🏻
You have it right. By the end of the year you may have that Chemistry Between Reese and Haley.
She sure as heck won’t be guarding Caitlin if they happen to meet up.
And thats how the cookie crumbles
Didn't know you had mutherf*cking psychic powers, Bro! What a disaster this was - made Kim Mulkey appear as if she couldn't coach...
Bro how did you know?
Leaving a good program to travel with the circus is her biggest mistake.
She won't play point in the pros, they'll move her back to shooter, if anything.
HVL can't guard a chair. Doesn't even attempt to play D. Any moron can stand around waving their hands around.
She just did the WNBA a favor.
Yikes...would have been a disaster pick
HVL is a perfect cultural fit at LSU. They are a brash team, loves to rub it in when they win. Always ready for the camera & making $$$
She doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb on the string.
The real question is will she transfer again? I def thinks she needs to find somewhere she play comfortably
I thought she's a senior
I never knew why she wanted to leave the team where she was a star. Yes I feel she made a big mistake and everything That Glitters Is Not Gold
HVL is a really good college player. She is not great. Not a great shooter or defender. Way too cocky for the game she has. Be humble!
GO AHEAD AND GIVE THE BEST GAME YOU CAN HAILEY VAN LITH. MAY GOD BLESS YOU 🙏
Well after seeing this I definitely see why the Louisville coach was hesitant to let her play point bc she definitely struggled with it at LSU. He was issuing her according to her strengths and playing PG (as we noticed this year) is definitely not one of them
Hayley is an awesome player just out of position …it was a great effort and may payoff somewhere …but clearly she struggles with the position
Playing for LSU just highlighted her flaws (which existed at Louisville)
Stanford or Iowa would have been better programs to fit her game
When she chose LSU, I said then that she would not be a good fit....
IOWA!? No possible way. Not sure about Stanford but she certainly wasn’t going to get to take some of Caitlin’s shots. Speaking strictly from a basketball perspective if she was going anywhere it needed to be a place where she could fire away at will
@@Purpledawg-d9s you don’t know basketball very well it seems
She was on a winning team…the real thing is she was looking for a bigger NIL
Mulkey wanted to relive her PG playing days through VanLith and it fail
And I truly believe Hailey will come out a stronger player for this experience.
And there it is!
Sometimes ring chasing doesnt work out.
Louisville is a Mid-Major? Aren’t they in the ACC?
Yea you are right- was trying to say stepping into big spot light but they are not mid major . Thx
HVL is not a star not sure why people keep saying she is.
She should have stayed at Louisville. She thought she was gonna win at natty at LSU. Nope
If she wanted to win a natty, she shoulda went to South Carolina or Iowa
@@cowboysdubs Iowa did not need any more guards. And I bet Dawn is glad she missed on HVL. Paopao turned out to be a better fit for the team.

💯! As someone who played in college and Hs w Sue Bird in the mid 90s before she transferred to CTK… it is very easy to recognize two teammates who do not get along on the court. Angel and HVL do Not get along at all- among others as well.
Also, HVL has never played the 1 at rhe college level. . Lots of reasoning and excuses went into her being okay with it at LSU (she’s smaller and in the WNBA SHE WILL ‘need’ to play the 1… all which is a bunch of crock)
HUGE MISTAKE.
Her move to LSU has really hurt her draft value!
Not a mistake. A decision that has not worked out the way she thought it might. We all miss 100% of the shots we do not take.
I just can't imagine what Kim looks like before she gets all dazzled up.... 😂
She's still not a point guard. She was pretty much setup at Louisville and could roll through her senior year.
Period!..
I hear u in that look what texas did with Madison booker
Seems like a coaching issue if she is playing in the wrong position.

@@GrAmHero compared to LSU in any sport it’s a small pond
She is really pretty 😍!!!
Creepy
How is it creepy to call a grown woman pretty she's a beautiful young lady just made some dum decisions on going to LSU
@@Lilquan2004 Thank you 😊
I agree, Hailey is a pretty young lady.
Haley van lith is causing the team to loose she need to be bench she can't play defense
She played good on the USA team. Paige was the point gaurd getting her the ball in the right spots though
Here after the Florida game…🥴😂😂😭 21 points!!! How about that!!!
Right lol all we need is chemistry to continue to build. One. Good night we are hard to beat. Just continue to build it.
Giving Una shout out in next video. Hope u don't mind
HVL looks for a team that will give her what she wants. She needs to work hard at learning how to give a team what they need. Team sports require a different mindset from individual sports. If she is determined, maybe she can become like Sue Bird, Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark.
Oooo she gave teams some bulletin board material
She had no choice but to leave the ACC; needed to get out of Georgia A’s shadow.
HVL will be fine..A lot of people dont give nothing time..this not the post season..She still has time as well as this team
The problem
Is not Haley. They need a bench. They need reserves. HvL is a baller. She isn’t a poor point guard but they still should be a better team.
She is a grad transfer though
HVL graduated in 3 yrs at Louisville. This is technically her senior season and she can opt to return next year for her covid 5th yr.
Yep U right but was trying to say if she gave Louisville 4 years & then left.
LSU has one PG coming in next yr, but she's the #96 ranked recruit. Mulkey will have to hope for a PG from the portal.
@@jjohnson3203 Yeah, at this point it probably would be a toss-up, HVL could still settle in well for one more year, get a transfer? same problems.
Don’t cry now, you thought you were headed to a Superteam but all they turned out to be was self promoting models and entertainers.
And if they had a decent point guard, they would have a shot
HVL lost my total respect when she said she did not go to Baylor because her style of play was not going to mesh with to that of NaLyssa Smith and Queen Egbo. Does that not scream "ball hog" and "I'm not feeding post players"?
