You gotta be careful when you talk about the final four and the championship simply because it is too early. There are other teams that have a say so in this like UCONN and NOTRE DANE and there's some other dark horse teams that haven't been mentioned. The question we have to ask as we follow women's college basketball is ( If Sara Strong went to SOUTH CAROLINA and played that game against UCLA would it had made a difference??)
Anyone noticed that Carolina has started every game ice cold? How about Carolina out scored UCLA in the 3rd & 4th quarters? How about this 3 of 5 starters offense are down but shooting more 3’s. South Carolina lady gamecocks has better players on the bench and 2 6’5 players played total of 7 minutes. If they can’t hit wide open shoots and not score a point for half of 1st qtr what you think is going to happen? The score was 2 to 0 after 3 minutes so they playing defense just not offense. Lastly UCLA was 5th ranked and now #1 ranked team.
I’m so happy she won’t be playing for Mulkey. Aaliyah deserves every dollar she’s asking for.
South Carolina coming back strong believe that
Derrick, I agree with you 💯. Tess, Milaysia, and Chloe should be on that court
Raven needs to sit. She can’t shoot. Tessa needs to start. She can shoot the lights out. Maddy needs to start. She’ll get better on D & she will shoot better with experience. Watkins needs to start. Feagin sits. Kitts is becoming liability with her bad shots & out of control play. Edwards needs to play more. Fuhwilley is good but not as good as she thinks she is & this coming from a Gamecock fan

South Carolina has plenty of size. They just need to play younger players & tougher. UCLA won’t shoot like that all the time
Wow amazing performance by whole UCLA Bruins women basketball team tonight. The rotation that Cori Closeand coach executed today was superb and amazing. There first win versus a number ranked one team and it came against South Carolina Gameocks .This definitely was a physical and clean game tonight But And they got their revenge in Los Angeles remembering Dawn Stanley knocked this team out of the sweet 16 a year ago. And tonight they showed they can defeat and beat the defending NCAA women champions tonight and they did it amazing fashion. . This is a team that work together and definitely win games and play the game of basketball efficiently. And goes individually and collectivity thorough out their big 10 conference games a And they continue to play phenomenal defensive and interrupt their opponents offensive amd defense from the opening minute to the final minutes of the game versus south Carolina.Due to UCLA defense and offense the Gamecocks has lost this game . And that was phenomenal from both ends of the floor from the UCLA Bruins and you have to give them credit for their defensive plays through out whole game getting stops and stealing and out rebounding the South Carolina Gamecoks . And the UCLA starters and the players that was phenomenal tonight .That just show the phenomenal growth and their Resilience. And their ability to dominate constantly has grown feom last season of this team from last season to now. And they all should be proud of Sunday perfomance. Because they won and they made history this Sunday. Player stats and UCLA leaders for this game Lauren Betts with 11 points 4 assists and 11 rebounds A Kiki rice with 11 points 1 rebound and three assists. Eliana with 13 points 3 rebounds and four assists. Jones with 15 points and two rebounds. Timea Gardiner 3 points and 3 rebounds. Angela Dugalic 5 points and 4 rebounds. Gabriella Jaquez 11 points and 3 rebounds. Janiah eight points and seven rebounds. The UCLA bruins has snapped the south Carolina 43 game winning streak.
They didn’t do as great a job as you think, Carolina did bad and they have started ice cold every game they played this year. Give UCLA flowers for winning but give credit to Carolina for losing because they earned it
2 years ago, the Gamecocks had both Aliyah Boston AND Kamilla Cardosa on the same team. They beat UCLA in the Sweet 16. Coach Cori learned from that loss. That's why Coach Cori always gives Coach Dawn mad props... UCLA just out gamecocked the Gamecocks... That's exactly why Coach Dawn said that it doesn't feel good when someone does to you, what you've been doing to others for years 😂
UCLA & USC teams not really fair. Just All-Star teams of former Pac-12 members. Aarnisalo is their big difference maker IMO. They had all the pieces before, but with nobody to effectively run the offense. Kiki looks so much more effective and at ease playing off ball. Having Gardiner & Barker in addition to their already stacked team is an embarrassment of riches. And they haven't even used First Team Pac-12 champion Leger-Walker.
UCLA has never won a championship in the history of women's NCAA BB and they WON'T win one again this year. This is the biggest victory in the history of UCLA's program so they should enjoy it, but it won't win them any titles come March. The win by UCLA on their home court was totally predictable and expected by those in the know...neither the victory nor the victory margin was surprising.
Your post would have been better if you had posted it before the game 😂
Thank you!👏
WTF is a "cheat code??" You called Camilla Cordoso South Carolina's "cheat code." How does having a player and utilizing a player having any fugging thing to do with "cheating???" Stupid commentary.
Oh boy. He clearly meant it figuratively. Cardoso was SC’s cheat code. She covered up a lot of mistakes the gamecocks made. If their three ball wasn’t falling, give it slot Kamilla, she’ll score, get fouled or both. Not every team has a 6’7 center. That’s what he meant with cheat code
Dallas Wings hates signing average sized players. Everyone on the roster is either 5'6 or 6'5
People tend focus on scoring and offensive stats. Go back and watch just 10 minutes and look at the Bruins' defensive effort. I'd challenge anyone to show me another team with a more suffocating defense in the last couple of years. The help defense was amazing...when a Bruin was beaten off the dribble, more often than not there was help to shut down any penetration. So when the offense isn't clicking...THAT'S the fallback. And realize the Bruin defense was playing a smothering defense against a team with a legendary head coach that has TEN McDonald's All-Americans.
All you saying Dawn will figure it out can't forget that she doesn't the pieces like in the past. No one on SC is a creative playmaker or is a true leader. Trying to run and gun against good teams doesn't work anymore. I see SC losing 3-4 games this year
In Dawn we trust
Neither one of these teams will win it all. UConn going all the way this Year.
My god they lost one game early in the season and all of a sudden it’s the end of the world
This win was needed, but the 2nd loss in two years is not to bad. They’ll most definitely come back for sure!
SC all day! The way they’re challenging themselves will help them make the right adjustments. I mean they have to face the #8 opponent on Thanksgiving in a couple days and two other ranked opponents before conference, I think top ten again. UCLA played Louisville who is so so and obviously SC with a week off leading into the SC game and they don’t face anyone else of significance until they get into conference. Nuff said.
Let’s see if Betts makes it through the whole season healthy. But ucla and Notre dame both. No excuses. They have to make the final four this year.
This ass kicking South Carolina just took from UCLA. It’s probably the best thing that could’ve happen to them…..They got humbled now they can just go back to work and be focused. They have a few new pieces on the team….They’re trying to Gel and find themselves, but they’ll be right there come March….Dawn Staley is a great coach And I would love to see a rematch with UCLA in the final four.
100-2 in 3 seasons...i know ppl like drama, but....relax. 3 final fours and 2 Nattys in 3 seasons. Make it make sense after game 6!
Here's my 10-cents worth. First and foremost, Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles (are the real-deal Holyfield!) But Notre Damn's Coach and her scouting team and assist coaches are the architects of this win over USC! Make no mistake about it-Coach Niele Ivey is a basketball strategist... The defense Notre Dame deployed against Juju and Kiki Iriafen was textbook... They force Juju left (which in effect slowed her down because she’s predominately a right-hand player) then trapped her forcing her to give up her dribble and turning her into a passer. As for defending Kiki Iriafen...Coach Ivey's game plan seem to be to make her speed up her game...play faster than she’s...and for that matter Juju Watkins were accustomed. If anybody's WNBA draft stock went up-it definitely was Oliva Miles's and Hannah Hidalgo (what's more impressive about Hidalgo's is that she's only 5-feet 6-inches!) Everybody like to make comparisons...therefore...here's mine-Hannah Hidalgo's game rebind’s me of Allen Iverson-yes-AI! they both are high energy players and enjoy playing ball-hawking defense. Having said that...let's not get is twisted...Juju is a baller; however, I just wish the media..."sports media pundits" would stop all this comparison nonsense and let Julu just play ball and develop into whatever WCB talent she becomes without all this comparison (aka unnecessary extra pressure) to Caitlyn Clark, and so forth. (From what I saw...Juju can be frustrated as was evident in this game and when USC played UConn last year in the Elite-8 NCAAW tournament. (In fact, I believe that's where Coach Ivey's picked up on how to defense Julu.) Nevertheless...Truth be told; there're WCBs with equal or if not better talent in WCB than Julu...as Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles just demonstrated you can also add in UConn’s Paige Bueckers; Texas’s Madison Booker; LSUs Flau’Jae Johnson...that I can think of off the top of my head. Nevertheless, it about team chemistry...and Notre Dame seem have their team figured out-while in my opinion USC has some work to do! It great getting 4/5-star transfer players on your roster...but as a former coach...it takes time for them to gel! As for Dawn Staley and SCs...a Dawn Staley coached team has never won a title without an elite power forward (A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston) or Center (Camilla Cardoso). In my humble opinion SC has too many 4-/5-star recruit therefore, there’s no chemistry because we don’t know which starting line-up she will play. But most important, her talented players aren’t give an opportunity to develop to their full potential because they get very limited game-time minutes...if they get in the game at all. And for you Coach Staley starch-supporters...other than A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston.... name another SC alum that has had a meaningful career in the WNBA... . That’s my two-cents worth! Peace out
With limited roster spots just being in the WNBA is meaningful. Nice try though.
Ty Harris and Allisha Gray are doing well. The chemistry is there without Kamilla last year they played better without her when she went to Brazil for the olmpics in the game against Unconn Arkansas and first match up against Tennessee and Kamilla got suspended last year for pushing Flajae they are cohesive against North Carolina and made it rained threes all night. It is the diseases of “ me” because of hero ball antics that lead to poor shot selection.
You started out promising 10 cents worth... Then by the end it fell to 2 cents worth 😉
Ty Harris,Alisha Gray, kamilla Cardoso, Zia Cook, Victaria Saxton, Armihere, Mykiah Herbert Harrigan just to name a few Gamecocks still on W rosters. One lost in Nov. And the haters take this opportunity to drag a team and coach. smh....See you in March!
@@wishfulthinking2371 Well we shall see what adjustments Coach Staley makes this Thanksgiving
I’m sitting here laughing! Dawn was studying UCLA and letting the girls try and figure it out! We know the drill! There is never a “me” mentality with our girls! Go Gamecock’s!!
Bruin fan here....and I agree with you. As a former teacher I can attest that you can't always immediately convince a student that your advice is the right approach. Sometimes you simply need to let them fail using their own approach. In time, it's veteran players who start towing the line. Staley is legendary...and she has TEN McDonald's All-Americans on the team right now! Players go to SC to get better credibility and visibility for a shot in the NBA. If it hasn't happened already, friends and family will start asking, "Why didn't you play?" or "Why didn't you get more time?". As a player it's pretty difficult defending why you're right over the coach. They'll see the light.
The biggest issue with south Caroline is their slow starts, and this game was a game where they couldn’t dig out
Yall act like tht was the championship. South Carolina can't go undefeated every year.😅😅😅😅😅
UCLA is a much better team this year than last. Lauren Betts has developed her game dramatically, Timea Gardiner adds height and a deadly three-point shot, Janiah Barker also adds height and pure athleticism, Angela Dugalic is sharper, Elina Aarnisalo is already a talented point guard, Kiki Rice shows more of an urgency to win, Gabrielle Jaquez is a great utility player, Londynn Jones can be on fire from three-point land, and the other players bring fresh energy when needed. Also, I think the new assistant coaches have been instrumental. Go Bruins!
I agree with your assessment. Have you heard any injury updates on Leger-Walker and "Z?" I'm assuming Amanda Muse is also injured, because she hasn't played in any recent games.
@VincentBaker-j1b Hi Bruin Vince! I think I heard that Leger-Walker was coming back in January. I don't know about the other two. Good to know another big UCLA women's basketball fan! 🐻🏀
@@pam_and_eggs Yeah. I remember you from last year. I hope Leger-Walker comes back sooner than January. I know "Z" was injured near the end of the Pepperdine game, but I haven't heard any update on her injury. I'm starting to wonder if maybe they're red-shirting Muse because I don't think she's played all year. In any case - Go Bruins!
BETTS was limited. If game was in CLA, different outcome. Home court, Loud crown familiarity and at home instead of traveling across time zones to the west coast , all contributed to UCLA win. While I congratulate them on a great win, lets face it no team is gonna shoot lights out on an opponents court with their fans. Cudos to Dawn for even tsking on this type of challenge.
It was a good win by the Bruins, but I doubt Staley is worried. I think the “prove it in March” or “prove it when the 3’s aren’t falling” is a fair statement regarding our team. We started last season hot but faltered down the stretch. I think this team is vastly better than last year’s. Huge improvements with Barker, Gardiner and Leger-Walker. And Aarnisalo at pg (sorry Kiki) makes rhe team legit. Then the bench is much better with Jaquez, Jones , Barker and whoever ends up there when CLW returns. I like our chances, but those going with USC have history on their sides. LONG way to go.
I need a bigger sample size from UCLA. Do they play this way and this well all the time, I know they are undefeated, so they’re obviously really good. But they looked like a super team out there. This game, and the ND/USC game seemed like such anomalies. The winners looked crazy good, and the losers looked really bad. Just uncharacteristic all around.
Nice reads by Betts---keep your head up, count jerseys and give up the ball when you're out-numbered. Gardiner is a match-up problem with her size and 3's. Close reminds me of Cheryl Reeve. And nice take on Rice, she looks like the glue. The other team that doesn't seem to have any holes is Oklahoma. On a side note, there are a LOT of games today and tomorrow involving ranked teams that aren't televised. SMH.
Spot on analysis. Dawn sat Fulwiley. Only played 3 minutes. This reminds of the UNC game (early season) last year where Dawn almost sacrificed a game to prove a point. I think this loss will be the same. Dawn wanted her team to feel this and get a taste of it. She's not concerned with never losing so much as to wining a national championship. I'm not taking anything away from UCLA. They dominated. But I think Dawn saw that early and thought, "Ok, i'm using this blowout as a teaching tool."
Definitely I’m sure she’s relieved also
Although I'm not a South Carolina fan, I don't understand why Staley kept Fulwiley out for the remainder of the game. The message was sent about taking the bad shot when she was taken out. Staley could have put her back in later in the game. It seems like the punishment was too much for the crime committed. Maybe South Carolina fans have seen more of this from Fulwiley than I have, and would agree with Staley's decision.
@ she did this last year when she wasn’t playing defense. She said before the game that the team really needed to work on shot selection so I think the benching came after two bad shots that she took. If you watch the interview before the game during practice, Staley went on and on about improving shot selection so I think this was certainly a message she was sending.
Tru dat. A national championship in the same year will trump any loss. Fortunately this matchup was early in the season for South Carolina.
@@pastorpersonality Yeah, you're right about Staley emphasizing better shot selection. It just came off as if it was a personal issue with Fulwiley, and Staley wanted to teach her a lesson. In any case, if it worked, Fulwiley may come out like a house on fire in the next game, and take her frustration out on the Gamecocks next opponent.
Coach Dawn will figure it out but will her team accept her guidance? With how new a lot of the players are to UCLA they look like they’ve all been playing together for years. Betts, being the star that she is, knows when to be unselfish and kick it out to her teammates. The question of what happens when the 3 isn’t falling is a great one. Coach close did have some great plays to open up the lanes. So I think that’s covered. This team looks like they could win it all.
PG - Fullwiley SG - Pao Pao SF - Hall/Johnson, flip a coin. PF - Kitts C - Watkins. Its really not that hard. just start them. that's it.
Until Fulwiley learns to stop playing hero ball she shouldn’t start as point. When she took those wild shots driving to the basket it not only was bad shot selection but poor court vision. There were open teammates she also needs to stop looking for the foul and get back on D.
UCLA won’t win, but if SC does not switch starters they won’t either
Jazzy Davidson made a mistake going to USC ucla has a well rounded team they can beat all kinds of ways Coach Corey is a great coach I figure ucla got two years to get a national championship especially when sienna Betts comes UCLA is big athletic skilled smart…I say LSU Notre Dame UConn UCLA final four
What a joke! 😁🤣
Bruin Vince here, so you know in advance that I'm obviously biased in favor of UCLA, but here goes. My biggest concern going into the season was our back court. I was practically crying when Kaitlyn Chen went to UConn. Now, I could care less about that. Our freshman, Aarnisalo has played great every game, is taller than Chen, and unlike Ju Ju Watkins, is a great facilitator. Kiki Rice is finally healthy, and as you saw against South Carolina, looks again like the lottery pick she will eventually become. Londyn Jones runs hot and cold from 3 point land, but the difference is(and this is important), Cori Close has learned to take her out of the game when she's not hitting the 3's. We already have the best group of bigs in the country, and when Ledger-Walker gets back from her injury, it will be lights out for any other team hoping to challenge us in the paint.
She can interchange a cold jones with a taller Gardiner now, so I am very pleased to see her change her strategy with Jones forcing shots but not hitting. Depth and that frosh pg are big reasons for optimism as Bruins. We didn’t even see Dudley, who I think will be a great contributor by season’s end. Coach’s daughter and plays like it.
@@bryanricks6864 You are correct. I really like the fact that Aarnisalo plays so well under pressure. I neglected to mention that our other freshmen have all impressed thus far, even with limited minutes. Cain, Dudley and Big "Z" portend a bright future for the Bruins. People talk about Notre Dame's back court of Hidalgo and Miles, who are both terrific, but if Aarnisalo continues to improve, Aarnisalo and Kiki Rice would give them a run for their money.
I’m a Texas fan so also biased but I felt coming into the season that SC was beatable by a few select teams (Texas, UConn, USC, USC & Notre Dame). For UCLA, it’s definitely the strength in the post. For Texas, it’s our front court. All told, this will be a fun and competitive season to watch. 😎🤘🏽
@@kimberlysingleton2205 Kimberley, for some reason Texas doesn't seem to get the national exposure that the other top 5 teams do. I would appreciate if you could share any current info on their best players.
I think Dawne Staley will eventually figure it out too though and they will end up in the Final Four while UCLA will come up short again.
dawn is such a good coach, i need to start watching her interviews more
They needed a big inside they missing cordosa this season
I’m a huge UCONN fan but I was taken aback by how good Betts and UCLA looked while South Carolina looks rusty and at times disorganized. I thought Barker, Jones and Betts were really good. While SC shooting was poor their perimeter D was also very poor. However, I still think ND is better and would easily knock off UCLA. I’m already worried abt UCONN vs ND. Hope we do knock them off on 12-12-2024.
ND would easily knock off UCLA? Seriously? Especially after seeing Kiki Rice and Elina Aarnisalo perform against S.C., the Bruin guards would match up well with Hidalgo and Miles. The battle of the bigs with ND would definitely be advantage to UCLA. I would pick UCLA to win that matchup.
@@VincentBaker-j1b: Not so fast, the Irish are coming!!!
I’ve never seen a team of bigs play the way UCLA players are. Dawn has never had a team of bigs ever. She has had A dominant big but not four bigs on the floor and shooting three’s. I don’t know who can beat UCLA. I don’t think you beat UCLA in the paint. What you need to beat UCLA is play your best three point game. Defend thier UCLA three point game…
Why does dawn let Raven play and make mistakes. Dawn is a hater, Milaysia is on the top of her list
Raven plays better defense, MiLaysia has better offense. Pick your poison
@@korank2982put raven on the bench.tessa johnson should be a starter.
@@derrickford9437Tessa is a defensive liability. While she scored UCLA was able to return fire because she kept losing her man. She should have been a mismatch nightmare for 5’4” London Jones at 6” but she left her open all night. She leaves Raven in because of Defense and court vision of finding open players. Raven does have an issue FG% issue this season but she’s a true point like a Chelsea Gray, pass first and only take the shot when you have to. She has more grace because Milaysia is having a problem with defense, court vision, and taking earlier shots into the shot clock when she doesn’t have to.
@wishfulthinking2371 They need to start m.fulwily an tessa johnson if they wanna win a championship.dawn makin bad decisions and she probably got a bag for losin tht game.
@ nope again Tessa can score but no defense. Whenever she scored UCLA responded because she loses her man, she a poor perimeter defender and Milaysia can’t play point until she stops playing hero ball and gets her team involved she drove in with open players on the perimeter twice and refused to kick the ball out because she played me ne me ball.
I'm going with Dawn. She will figure this team out and put on the court the best lineup.
In the past Dawn's teams were all about possessing biggest, tallest, and most aggressive girls on the court and using them to shove bully underneath the basket. Now that she doesn't have that for the first year in awhile without Cardosco, Wilson, Boston, etc, she is exposed and will have to think of something quick. Several of these big girls have chosen to go to different teams instead of her and she is at a loss. SC has looked like trash in all their games this season, winning through a mixture of luck, and nerves and intimidation on behalf of their opponents.
@@JohnJohn-fe6ycThey’re playing a tough schedule that’s why they look normal at times. I know that’s unusual for opposing fans. The challenging schedule will help them settle into their new normal just fine. That’s why they do that.
@@Bishop56100 they havent played a single tough team this year except UCLA and they got their asses beat. Wtf are you talking about? SC has one of the easiest schedules out there
Yeah bro they look really tough out there playing such heavy hitters like "wofford", East carolina, and Coppin State. LOL get the helll out of here with that BS!
@@JohnJohn-fe6yc WTF are you talking about? There is a difference between a D1 team and a team that isn’t. Who has a tougher schedule? SC has one of the toughest schedules annually especially when teams aren’t dodging. Who has a tougher schedule? Hell UCLA only played a so so Louisville team and SC and that’s it heading into conference. You’re showing how much you aren’t paying attention right now. Nice try though.
Dawn will figure it out
SC will definitely figure it out ! SC in March for sure! Gamecocks4Life
Kitts has been great so far this season, but in this game she looked like child playing agaist grown ups. It was kind of sad and funny at the same time. Hopefully she'll bounce back
It was hard to watch. She was getting rebounds but those bigs were snatching balls right out her hands.
You don’t piss me off, I just think you’re a clown. Unsubbed
L$U is made of money pay whatever she wants better us pay than UT or SC or any other Chip competitors she will get it from somebody might as well be L$U very short sighted on KIM part.
ND dismantled them on their home court. So much talent in the women's game now.
