📈📚 As always, if you're a beginner to the Stock Market in Canada and you're looking for a step-by-step blueprint on how to get started... Find out more about our Investing Academy here - bit.ly/theinvestingacademy In this video we'll take a DEEP DIVE into Canada's largest Telecom company. Thank you to Passiv for sponsoring today's video - passiv.com?ref=RGAMTXSUAM
Great job Marc - I worked at BCE for 12 years selling services - BCE is a money making machine - telecom is strategic infrastructure and the Canadian government will never let it fail. The revenue model is great and the dividend is steady. This belongs in everyone’s portfolio - I’ve been a BCE shareholder since 2008
as a suggestion: it would be cool if your next stock battle involves 2 companies within the same sector. TD vs RBC, Telus vs Bell, etc. amazing content by the way!
@@beaviswealth Actually I'd really enjoy seeing that comparison as well. I believe I already know the answer - Bell for slightly higher dividends, Telus for likely (possible) higher stock appreciation, yet steady reasonably high div. growth rates. I would take either bank as well - TD and RY. High buy in, but reliable total returns.
Watching it again, 2 years later, I have to express my gratitude to you. One single piece of the entire video made me run to my computer and sell my entire position (1200 shares). Gender equality on board of directors. I am not against women by any means. But I want the best regardless of gender. If the board is 100% women, but they were selected on merit I don't have a problem with it. But selection based on gender is a total nonsense. Today BCE share price tanked below 45 dol. Thank you again for this little piece of information. I used proceeds to buy CNQ. I did well.
Great dive into Bell. Used to hold BCE for the stability and dividend income. Unfortunately I sold for a downpayment on a property and only have ETFs nowadays.
Really love the deep dives. I commented on the first one you did about how you should do more, you replied, and I am so glad you are doing this for us! TD, BCE - these are fantastic choices. Thank you so much for doing these videos, I really appreciate them!
Thanks Marc for the nice Deep Dive series. Helpful for retail investors who are more serious than simply asking for a stock recommendation or a target price. Just want to add another historic piece on the potential risk of BCE: Back in early 2000’s BCE spun off its stake of a little obscure minnow company called Nortel to its shareholders. To many investors (yours truly included), that was the best thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately, a lot of investors (yours truly included) ended up with nothing but burnt toast. And I certainly remember the Halloween massacre of income trusts, but I think it was an necessary move by the government back then. Otherwise, the TSX today would be filled with nothing but tickers ending in .UN.
Hi. Thanks for such a great comment. I did have a little blurb about Nortel in the original recording, but I trimmed a bit out because it was going longer than I had planned. Anyone who was investing during those times will never forget the Nortel experience. You weren't alone in the wreckage, that's for sure. And, I 100% agree the tax changes were necessary... I just didn't like the way it was rolled out. Actually, it wasn't rolled out at all, it was slammed out. That's my only beef with the way it was handled. - Marc
Yes, Marc, 2006 was a shocker to me as well. Sleepless nights and restlessness for months as one worked their way through how to re-balance to find enough income. I had taken very early retirement on 2005 in mid 40's age, and thought in 2005 I had a safe amount with dividends coming in. Then, the 2008-09 financial crisis hit after that! Whoosh! What I did to cope was to find a few other light sources of income, return to deeper frugal living practices, no holidays either. Got into learning about strategic trading on line and with a small investing keen wise friend and grew my portfolio trading online. In the end, it definitely paid off. Became a DIY'er carpenter and really put a lot of renovation work into the family homestead. When stuff happens you have a choice to look at how to change and end up growing in ways you might not have thought of before. Stay safe as covid restrictions are lifted and thanks for these deep dives. I thoroughly enjoy them. 👍💯🇨🇦🍁
Thanks for the deep dive, Marc - love the content as always. When you started discussing PEG, I was hoping you'd compare it to the PEG of other competitors in the sector, namely Rogers and Telus. Maybe worth considering for future videos!
Hi Greg. Thanks for your suggestion... I'm pretty sure I did compare to the 'sector', (or did I miss that?), but ya, I could carve out specific competitors as highlights.... I'll consider that for future videos. - Marc
@@beaviswealth I checked back before commenting and yes, you did compare it to the sector average. This is just me being lazy, but I think it'd be nice to call out a couple of the largest competitors as a comparison. I appreciate the reply and hope you continue producing great content like this for years to come!
There was a trade off in the tax changes with respect to income trusts - we got income splitting on pension income. More many of us this was a real tax win!
Thanks. I would love do do a Telus video too, yes. It will be a bit down the road because I'm kind of rotating through sectors, but it will be on the list! - Marc
Hey please do reply, can a international student legally do CFD and forex using questrade ?and what are the taxes if they are allowed to do? Thanks in advance
I think the high interest rates will have an impact on their profits as they have high debt. Do you think the dividend is sustainable then ? The payout ratio is already high
It would be interesting to learn how their wireline revenue is split between POTS (plain old telephone service) and more modern services (wired internet, etc). Falling POTS revenue must be a significant risk, but if it is a small fraction then it wouldn't matter as much.
Hi James. Thanks for your comment. And... I just whipped up a look at ENB... ruclips.net/video/w70G10a6GIY/видео.html Ok.. I didn't just whip it up, but I actually posted it not long ago. Similar to this video. Hope you enjoy. - Marc
Easily digestible and approachable breakdown, such a great deep dive. I was told BCE had a special deal with the government of Canada as an exclusive provider for their internet. That may have just been some fluff locker room I heard from someone. Either way solid company in my eyes. Would love to hear about rican or a utility company like Northland Power or Algonquin power!
I would love a video on BNS. Because of how their growth will be affected investing in these areas in south america with growth room. And Tangerine doing well
Este tipo de análisis vale oro, para siempre ver algo nuevo del mercado, gracias por tu trabajo Marc "this kind of analysis worth gold (it's an expresion in Spanish), for always see something new on the market, thanks for your work Marc"
Great video Marc, I have been a long time shareholder of BCE and love the company. It was nice to hear your thoughts and how you look at this investment.
BCE is one of those dividend aristocrat. I am a long-term hold and it did reach 52week high recently. During 2009 financial meltdown, OTPP wanted to buy BCE for $42 billion but the deal fell apart with the crisis. I think it was a good outcome and took BCE couple of years to recover. Unlike Sears, BCE DB pension is fully insured by a third party insurance.
Hello! Does anyone know where you can find those charts for free cash flow to dividend payments? There are some stocks I wrote off after seeing a high payout ratio. Would like to see their charts. Thank you!
TSN is distinctly NOT Canada’s leading sports programmer. Rodgers’ SportsNet has overwhelmed TSN over the last ~20 years. TSN retains CFL & some Curling rights and that’s about it. As far as this video goes, that is not hugely significant in and of itself but if there is one inaccuracy…. a good advertisement for doing one’s own research ;-)
Maybe some minor things to watch for with BCE. I expect their ExpressVu satellite service is hemorrhaging money. They consistently increase it's price as they lose more customers to cable cutting and alternatives just like Dish Network in the US. As well StarLink is embarrassingly better than any rural wireless speeds Bell can currently offer including data caps and pricing. While they may do great with 5G - they certainly have ceased to be innovators.
I’m a former ExpressVu customer after being an early adopter and agree with some of your thesis, but I also think that Bell (at least where I live) is at the forefront of fiber internet deployment. As a BCE shareholder I’m confident they will continue to redirect their business to reflect current market trends.
This is a video to help with due diligence. It's not supposed to tell you if you should buy it or not... It's supposed to tell you about the company. I don't even know you... how could I recommend whether you buy it or not? - Marc
