I wish you guys were around 5 years ago when I was 22 and entering the stock market. You cover so many of the early mistakes I've made.
Congratulations on 100k sub. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the advice!
I was about to sell my stocks back in December (29th) and withheld instead. Thank goodness !
Thanks man! Great info as always
Thanks, knowing about the superficial loss (30 day rule) really helps.
There's actually a lot of misunderstanding about this rule. Your losses aren't just completely void. If you incurred losses on the initial buy + sell, and you rebuy within the 30 day time frame those losses are just rolled over to whenever you sell your second buy. You simply can't claim those losses until the shares are sold again.
-Guess I should add the only time you really need to worry is when you try to sell something.. Lets say on December 20th, 2020 and then rebuy in January 2021 within the 30 day time frame. Your losses from December 20th wouldn't be applicable for your 2021 tax return, but will be rolled over to whenever you decide to sell that second buy.
Great video - Thanks very much it made things very clear especially with the US dividends into your TFSA!
Thank you Brandon for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with us. Much appreciate it
My pleasure!

Glad it helped Luiz.
Thank You Brandon for this easy -to-follow synopsis of Canadian taxes regarding investments. It is very well laid out and clearly explained in an easy to understand and grammatically correct language (which seems rare these days on RUclips). I will make sure my teenage boys watch your videos in the next couple of years as they start their own investing journey.
Thanks Yannick. Appreciate the comments! Best of luck with the boys!
One quick additional insight for anyone that holds an actively managed fund such a mutual fund, because they are often readjusting positions often, capital gains can be passed down to the unit holder even though you didn't sell any of your units. Just something to be aware of. They may also distribute something called return of capital which is not taxable but can impact your tax basis which could increase capital gains when you decide to sell your units.
LETS GO 100k I’m proud of you Brandon
JV's 3's was the first thing I thought of 😂

Excellent video !!!
Yes, this was a very important topic! AS a DIY...practical!
Thx! high quality video
Thank you so much!
Amazing stuff!
best video on taxable accounts!
Well done Bud!
Awesome video Brandon.
I also understand you can’t use a loss if you’ve bought, then sold the shares (at a loss) within 30 days.
This becomes a ‘superficial loss’. I learnt the hard way on this one when I sold out of a position when it was dropping within 2 weeks of buying it.
Thanks again for the video!
Really?
Brandon 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. This was such a valuable video 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
