    Awesome video Brandon! As an intermediate investor this is exactly what I wanted to see when I clicked that poll. I really liked the end of the video where you talked about manipulating your portfolio weightings for a time period. I’ve never really adjusted my weightings as I have been a buy and hold person but you opened my eyes on how I really want to be running my portfolio right now. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    I knew what Beta was but it never occurred to me, for some reason, to look at the average Beta of my portfolio...I was surprised when my average Beta is actually around 1.1 😂Thanks for the video! I now have more proof I'm a bit too conservative 😅

    • @Freedomthirtyfiveblog
      @Freedomthirtyfiveblog 2 года назад +2

      1.1 isn't bad, lol. What would your ideal portfolio Beta be?

    • @TheMooingMouse
      @TheMooingMouse 2 года назад +2

      @@Freedomthirtyfiveblog I'm not actually certain what my goal Beta would be, but definitely higher than 1.1 and maybe lower than 1.5. Like I want enough volatility to potentially perform better than the index but not so much I might lose an arm and a leg and limit my compounding haha

    As always, thanks for the video.
    Some feedback from your poll at the beginning of the video: since the majority of your viewers seem to be in the intermediate range of knowledge, it may be interesting to not only describe the high level view of such metric, but also explain how it is calculated (in math) and give examples so that we can calculate it for our own portfolios. I bet you don't always have a ton of time to dive into the mathematical details but something to keep in mind for the future maybe? :)
    Cheers!

    Great video Brandon. I use Beta all the time. Combined with Alpha, the two can be a powerful duo to improve investment performance.
    Beta is also really good for getting a general sense of a stock's IV, which I find useful for making consistent options income. 🙂

    I wasn't sure what Beta was but as soon as you said I had to check all of my holdings.
    My portfolio averages around 1, are the growth etfs with an N/A a good offset to the safe collection or is there a better option for growth. Risk doesn't scare me.

  • @engelzman

    Never used beta before. I like the idea of ensuring your portfolio has both higher and lower beta stocks to balance out through both bull and bear markets.
    I don’t agree so much on changing weighting of beta based on what the market is doing. What you’re suggesting seems very close to trying to time the market, just in a less severe way than fully cashing out of positions. I feel it’s safer and easier just to hold long through all sorts of markets.

    I'm not sure how I'd calculate the beta of my portfolio but it's definitely something I've taken into account when looking into new stocks I don't know. Got me curious to check and I see a lot of what I own had a beta of less than one. And while I know I haven't seen it often, one thing you didn't mentioned (and I have wondered about) is negative beta and how that even works. Also, do ETFs not have a beta because of them being a basket of stocks?

  • @kelleyhaldorson209

    Great Video! I do look at beta and am aware of it as to what to expect when I buy a stock about how much its gonna move around in price. Its also part of my DCF calculator. Really liked your simple explanation and diagrams. It really made this concept easier to understand and now I could actually properly explain this metric to someone else. Thanks for your training this was perfect. I'm curious to know what my beta actually is now...I know i don't ever fall as fast as the market and I never climb as high either so I'm gonna bet its at about a .7? I'm kinda a conservative fellow.

    Hey, any reason why some companies have no beta?
    I'm also wondering about TTCF's beta of 0.21. This seems low.

    What would be the best way to calculate average beta of total portfolio - I'm assuming using weighted average- stock % of my portfolio x Beta then adding all this up? And follow up question.. would this be a good measure of risk? Or is beta measure a bit different then how you would traditionally view risk

  • @turbofanlover
    @turbofanlover 2 года назад

    Good vid, dude. I tend to have a nice mix. Low beta for the "investment" portion of my portfolio...higher beta for my much shorter term holdings. And I also tend to have a nice bit of cash sitting on the sideline...just in case. ;)

    Is there a Master Beta sorry had to.

  • @roberttaylor3594
    @roberttaylor3594 2 года назад

    Does beta deviate from 1 equally on the upside and downside? Ie: two stocks with a beta of 2. But stock A fluctuates between -0.5 and +1.5. While stock B fluctuates between -1.5 and +0.5? Both with a beta of 2?
    I know it’s more complicated than that, but you get my drift? Stocks could be more volatile on the up or downside, but have the same Beta?
    I look at it, but I care more about the debt ratio, return on investment, if dividends are increasing, not so much how volatile the stock is.
