I gave up a job that I hated which had 'excellent benefits and career progression opportunities'. I'm now doing a poorly paid job that I love. I'll never be wealthy, but I have a roof over my head and food on the table - and I no longer come home from work each night already dreading having to go back in to work tomorrow!
Just curious: what’s the lower paying job you took that you love? 😁
@@carrie5813 I'm a gardener!
Wow. What was your job? Are you willing to share?
Great video Joshua. So very true. We've lived poor & we've lived a little better off. We've stayed in the same 768 sq ft home through it all. It actually stresses me to think of living in a bigger home. Sure, there are things I like changed about our 1 bathroom, tiny kitchen, 3 bedroom home, but I wouldn't want it any other way. We're coming up on 25 yrs here & I'm happy it's pd off. 😊
I wasn’t unhappy with my job, but wanted to retire. However, I was worried about living on a significantly lower income. I discovered that you can live well on less money. I hardly eat out anymore because I have the time to cook at home. I spend less on clothing and do my own manicures & pedicures. I also downsized my house and used some of the profit from the sale of the larger house to pay off the car. I’ve lived 2 years on the lower income and don’t feel like I’m giving up anything.
This is inspirational, as I hope to do the same thing, soon.
I needed that today so thank you for this brilliant message 😊
Thank you! I have been talking about this a lot with my husband lately. He wanted to buy a farmhouse with a piece of land as soon as we could afford it. But we both realized that it will cost us an insane amount of mortgage (and maintenance!), and we will have to make sure to work hard, earn a ton of money, to be able to afford it. In the Netherlands, those houses (woonboerderij) are pretty costly. Now, we'd rather stay in our current home, and live below our means, so we can save money and not have the pressure of working ourselves to death just for a house.
This is also similar to keeping up with the Jones'. I dont like the Jones', and I dont want to be like them.
Thank you for sharing this wisdom! I needed the clear perspective you so eloquently give here. Deeply grateful!!
I work 2 jobs today and the money is great but the stress is insane. It was just to pay off my credit cards, home equity line of credit and my wife’s medical bills last year. Well the goal has been met, now I’m so used to the extra money it’s hard to step away. However the pressure is intense but the lure of the money is strong.
Sometimes, the cost of what we buy isn't just financial. Maybe look at the things you are using that extra money for and ask yourself if they are worth the stress you are paying to have them?
Such a perceptive talk. Thankyou. It's so easy to become trapped by our lifestyle and possessions.
What's the success if you're enslaved? There's one true success - being who you are and being free of hindrance.
I've never actually heard of 'golden handcuffs' but that's definitely what I used to have. Beyond thankful for stepping back and changing things up (thank goodness for Minimalism)
That’s evil society in the world. Don’t be Conformed to this world and its wicked ways. Money has way too much value to it , the LOVE of Money is the root Of all evil.🙏🏻
This is me right now. Job that drains me and I dread going to daily. I can't leave because of the income. Trying to find a way out but as a single mom with a high needs kid I need the job security and income. We don't live super extravagant, mostly just vacations. I also bought a house that is modest in my town but I should have got something smaller and cheaper. It's hard though because my brother is now living with me and relying on having a place to live for free. I'm hoping one day I can break free and move somewhere cheaper.
One of my weekend treats is Joshua's new video ❤❤
Excellent video today. Thank you for sharing this message. ❤
Very good insight, thank you for sharing.
Joshua, thank you for another thought-provoking and quality video. Your insight helps me feel like I'm not alone.
This is my problem now and I found your video…
Left my job because my career ( a florist) was too hard on my body and hands etc , I have both RA and OA and dont take any meds , never liked the side effects, and now I can’t afford, I should have stayed at my last job , no matter what though , I left at 60 , it was a management position with good pay and great benefits, I haven’t worked in a year now , I know for sure I am getting discriminated against for my age , 100% sure , and I am scared , my SSI at a minimum next year will be under a thousand a month, if something happens to my husband I will be homeless for sure, as I don’t drive or own a car to live in , I’d sell the little town house I have now
P.s. , I got asked to interview next week for floral design job ….wish me luck !!!!!
Wow. Way to check your perspective. So glad I found your channel.
This video is just WOW!!!!! A perfect speech! So well explained...
I just finished posting (on Linked In) a summary of the chapter Distraction of Money in his book, Things That Matter. Love this expansion on that chapter. It’s about what amount of money is enough to be happy? It was a great chapter in a fantastic book.
We are still simplifying our lives after downsizing our home and lifestyle in retirement. Loving it!
Wow, that’s a cool. I’d love to read it.
Joshua I’ve sent you a Linked In invite so I can send you the post directly.
What are the handcuffs made of when you strongly dislike your job, you’re underpaid and company will not give you a raise, they also won’t fire you for anything less than something that’ll disqualify you for employment anyway, plus nowhere else is hiring, and you’re too tired from being overworked to work on starting your own business?
I know the point of this video is that you don't need all of those extras, but you can also enjoy "luxuries" in different, creative ways, too. I have a 2011 Lexus that was so cheap I was able to buy it in cash. I had to really look for a long time for it, though. It's a luxury vehicle, but it doesn't have to be brand new. It has all the perks I want. Two days ago, I thrifted a $400 Kate Spade handbag for $9.50. I take international trips about twice a year, but my tickets are always based on the cheapest options to countries I haven't been. Once I'm there I'll stay in hostels (you can find nice ones!) Airbnbs, or even find places to volunteer in exchange for free lodging, which is great for getting to know new skills and culture. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. :)
Sometimes those handcuffs have diamonds 💎 on them too!😁 and thus, we sometimes get trapped.
Good point.
Great advice and video ❤
Definitely food for thought. Wise words as always. X
This is a fantastic video. Definitely made me think.
Thank you ❤️
👍👍👍❤️
Thank you. I love how you tell us the truth. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this very interesting video!
Wow!!
It is so true.🤯
A $20 purse is like throwing $ downthe drain unless you find something of quality on ebay or other thrift type situation. Like the time I got a vintage Coach purse for $20 at Goodwill. I still have it.
Great things to think about.
Wow ! This is a n eye opener 😮for sure!
🇦🇺 Hello Joshua! 👋
Excellent!!!
More like gilded cage for me, except it’s toxic fam and the fam biz. Anyone ever heard of Laban? Yeah. That’s what I’m dealing with now. I can imagine another way, I’m just not sure how to get there yet. Some cases tho (like mine) it’s more like being trapped in a catch 22 double bind or a tangled up spider web (with really grabby and clawy control freaks who refuse to ever let go. Who put traps and hurdles and road blocks up at every turn. You can have anything you want….except for your freedom, that is). As it goes now tho, shyster like (attempted) bribes seem to be the order of the day.
Only AFTER you make some changes in your life you will see if they were good or bad. Hindsight is 20 - 20.
So true…❤️
Excellent video! The details on the rise of each jean is especially helpful.
Really nice video! i was wondering if i could help you edit your videos and make them more engaging as well as it will save your time.
I think they are very engaging just as they are.
Thank you!
I always look up your videos when it comes to financial lessons. You are such a blessing to this community. People are financially struggling to put food on the table, yet no change is made. I appreciate Sharon Fogg alots, you’ve helped my family with your advice! Imagine investing $1,500 and receiving $9,300 in 3days 🇺🇸
I think I missed the recommended action in this video. Was this just a video telling me I can be addicted to my lifestyle and still be poor? I expected a little more
