      When you sign a quick claim deed you are signing your house over. Can't really blame the judge for upholding the law. If you sign your car over it no longer belongs to you. I always thought that was a no brainer.

      Because she signed over the house and it’s her word against his. The scammer held the deed with his name on it so that’s what the judge will go by. This happens a lot.

      @@carolperdue7534 Not true. If a judge knows the exchange was unlawful, he is obligated not to put his stamp of approval on it. The judge can also have the scammer investigated and withhold judgment until the scam is completely fleshed out. There are other avenues he could've legally traveled down.

    In Oklahoma, to get a quit claim deed.. BOTH parties have to be at the courthouse together with ID to sign! Period! It should be done NO other way!

      Yep, I live in very small town Oklahoma, Should be that way everywhere, Hell when we signed up for the double homestead exemption, we didn't do it via net, we went to the courthouse to the tax assessor's office.

    Didn't they say she was recently widowed? as a widowed person myself I can honestly say you don't think clearly that first year, we often don't think clearly the second year either. It's a vulnerable time .That's why you are discouraged from making big financial decisions during that time. It also sounds like she was stressed out financially and someone took advantage of her situation. My heart goes out to her. I hope her friends and family step up to get her legal help to guide her through this.

      You do understand what a quitclaim deed is, right? It's like a pinkslip for your car......it transfers ownership. Read whatever you sign, BEFORE you sign it. If you don't understand the document, consult a lawyer.

When listening to this woman story, I would indeed start with that family member, because I believe they were part of the process in stetting her up. Furthermore, I hope that she is able to receive the help in getting an attorney. People are so wicked, and homeowners must be very careful when signing documents . My heart goes out to out to her.

      How do you know that the family member wasn't just genuinely trying to help. There are lots of people that have trouble understanding legal terms, and desperate to help their family member.
      What does it benefit them if she lost her house? It only benefits the company that stole it.
      I think the family member and her were at such a loss of who to turn to, and took a chance on trusting someone.
      The ones that were manipulative will be sorry when they stand before God on judgement day.

      Honestly we live in a fallen world. We have to do the best we can. Ive had situations not a house issue but contacted the attorney general. They forward the information to the organization you have an issue with but it never goes anywhere. These companies are not here to help us as they claim.     The state attorney general should prosecute the scammer for receiving property under false pretenses. She should also file a complaint with the U.S. Dept of Justice against the scamner for violation of the Federal anti-racketeering act. Either way the judge had no right to force her out of the house if she never received any money.

    She was left to provide for herself and her grandchildren which is part of the problem. Her children should be ashamed they left their children to her to raise.
    Being a school teacher and bus driver should generate enough income to support herself if she didn’t have to support her worthless grown kids. I hope someone is able to help her.

      Lots of people unfortunately are in that situation. I’m a widow and thankfully I was thinking ahead and made sure we had enough insurance to pay off the house and all our debt with money left over. I wanted to make sure whichever one of us survived wouldn’t have a house payment. I know people who have lost their house after their spouse died. My advice to everyone is get enough insurance to pay off your house.

      When I read stories like this , I mind always wonders - where are all the people who claim to be looking out for people of color ? Where’s Jessie Jackson , Al Sharpton , Ben Crump , BLM , and all the other people who run in front of the cameras. Years ago I had a buddy who was born and raised in a poor neighborhood in Alabama and he told me how his family was disgusted by the media people like them who are only on the lookout for themselves. If the cameras were there suddenly - they would be marching and protesting and giving press conferences. But since there’s no media coverage there’s nothing that can be gained by them, they follow the $$$ . Can someone refer her to a lawyer who does pro bono work-

    As Black people, we have to begin to have a lawyer/attorney to review/look over any documents involving our houses (for refinancing, cash-out, and when selling) BEFORE we finalize and sign them. We just don't have enough knowledge in this regard ... and there are too many people that are trying to scheme, deceive and manipulate us out of the rightful ownership of our homes. Even if we can't afford it...this is something that we have to start coming up with the money to pay for...this is for our protection.
    I pray for this lady that she will get the legal help that she needs in order to get her home back.😢🙏🏽 May God bless her and strengthen her.

      My mother is white and signed her home over to the government when she needed food stamps in her 80’s! She had to get out and move to an assisted living not long after.
