Love the modified pedal to send a tone to the console to gate the guitar for mute tuning. Nice job. Will have to build one for my so the artist can mute for tuning.
I'm really attracted to this kind of hard work and expertise. Much as the general public is so fond the main artists, my greatest focus and respect goes to the sound design engineering team. Much Love
I'm wondering - if at some point during the set, let's say between songs, Ed strums his guitar and nothing comes out but his vocals are still fine - in the heat of the moment, what's the decision making process that would lead you to hit the 'backup' option and route everything through the backup rack - given that he could have simply pressed the wrong button on his stomp box?
Silence from the guitar isn't what they're talking about when they mention switching between the racks. The back up option is there just incase the laptop crashes, overheats, drops out, CPU gets overloaded, etc. It could manifest as cracks/pops/stutters/slow mo audio/computer locks up. It actually happened when Ed was at Wembley in 2015 and I'm assuming this was the solution they came up with to stop it ever happening again.
The Chewie II sacrifices 5 twin pedal RC20 to give Ed the same feeling he used to get when he stepped on a Boss RC20XL. By the way, Boss Footswitch is the best. Sadly, Boss has changed to generic small Footswitches in their most recent loop pedal line.
So if the looper goes down shows over? Hope they got redundant backups of his board. What a easy job of FOH, only have one vocal and two left right channels from the loop board interface & TB channel.I would fall asleep at the wheel mixing that show!
Men such a complex set up and its a great set of gear.., I just wonder if Ed Would consider having a back up band with him rather than going solo.. It must be nicer to have that kind of set of gigs rather than all loops and all that but still he did a great job and the crew with the sound engineer
The software they're using to host the loop station (Mobius looper) has a resync option built in that detects when the drift is greater than a set amount. For example, if the drift is out by 2048 frames, the master (or slave, depending on the setting) will realign itself to bring them back into sync.
Meyer Sound speakers are active speakers, so each speaker box has its own amplifier built in. From 0:30 he goes through all the speakers he is using. You can count from that!
Amazing how much time, effort and tech goes into shows. How do you plan for audiences being within the stadium with the delay setups and eq etc... assuming they effect that, or is this adjusted on the fly?
Depends on preference. Both have advantages and disadvantages. The Meyer Sound rig in this case is all active speakers. Many shows of this size also tour with passive speakers, for example, d&b.
Like he said, he wanted that tuner and if you are Ed Sheeran you probably have the money to get that integrated. Considering that the boss chromatic tuner was probably his first ever bought pedal, i can understand why he wanted to keep it. So it's not about the ability to put a tuner in that custom looper, rather a choice of preference :)

My signal goes straight in to my board and then my volume pedal has a tuner out. I can have my tuner on always and it doesn’t affect the sound or signal chain. I understand redundancy but damn. I always have a backup amp, guitars etc, but good grief.
Probably around $12 million for the audio system alone. Let alone the video gear, screens etc. Double that for a rough estimate, and its still conservative
What’s still real and what isn’t? Once you start playing these vast arena’s, I guess you need all the help you can get from this kinda equipment to sound your best.
Nothing is real the moment you use a mic. most of the fancy EQ and compression is there to overcome the vagaries of how mic.s respond to vocals and how stadiums venues respond to unnaturally loud noises.
Might as well be speaking a foreign language. None of this information makes any sense to me. You need to be an audio engineer to appreciate any of this video.
