It’s as if they made one of most non complex show as complex as possible. I love it
"Big" Mick Hugh''s has spent nearly 30yrs making 4 guys into over 56 Channels at FOH, are you really surprised?
Damn all that equipment for a guitar and mic lol
Priceless!
This is funny!!! they talk like its going to be ACDC onstage? incase anything will go wrong, we can switch to another laptop! he's got a big looper!! he has 1000 units! incase this goes wrong? why do they keep talking about things going wrong??? how many channels goes a damn acoustic player need??? does he have 500 mics on stand-by incase they cut out? and the mention of dealing with a challenge!! yeah!! we all focus on one guy?????? its like setting up an Iron Maiden gig mate! :)
@@Gibson1976uk with a full band there's more stuff to hide behind if anything goes wrong. with one guy and a guitar, if anything goes wrong, everyone notices. therefore makes total sense to have this level of redundancy at every level. their ableton tech says there's 8 channels of RF inputs...so that might be main vocal mic, loop mic, spares for both those, and 4 guitars...not that ridiculous for a stadium show
1mic
1loop pedal
1acoustic guitar
4 channel mixer
@@Gibson1976uk "...why do they keep talking about things going wrong???" Murphy's law.
you guys don't get the credit you deserve! Much love for the effort put in to make this video
Thank you very much!!!
That tuner is nuts!
Watching this, I realise I don't know a jack shit and all the long Audio-Engenering-programs are really needed.
That tuner idea is just 👌. Much love for the effort put into this video production.
Tuner hack took the cake. Well done. Engineering for engineering's sake. Take a bow, guys
Awesome, there aren’t many videos that go into such detail
Thanks a lot!
Love the modified pedal to send a tone to the console to gate the guitar for mute tuning. Nice job. Will have to build one for my so the artist can mute for tuning.
Wouldn't a simple midi pedal for muting together with an always-on tuner have solved that a bit cheaper and simpler?
My Hobby.. Getting goosebumps seeing all these
@2:00 That tyre on the floor is jealous of those processors sophistication.
I'm really attracted to this kind of hard work and expertise. Much as the general public is so fond the main artists, my greatest focus and respect goes to the sound design engineering team. Much Love
Thank you.
To think Ed used to carry all his equipment in his guitar case and rucksack and set it up himself.
Yeah... not so much any more
selling cds from the rucksack, aiming for the major
Joey C. Zhu Nation wide till we're just jack
Wow. Seems like some company is justifying their use.
this is awsome
The analog tuner solution is fantastic!!
Man this is complex . But with a lot of safety. Great job .
Thank You
All of that nice equipment for musical valium.
Amazing how much time, effort and tech goes into shows. How do you plan for audiences being within the stadium with the delay setups and eq etc... assuming they effect that, or is this adjusted on the fly?
Even when he explained Ed’s loop station, I still didn’t really get it 😅
Is a midi controller with an audio interface.
I had no idea what he was talking about but it sure sounded incredibly cool. 🤣
I just wanna know what the tire is used for at 2:08 ?
So what does the tire do?
Ed shrean is the man. And credit goes to everyone in the behind also..💗
Such a coplex work to give the best music...🥰😍
So if the looper goes down shows over? Hope they got redundant backups of his board. What a easy job of FOH, only have one vocal and two left right channels from the loop board interface & TB channel.I would fall asleep at the wheel mixing that show!
The Chewie II sacrifices 5 twin pedal RC20 to give Ed the same feeling he used to get when he stepped on a Boss RC20XL. By the way, Boss Footswitch is the best. Sadly, Boss has changed to generic small Footswitches in their most recent loop pedal line.
the guitar tuner is crazy!!!
Yeah, where theres a will, theres a way I guess, that was quite the workaround.
I'm wondering - if at some point during the set, let's say between songs, Ed strums his guitar and nothing comes out but his vocals are still fine - in the heat of the moment, what's the decision making process that would lead you to hit the 'backup' option and route everything through the backup rack - given that he could have simply pressed the wrong button on his stomp box?
Silence from the guitar isn't what they're talking about when they mention switching between the racks. The back up option is there just incase the laptop crashes, overheats, drops out, CPU gets overloaded, etc. It could manifest as cracks/pops/stutters/slow mo audio/computer locks up. It actually happened when Ed was at Wembley in 2015 and I'm assuming this was the solution they came up with to stop it ever happening again.
Who produces these people ? Does the label sub contract them through a production company ?
its important for Ed's Ableton tracks to be heard clearly
All off this just for one guy, a looper and guitar 😩
so with massive set-up like this which type of speaker system is advisable to use. Active or passive cabinets
Depends on preference. Both have advantages and disadvantages. The Meyer Sound rig in this case is all active speakers. Many shows of this size also tour with passive speakers, for example, d&b.
10:15 That's really smart, never would of though of that!
yeh that is a ridiculously over engineered solution just so he can have that specific tuner on stage 😂
@@integer22 Was thinking the same thing! I would never think of it because it's dumb 😆 just ask Ed to use a different tuning solution.
Men such a complex set up and its a great set of gear.., I just wonder if Ed Would consider having a back up band with him rather than going solo.. It must be nicer to have that kind of set of gigs rather than all loops and all that but still he did a great job and the crew with the sound engineer
The guitar goes in this one. This one’s for the microphone. These turn it up louder.
I understood 100% of this video, who else is with me 🤣😆😂🤦♂️
Yes
I want to know how many amplifiers has to power the system, how many amps the bass system used to run the low frecuency
Meyer Sound speakers are active speakers, so each speaker box has its own amplifier built in. From 0:30 he goes through all the speakers he is using. You can count from that!
I'm at guitar center, they don't have any of this, even the tire🤷🏿♂️
whats a starting salary for Audio Systems Engineer?
What happens if the mother to slave alignment goes out of phase?
halion9 Drum solo
The software they're using to host the loop station (Mobius looper) has a resync option built in that detects when the drift is greater than a set amount. For example, if the drift is out by 2048 frames, the master (or slave, depending on the setting) will realign itself to bring them back into sync.
and that tire is for? 01:51
nice
Wait. What is the digico for if he is mixing on an allen and heath?
Andrew Goulson The A&H is for the Support.
Billi Gert Rick sorry. New to large live sound situations. Do you mean backup?
@@andrewgoulson Its for the supporting act. Warmup band maybe?
@@andrewgoulson like the others said, fo the opening act. fun fact the digico you are seing there has 2 working redundant machines inside. if one fails the other one will take on without any dropout. one of the most capable and expensive console for live music there is.
The guy in front of A&H introduced as Jamie Lawson's FOH engineer.
Pretty sure that it was for Jamie Lawson, probably opening act for Ed.
I only understood Ed Sheeran.
WOW !!! That's a long way from Altec Lansing A7's and a Shure Vocal Master...hee hee
i am confused, what the hell does that rim aside the racks at 1:43 :))
Do you mean the tyre? It's actually there for when the video screens are lowered so not to damage the screen :)
You seem to be confused on what a rim is too.
Any behringer gear there?
Probably in their trash can after it exploded.
🤣
The sound system :)
Unreal
I understood some of these words.
but is it live?
Yes
5:20 about the wedge level, yeah it’s important that the wedge level is dropped significantly, you certainly don’t want a failure mid wedge, it really doesn’t inspire confidence otherwise.😅😅😅😅😅😅
So is the mixer analog & power by class ab amplifiers 😬
I think my brain is cooking now 🙂
And all that for some standing zombies that watch the show through their phone and couldn’t tell if I did the engineering or not 😂😂😂
This guy favorite word is ( uhmm ) 😂
😂 😂 😂
Can anyone translate this to English?
I need to borrow this system to tune-up some neighbours who give me grief for playn’ my old Sabbath records when I get back from the bar Tuesday nights-well...Wednesday morning really.
Take a shot every time he says 'eh'!
Víp quá
You're supposed to show a bit of the final result when the act is on stage lol.
Was that first guy getting paid to say "uh"?
You're not going to have me sit here and believe that Chewie couldn't put a tuner into that floor monster.
Like he said, he wanted that tuner and if you are Ed Sheeran you probably have the money to get that integrated.
Considering that the boss chromatic tuner was probably his first ever bought pedal, i can understand why he wanted to keep it.
So it's not about the ability to put a tuner in that custom looper, rather a choice of preference :)
@@Firby007 Just a little joke. I shared a laugh with the guys from M 1 about the tuner.
i dont know how them small line arrays are even nearly enough to fill that stadium
Must have never heard the Leos
Can someone explain all this to me. I'm lost. Sound engineering or computer programming 😂😂😂
😈
42 dual subwoofers🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ wow
Geordi laforge would be proud.
Ahhh
Couldn’t get past the “ummmms” lol
he reminds me a lot of Freddy mercury.
Wahahahah wait til I see Charlie 😂
All that for a tuner...
That ticket money has gotta go somewhere…
What is the cost of all that ??
Probably around $12 million for the audio system alone. Let alone the video gear, screens etc. Double that for a rough estimate, and its still conservative
@@shaunsiriweera120 That's a lot 😅
say uh or uhm one more time
Oh my god looking at this you think you'd be at a Jackson concert we understand if it was his gigs but this is Ed Sheeran it's crazy we mean we Love Ed Sheeran to but this is nuts
Would not work without that tire.
Weird. Why do they need so much stuff
easiest sound engineer gig ever
It's a 7 minute video minus the 'Aah-Mm'
😂
Does he look like Freddie Mercury...or its just me?
pretty sure most of the buttons are useless....
No it's not every single button is important
Genius
If u covered his eyes u wud thought it was Christian Bale
Holy fuck, WHY???
uuh
who removed this dudes lips in color grading??? shame :-)
The most un rock and roll explanation of a sound system I have ever heard.
Probably sound ok though.
Is this English 😂👍
Might as well be speaking a foreign language. None of this information makes any sense to me. You need to be an audio engineer to appreciate any of this video.
bruh i would just use a midas hd96 and that’s it with the line arrays and subs tho, and i’ve found a discord call works well for coms
All this shit for that dude?
Yes ?
What’s still real and what isn’t? Once you start playing these vast arena’s, I guess you need all the help you can get from this kinda equipment to sound your best.
Nothing is real the moment you use a mic. most of the fancy EQ and compression is there to overcome the vagaries of how mic.s respond to vocals and how stadiums venues respond to unnaturally loud noises.
15mns of gibberish lol
RUMA that’s because your not aware of what a real sound system consists of
To me he spoke a special language
@@paulthesoundguy1 Sure. It's just ironic to see these dudes talk about these things in a way that's completely incomprehensible and inaccessible when the heart of the project is a dude plugging a guitar into a looper and singing
@@remychadwick2467 Just because you dont know anything about large format live sound rigs doesnt mean they are "incomprehensible", you just need to learn more.
