Buy a axe for splitting. Batoning to make tinder from small pieces of timber, yeah. Batoning logs, No. That's why the caveman invented axes. There is a reason we still use them. The trail master is a very good knife. Don't abuse it. Nice to see a knife thats being used, and looks used. Cheers!
the axe need solid sawen lods to split witha base, so you need to bring a saw aswell to achieve tha same with as batoning can do,just makes sense for my needs to ring a msall saw and a large knife, can do the same thing, plus no one brings an axe on a small day hike, if you od its usually small and has little no useless chopping and splitting potential as my condor pack golok can chop deeper just my thought, thanks for watching tho :),
I love the Trail Master. Got my O1 back in 2005! I just got a second one in a CPM-3V. The quality of the O1is so much better than the newer CPM-3V version. Btw, the thickness of the blade is nearly 8mm not 5mm. People really don't understand the trail Master. To me it is perfect for trail blazing or searching for fatwood. I can easily whack branches out of the way or do quick test cuts to check for fatwood quality. With the Trail Master I can get away with just two tools, the TM and my folding Silky saw. Otherwise I would need an axe, a folding saw, and a knife.
@@ericsierra-franco7802 because thats the attitude that gets people in bad situations. Lol. You can get a broken leg.. an injury, have to spend a night outdoors and no easy tinder to start a fire will be a bad situation.. Preparedness 101 :)

I'm so sick of people using knives for hatchets or axes.......ugh.
No one carries an axe or hatchet for a day hike... this proves large knives are way more versatile
