Howdy, just your average joe with an amateur RUclips channel. sharing my passion for blades, he outdoors and nature. greetings from the Yukon territory.
Pro Percision adjust sharpens cru wear!
heres a long overview, use review, and test of the system sharpening a spyderco cru wear PM2! overall id give this system a 5 star rating, just nice as a KME or so. its great for the average joe or pro sharpener like myselfe who trusts it for my sharpening buisniness. just wish it didnt have a limited 3 year warranty/ its a nice, overall system with MUCH problems from previous problems solved. the nicest thing is that the weight of the chassis stays stable and the weight of the rod, and stone holder make it easy to scrub back and forth with perfect pressure. oh and their release was quite a bungle.

worksharp benchstone sharpener: initial impressions,

initial impressions of the worksharp benchstone sharpener. its a 9/10. the stable and sturdy system allows accurate sharpening with ease. it can handle a wide range of knives and tools, axes and machetes! the rocking feature for curved blades is genius, the only gimmick is the angle guides have 2 sides, 20 and 25 degrees. a good startup, and they sell a 2nd set for 15 and 17 degrees, so you can...

I have TKC scales on mine which dramatically improves the stock crappy grip and adds a little much-needed girth to it as well. I'm guessing the heat-treat on mine is garbage, but can never get it all that sharp compared to my other knives (and I've heard this complaint from other people as well). It didn't come very sharp from the factory either - I managed to improve it slightly from stock, but it still sucks. My ESEE's and other knives (love Cru-Wear, my favorite to use and sharpen), I can get super sharp and pretty easily - this knife, nope. It's a knife I reallllllllly wanted to like, especially for the price....but between the aftermarket handle and then a sheath upgrade to replace the abysmal sheath it comes with (unless you enjoy sheaths that rattle around and eventually dull the blade) and sharpening issues, better off just getting something else. It's a great size/feel/ergos/shape, but poor execution - at least in my experience/copy of the knife.
I added some G-10 liners to my JG-5 handle, but still wish the handle was thicker for heavier duty cutting/carving tasks. At least the G-10 made the sheath retention better, as mine came so loose if you merely held it not even fully upside down, the knife would just fall out. Other than the handle thickness, it's a nice little knife. Pairs well with the Gibson axe.
3 sided stone comes apart with one screw. No need to send to WS
The Italian manufactured version has a better blade geometry and grind than the Taiwan version. I dumped the 47 and got a far better Esee 6. Thanks for your video and all the best.
Looks like a nice camp knife. It kinda really calls back to the knives of western settlers. With a nice skandi grind and new materials. I think i will like it 🙂
Ive had the S1 and a carbon garberg and id trust the garberg way more. Ive almost shredded the handle of the S1 just from batining. Imo fallkniven are for ppl who care about pretty knives. But id go with the garberg every time. But each his own
Paracord wrap is cool but not sanitary
It's not 12c27 steel. 👍
Buck 119 kicks ass
I love the Trail Master. Got my O1 back in 2005! I just got a second one in a CPM-3V. The quality of the O1is so much better than the newer CPM-3V version. Btw, the thickness of the blade is nearly 8mm not 5mm. People really don't understand the trail Master. To me it is perfect for trail blazing or searching for fatwood. I can easily whack branches out of the way or do quick test cuts to check for fatwood quality. With the Trail Master I can get away with just two tools, the TM and my folding Silky saw. Otherwise I would need an axe, a folding saw, and a knife.
how can I know how many degrees my knives are sharpened
You can run a permanent marker along the edge, just enough to color in the edge. Then, using a machine like this, set the angle for the highest number of degree and run the sharpening stone across the edge. If you’re not removing all the ink after a couple of passes with the stone, lower the angle and repeat this process until you’ve removed all the ink from the edge. Then, you know the angle that your knife was originally sharpened at.
I love my kobun. I just ordered a lynn thompson signiture edition, with s35vn powdered supersteel. And he signs every box with a sharpie. No tanto tip though, its more like a outdoorsman profile sabre tip. Cant wait
Rare Blade and one of the best , especially with that Steel blend. 😊
You ruined it.
Great review! I like that you remarked about maintaining the width of the ferro rod... I was wondering about it loosening up but I suppose replacing it once a year isn't. big deal if needed.
👍✌️🤝
Dont throw a tomahawk at live trees. Dont show how you chop wood that has been prepared with another tool. Whatever you do to this lying tree seems useless.
Just ordered the serrated model. Gonna install an ulti-clip 3.3. that'll clamp down and secure the blade where you can pull the knife straight out of the sheath. I enjoyed your video very much, subscribed!
Holy fuck. 10k views. Thanks so much guys!
U people in comments care about the coating way to much lol just use it oil it and wipe it off if coating comes off no big seal looks good with wear marks.
I wish they made a carbon version so it can have a nice natural patina I don't like ss or shiny blades & ss tends to dull quickly & slightly harder to sharpen
Yea man I'd really love an sk5 version!
is that music in the background from rdr2?
Yes
Man it's hard to find music that doest get snagged and makes the audio.totaly mute

I am a Big Cold Steel Kobun Fan! Right on! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
You are the best, bro.
Love the video. Also, I loved how well it cut that bell pepper.
ESEE RB3 is a lot better knife.
100% agree
How biased was that? For the Esee you chose a knotted branch that will obviously give difficulty and for the feather stick you chose a lovely strip of wood to make a feather stick out of with the Mora. While cutting feather sticks with the Esee you made hard work of it. I myself have used both knives. It comes down to comfort and grip and the Esee is superior in its field.
Good video, interesting system. Build quality seems on point, especially at price. I can deal with the wobble of clamp to some extent, but if sharpening multiple knives in one sitting there's no way I could deal with how the blade rotation is set up. I do agree that both the lansky and kme are going to be short-lived. But in both their defense, the blade rotation is significantly easier and much less time consuming. Now as far as the work sharp precision adjust, are you talking about the new professional or the original?? Because the original is like $80 less than this system. And the professional is in a different league all together. All in all well put together video on this new system
Thanks buddy!
Hello! I’ve just bought the same knife as yours. So I’m interested how is this knife holding up in comparison with the other knives you tested? In terms of edge holding and sharpness. And what is your favorite bushcraft/survival knife you’ve tested? Thank you
Unfortunately was traded years ago buy man it held its edge well and did not chip out or get edge damage from abuse
Personally, I Baton with the Junglas and finer wood work with the rb3. There’s no reason to baton a 3.5” blade larger than 2”.
Can't beat ESEE warranty
I wonder if you can get stones that fit this system I love the wicked edge format system but I'm not paying $750 for a knife sharpener and I can not free hand a whetstone so idk the work sharp one looks cheap and plasticy
They will fit and you can just glue the "cones" from saucw botttles and cut to shape :) so that the stones hold onto the rods
Yours is what i was looking for and that is the kobun's use for firemaking. Thank you
I just bought this system and right off the bat with my Kizer Begleiter 2 at 22 degrees the diamond stone is hitting the clamp. The kizer does have a pretty small width blade on it but with a system at the price this shouldn’t be an issue
how thin in the blade or how short?sucks to heaqr thats happening
Between this and the master hunter.....
tough choive!!! themaster huntrer can be a great general utility bblade, i guess iots more wich feels better in hand to you
Probably master hunter. Although I find this handle more comfy.
The only problem I have with the knife is the terrible coating . Eventually it will just start flaking off like paint .
Yea the old coating on the aus8 steel was like cheap paint. New stuff with the s35vn is DLC coating like it's pretty much I pregnated in the steel. Much better But then again I think the scratches are sexy
@@northtestedknives4808 I have a Para 2 with dlc that’s seen some use. I think the worn look is great. Never got the knives you don’t use thing.
This knife is not discontinued never was
Why why why? Such a great system and for the price, BUT that’s too much wobble in the base. Please fix this issue and I’ll buy one for sure!
That wobble and the cumbersome blade rotation put me off. Too bad.
@@cecilm3720 I was really hoping this was going to be better than my precision adjust!
@@kevinwilliams0214 I was hoping to get something decent at a cheaper price; but I guess that’s not how life works. Will have to get a Precision Adjust at some point when I feel I can justify the expense.
@@cecilm3720justify the price for the precision adjust?? Are you talking about the professional or original, because the original is way under half the cost of this system.
Just a suggestion but when using fresh/new diamond abrasives you want to wipe the blade off in-between grit progression or you will most certainly contaminate the next grit stone with the last grits used loose diamonds thatre left on the blade...
a good shop cloth or shammy would work wonders
Do you also recommend anything for cleaning the stones better ect.?
@@northtestedknives4808 For cleaning the actual stones, a regular pencil eraser works quite well at removing particles, without being aggressive against the stone.
Part 2 ?????
thanks for reminding my... etting ready for part 2 electric boogaloo
WAS THAT A SHART AT 22:18?????
Lol baby was behind me He had A BIIIIG ONE lol
I have had one for two or three weeks now and have used it twice. Still trying to get the hang of it. I have been using a Worksharp Precision Adjust for 6 months and have become very proficient with it. I thought this one would be an easy switch over but it has its own set of quirks to learn. It has the bigger blade clamp but it doesn’t grip the blade as well as the smaller Worksharp version. But I am still learning it and it should get better with practice.
Yea it's grsy but I have noticed the clamps normally need to be torqued all the way I highly breccomend looking at the KME videos and just using those tequniques
@@rileycoppicus1128 I just realized my RUclips notifications were turned off! I had been wondering why I had no one replying to anything. I just happened to click the bell and saw that I had a bunch of notifications waiting for me from a while back!
@@RSRS-ws3px how are you liking the Cold Steel, and how does it compare to the Work Sharp? Which one do you recommend?
@@devin2355 I have not used it since commenting. I had planned to try it on a couple knives by now but I just keep using the Worksharp. The Worksharp is really working great since I moved to Venev Cerberus Dog Series Dual Side Diamond stones. They sharpen much better than the Worksharp stones.
@@RSRS-ws3px hey thank you for getting back to me, I really appreciate it! I’m pretty sure I’m going to pick up a Work sharp, but when I saw this I was like hmm. Lol I know the Cold Steel is new and all but I think the upgrade ability of the Precision Adjust make it worth it.
Looks like a decent system.
yes very hsppy so far!
I saw your post on CKG. Had to check out the video. A budget friendly alternative to W.Edge would be awesome.
Nice video, here from ckg too. I like the wider stones than the precision, and although the holder may same cheaper I like that the edges are flat so if you smack your nice knife it won’t hit ‘stone first’ onto it, the work sharps edge of stone holder is rounded so I find myself nicking the flipper or handle by accident it drives me nuts.
thanks rob!! yea tha larger abrasives are quite a win because they last longer and remove more material per stroke
Great video man. Definitely gonna have to grab one of those off midway. Sorry to hear about the case breaking in shipping. A big hello to everyone from wyoming
thanks dude!! hahah no worries that astuff happens, the foam on the inside still protects and encloses the stuff so im all good.
Can you loosen the nut that locks the clamp into place, rotate the clamp and blade without removing it, then lock it into place using the front threaded insert? The Precision Adjust has it beat on price. 150 US is 202 Cdn Pesos (at today's rate).
i think so! its a good price for the system
It's about time to end Wicked Edge's heinous prices through fair competition. Well done Cold Steel.
AGREED!!!!! i am 10000% for supporting small buisniness and locla people especially in north america but the price is so wack..... this is a great system for the money. the wicked edgemstones should work too. on this
@@northtestedknives4808 I don't think the Wicked Edge stones will work on this, different diameter hole through the stone holder. But there is even a better one than this, which has 2 arms exactly the same as the wicked edge. I found mine on Ali Express last year for under $50 US at the time, and with a Tormek small knife attatchment you can use it for any size knife.
Ahhh not really. WE 's blade clamp is rock solid with zero wiggle...you can sharpen a much longer blade, and you are sharpening both sides simultaneously......huge advantage, and currently WE had a much broader selection of plates, strops n films plus various size rods and jaws. I think for a first offering cold steel did a great job, but it has to many limitations to make it a effective option in today's market.
Here from ckg. Thank you for the video.
Don't worry guys. I'll make a whole serious on this sharpner. Better lighting and footage ect.
