- silverchair played a fan-only "secret show" as the George Costanza Trio at the Troubadour in Hollywood, California, on December 3, 1996, as a thank you to loyal fans to give them a preview of songs from their second album Freak Show which was going to be released in less than 2 months. This show has been uncirculated until now. First two songs are audio only...the video picks up towards the beginning of the 3rd song. Ahhhh!! I think this is the best performance of No Association of all time. And you can see that they are all having a good time. Chris is going nuts. What an incredible show. I would give a limb to go back in time.
The recovery version is pretty cool too

Ok, so obviously I'm a major 'chair fan but you have no clue how nutty I got when I saw you replied to my comment! I love your channel cuz of your awesome 'chair vids. I just shared this one on 'chair's Facebook fanpage. Jarod, holy almighty, never ever take any of these vids down. I especially love this one because I did see them perform in summer of '97 but it was a music festival and I was sooo far away. I did get to see 'em much closer later on, but nothing beats this cuz this is the time when I first started to like 'em. Also, I can't even actually recall any details from shows cuz they were unbelievable experiences//dreams to me.
Gonna try to not get too cheesy here, but I can't help it. I want you to know your vids and love of this band is awesome and I've enjoyed all of your chair vids and they've helped me and inspired me to write fanfiction (I'm an aspiring author and once I am done writing my 'chair fanfic I am going to turn all the silverboys into original characters) and well... thank you so much!! Anything done to keep the spirit alive of the greatest rock band everrrr is just a blessing to me.

Thought it was just fine. You’re right-this a special gem,especially for “Chair fanatics.
Most footage you come across is basically 99% Daniel-I get it-he is alien level gorgeous. But I was pleased to see you hit done nice moments of Chris and Ben.
*Incubus is as irrelevant and unknown as they were here.
I love the part when Ben gets his hair stuck around his sticks during Tomorrow and you can see him giggle about it before going back to drumming, hehe.

In the mid to late 90s, people who knew who Tool, Korn and Seven Dust were generally knew who Incubus were :)

On third thought Dec 96. Fair enough. And if I head heard of Incubus in Australia in 1997 I’m sure Incubus were already pretty big in terms of the up and coming bands in the U S.
This is so awesome and in so many ways... the "opening band" turned out to be my fave band of all time hahaha silverchair and incubus both still influence me a lot. How I wish I was in that crowd... Thank you for uploading this!
I remember receiving this bootleg on cassette in late-90s, one of my first siverchair bootlegs!! Such a good show!
Ugh, spoke too soon, I had the entire show from the recording used for the first two songs, a minidisc & directional condenser mic crowd recording. I've seen the video before but never bothered trading for it, it's too low quality *shrugs*.
Maybe it's time to start uploading from my archive of 150 or so chair bootlegs.

This was a treat! The ladies at the front row of the balcony were defo their mothers, look at them bobbing happily to Paranoid lol and so excited about Tomorrow the one even stood up
Not to mention they were one of the few old anough to smoke in that venue lmao
In hindsight it must have been pretty weird having them around in every show, I get that they were pretty boring lads (maybe with exception of Ben?) but can you imagine being a teen in a popular band overseas and wanting to get drunk, get laid, sneak into clubs with random groupies and your mom is waiting after the show by the van like "ok let's go to the hotel already"
I thought their fathers were with them 🤔
Sometimes the mums were with them and sometimes the dads. That was indeed their mothers on this run.
This would have been a great show to see! My heart goes out to Daniel towards the end of the show a couple girls tried to get at him and he even had to stop singing for a minute! Poor kid.

PLEASE, who ever has this master tape needs to digitize it correctly. It was a 4:3 standard definition recording and it should remain 4:3. There were no widescreen consumer level camcorders in 1996. This video has been unnecessarily stretched to 16x9 and is now distorted. If the original taper is still in LA please get a hold of me to make this transfer. I have the proper equipment to do this.
It wasn't stretched, it was cropped. I transferred it from a VHS copy (probably a 1st or 2nd gen...not sure who has the master anymore) to DVD, and then when I put it in iMovie, I didn't realize it was cropping it when I added the other photo files and titles so I could include the audio from the missing songs from the video.
@@JarodFrank Ok cool good to know. It does look good. Probably the best I've seen. If it was "cropped" then I'm assuming it is simply zoomed in (since it isn't letter-boxed with burned in black bars) which means it's lower resolution overall. I'm only trying to help not be mean sorry if that isn't obvious. Thanks for putting it up at all!

" on RUclips, someone uploaded the incomplete version in a much lower gen that hasn't been cropped, so you can see what's missing. And to me, once I realized it WAS cropped (which wasn't my intention), it seemed like it wasn't worth re-doing it. But I might do it at some point.

They didn't really tour with them, but I believe Incubus was a new artist on the same record label as silverchair, so the label had them open this special show for the 'chair.
Must have been the very first time hearing alot of these freakshow songs
