tbh I feel one thing thats missing is a structure for the storylines. They're all either really chaotic or small feuds are still going after multiple months. Like the HoB/Death Triangle feud that just refuses to end
@@WeNeedMorePositivityInTheWorld i actually think its ok and makes sense how the stories never end , other things just happen its life... especially in Kingston and jericho case the things the 2 did to eachother you wouldnt just forget next week b/c you won or lost at a ppv or a big match I could be alone though
I will always love AEW because they made me enjoy wrestling again. We're really seeing the side effects of not having Kenny Omega on TV. Dynamite is still entertaining and I watch every week, but I do agree that the show hasn't felt the same
Same, without AEW wrestling would just be something that I used to watch. The last 3 years have been my favourite since 2000 when the Rumble, No Way Out and Wrestlemania, especially the awesome Foley story made me first love wrestling
Agree with how much i love AEW.Thank you Tony. But i really feel like this AEW issue has more to do with the bloated roster. With all these injuries, I suppose it's a good thing. But having to get every "top" guy thier TV time, makes all the TV times feel less.
The roster has grown so big that it's hard for everyone to get screen time and for characters to connect to each other. There's also no main journey story to follow right now either. TK needs a team of writers/bookers to help him out. He can pick the best of the group output, but he doesn't have to write it himself.
@@staticcharm3808 Writers are not inherently bad. Writers have created all of the popular story-driven media of today from The Boys to Stranger Things. The most famous example is the MCU, with story threads going all the way back to Iron Man 2008. WWE is know for throwing out scripts and show bibles for Vince's whims at any given time. I suggest a more collaborative effort with the writers and wrestlers working together. I believe Tony is overwhelmed and trying to put everything on his back, but it's too much for any one man. I believe that the current product is a display of him having too much on his plate.
I just want TK to stop hiring ex-WWE wrestlers (I like AEW way more than WWE btw). Also, I guess hiring just one creative writer (someone better than Vince Russo) would help improve AEW even more.
AEWs biggest problem seems to be stubbornness. They seem to want to stick to their plan come hell or high water. So when someone is hurt they just... wait. They dont change the plan they just stand around and do nothing until the person comes back. Look at how long the Julia Hart/House of black story took. Why did it take so long? Because Rey Fenix was hurt. You do not need to wait for Rey Fenix to return to pull the trigger on a Malakai/Julia story. That is ridiculous. AEW has to learn that when your roster availability changes, your plans need to change too. You cant just stand around and wait for Omega to continue the story.
Basically, it's injuries combined with the turbulence of the roster swelling up so quickly. In the long run, what AEW should do is let some contracts expire while passing over some names that become available and generally be more choosy about new signings. The wrestling business is healthier than it was during the pandemic and Khan doesn't need to give jobs to everyone anymore, so that provides the luxury of letting people work the indies and then AEW can just pounce when someone catches fire. Khan also needs to be more flexible about his long-term planning when injuries derail things. We basically know he's waiting for Kenny to come back to debut the trios belts, but we could have had trios belts literally two years ago because the roster has always been stacked with excellent factions and it's even fuller now.
Something as simple as Kip Sabian pushing Colt Cabana who was sitting at ringside then them having a match the next Dynamite are things I miss. It's so little and stupid but, I remember it.
Kenny Omega is a huge loss, I miss his presence every week. I can’t even get excited for Forbidden Door because he won’t be there. I don’t get why Danielson won’t be there either nor Naito or Okada wrestling. But that’s a different story. That being said, AEW had something feel missing since last year in my opinion. TK Booking has been weird and repetitive, the title scene has been questionable (TNT & Womens in particular).. I miss how it used to make me feel prior to this crazy influx of talent. 2020 - 2021 AEW was just lit every week. Omega’s title reign was fucking cinema man, Hangman was good but it didn’t resonate with me like Kenny’s. I found myself not caring as much because the moment Punk debuted the writing was on the wall. The roster feels inflated too and some wrestlers I absolutely loved just got lost in the mix. I thought they’d be elevated and now they’re floating around having random tag matches and rivalries that last for months on end. We had all these debuts and most of them went on to do nothing of real significance. I know this is a King Kenny Omega video but I just felt like venting a little because I want AEW to be at its best.
im pretty sure Naito was only going to go if Andrade was going to be there so they could reunite LI (along with RUSH) but since CMLL and AAA are being pissy about it no Andrade, Fenix, or Penta. So while Naito would be awesome, he wouldnt have that big moment that im sure everyone involved wanted so hes not going to be (or might get announced tonight, who knows) Danielson and Okada were mentioned by the other comment from Baddestman, injury and baby (i think his first) respectively. Although with Danielson addressing things tonight who knows he might say hes cleared. The only reason anyone is saying other is that Alvarez got the impression he was going to be out a while, but wasnt actually told that was the case. Regarding the Roster I have a feeling once ROH gets going (hopefully before end of year) the bloat on the roster will drop considerably since some of the roster are probably going to shift over there like Brian Cage did. I also have a feeling that's where some of the Indie talent are going to get signed to to work on things like gimmicks, promo skill, looks etc, while the champs can float back and forth between ROH and AEW to keep interest in both products. At least that's my hope.
it's the feel and look of the show. the stage, theme song, coms team has been the same for 3 years and is desperately crying out for an upgrade. thought we would've got that at the 3year anniversary show but here's hoping after forbidden door. ALSO TK, IF THE ENTRANCE STAGE AT FORBIDDEN DOOR IS NOT A FK'N DOOR IMMA SCREAM. thankyou
You were so close and managed to hit many problems without actually addressing the most major issue with the promotion and why every show feels like a bunch of thrown together segments instead of one overarching interconnected story. The roster is too big, even major huge named stars are treading water let alone days of the past where they actually had to spend time making even teams such as Best Friends or Butcher and the Blade feel important. Now even guys like Andrade or Malakai are just kind of 'there'. Stop hiring people left and right, its that simple once the roster goes down to manageable size booking can become more coherent.
Couldn't agree with this take more - at least get them building stories on Dark or *something*. Or just send them over to ROH whenever that finall gets up and running
Go look at the roster and out of the people getting regular TV time who do you cut. I just went through and there are only like thirty of the men and maybe ten women that you can argue could be cut. But, they all only wrestle on RUclips. They're not taking TV time from anybody. Roster bloat is a lazy argument.
@@gernblanston2652 Don't sign so many to begin with so you don't encounter this problem. To ignore roster bloat as THE problem after staring it in the face for nearly a year at this point only comes from morons who if the company were to go under would still chirp 'everything was perfect'. Keep watching and shut your mouth if you think its still as good as it was 1, 1.5, 2 years ago.
Kenny Omega is essentially the MAIN CHARACTER of AEW. He's probably the biggest reason this promotion even exists, and right now AEW feels to me like filler. The Young Bucks, Hangman, Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, Mox, Pac, Orange Cassidy, The Dark Order are no where close being relevant as they were feuding with Kenny and he had the best championship reign imo. Everybody from NJPW would benefit if Kenny was around right now, he's got history with everybody more or less. Get well soon, Cleaner!
AEW definitely has issues. One of my issues is some talent not being used and then later on when we see them, they are forgotten about. I would like to see more talent utilized but a second issue, I would also like to see storylines more. Not just dream matches
@The Baddestman yeah thats gonna be a hard thing to do right now with the current roster they have. In order for the Ruby Sohos, Nyla Roses, Brian Cages, etc to get more TV time, they need to get rid of talent they don't need or create more shows for the talent to appear on. More shows may be good but it might lead to burn out for the fans. Them getting rid of talent I don't see them doing because they don't wanna be look at as another WWE
@@kidz919 rampage needs to be 2hrs and live maybe that’ll help with people getting more tv time like the people that’s not on dynamite they be on rampage and they gotta make rampage just as important as dynamite
That’s how I felt for the past few weeks, after Revolution I just haven’t been into AEW as much. I still watch but it just feels off. The booking and missing of talent doesn’t help. Especially how they booking Thunder Rosa and the women’s division
@@staticcharm3808 dude I legit just said that I still watch the show. Just because Kenny or Cm Punk ain’t there, don’t mean I don’t like AEW. I was a fan of Cody and hoping he would turn heel but when he left AEW, I just wished him the best and kept watching AEW. As a Mexican, I’m able to connect with Thunder Rosa so it’s a bit disappointing that she isn’t in a prominent role on TV. The TBS title feels more important than their world women’s championship
Its unparalled storytelling was the reason I got hooked into AEW and watched pro-wrestling again. It had subpar production quality and botched spots but I still kept watching every week because I was hooked to the Elite's story. Along with the fact that anyone in the roster has a legit chance to become the World Champion. I miss that AEW.
They've dropped the ball by not having Adam cole take the lead as the leader of the Elite until Omega returns which could then start the Elite vs Undisputed war. They've also let the dark order stagnate and become a comedy act. They should have gotten Wyndam to take over for Brodie even as a steward for the DO until Negative one comes of age. If they can't get Wyndam then I would have put Evil Uno as the leader. Even having Hangman be their leader would be a good call. JUST DO SOMETHING WITH THE DARK ORDER. I was really confused with how negative one hugged Tay at Revolution but she still lost to Cargill??? The DO should have helped her win, then they could have done the couple champions angle with Sammy.
I haven't even watched this video yet and I know it's going to touch the heart. If it's a video about Kenny Omega I already know it's gonna have replay value. Thank you Tranquilo Club!
AEW has been around long enough to get criticism. That's just natural at this point. I agree AEW needs to do better with their pacing. It's just go go go go go. Occasionally the crowd needs to see a segment last long enough to let it sink in. Not a lot, but you just need more segments like the CM Punk introduction. The Jon Moxley welcome back, or the Adam Cole coronation. Those moments were heavy. Take the Wardlow segments. We need to let him actually get out his promo after going through his journey. Mark Sterling, and Dan Lambert keep interrupting. Yeah they get heat, but it's annoying heat. Wardlow is the male version of Jade Cargill. You look at these two, and they just look dominant. Cargill gets to cut her badass promos after she dominates. Wardlow needs to do the same .
Not only is something missing but the crowds aren’t the same anymore, some casuals are fans now rather than the hardcore ones before, we barely get the AEW chants we used to get 😐 Overall tho I still enjoy the show but they need to do some things better ngl
It’s definitely missing the over arching story. The roster is arguably larger than Wwe’s roster. Moreover, they are just signing up every other hot free agent. Their stories are all over the place. [>
I truly feel like we are just in this awkward in between period, hopefully with RoH starting this summer that will help spread things out for all the talent and will help to provide depth for more storylines.
I feel you're right about Kenny being the next big story, then I feel like something with Punk was gonna be the interim story waiting for omega, then his injury happened. So I'm with you on the holding pattern
There’s a sadness in my heart as the new guys have pushed out and split AEW originals, Dark Order is near enough dead,Penelope Ford & Kip are no longer around Cody being a grumpy kid that’s now turned MJF. Those are just a few examples. I want what i felt was my AEW
To add to everything you have said. I thinkg one of the biggest issues that AEW has is the fact that everything is sooooo long. Dont get me wrong I love long term booking. But not every single story need to be long term booked. Look at House of Black vs Triangulo de la Muerte, they've been feuding for 6 months and for what? Just to wait until Fenix was ok so he could Wrestle with them. In the main storyline I 100% get that you will wait and not fast track some angles. but in the mid to lower card, there are certain things that dont need to last that long specially rivalries. apart from the main story and some other important one, every single feud should be at most from from the Dynamite after a PPV until the next PPV otherwise you kinda forget about the feud and they become heatless matches.
I think AEW has peaked as a company. Like any wrestling company it has its ups and downs. While I do love the company it has its issues and it’s important to acknowledge that
A TON of pressure is gonna be on Jon Moxley to hold that storytelling and overarching narrative of AEW. He is the man who until Kenny comes back and even when he comes back has the biggest draw in the company at this moment with everyone either kinda aimless or injured and has multiple directions that he can take as a character to give others storyline weight that they will need. In the same breath, I can't help but feel that the 4 pillars (3 kinda now huh lol the 4th can be any young star atp yuta, starks, takeshita you name em they all are viable for it) need more character development, especially Darby. Whether we take the sting breakup storyline or major storyline feud with somebody. He's had great matches all the time and I love him but I haven't gotten into a full time Darby story since MJF. Jungle Boy seems to be into this direction with himself v. Christian and Sammy is aligned with Jericho the only to me major arching story since Hangman (a very good story btw) but it's time for their young stars to become just that and seize their opportunity in the main event scene whether that be title reigns promos High built up POV matches they need that pressure. AEW is the only wrestling I really consistently watch nowadays. And while I know the New Japan faces I feel that they aren't building up those guys as well to the American audience save for Tanahashi and Osprey. But just as AEW proved that they can live post Cody, they must always be prepared to live inna possible post Kenny or at least Kenny hiatus. They have been good, they can be better
It’s not that I disagree, but AEW was clearly getting ready to build the summer around CM Punk until Punk got hurt. We’ve had a handful of weeks of unfocused storytelling since then because they had to rip that plan up & start from scratch. We all know that Moxley can carry the company, but it takes time to reorient the entire structure around a different guy, on top of which, they ALSO have to introduce all of these NJPW guys. Obviously it would have been better to push FD (and maybe Blood & Guys) back 2 months, but they already sold tickets. That said, I expect they’ll land on their feet shortly.
My biggest problem with AEW currently is that it feels like it’s been holding off on feuds that should’ve happened earlier and been giving too much time to feuds that, all due respect, weren’t worth the audience’s attention. When the LA Dynamite post-Double or Nothing happened, it felt like a real return to form for AEW, but since then, I’ve been slowly proven wrong. I really hope Tony puts the big names back where they belong and gives the sidelines big names who’ve been working hard to nail down their work the screentime they’ve earned post-Forbidden Door.
I love me some aew, but it does feel like there's areas where it falls short at this time. Cody and brandy were making the show fall short a bit ago but they're gone now if Tony needs booking help there's people that he could hire in those gaps where he just puts in fillers
Feuds have been so-so, build-ups have been lacking and payoffs have uneventful. I'm not sure if it's the overabundance in talent, TK choosing to do EVERYTHING and possibly stretching himself too thin or the buffet style of their presentation (a little bit of everything, without a major focus or expertise on one thing). AEW as a whole has been a little all over the place as of late. Still enjoyable, for the most part, but very all over the place.
In the long run:Kenny Omega Right NOW:MJF he's the Guy we need and that feud with tony khan i can't be the only one who wanna know what the hell is gonna happen next
I have them getting it together by August. So drama in late April and May put a dark cloud over the wrestling world. Few injured stars still put a damper on the shows. The build for both DoN and FD have been a bit too messy because people have to be here or there and things can’t happen yet because something else has to happen! I feel like a good month of focusing back into what “AEW needs to do for AEW” will put them back on track. There’s a lot less distractions when you don’t need to worry about a PPV in a few weeks. August should be go-time for the All Out build, a show that should at least try to top last year’s.
The saga of Bullet Club vs The Elite is missing. A full blown guerrilla warfare angle needs to happen with Jay White vs Kenny Omega leading the feud with G.O.D and Good Brothers being involved
I actually wanna see a Tanahashi run as AEW World Heavyweight Champion. He might need a manager, but there's ready-to-go feuds, his work is spectacular, and he's got charisma. But I understand why TK will put the belt on Moxley. Also, in my mind at least, Wardlow had his star making moment crushing MJF and is not overshadowed by MJF's "pipebomb". I think the shine has left Wardlow because TK did a silly angle between Wardlow and Mark Sterling that was trivial and felt like a time-waste. Then we haven't really seen him since. Wish TK had immediately booked/started a feud between Wardlow and Scorpio Sky over the TNT championship. That should've kept Wardlow' s momentum and breathed new life into Sky's title reign
It didn't feel like you hated AEW at all, don't worry. I can share this sentiment a bit with you though, because I still enjoy a lot watching dynamite but I never remember too much of the episode I saw after a few days. Lack of focus it's the right term to use
What i love in AEW is that the PPVs aren't presented where every Storyline leads to. Here it seems like every dynamite episode is important. I am a long time wrestling fan who stopped waching WWE round about 2012 with the downfall of TNA. Tan ocassionally was watching NJPW and just recently started watching AEW. So far i like it. And you channel helped me with catching up on AEW a little bit more.
The stories were better during the pandemic. Idk if it's because Tony had help planning out the shows from his VPs and now he is too big for his own britches, but something has been off since around the time he signed Punk.
The roster is just too big Summer 2021 was peak AEW I want the focus back on people like MJF, Orange Cassidy and Team Taz A lot of the ex NXT guys I used to love just aren't interesting in AEW, Andrade is boring, Adam Cole is boring, even Keith Lee is boring, Andrade used to be my favourite in NXT TK needs more help, no one should book that much wrestling all alone
One point you made at the end of your video is something I’ve felt is a lingering issue with AEW, Tony has a lot on his plate. With being the owner, COO, Head booker, and also owning and booking shows for ROH he has himself stretched out. That can lead to sloppy storylines, stars being overlooked, and a lack of focus at times. With AEW hiring great wrestling minds like Regal, Anderson, Billy Gunn, JR, and Patt Buck. They should spread out the work load that Tony has. We still don’t know anything about ROH’s future and that should be Tony’s focus, next to booking the storylines for his top guys. Let Regal (who ran NXT in its last glory days) have a shot at booking some episodes of dynamite for a while with Patt Buck and Anderson, give Tony a break and let him focus on ROH for a little bit. Being an overworked COO can be overwhelming and lead to sloppy work, spread out and utilize the talent you have to help with this and I think AEW should find it’s footing once again
Cody Rhodes leaving AEW and returning to WWE is also a huge reason why AEW has lost some credibility, in addition to Kenny Omega’s absence. The company is missing one of its’ founding fathers who helped out a LOT with AEW’s innovation and growth.
What a stupid comment. Cody was so disconnected from AEW he had his own Codyverse that was usually the worst part of the show. Did you forget AEW fans were booing Cody?
My issue right now is how forgettable and unwatchable most matches are this year. I remember back in 2020 and 2021 there's a lot of matches who became "classic" and really enjoyable to rewatch over and over again. But starting around March 2022, Im starting to lost interest. I stopped watching AEW completely after MJF pipebomb and that's it. I respect those who still stick around, and I wish I didnt offend anyone for saying this.
IMO the roster is bloated and TK is getting lost in the weeds in regards to booking. He can’t do it by himself anymore he NEEDS an experienced creative team that can guide him. I also think rampage needs to be 2 hours. You wouldn’t have to make a brand split but the ability is there with another hour. He also needs to give outside wrestlers more screen time if he expects a casual viewer to remember them and be invested in them. There’s way to many disconnects now and it has only beg exposed now more than ever since Punk, Danielson and MJF are out for however long
I agree about the segments thing and characters not interacting with each other. Lots of times it’s like “why isn’t this person in this tournament/ battle royal?” “why isn’t this person in the title picture?” “why aren’t these people getting pushed and doing anything more meaningful and instead in a lot of 6 person tags?” lots of people are sidelined and relegated to certain roles and a lot of it feels stale and not logical. and it’s never explained. anyway and my biggest booking dislike is always the way they mess up the women’s division.
I think another issue with the Adam Cole backlash may also stem from the fact people were kinda expecting him to kick it into another gear after leaving WWE for AEW and he just... hasn't. Like, literally everybody else has been able to shift into another gear, be it instantly or after a few matches. Adam Cole just... hasn't. And with the roster being as good as it is, it kinda highlights a lot of Adam Cole's weaknesses as a performer at the expense of his strengths.
I think you touched on it but didn't quite finish the point: things are siloed. It used to be the complaint people had about Cody (the "Codyverse") but now it's more prevalent throughout the show. Anything that Jericho touches becomes about Jericho, for example; I don't get the sense that Santana and Ortiz are gonna challenge for the tag titles any time soon.
Dude I don’t know your name nor your face but what I know is I know your voice everyday I check your RUclips videos I was planning today to go twitter and then send you a massage I have exams yet I have the time to check your channel because I listen every video you have I automatically know every line in every video as I’m introvert your videos are my friends I stopped watching wrestling in 2014 and 2019 I began with aew so I’m fan of your storytelling so you better gave me a lots of videos and I’m not apologizing for thaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
Before I watch this video I’m gonna say that’s it’s no particular wrestler or personality. It’s no storyline or championship. What’s missing is that sense of urgency. It’s missing that “I HAVE TO WATCH” feeling. Everything feels like it’s in a holding pattern until we get where ever TK actually wants to go.
So many comments talking about how AEW is in a holding pattern because there's no Kenny Omega. That just proves one of two things: for all the shit they talk about WWE, AEW has either learned nothing from the sheer amount of times a top star getting injured, going part time, or being forced to retire has put a gaping hole in the WWE product over the past decade, or TK is too married to the idea of Omega, the Bucks, and now CM Punk being the company's main characters, to realize that sometimes they need to take a step back or even get blatantly humbled and forced to overcome something in order to actually be strong. Case and point: for all the talk from channels like this about how The Elite are master class long term storytellers, there is a hot smoking crater on their roadmap that nobody wants to address: how The Elite's road to building AEW came at the expense of the united power of Bullet Club and the credibility of NJPW's titles. I remember when Jake the Snake Roberts started picking beef with Cody Rhodes before introducing Lance Archer as his guy. He pointed out that everything Cody and the others built here started with somebody's idea of who the best of Bullet Club was, and he accused them of not bringing Archer to AEW because they knew what he was capable of and they were afraid of him. Yes, the name of Bullet Club was bleeped due to the companies not having established working ties together then, but as someone who has been vocally skeptical of this company because of how the executives' idea of creativity that revolutionized the independent corner of the industry was "let's be the guys who fracture this stable we've been trusted with that has always been portrayed as this strong heel covenant because of our egos, kinks, and proclivities coming at odds with each other," I was excited at the potential that this was going to be a plot point. But it never was. Cody just quietly left The Elite, and while their internal bickers and the insecurity with Adam Page was used as a nice contrast to The Inner Circle's unity, Chris Jericho never once made a point to say that The Elite's dysfunctional relationship goes back years already and therefore they shouldn't be the ones to steer this company. No one else they feuded with said anything about their troubled past pre-AEW either. No one wanted to talk about the crater on the side of the road. No, it's even worse than that. No one wanted to talk about the crater *in the middle* of the road. Imma come back and talk about The Elite's heel turn in a couple hours.
Alright, I'm back. When Kenny Omega turned heel with Don Callis to start the Impact partnership, Kenny IMMEDIATELY linked back up with Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows and claimed it was time to "reform the old Bullet Club." Anderson and Gallows, who were pressured to participate in The Elite's ouster of AJ Styles only to join him and Prince Devitt, who The Bucks had kicked out, in WWE months later. Who have been established as still talking to Tama Tonga all the way up to the days of The OC and the resurrection of The Prince, which was *after* The Elite got kicked out for The Switchblade's Cutthroat Era restoration of the pure BC. Thus they would KNOW everything I previously said about how The Elite exploited and damaged Bullet Club. And yet. "Machine Gun" Karl Anderson and Luke "DOC" Gallows, the original heart and soul of Bullet Club behind its aces, so much so that their entire WWE run was a coded faint echo of Bullet Club, linked up with Kenny in TNA, formed Super Elite with him and The Bucks in AEW, and not only allowed but encouraged them to claim Bullet Club while dissing its active incarnation, all without a single hint of drama. And NOBODY in AEW would dare to call them on it. In fact, it was during the tail end of Kenny's title run that CM Punk, the man who not only rode the wave of rebellion against corrupt authority all the way to the top of the business for a year, but became revered as a mythical god for walking out on the business over seven years ago, returned to wrestling in the same company where The Super Elite exists...and declared that he doesn't need to be The Voice of the Voiceless anymore because AEW listens to the fans. Vince McMahon has done a lot of sketchy things, but one thing he's never done is have a top babyface accuse him on-air of listening to the fans while he's running an angle as the corrupt top heel. I need one of you true believers in AEW's mastery of long term storytelling to explain to me how anything I've described here makes sense. Otherwise, y'all might wanna stay tuned. Because I do see one factor that's emerged through all this that may provide the patch that this plot hole sorely needs: the involvement of the actual Bullet Club.
Agreed, numerous injuries has clearly hamstrung the momentum. Best thing to do is go back to basics and lay the foundation for next big storyline, while others remain in a holding pattern.
It’s missing structure. AEW is trying to be every other promotion , Instead of being itself. AEW is so desperate for viewers, They bring in ex WWE wrestlers ,New Japan wrestlers , Lucha wrestlers. Totally ridiculous
I think AEW desperately needs another show. They have so many talents and with the addition of ROH, it’s way too much for 1 main show. Rampage is great, but 1 hr is way too short.
I think my biggest complaint was how last minute some of the matches for Forbidden Door were announced, especially for the IWGP World Title. Mox vs Tanahashi was handled okay, imo. The other bigger blow is the number of wrestlers who are currently injured. Danielson vs Zack would have been incredible. I don't know if this will be an annual event every year, but hopefully they can have a great story to tell next time. ps. I'm biased but I'd love to see more LIJ members in next years event (if there will be one).
A lot of us are starting to feel that flame dwindle. Idk what’s going on but Tony needs to do better with his booking! He needs HELP! STOP DOING EVERYTHING YASELF!
I typed up a big long reply but I am just going to summarize it. 1) Too many baby face champions got their belts at the same time, which meant a ton of work had to go into legitimizing their reigns with solid wins and starting whole new stories and feuds from scratch, which takes a lot of time and effort, which was NOT realized the way anyone would have hoped or wanted. Also, it required a lot of top-ish tier heels to be kind-of-sort-of jobbed to the champions to help pad their Ws (like Archer and Hangman). 2) Forbidden Door is happening way too close to AEW's last PPV and NJPW's next PPV. It has massively hurt the buildup and hype for this PPV. I am still going to enjoy it but imagine if they had another month to slow roll this PPV. 3) Injuries. JFC, so many injuries. AEW is better off than WWE right now but both were kneecapped when so many of their stop wrestlers got injured (or wanted time off or had to be removed from TV). 4) Lack of focus on middle-term booking (i.e. building a story up to be completed at the next PPV). AEW can do long term stories really well and short term mostly well (when they put in the effort) but their middle-term, booking is atrocious and needs to be overhauled. 5) Everything involving Sammy has been awful since he won the belt. It is good they are putting him back with Jericho. 6) Stretched out storylines. The Julia/House of Black storyline was good. But it needed to be resolved faster and have a better build. It took way, way too long for that story to end. This is a common issue with a lot of the non-top-of-the-card wrestlers right now. Their stories can feel like butter scraped over too much bread. Regardless of my complaints, AEW is still GREAT and I adore it. We are just in a rough patch. Happens to every promotion. Heck, it has happened to AEW a few times before. Things will get better after Forbidden Door and we go back to normal.
I stopped watching AEW less and less when they kept bringing in ex-WWE talent like Andrade and not doing anything with him. When Kenny Omega & Don Calis took time off that was understandable but a downer because they were so good. Then, when original AEW talent was pushed aside for meaningless spotlights to bad angles that sucked too. Cody Rhoads leaving has left a whole also because his passion and crazy matches are notably gone. AEW for the first time feels stagnate. I really think they need to re-focus their energy on fixing their booking issues, getting rid of Jericho on the commentary team, reduce their roster expansion so that we can give more time to the current wrestlers.
This is what made me hate AEW lol. I always wanted Pac to be the AEW Champion and he should be by now but instead he is involve in that horrible storyline. Adam Cole is still the same as he was in WWE no gimmick change at all cant take the guy seriously being a threat to a world title. Pac has more charisma, personality but seems like Khan wants the skinny ass Adam Cole to be on the main event scene.
What AEW is missing are the locker room segments. It needs a bit more time to tell stories. It's mostly just an interview interruption. You need to also show the characters talking among themselves. Like have BCC in their locker room. Mox tells how that opponent X is a good wrestler, but has still seen nothing of violence. Danielson tells that some kid looks promising and has said in an interview that he wants to join, Regal is not convinced and Claudio tells that he will test him, just arrange the match. Segment ends with Yuta asking about Jericho and Regal says that he will get what's coming to him, trust me or something like that and there's a mean grin on his face and segment ends. Now we are wondering what Regal is planning and we know Claudio will be kicking somebodys face in and why they will do it. Maybe Claudio even made a claim that the kid wont last five minutes, but impresses them by lasting 9 minutes and next time Claudio is bit impressed or something.
I feel like Omega getting injured changed plans they had. Had Omega not gotten seriously injured I feel like the Cole Cassidy feud would've ended with Blood and Guts or a no dq 8 man tag elimination where it probably would've been Cole, Omega and Bucks vs Best Friends( Cassidy, Yuta and either Trent or Chuck) and Okada. Either way I feel like Omega will try to get the Bucks to stay on his side and betray Adam Cole leading to Undisputed Elite vs Omega and Vucks probably with whomever losses getting kick out of the Elite forever
As much as I agree with you, I think that making out Kenny Omega as the lynch pin to this whole operation is really not fair on the rest of the talent at AEW. I think the wheels are beginning to fall off. Putting the belt on CM Punk felt so unearned and didn't come together well as a story - it felt like a business decision, and the incredible Hangman story has been undercut because of it. I love AEW but it's far too bloated, and it's far too unfocused now. As much as I hate MJF for blowing Wardlow's star making turn, he's got a point about all the ex WWE folks coming in and getting top billing. It'd be nice to take a step back, get TK to slow the fuck down, and start building some storied again.
How did MJF blow Wardlow's turn? Regardless of any worked shoots or meet and greet no-shows, MJF went out there and got absolutely *crushed* by Wardlow. MJF left Tony Khan with an EASY opportunity to have Wardlow conquer that battle royal, beat up Jon Moxley, beat Tanahashi at the Door for that interim title, then come out and state that his two main goals for the title are one, to beat CM Punk when he comes back and become undisputed champion, and two, to take the AEW title to Wrestle Kingdom and defend it against NJPW's best. Wardlow could've been a made man for life because of MJF, and he wasn't because TK stuck to fixed plans and politics rather than run with the hot hand.

Omega? He doesn't lace the boots of Punk, Danielson and MJF.
Agree with how much i love AEW.Thank you Tony. But i really feel like this AEW issue has more to do with the bloated roster. With all these injuries, I suppose it's a good thing. But having to get every "top" guy thier TV time, makes all the TV times feel less.
Twinkle Toes Mcfinger bang! Our favorite wrestler Kenny Olivier!
is story line not good? i feel that
The roster has grown so big that it's hard for everyone to get screen time and for characters to connect to each other. There's also no main journey story to follow right now either. TK needs a team of writers/bookers to help him out. He can pick the best of the group output, but he doesn't have to write it himself.
So basically you want AEW to be like WWE with their Hollywood writers. Wouldn't that make them WWE lite then?
@@staticcharm3808 wwe’s problem isn’t it’s team of writers, it’s that old ass Vince McMahon doesn’t listen to them.
He needs to split ROH from AEW and divide the roster.
You cant just stand around and wait for Omega to continue the story.
andrade vs pac was like that too. they waited for pac istead of putting andrade in any other work
5 points for this keyboard warrior 🌚
Yeah like how they're waiting for Kenny for the Trio Titles. Dude those titles were perfect now cuz of how many new teams have been formed
Well said. 👍
Agreed. Some people need to be let go. And ya tk needs to stop signing people from WWE and look elsewhere. Impact, njpw,GCW,MLW,Defy etc.
kenny omega is THE thing that AEW is missing, end of discussion.
Something as simple as Kip Sabian pushing Colt Cabana who was sitting at ringside then them having a match the next Dynamite are things I miss. It's so little and stupid but, I remember it.
I miss Kip, differant.

Okada has a kid on the way and Bryan might be injured
im pretty sure Naito was only going to go if Andrade was going to be there so they could reunite LI (along with RUSH) but since CMLL and AAA are being pissy about it no Andrade, Fenix, or Penta. So while Naito would be awesome, he wouldnt have that big moment that im sure everyone involved wanted so hes not going to be (or might get announced tonight, who knows)
Danielson and Okada were mentioned by the other comment from Baddestman, injury and baby (i think his first) respectively.
Okada is confirmed for Forbidden door

@The Baddestman yeah aslong as we dont get that cringe cgi crap and led's everywhere I'm happy with whatever they change

AEW July-December 2021 was peak wrestling. But this year things are going of the rail in the storylines and the booking.

Orale tranquillo with the sponser homie… keep that shit up yo.
i hope Tony just keeps working with the Elite as a partner and trusts the direction they want to push AEW like they did since day one
Actually, I think it’s bad timing for the forbidden door. Okada’s having a baby, the injuries for punk, ibushi, danielson, naito, omega, etc..
I'm glad that aew is getting bigger and more attention... It was just something special about 2019-2020 aew
Not only is something missing but the crowds aren’t the same anymore, some casuals are fans now rather than the hardcore ones before, we barely get the AEW chants we used to get 😐
Overall tho I still enjoy the show but they need to do some things better ngl
@Andrew Vazquez I guess so but the casual fans suck sometimes
It’s just not the same doing a NJPW/AEW show without Kenny☹️
It’s definitely missing the over arching story. The roster is arguably larger than Wwe’s roster. Moreover, they are just signing up every other hot free agent. Their stories are all over the place. [>
Kenny returns at forbidden door to face Jay white
I truly feel like we are just in this awkward in between period, hopefully with RoH starting this summer that will help spread things out for all the talent and will help to provide depth for more storylines.
What is the song that starts at 03:20? Its not listed in the description. Its so good

While I do love the company it has its issues and it’s important to acknowledge that
Loved the intro!!!
Kenny really is AEW. He was the binding catalyst that steered the ship and connected all of the storylines
I think Kenny needs to be treated as the ace of AEW. They can't take for granted the gas that he has left in the tank.
Exactly this!
The wrestling has been great of course but the shows have been feeling just chaotic and less and less of a "must watch tv"
In the long run:Kenny Omega
Right NOW:MJF he's the Guy we need and that feud with tony khan i can't be the only one who wanna know what the hell is gonna happen next
What was the intro song
Our boy got RAID! (shadow legends). How far you come, proud of you 👍
What i love in AEW is that the PPVs aren't presented where every Storyline leads to.
The roster is just too big
Summer 2021 was peak AEW
I want the focus back on people like MJF, Orange Cassidy and Team Taz
A lot of the ex NXT guys I used to love just aren't interesting in AEW, Andrade is boring, Adam Cole is boring, even Keith Lee is boring, Andrade used to be my favourite in NXT
TK needs more help, no one should book that much wrestling all alone
Orange Cassidy? Lmoa
I’m tired of seeing Adam Cole so damn much, I love him but damn what happened to some of the og roster??
Cody Rhodes is doing much better in WWE. In AEW he was failing hard, and was completely out of touch
ironically when tonight the coin dropped i was immediately sure that omega will come back Sunday by association
A booker and a producer
nice to know im not the only one even though i still love aew
My issue right now is how forgettable and unwatchable most matches are this year. I remember back in 2020 and 2021 there's a lot of matches who became "classic" and really enjoyable to rewatch over and over again. But starting around March 2022, Im starting to lost interest. I stopped watching AEW completely after MJF pipebomb and that's it. I respect those who still stick around, and I wish I didnt offend anyone for saying this.
Yes! I find myself skipping like 50% of matches because many of them now seem to have no purpose. Elevation and Dark are even worse. Nothing matters.
There’s way to many disconnects now and it has only beg exposed now more than ever since Punk, Danielson and MJF are out for however long
Yes. MJF, and the fans reaction to him really rubbed me the wrong way.
It's been tough. I think they need a reset when Kenny, Punk and BD are back
You need to make a video recapping the JB/Chrisitan feud and the long term storytelling that's gone into it.
I agree. The pandemic era of AEW really was a magical time
I think you touched on it but didn't quite finish the point: things are siloed. It used to be the complaint people had about Cody (the "Codyverse") but now it's more prevalent throughout the show. Anything that Jericho touches becomes about Jericho, for example; I don't get the sense that Santana and Ortiz are gonna challenge for the tag titles any time soon.
Omega comes back and some of these other guys and we’ll have potential for big fight feel matches like Bryan/Omega
Thanks for your videos

Dude I don’t know your name nor your face but what I know is I know your voice everyday I check your RUclips videos I was planning today to go twitter and then send you a massage I have exams yet I have the time to check your channel because I listen every video you have I automatically know every line in every video as I’m introvert your videos are my friends I stopped watching wrestling in 2014 and 2019 I began with aew so I’m fan of your storytelling so you better gave me a lots of videos and I’m not apologizing for thaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
Fist bump, to a fellow Introvert. RUclips is as far as we go, for being social. lol
Hhhhh and I want to speak English more comfortably
There is no main character hero or villain.
I 100% agree with you. I am a diehard AEW fan and still feel the same as you. Great video !!
You’re aware that MJF walking out is a work right?
Miro is back now and he makes everything more interesting when he's involved
The Pandemic Era of AEW is still the high point
Crazy
Finally someone giving credit to Cody. It was a big loss and I won’t ever get over it.
So i am not the only one who feel this way.
Just push Ricky starks now Tony ffs
I agree 100% sometimes it feels like everything is disconnected
they need storyline like having The House of Black takeover AEW
Exactly how I feel about the Hangman story. He was right when he said he was protecting AEW.
Amen
I am genuinely hoping Tanahashi would win the title and keeps it until punk or omega’s ready.
Anyone know how long this next Ppv is gonna be I have never gone to a show and don’t know what to expect.
