WCW Thunder 1999 Kevin Nash Does Commentary on Last Night as Booker - DEADLOCK Podcast Retro Review

  • October 14th, 1999 is one of the most historic days in the legacy of WCW Thunder. Vince Russo is on his way to WCW, so this is Kevin Nash’s last night as booker of WCW. Not only that but he is going to join commentary for the entire show. This episode ends up being a master class in wrestling comedy. For better or worse Kevin Nash shoots this entire show and ends up burying most of the roster, however, it’s hilarious. As far as the show goes, Nash says half of the roster didn’t show up so they had to book it on the fly earlier today. La Park comes out to help Buff Bagwell and ends up in the main event tag team match. We do get progression of the Total Package Buff Bagwell feud. You will never predict in a million years how this show ends.

      There was no oversight. Turner put Bill Busch in charge in August and Busch by all accounts was just ready to get out of the job. Ironic because he stooged Eric out to get it.
      Turner Broadcasting wasn't done but they were ready to be. This stuff meant nothing compared to what the execs did.

    I got to hang out with Kevin for an hour backstage at an indy show in 2011 and he was the friendliest, funniest, scariest, weirdest dude I've ever met. I asked to get a pic with him before I left for my bus after the show and he stood up, pulled his pants (trousers for the bruvs) down, sat back down and gestured to me to come sit next to him for the pic. 😂
    I think I might be one of the only people who has a picture with Kevin Nash in a Singlet as a result of the weird choice he made. Also shout out to Bad Bones John Klinger who passed away, he was there too. Great guy. Slapped me once. I deserved it. 😅

      You are being optimistic and thinking too far ahead. They barely even scratched (more like refused to watch) the Super Cena era yet. There is a good chance that they will end up reviewing every single Attitude era and the adjacent WCW episodes than regularly reviewing the more recent stuff.

    • @sosamanotf642
      @sosamanotf642 Месяц назад +1

      @@IsaacSperrowisnt 06-08 the Super Cena era? They’ve reviewed quite a bit of those shows.

    • @IsaacSperrow
      @IsaacSperrow Месяц назад +1

      @@sosamanotf642 I meant they are still actively avoiding Cena era, despite the early parts of it are almost 20 years old already. Yes, we are that old. They will always opted to do TNA from that period rather than WWE.
      Super Cena era is more like 2006-2010 and the general Cena era is around 2006-2011/2012. The proper transition point (they tried for a couple of years with Swagger, Sheamus, Miz, Ziggler, Sandow etc etc but Vince failed them) was the FCW-early NXT breakthrough wrestlers by becoming regulars on the show, "lead" by Bryan's own breakthrough to the top of the card.
      Funny part is considering how much they love to glaze Jericho and Punk, 2011 to 2013 has a lot of good stuff for those two, despite of their (valid) personal frustration with how they were booked. So it can also be an interesting talking point too if they review those years. Alas, they are avoiding it.

    • @sosamanotf642
      @sosamanotf642 Месяц назад +1

      @@IsaacSperrow ehhh, they never really give that era a chance anyways.

    • @IsaacSperrow
      @IsaacSperrow Месяц назад +1

      @@sosamanotf642 Its good for them too in terms of not catching heat. 2012 onwards might be too close for most people to not have strong feelings about things. Its easier to make fun of TNA from that period because its legitimately ridiculous how much they fumble, and less people watched them. Making jokes about the Shield or team Hell No might not be funny to some people that love them. Marks are marks after all.

    Nash doing NFL films was great cause the sound guys fucked up cause its WCW but like the Goldberg Sid fued was actually good and the fact Russo botched it was the 1st truly bad thing he did as booker of wcw. Goldbergs 2nd ever loss was on his 2nd nitro in charge, Sid immediately becomes an idiot goes from cutting good promos to well winning worse on promos for 99. Like Sid Goldberg probably shouldve main evented that starrcade.
