Buck vs FTR is such a fascinating case of modern day character alignments. On the surface, Bucks are heel, FTR are face. But then you realize FTR are career heels, and Bucks are the faces in their redDragon feud when it concerns Hangman. And FTR are heels when it concerns MJF. Neither team has changed a bit but none of this is jarring or contradictory, its just natural progression

He earned Regal’s respect by not backing down after getting slapped.
He went toe to toe with Danielson to prove his technical skill
And he fought Moxley to demonstrate his viciousness and brutality.
It’s a simple story, but it does tell you everything you need to know about the group and how they work. You get the “invitation” but you still need to live up to their standards. Prove you have the courage, the skill and the spirit to get in

I look at the Lucha Bros the way evidently a lot of people see FTW: as unquestionably the best tag team running.
But I think there's a huge gap in most people lists of favorites and that's TH2. They have an absolutely uncanny ability to fight a seasoned, established main event tag team like the Lucha Bros, Bucks, or FTR, and it'll look amazing. But they can also go with a green tag team like Top Flight when they first arrived, and still make those kids look like stars. That's a real skill, and real heart, to put a younger talent over, especially when they're green and you're patching over their botches in real time. Not to mention, TH2 are so honed at their characters, they pull heel heat just coming out of the tunnel. Most teams have to do something nefarious during the match to get heat, Angelico in particular has the part of the sleazy heel established as he dances down to the ring, that's straight up uncanny.

I’m an AEW guy and have seen every episode but honestly tranquilo is such a mark lol. The latest episode of Dynamite was almost unwatchable with the exception of the FTR match.
As someone who desperately wants this company to succeed, I think that taking a step back as a content creator to objectively assess the product is important in defining its longevity. The Adam’s feud is a heatless, drawn out mess. Page as a champion brings nothing narratively. The best part of the show is usually Punk or MJF and even they feel a little lost in the shuffle.

FTR's slow Baby face turn is something that isn't talked about enough, this was handled in the most awesome way, and it wasn't sudden it was slow and calculated which is very unique, quite similar to Kenny Omega's slow heel turn when he started presenting himself as a big deal before a match symbolizing his inevitable heel turn which happened against Jon Moxley at Revolution....So FTR being presented as these hard working top class tag team good guys is really cool. am really digging it....Btw the video content is epic as always my guy, keep it up that Avatar and Goodfellas comparison was topnotch lol.

The sanctimonious, narcissistic heel who thinks he's a face is one of the oldest tropes in wrestling.

AEW has matches you'll be talking about for weeks while WWE has matches with literally no sensible build or importance, even for the top-tier titles. It will last throughout the show and die once it gets off the air and when everyone at the arena makes it to their respective modes of transportation home or hotel rooms. WWE is scared of AEW's rise that they have to bring back Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg to save them. All 3 years of AEW's existence has proven this.

The match was a great start for Yuta, but the important thing comes next. Can he keep momentum, deliver good matches and hold character believably when on his own? Because when in the ring with Mox or Danielson, that is easy(er). The Mox match was a launch pad, but Yuta has to be able to stand alone to be a true star in the end. Otherwise he'll end up as just a part of a faction that is over. I'm really looking forward to see if he can do it. I'm rooting for him for sure, because he seems like a cool and talented guy.
On a side not, I think he should really bulk up a little. He looks kinda lost amongst the rest of the BCC. And maybe change the gear to something less indy-looking. But that's just my opinion, of course.

    • @rossclutterbuck1060
      @rossclutterbuck1060 2 года назад

you can understand where Vince is coming from in his demented, twisted, sociopathic, paranoid (and possibly CTE affected) mind: every time he's invested millions (AND MILLIONS) of dollars and hours of TV time to create mega stars, they've all taken his money and fucked off to do their own thing.
      Immediate examples:
Hogan took his mainstream recognition to WCW, and help revitalise the company to such an extent WWF was battered in the ratings for 83 weeks, losing money hand-over-fist in the process.
The Rock's career didn't even last a decade before moving to Hollywood, and Vince doesn't get a dime from that unless Dwayne grants WWE half hour of his time here and there.
Brock Lesnar had the entire WWE machine behind him and decided he just didn't want to bother after only 3 years.
So honestly, if you've been burned time and again, why would you invest so much time in individuals? Surely it's a safer option to make WWE as a whole the attraction, not any one name inside it?
Of course, this attitude has completely tanked the overall quality of the product, but that's a different conversation.

I will give credit where credit is due. Wrestlemania was for the most part fun. Well up until the main event of night 2...ugh.
But Tony Khan gave us 3 match of the year contenders over an 8 day span.
At ROH's first show under Tony Khan we got a dream match in FTR vs Brisco's. I could say dream tag team match but regardless of how many competitors it was a dream match. I had said its more than likely match of the year. But that wouldn't stop people in AEW from trying to top it. Fast forward to Wednesday and we got Young Bucks vs FTR II. And then 2 days later Jon Moxley vs Yuta Wheeler.
Yuta Wheeler shows the basic fundamental difference between the fan bases. In WWE, if a young star loses against the top stars too many times despite showing improvement he is deemed a failure. In almost every other promotion the fans start to respect him. And know they are seeing a star of the future. I'm not gonna lie, I respected his talent but just didn't see what Tony Khan and company saw in him. Why was he aligned with Orange Cassidy? I saw it after his match with Bryan Danielson. And I dam sure saw it after his match with Jon Moxley.

    Major props.
