Hey Scotty you say the Canadians build such great cars both of those Chryslers are built in Canada
Hi Scotty,
Im in a lucky/weird position where my neighbour is unable to drive anymore and I might be able to purchase his 2015 Lexus ES, only 38,000 Km for 15ish thousand. My first car was a 03 Lexus RX so I know how reliable they can be. My question to you is should I hold on to the ES or use the value in the car and trade the car towards a newer 2020 Corolla. Love the vids!
VW and Ford have been doing a lot of work together on electric vehicle platforms but everytime Ford worked with VW on joint technology, VW stole all kinds of technology from Ford and this happened several times since the 80s. I hope Ford got the upper hand this time.
Can you tell me why Toyota dont import Toyota mark X into the country?
I have a Dodge Avenger 130k miles. No problems still shifts like a dream. Sure it might not be easy for mechanic to work on and it’s got its cheap plastic parts like any car from 2008 but it’s not a bad car. You still see them on the road more then the Dart.
The horror when you took your car to Scotty and he featured it on his video as one of the worst cars to buy.
Man this needs more likes
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Even worse, you buy a used car, and the next week that make/model is featured in Scotty's worst to buy video.
Is it yours? Just wondering. I've got two vehicles he says don't buy, and I hate them both. VW Bug, my wifes , Dodge Ram, me. I hadn't found this site when we purchased them. :(
@@inthemaze7441 Funny. Mine is also a Dodge Ram.
A friend of mine worked for VW as a mechanic and convinced me to buy a Camry. To this day I thank him
Camry... Just another soul less car for the clueless masses. I will never forget the look on the guys face when I passed his Challenger SXT at 126 mph, a few yrs. ago down the highway with my Fiat 500L. Fiats are like children. You break them in well. Treat them well and it will love you back. Sadly, big, fat footed, and uncaring people rag them out only to complain..😉

Any way, my granddaughter needed a vehicle, so I sold it to her for 5Gs. She is loving it. Now if I can sell my 2018 Tiguan for what I owe, which is even faster, I'll keep my Wrangler and Tesla. Might even be able to retire....🙂

Had a 2011 VW Tiguan. Really enjoyed the car. Fun to drive and was dependable up to a point. Once it turned 100K, repairs were outrageously expensive. Almost made it to 200,000 miles, but the engine finally gave. Ended up junking it. Due to the crazy costs to maintain it, I don’t think I’ll ever buy another VW.
Same here. had a 2012 VW CC. Funniest car to drive but maintenance is a pain.

The only one that was decent was a older dodge Dakota sport with a 318 and standard transmission but the motor did die at about 179,000 miles. The ram rusted the 1st winter and it was a brand new truck. You know what the dodge dealer said oh you drive it in water more than 3 inches 🤣🤣. The truck was never driven in water like that, but hey a anything so they didn't have to fix it. They knew they were junk then and that was in 2002 their worse now.

VW is not the ,"People's Car" any longer. And they haven't been for a long time.
The electric one will be.
@@Perich29 not if it’s built to the current standards

Instead of 100k miles, wait until 200k miles. Time will tell if a car can hold up to 200k. If it holds up well at 200k, then it can last up to 300k or more. Keeping up with maintenance certainly helps out a lot.
Hey i have a 2006 Jetta mk5 std , runs fine ! 204534 Miles on it 😅

I have a 2003 GTI VR6 as my daily driver for 19 1/2 years now, and the only thing that broke was a cooling fan, and an MAF sensor (just a few weeks ago) and I replaced the brake pads twice! It is a 6-speed manual, so the transmission has never had any issues. Never even had to replace a clutch once! This car has been amazingly 'indestructable'! BUT, it is 'hit or miss' with VW's, I know.
Scotty. I bought my wife a very low miles 2010 VW Touareg a few yrs back. Now has 150k mi. And the only "repair" it's ever needed was $35 ignition coil last summer that I did in the AutoZone parking lot. I also have a 2007 Audi A4 quattro 3.2 V6. 260,000 mi. And it's my daily driver still. All the bells and whistles work flawlessly and it runs and drives great
I gave my 1999 A4 Avant 2.8 Quattro to my daughter at 175,000. Now with 220,000 major repairs have been catalytic converter replacement - from wear, not theft.
FCA 3.6L Pentastar engine is one of the most reliable engines made. Many of these engines can last up to 500,000 miles. 2011 -2012 years had a problem with the left head which has been long remedied. Personally I have a 2013 Chrysler van with the 3.6 with 160,000 miles and it has been the best car I have owned . 2nd best car I have owned was a 2002 Lexus es300 that had 175,000 miles and ran almost like new.
Yup you're correct Chrysler had a recall on the heads dropping valve seats but they fixed that and those engines are very reliable
I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica with the 3.6 liter Pentastar engine. Excellent vehicle. 40k miles drives like new. You se on the internet Dodge Ram delivery vans with the 3.6 liter that have over 500k miles on them. Scotty hates Chrysler for no reason.

My old boss who i served my time with had a 1987 VW passat estate diesel. Twenty years later the car was still emaculate, pristine and he still got 70 miles to the gallon.

LOL - I love that window fix. I actually had the same thing done on an old Buick Centry that i was getting ready to sell and the new purchaser said he didn't care if the window worked so long as it stayed up. I didn't have time to mess with it myself so I took it to the nearest shop and told them " don't replace the motor - I don't care if the window doesn't work. Just take the wire - un wind it from the motor, put the window fully up then fix the wire to the inside of the door on something. You should be able to just wrap it around the door frame. " - the lady working the counter looked at me like I had three heads and said they probably wouldn't be able to do that so i asked politely if I could explain it to the mechanic who'd be doing it. He came up and knew exactly what I wanted right off the bat. Got it fixed - cost maybe $30 for their time and new owner happily drove it off from the shop.

It's a pretty durable vehicle, we've been rear-ended by a Focus and hit two deer. Technically, it's totaled from the Focus, but it is 100% safe to drive and we have been for 5 years since. I've had the EGR valve fail once, an alternator once, and two radiators fail from the deer impact. Still runs like a champ, cruises down the road nice and smooth, straight as an arrow.
The woman sold it to us because a) it was 10 years old, and that was her late husband's "plan" to replace every vehicle once it reached that age, and b) it kept throwing random misfire codes. We bought it for $250 (the cost of two brand-new rear tires) and the random misfire code has never come back since we bought it. We don't buy our gas at BJs Wholesale Club, and that appears to be the sole cause.
She probably drives like a grandma tho
She has it taken of most don't take care them so that's why they fall apart
Well my 2007 vw rabbit has over 140000 miles and STILL going strong

@11:44 i would go no further till you test or change that battery. low voltage will wreak havoc on any one of the cars computers, engine, or transmission. heck, the battery might even be good, but there is a bad ground, or a bad battery terminal or clamp, etc.
Absolutely. The voltage may be OK but it can still fail the load test and that's critical.
Yup it's most likely a battery but we don't load test batteries there's a much better way to test them
I must agree about new Passats. 20 years ago here in Poland 1.9 tdi passat was a dream of every Polish dad. My inlaws have one with about 275k miles and it is still running. But new passats, almost everyone stays away from them in a country where we used to call them passerattis.
SUCH A CHARITABLE SCOTTY! WELL DONE--- I appreciate praise as a disguise and cover for a shiv. Beetles were damn near bulletproof, and the early Rabbit / Golf models from the early 70s had some oomph and were a blast to rocket around in. Somewhere VW seems to have lost something that it didn't gain from Porsche or Audi. It is a sad loss. cheers
Lol no wonder those German engineers are laughing themselves all the way to the bank.👈👍🤣😂🤣
@MechanicForPeople this sounds exactly like something Scotty would say
Actually German engineers are poorly paid and have 0 wage growth in exchange for cradle to grave jobs ....its the German Bilderbeg executives that laugh to the bank...the Dieselgate scandal shows Geeman auto companies like avW are probably the most corrupt.
I bought a Mercedes thinking it would have the same quality as my grandfather's old Benz. What a colossal mistake. The engine blew up at 70K. Finally the transmission failed at 90K. My friends have experienced worse problems with Audi and BMW. That was the last German car I will ever buy.
German cars are actually cheap to repair here in europe. Parts are cheap. And they are the most reliable bulletproof cars there are. It just depends on where you live lol. And buying a car is always a gamble, even the most reliable cars can be moneypits if the previous owner didnt care.
@@Strondjong Here in Australia and America they are the real moneypit. Because here we're drove it longer distance and hard on higher RPM than you guy's do Europe.

VW I had
98 Jetta glx. 2.8l n/a 6cyl. 172hp Best it up to 126k miles. Put a turbo kit on the stock engine. Dyno 361hp 365tq. Drove it up to 145k miles. My brother drove it to 160k miles then sold it. All original engine. No major repairs. Every button worked
Right now I have 07 Audi A4 2.0t everything works, 07 gli 2.0t Apr stage 2 ecu, 3” downpipe, coilovers and 19” wheels etc. only replace a ac compressor. 08 Q7 3.6 165 mile. Ac vent models only problem on the old girl. 2017 Audi A4 Allroad premium plus. 90k miles. Flawless. Some owners don’t know what they getting into and some tech just won’t admit they don’t have the tools or knowledge to service your VW/audi/Porsche/Bentley, or Bugatti.

I have an avenger with the 3.6L V6. Bought it new in 2014. Been the only owner. Maintain it regularly. So far > 150k miles with no goofy or major issues. Maybe I am just lucky.
I had a 2011 VW Golf 2.5L w/Manual. Drove it with 200K miles only thing I had to replace (not maintenance) was the front wheel hubs.
My 2017 Passat is by far the best car I've ever owned. Over 100,000 miles and has never needed a single repair. Still has the original brakes, probably another 25,000 miles left on those. It uses less than 1/2 quart of oil between changes. Rides and drives as good as when new- no squeaks or rattles. This is my second VW in the past 8 years and both were reliable and completely trouble free.
I'm rather sick of hearing about how wonderful Toyotas are. Toyotas have zero personality. And I'm not buying Scotty's claims that they are the only reliable cars out there.
People aren't just making this stuff up though. VW has built this bad reputation of ownership (US cars) already aside from Scotty's channel. I think you may have been one of the lucky ones, so congrats.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I have a 2010 Jetta with 138k only done regular maintenance.
VW’s are garbage. It’s the electronic issues that bugged me.
I've had 5 vw's: 72 super beetle (easy to work on), old karman ghia, 417 I think it was called( a station wagon sort of thing ; paid 25$ for it. 94 jetta good car except for plastic engine connectors and 92 golf gti 5 speed. Great little car. Got 385,000km on golf and jetta. Most maintenance done by me.
Hans So in other words you can say you literally built a Volkswagen. Not something I'd be proud of.
The Volkswagens you mentioned are all good cars !notice the years you're talking about my friend..... Everything built before 93 was awesome. Your 94 was good . You start getting up in the late 90s early 2000s I feel that it's completely different story
My 92 16v GTI has 193k. Modern gas is not kind to the fuel pump, been through 2 distributors, 2 radiators and dog house coolers, 3 wheel bearings, some tune ups, lower engine seal, trans bushings, over last 23 years I owned it.
I bought a 2000 Cabro recently. Runs like a dream.
honestly, the Passat is a great realiable car here in Europe, but i'm suspecting as Scotty pointed out that it's a quality issue of NA and dealerships back there
You should do 3 decent cars
coming up!

@@scottykilmer surprised you don't talk much about the Hyundai engine recalls from 2011-2019.
@@guidedbygreen1480 if you watch his news videos he mentions them
The window regulator happened to me in a 2012 Sentra. I got a replacement on a junkyard for $35, but sure it's a pain in the butt to get it replaced...
My son owned a 1999 VW Jetta. While he was studying in another country, I sometimes drove his car. One morning I pulled out of the driveway to go to work. Snow on the roof slide forward and down the windshield while the wipers were working. The wipers stopped and the wiper motor stripped out, requiring replacement of the motor. I don’t recall the cost, but I never had that happen with any other car. He sold it and got a Honda.
I wouldn't buy a Toyota either, I had 3 of the rolling POS. A 1992 truck a 1999 Corolla and a 2001 Corolla. At around 80,000 miles all started burning more oil than gas. And the Toyota pickup the clutch went out at 100,000. I worked for a company that made Toyota parts and I can say they have many of the same problems that other companies have, Toyota is just very good at hiding problems. The only two Toyota's you might consider are the Pruis and the 4 runner, both are made in Japan.
Well.. In EU VW is very good. My Bora (Jetta) VR5 made 380.000 km and 19 years before I sold it.
In Europe they're built way better but not in the us
Thank you soo much for your input on modern cars and the problems associated with them. I learned from you Toyota and Honda are the best.
1,200 to fix some windshield wipers....I would be so pissed 😂
So would I
@Barry Soetorro really?? I didn't even know they have that stuff!?
It sounds awesome but when I think "ok if that sensor breaks my windshield wipers are f*cked" it suddenly doesn't sound to impressive. (I'll stick to the old school version; "eye sensors" to tell if its raining lol)
I owned a VW rabbit in the early 1990's. I was a mechanic and i literally could not keep that POS running, It was an auto trans, the one part that never gave trouble, but when the engine got hot it would not start! Also the electrical system was the absolute worst, relays upon relays, just waiting to rust out or just fail in general and leave you stranded. For 2 long expensive years I had it until my dad took pity on me and lent me $4000 for a 1983 Nissan Sentra and the difference was night and day. Drove the Sentra 150,000 miles. A clutch, one headlight and routine timing belt is all i ever did to it and really sold me on Tokyo tin for life. Have owned 3 nissans and 2 toyotas since then and all the cars combined problems did not exceed the repairs on the Rabbit malfunctioned in an average month.
I had a TDI Passat like that. Sold it at 115k miles, with the AC only issue I've had. The usual MPG was over 45 on highway.
You save us a fortune by telling us these secrets..Thank you!
The “Italian impression “ hahahahaha!
and the German one "YOU MUST OBEY!!!"
A friend of mine had a diesel Passat that lasted 350000 miles over the course of many years. But I had a gasoline Passat and it was a lemon. It was a great car, but only on the days when it worked. There weren't enough of those days.
Older Passats do last, especially with the 1.8T and 1.9 TDI engines. Some of the best engines VW ever made.
Just change the oil regularly and they're fine. Or, you don't even have to do that, my uncle did 60k km on a diesel VW with the same oil and it didn't skip a beat.
I don't want zippy and sporty. I want bland and reliable.
Amen!!
@@jamesvandamme7786 If you just bought it, how do you know it's "reliable"?
@@jamesvandamme7786 Hopefully YOURS in particular will be.
The 3rd part of this video is why I stick at crank windows
Uhm idk about what Volkswagens you got there in the US but the ones we have here do last over 500.000km or 300.000miles easily
Nisti
Yeah bc of what Scotty said about German VW’s being better made
That and Americans are lazy and if you are lazy with VW they will cost you. That's why Scott pushes Hondas and Toyota because even with a lazy owner they don't seem to fail. A good owner that does their own maintenance will easily make a VW last. My 2009 2.5 jetta has 165k and runs great.
I find Scotty’s videos entertaining, educational and very depressing. Every vehicle I have purchased over the last 45 years is on his list of complete piles of junk.
Hopefully you pick women better
My girl owned a 2003 Dodge Caravan and sold it when it reached 335,000 miles. Burned a little oil but it ran great. Didn't fall apart and only needed regular maintenance. I would buy a Caravan again for sure! You can't convince me they are junk.
Thank God my sister in law leased hers
the 3.6 isnt a bad engine at all if you take care of it. of course i like toyotas for reliability more but the pentastar is a pretty good engine. my friend has 287k miles on one and its still running pretty good.
I remember when VW and Chrysler products were good cars years ago. My 67 barracuda with a 273 V8 was a great car and reliable. Even my VW rabbit diesel was awesome! 50 mpg.
When we were car shopping in 2014 I had it narrowed down to a Camry or a Passat since they were the two mid-sized cars with the best back seat headroom. We chose the Camry because the middle seat in the Passat had a floor hump like a rear wheel drive car. I'm so glad that we did. I''ve got 289,500 km on it now with minimal repairs. My hope is that it lasts until the last kid leaves home when it will probably have 450,000 km. Since it is a Camry I figure that hope is not unreasonable.
I love Scotty, he always guarantees to make me smile and laugh
