I love this channel. Thank you for posting tonite. This day as it is every year is very hard for me. Eleven years ago today I lost my beautiful daughter. My first born. She was just 39. I'm glad I saw your post tonite. It helped soothe me. Thank you & God bless.❤
I'm so sorry for your loss. Dec will be 2yrs since I lost my husband. I know how much it helps to find something to take your mind off of things even for a little. Big hugs. ❤
Whenever I watch these videos I want to whisk them both away to all their hearts’ desires…because their content of simplicity and plain living wipes away all the confusion of our current age. Oh to live like that again. Fulfilling days. ❤️
Every time I watch you prepare meals as in the olden days I really appreciate the things that help us cook and save time today. Thanks to you and Mr. Ron with your re-enactments.
I’m having a rough night too. My cat unexpectedly died two nights ago and I’m in pain. As usual this channel is the right balance of engrossing and soothing. Especially enjoyed the meower.
Always looking for something different. Especially with Thanksgiving coming up. I’m going to make the apple tart. Thanks for sharing Justine. Bless to you and Ron
This is such a fascinating look into the past! 🍂🍴 Cooking dinner as they would have in 1828 is a great way to step back in time and appreciate the simplicity and resourcefulness of life back then. The fall season must have been full of hearty, comforting meals, made with whatever was in season. It’s incredible to see how much history can be reflected in the food and the way it’s prepared. Such a unique and educational experience! 👏✨
Everything was just as I remembered my great grandmother Melissa making. She passed it on to my grandma Hilda, who taught me. Then I cooked these for my daughter and now we are teaching my grandchildren! I'm so happy that my daughter has embraced the old ways and wants her children to learn as well.❤ And both grandchildren (a girl and a boy) enjoy cooking and learning recipes 😊.
Oh I love this channel love to watch you cook love the crackling event, fire and all the surroundings. Can’t wait to see what you’re gonna do for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
A great evening dinner for two. Candles lit and dinner ready. Thanksgiving is close. Your house is closer to be moving in. Winter coming. Get out blankets in garage. Ive gotta try the potatoe balls I had to watch 2022 3 pumpkins pies you two made. Great episode!
I absolutely love your videos and watch them all the time and now a new one thanks for bringing so much joy just by cooking and looking fantastic hope there will be more recipes in the future maybe some other countries recipes like scandinavian food since a lot of swedish foreigners came to america during the 19th century ❤️❤️❤️
Ya! Mish Mish get up to the table for some yum! He is a talker, that is the sign of a smart cat! I love how you just stick to the cooking with no talking! it is such a nice break from all the noise.
Thank you so much Justine. I would like to know how you clean everything up after you finish cooking? Might make an interesting video....or not! I just cannot imagine all the effort it would take to get all the provisions needed to make this simple meal, and how skilled and careful the cook (Justine) has to be not to burn herself or burn the cabin down. (God forbid!). And then as I mentioned the washing up! Yikes! I would like to ad that your videos are very informative, fun, ('and make sure you chop them as violently as possible"), and yes, calming. May Our Lord bless you and your dear husband Ron and family. xo
the sweet potato balls look amazing- and I think we are going to try the apple tart- very different than anything I have ever had - and we have a million apples and sweet potatoes always looking for interesting recipes from the past (collect cookbooks from the 1920's thru the 1970's) because we went back to good natural foods and they have the best recipes- love your channels- and btw you look like you are feeling better- so glad
My dad and I were just talking about what you were making and if you knew the chicken recipe from colonial williamsburg 😂 I love this stuff! Thank you!
I don't know it but I know that the staff there are super open about just giving you the recipe if you ask them. In fact they usually have printouts of their recipes ready for those who ask. Especially for the permanent dishes on their menu.
@@EarlyAmericanomg I wish I'd known that when I went! I had this heavenly pot roast there. A recipe from the late 1700s I think they said. I've tried for ages to recreate it but just can't and nothing ever tastes like it
ALREADY SUBSCRIBED TO FRONTIER AMERICAN AN THEN THIS POPPED UP😅...I ❤THIS...ABSOLUTELY JUST L❤VE THIS...KEEPIN' AMERICA'S GOOD OL' TRADITIONS ALIVE AN WELL🤣
Wow what a feast! Apple Deserts make such a wonderful compliment to Pork dishes, and those Sweet Potato Fritters look really tasty.... Too bad they didn't have Shake-N-Bake back in 1820 for those Chops... Great job chef Justine!
Dinner looks great! I thought you were making applesauce to go with those chops and when you added the egg I was like what in the heck is she making?? LOL 😊
😅 i’m glad i found u awhile back. Looked amazing 😋. Now that i know almost what cookware they used i been purchasing it 😁. My plan when i buy a house i must have a fireplace 🔥. Thank u for sharing ✨🇺🇸
I can't really say anything in addition to what everyone else has said it was a wonderful video and good looking food thank you for taking the time Glad to see MishMish
Justine, the meal looked so delicious! I like to cook my pork in some apple juice or watered down apple cider. The liquid flavors the meat and the pork flavors the juice, then I use that liquid to make my pork gravy, using flour and butter rue. I had similar sweet potato balls last Thanksgiving, only they were formed around a large marshmallow…oh, and baked, not fried……rolled in corn flakes, omg…..sssssoooooo good. Secret spice they used was pumpkin pie spice. I started watching the chew & chat…about 5 minutes in, I said to myself, I need to watch Justine make it first……so, here I am…..now to the chew & chat again.
Don't ever let butter make you feel guilty. The sweet potato balls look like something that should be made again and put in food trucks or something. Delicious!
Great channel. Love the hearth. I'm certain that it could be physically taxing and at times hazardous as you have an open fire, heavy pots and water had to be transported if you didn't have a well or nearby source of water.
Thanks for watching from the beautiful Czech Republic! I visited Prague as a little girl and still remember it as being one of the most beautiful places on earth.
The cat says, I don't get enough attention, put me outside ha ha. I always wonder how difficult it was to clean the bowls back then. I know not everyone had a close water source and wells weren't 100 percent dependent. Amazing looking supper.
New sub!! Been watching awhile! Im sure in that time frame, there's a small farm to go along with that awesome cooking! Do you think you would like to add Nigeria dwarf goats for milk and cheese? I've seen your chicken's on other episodes!
Ty for another lovely escape from 'today'. Look forward to every video! But i must tell u,,, i Sure did miss the background sounds for some reason. God Bless❤

Truly a perfect meal for autumn! It sounds so good considering how cold and windy it's been where I live! Another home run, Justine! 😋

Ive made sweet potato balls like that, except the balls were formed around marshmallows. Delicious! Your Apple Tart looks amazing!
Those are ssssoooo yummy. I had them for the first time last Thanksgiving.
I love your videos. I click "like" before I even watch it because I know it's going to be good.
First, I LOVE your blue and white stripped dress, and the black checkered apron. Super cute. The food looks delish …you had me at potato ball!👍🏻❤️
Why is it even time I watch your videos I get hungry? Awesome meal.
Don't feel guilty about the butter. I love it!
You are looking lovely as ever, Justine! And the food looks awesome … I’m continually surprised at how well people are back then!
I bet there were some good cooks and some bad ones. Husbands probably felt lucky with a wife that could cook well.
