I love watching people’s sketchbook tours because seeing what some people think “is not so good” looks SO GOOD IN MY EYES, it makes me feel better about things I title as ‘not so good’ cause it reminds me I’m just going really hard on myself
That’s not a sketchbook. It’s publication design, art object, stage prop &c. A sketchbook is the thing that’s full of all the garbage that *doesn’t* get shown. It’s where you develop the ideas that actually *do* make it to the exhibition. When it’s premeditated to the tune of _“This will make great social media content!”_ it’s not a sketchbook. It’s a calculated design object. Sketchbook should be barely above napkin and envelope. Re _“hard on your self,”_ that’s not the problem. The problem is giving anyone on social media even a millisecond of mindshare, and comparing yourself to them. It’s what’s known as (self inflicted) status anxiety. Like the way I used to wish I was one of the “popular kids,” until one day my therapist helped me understand _“Why would anyone want to be friends with the people who make them cry?”_ If you can learn to recognize the context for what it is, not only will these people never make you sad again, they’ll literally lack the capacity to hurt you. at which point being _“hard on your self”_ is moot.
Omg I really love how the colors harmonize in your paintings!! What a nice sketchbook tour experience. This motivated me to finish mine too 🥲 You are so creative, Amber!! Just keep going with ur art
i like how you talk about the boredom that can come with sketchbooking. i've been an artist for decades and when i was a kid i just drew for fun. i had sketchbooks but to me it was just paper to draw on - i had no concept of what a "sketchbook" was in terms of a finite body of work taking place over a specified period of time (long or short). i had no concept of "idea development" or "practice" the way i see people talk about sketchbooks in art classes and on social media. i grew up in a super small town with no money and really just pencils. i didn't really know about paint or pastels or anything else until i was in my late 20s and early 30s. i've always enjoyed being creative but one thing i've never been able to do is commit to a sketchbook practice. i don't know if it's that i haven't found my groove in terms of what kinds of art make me want to return to it every day or a handful of days a week. I only pull out my sketchbooks when i need to, for a class, or when i'm swatching colours because colour makes me happy. so yeah - i appreciate you talking about boredom and how you ran out of desire to keep working in that book about halfway through because whenever i see people's amazing sketchbooks (and yours is amazing, btw) i don't really ever hear people talk about how difficult it is to commit to a sketchbook or a sketchbook practice.
Such gorgeous pieces and sketchbook as a whole! While the mod podge problems are so too bad, its so nice to see that sketchbooks aren't perfect, they can be raw and full of experiments, materials, and its okay if it doesn't totally work out all the time, I dunno its so freeing to see! So thank you for sharing ♥
Your self portrait in incredible! I love everything you posted! It makes me intimidated since I am brand new (at 31) to drawing & painting. I know it will take a lot of time & practice to get to your level but I appreciate you sharing!
This is how my art school sketchbook looked. I hates it so much and myself for making shabby sketchbooks. Looking back now these are so important they come with emotions and stories with each page. I see that in your style and im so happy. i wish i was kinder and prouder of my old self. What a curse it is to be an artist
Beautiful sketchbook. If you want to keep your pages from sticking together you can use some cheap translucent face powder. Not sure it's archival but I feel if my little paintings are getting ruined from sticking together anyway there's not much to lose.
I absolutely love your artstyle. I have an a6 sketchbook that I am about to start using and this inspired me to work on it. Not a fan of small sketchbooks so lets see how it goes
You really should rename your channel in «Amber the Great» because your drawings and small paintings are wonderfully playful, colorful and very creatively composed. You have a very rich design repertoire. 😍
I love your freedom of expression! You just let your creativity flow throughout the pages. You inspired me to surrender myself to Art again. My perfectionist self often leads to self sabotage that’s why I haven’t been creating for a while but your video gave me the sparks again,, Thank you Amber❤️
I use Yes or dormand wax medium to cover my pages. They work great in keeping pages from sticking. Who is the artist you mentioned, did you say Mags Monroe or Max Monroe, is it monroe or munroe?
It’s an app where everyone can post reference pictures as well as the art you made out of them! This is the link to my profile in there: museumapp.co/amberhernandez I hope i cleared this out for you but lmk if you need more information!
Hey!! I loveee this, is the Sketch at 8:40 a reference to mexican post-punk/new wave group Size? If not but you like goth music you should check them out! Your art is sooo goodddd
honestly idk what's up with your mod podge! I'm using mat one in my sketchbook and altho the pages stick together a bit they separate quite easily and they never glue to the other one...
Thank you so much! I actually have never been to any formal art school, I started to draw when I was 12 or 13 (2020) and haven’t stopped since then, basically I be drawing pretty much everyday. I also watch a lot of videos of other artists doing their craft, it has helped me quite a lot :))

Loved to go through your sketchbook together :) you are very funny. If you want to feel some more freedom to do what you want maybe try to channel the anger you feel about that frustration into something? That’s would I would do :) 🩵
More like amber so great cause this is good

Every single page you showed, was an absolute delight💕 The art you showed inspired me to take my journal and draw.
I love your sketchbook so much, the colours and textures :>

You’re so right, each page has a unique emotion or memory attached to it and it is so beautiful. I think being an artist is also an amazing blessing 🌞

I suggest to use a spray finish for your artwork, so it will not stick and ruin the piece! Or either use baking paper, it works between pages
You are so talented wowww I’m inspired
This is making me want to get back into watercolor all your work is just so so lovely
