    if anyone watches this add a FUSE as close as possible to the + on the battery, the reason why it was sparking when testing is because it was been earthed out and wasn't fused, so it will burn your house down if not fused when it fails.

    If I didn't need the float charger could I just use the ecotech cable and wire it directly to the battery with terminals? Also how would I know the positive and negative wire on that cable once cut?

    I went with the smaller lawnmower battery from Amazon. When I tested it after first installing, everything worked. During an outage last year, the Ecotech pumps would cycle white/red/green indicating a bad battery. Swapped the battery for a new one, tested good, same thing during an outage last night. What am I missing ? LED on the charger is almost always green

    • @dbr_reef340
      @dbr_reef340  4 года назад

      I don't know exactly what battery you used, but if it is indeed a lawnmower battery then that may be your problem- it may not be designed to be drawn down. you also might have a bad float charger- try checking the voltage on your battery. could also be wired backwards

    Would this work for a 200 series Maxspect Gyre?

    • @dbr_reef340
      @dbr_reef340  6 лет назад

      Yes it will, although you will have to use a different DC plug size, and I am not sure what it is. I usually take one of those all and one acdc adapters and try the different plug sizes to figure out the size. You will also need a Y adapter to plug both the power adapter for the pump and the battery backup into- the tunze ones might work if they are the right size for a off the shelf option. part 6105.50. I don't think icecap sells them separately, and even if they do, I think they might build the relay into the battery backup, and not in the y cable like tunze. I think ecotech builds it into the controller- basically you do not want 24v going to a 12v battery. If you want to truely diy it you need to replicate this photobucket.com/gallery/user/rosscopeco/media/cGF0aDovUDMwNDAyMDcuanBn/?ref= the parts are about $8

    Question .for the Ups can't you just add a bigger batter or add another to double the vh and get the same out come if u plug the hole mp to the back up power side ??

      do you mean plug the mp power adapter into the 120v plug on the UPS?

    • @daweihuang9687
      @daweihuang9687 4 года назад

      my question too. apparently in a bulkreefsupply video they tested a ups vs vortech. The power inverter wasted a TON of power and the bigger UPS system ran out before the smaller. I think in this video he bypasses it somehow when he talks about the 12v battery to a 12v pump, no intverter needed. Im just listening to the video. but that part is the key.

  • @StNovaSt

    Ok so a few quick questions.
    1. I plug the UPS in like normal after?
    2. How do I regulate charging?
    3. How do I power the wavemaker? Directly off the UPS instead of its power adapter?

    • @dbr_reef340
      @dbr_reef340  3 года назад +1

      1. Yes
      2. The UPS does that for you
      3. Use the wavemakers power supply- you only want the wavemaker powered through the battery if power fails- the wavemaker will automatically switch over

    • @StNovaSt
      @StNovaSt 3 года назад

      @@dbr_reef340 I see and thanks for the awesomely quick response. I'm not sure if the wire going into the wavemaker was spliced between the adapter and the UPS but I'm gonna rewatch the vid in case I missed it.

    This worked for me for a few months, then stopped. I tried re-resoldering all connections, replaced fuses, and ensured battery is charged. Any advice? The charger has a green led and using a test light I have power all the way to the end where I plug into the ecotech controller

    • @nismo300zx96
      @nismo300zx96 5 лет назад

      For anyone else having this issue it ended up being my battery. I am only getting ~8v testing directly from the battery terminals. I am able to get everything working if I operate while on a charger.

    Do these units produce a true sine wave -- or is that necessary for most aquarium pumps?

    • @dbr_reef340
      @dbr_reef340  5 лет назад +1

      the battery backup does not produce any ac power (so no sine wave at all). The ecotech pumps use DC, and their battery backup directly provides that DC power, albeit at a lower voltage than they typically run

    • @genemcloud4114

    i have an Apex with 2 WAVs how would i make that work for it? ive got a 400 watt inverter im trying to figure it out

    • @dbr_reef340
      @dbr_reef340  6 лет назад

      This is something I've been meaning to tackle, but I don't have wave pumps to test it on. I think it would be easy if you run a 1 link, much harder if you run them through a eb832. I might try to find someone local who wants to give it a try so I have some to look at.

    • @darrinhawkey8913
      @darrinhawkey8913 6 лет назад

      my thoughts .. (i have a 1 link with a power supply) get a 12 volt power supply for the Apex. and plug in the Apex and the 1 link and the internet to the 400 watt inverter. and program the wavs set on

    • @darrinhawkey8913
      @darrinhawkey8913 6 лет назад

      but ??? is the 1 link only powered by inverter/battery..

    • @dbr_reef340
      @dbr_reef340  6 лет назад +1

      I dont think you need the 12v apex plug- if you power the 1 link it should power the apex via aquabus. This is what neptune will tell you to do. The down side of this is you loose a lot of efficiency. Lets say that both the inverter in your UPS and the ac to dc adapter are 80% efficient (one or both are probably less efficient, but well give them the benefit of the doubt). That means you get 64% of the run time converting to ac and back to dc as you would if you ran the wav pumps strait off DC.

    • @darrinhawkey8913
      @darrinhawkey8913 6 лет назад

      i need the 12 volt power pluged in to the apex to power it. it is powered by the ebs but if the power goes out the ebs have no power.
