Hi everybody! 💚 For those asking if multiple harvests can be grown from our kits, they can! We guarantee one crop, but many of you have grown more than one. Here's a video from us on how to do so: ruclips.net/video/ulqgw-OosuM/видео.html
When it's upright, should I water it by tilting it on its back and sprinkling 3tsp of water on it, the righting it again?
Mushrooms are such an underrated food to grow. They grow so fast with little intervention needed, they taste great and are easy to cook, and they've always had a bit of a mythical kind of vibe in my mind.
Tip: pour your mushroom tea (from soaking the brick) into your plants instead of just dumping it down the drain.
This is an awesome tip. Thank you!
pour it where you wouldn't mind growing mushrooms, yes it does happen
@@robaldridge6505 it's a sign of good soil health if they sprout though!
For real?
Mycorrhizal fungus forms a symbiotic relationship with plants that enhances the root growth of the plants. Examples of edible mycorrhizal fungi are truffles, chanterelles, matsutaki, porcini, and morels.
Sooo.. I got this for my wife for a birthday present(she loves mushrooms on everything, and loves to be little mrs. Farmer). 24 hours after we first placed it in the window after soaking the first night we had well over 100 sprouts and looked like a massive wart infestation(creepy, but cool), 48 hours after placing in the window all the caps on the sprouts were .25” or larger, totally blown away by how rapid this kit is. This has been an amazing, fast paced homeschool lesson, (we have 4 and instill self sufficiency as the main part of their lessons). All I can say is this little box that caught my eye at Home Depot was well worth every penny thus far, and my wife and I think you guys had a great idea with these. Can’t wait to try your other products! Keep up the good work!
so after you see the pins, do you face the mushrooms to the sun or still keep them away from direct sun light?
@@user-lf4td9xr4v
I believe you're supposed to keep them in indirect sunlight the entire time.
@@user-lf4td9xr4v no, Place them upright in the same position you started them. A month late, I hope you figured it out.
So my box has not formed pins yet, it's been almost two weeks now, and the instructions in the box actually does not tell you that the bag needs to stay on it (in fact mine even said you could remove it if you wanted to).....I did not remove the bag, we are also spraying it the way the instructions say to do.....what gives?!
@@nvaranavage I would message them on Facebook. They got back to me with my questions in a timely manner.
My wife bought this for me in the store and I’m super excited lol!! I’m letting mine soak now! Thank you for the video, these steps are easy to follow
Soaking mine now, super excited! My mushrooms from spores bought on Amazon didn't grow so I'm hopeful that this will work.
Happy Growing!!
Can you give an update?? Sorry
Wouldn't buy spores from Amazon. Think of these kits as practice for if and when you want to get serious about mycology and cultivation. It'll take ALOT of patience and research
@@ProZebra127 I bought it for 7$ can you recommend something for same price that's better? thanks
thank you for making this I couldn't wrap my head around the instructions
Stole a few of these today can’t wait to grow them
Yeah. Walmart sucks and these guys charge stupid money.
@@Appophustwait Walmart sells these? Are they in store? I got mine online and I live next to walmart
@@tacticalgoldfinch8953yeah. They have them around the same time they sell seeds. For some reason they belive mushroom farming indoors is seasonal.
Ha it would help if I opened the box right! Lol I didn't notice directions were in there. I was excited about getting the flap off. Thank you so much!!!
Update from a week ago. Mine are growing beautifully. It took 3 spankings. Ok I think my problem was I live in a very dry place, mountain desert. I needed to water more than a couple tablespoons every time. If you have this problem you might need about a half cup each time. I will buy this kit again. Once I figured out my problem I love this kit.
I live in the High Desert too and mine are too small seemed to dry out
Mine took a couple of weeks to get started; I've watched a bunch of videos on growing mushrooms from kits and from what I've seen you need to get a spray bottle and mist the mushrooms a few times a day while they're growing. I'm not in a dry climate, btw.
Putting my brick to soak right now. Im so excited, can't wait to watch the growth.
I just got one today. I am an amateur gardener and I am STOKED.
Thanks for sharing and growing with us! Don't forget to submit your #growoneonegiveone at backtotheroots.com/pages/grow-one-give-one.
Yummy! I’m so excited for mine to arrive in the mail. My Dad is going to start it at his home and then I’ll arrive for a visit to watch them grow and soon enough eat them as part of a delicious meal!
My 12 y.o daughter is super into mycology so her uncle got this and another set for Xmas. Jus starting it now on January 16 and it looks like the mycelium started to do it's thing and I seem to remember my brother-in-law's saying she should do it as soon as she gets it so hopefully they're still good.
WOW wish I saw this prior but it's so helpful...almost ready!
Got my mom a kit for Christmas and she loved it. Started mine 3 days ago and they are growing like crazy. After these are ready I am going to see how many more uses I get from the kit. Love these.
hey bonnie - this is Nikhil, the co-founder of Back to the Roots. So awesome to hear! Would love to see a pic - if you post one with #GrowOneGiveOne on FB/IG, we'll donate a kit to a classroom of your choice! thanks!
how many more Uses did you get out of them?
So glad I found this and thank you for posting! I ordered my kit from Amazon just to try out but I did not get any instructions included with the box so I kind of did what made sense and essentially got good results but did not know anything about the lighting nor when to harvest. We're enjoying our first kit very much and glad we found the website.
Thanks for showing this! I didn’t scratch mine enough! I’ve already proceeded through the other steps so I think I should do more scratching.
I can't wait to see how mine turns out
MINE ARE LOOKING GREAT AND ALMOST READY😍
Mine are about 2 days from harvest time. I was SURPRISED how fast they grow!
They do grow really fast. Try for a second crop once you harvest the first. If you need any growing tips, let us know.
@@BacktotheRoots_official How do you harvest the second crop and how often can you use that box?
@@KeifusMathews3 You can harvest by snapping the mushrooms off of the block at once. Each box is unique and can be grown multiple times however we do recommend letting it rest for about a week in-between tried.

Back to the Roots question how many harvest can we get from this package? Is it reoccurring or one time only?

Many of our customers have tried growing the opposite side successfully. We do recommend that you rest your grow kit for at least a week before attempting to regrow again.
Great video, am going to try for the first time. Actually found this video after looking for info on seed pods I purchased. Will definitely be trying this kit in the future. Thanks.

Bought one of these. Sooo awesome man. My son loves these!! It's something we can do together! Ours is just "blooming". Can't wait. We're going to try to grow the other side!!
My wife got me this for my birthday, can’t wait to sprout them!
Rigging Doctor how did it go?
Thank you I just got my box for my birthday on the first day of spring and I had no clue on what to do after I opened it. It said soak the box but I wasn't sure if it meant the entire thing in a bowl or just the inside and so I'm here. I wasn't even sure if I was supposed to vent it like lasagna in the oven.
How many times can you grow from the same box?
@@callmechatham I was able to grow a few times, but I had scrap the top off a little because of mold, so don't over water it. I ended up buying it in a bin in the back yard and cut it into slices to make a layer for more mushrooms. 😂 A few even grew after I put a chunk in a potted plant. So I suppose it's how you care for them. No direct sunlight and no watering after they sprout and you should be dandy.
Gotta be honest i didn’t lay it down and I’m pretty sure i added more water than 3 t spoons per day and I’m having a lot more pins that what I’ve seen in videos, they are sooo beautiful 🤩
Perfect for my son !
I came back. It's been a few days. I came back to remind myself not to touch it for at least another week 😅 I'm so excited tho!
I am looking forward to starting mine this weekend! Amazing!
We were recently sent our mushrooms and it took a little while but we are finally at the pinning stage. So excited!
Yay!! Thank you for sharing and we hope you enjoyed the homegrown harvest :)

This was great, thanks, been searching for "button mushroom farming" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Heenyan Mushroom Organifiction - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my partner got excellent results with it.
No I haven't but thanks for sharing with us! And excited to hear that you enjoyed growing your organic pearl oyster mushrooms :)
im gunna grow some mushrooms! yasss
After your harvest the first time, will it continue to grow more afterwards?
In our experience, no :(
Just remember to twist it from the base, ensure the bottom remains in the kit, and it should produce again
It's entirely possible to get multiple flushes if you care for the mycelium properly
I’m wondering the same thing! Did you get a Proper answer?
Somewhere I saw some instructions for this -- you turn the block of substrate upside down, then cut the X and repeat the whole process on the other side. Can somebody confirm this is correct?
I just brought my mushrooms grow kit and I’m absolutely in love with watching it grow. I am wondering though can I regrow mushrooms after I take out this set? 🍄🍄🍄❤️
I wasn wanting to know the same thing
I have seen a video were they got up three harvest.
I ended up messing my whole batch up🤦🏾 mines grew quick and love the process.. def buying more
How should I water it after I stand the box upright?
Got a pearl oyster kit, gonna start it today!!!
Our mushroom kit has been sitting unopened for 2 years. There is a lot of white like in the video, but we also have a lot of rust or orangey colored thick looking liquid as well. I'm not sure if this means it's gone bad or not. I don't want to grow/eat mushrooms that could potentially make us sick. I know I'm being optimistic that they will even grow at all after sitting locked up for 2 years. Does anyone have any valid information (vs. opinion)? TIA.
mine had that orange liquid stuff too. My MIL bought the box as a gift from an overstock outlet, so have no clue how old the box itself is. Grew just fine. Just harvested (why I'm on this video- wanted to see if they were ready), and they're in my fridge now. Haven't eaten them yet but look completely fine.
Are we supposed to keep watering until harvest time?
Do they grow back after the first harvest
The direction never said anything about laying it down flat, I can see mycelium everywhere but where I scrapped , Hope that’s normal , also it seem they would grow on all sides not just the front , have you tried that ?
Hi Justin! Yes, they can grow from all sides as there are mushrooms throughout the substrate. We do encourage you to experiment and try various methods to grow your mushroom kit.
You guys should Carrie different kinds of mushrooms like buttons or other kinds of table mushrooms that would be cool
Can i regrow the same one again
Fun! Doing this today
lol mine were at "Ready to go" at 5 days hahahaha. I feel so special :p
lucky. I messed mine up
@@typingnoises it's ok you can just cut hole in other side and start again
Hi, my mushrooms are growing but from the sides and not the front. Did I do something wrong?
Mine are only growing around d the sides on the white stuff- not the middle where I scratched
Thank you for sharing!
awesome grow kit!
Is the box necessary after cutting x
How do you suggest storing after harvest?
i got this for christmas !! i hope it works 🥺🥺
Question , after harvest , do they regrow ??
Looking for the same answer to that question. Let me know if you figured it out please and thank you.
Do you have to spray the mushrooms as they’re growing?
I really enjoyed the idea of these, but 3 of 4 kits I purchased had already flushed in the box, leaving a slimy mass of failed mushrooms at the top and small or no flushes after opening. Many reviews I read noted decay in quality over the years. Bummer.
I love it, thank you
Hi! I read your answer about letting the box rest for at least a week after the first harvest if attempting to regrow. Do I just let it sit/rest without watering it? Is that what you mean by resting? How exactly do I ‘rest’ the box? Thank you!
You can store in a cool, dry place and make sure not to water it.
After harvesting, what to do with the remaining soil?!
After you harvest, can you get a second crop on the other side?
Those V-neck company shirts where a bad idea.
Why is that?
We found an old one while cleaning out our closet. Is there an expiration date? It doesn't even have the same packaging design as yours. lol
naw. the spores can stay dormant for a while, so it will have a good chance of growing. but after they grow and been cut off, you should keep it in your fridge for about a week max.
Great! Thanks!
There is no expiration date but we do recommend growing it within the first few months. If it's still intact and has mycelium covering it, it should grow. If it's brown and mushy it probably won't grow.
@@BacktotheRoots_official Thanks!
I got the kit but when the mushrooms pin there are brown on the pining mushrooms
Mine fully grew in 6-7 days. Is that ok? It says day 10 to harvest but like 90% of the mushrooms are already 1-2 inches wide.
Great explanation 5 STARS!!!
How do you soak the bag? I can’t see what you did. Is the open side face down in distilled water where it sits 6-24hrs?
Just got one. Question??????? Can you harvest and still get continues growth for long period of time?
Bought mine from lowes. There was a little hole in the bag (I think the box may have been older and handled a lot) and a little clump of mushrooms growing out of said hole when I brought it home, so I got a special box that was successful before anyone even bought it 🤣

I believe these bags/kits are sent to the market after colonization... How long can they stay before someone buys it crop?

is it possible to grow a second crop?
It sure is! Please check out our video on growing a second crop here: ruclips.net/video/ulqgw-OosuM/видео.html
After the first harvest, does it reappear in the same place?
How many times?
Each cycle, do I need to leave it in the water for 6 hours?
Do we keep misting every few hours when they’ve started growing? Mine are starting to look crispy on the edges!
Mine came with a lot of grown mushrooms in the bag/box already but dried out. Does that mean it’s going to not work?
I forgot to scrape the mycelium, I put it in water and like 2 hours later I noticed I didn’t scrape so I scraped it and put it back in water I hope they still grow 😮😬
so frustrated. I bought one of these and the outside of the box tells me to remove front panel and soak over night. Although it made no sense to me whatsoever, I removed the panel and soaked the whole darn box. I knew the cardboard would not handle the soak well but thought I was following directions so did it anyway. It should have said on outside of box to open top flap and find instructions inside. Now that I see your video I know what to do but my box is ruined. I have the inside part which I didnt even know to cut and score before soaking so I can cut it and soak again but then what? Can I just put it in a regular cardboard box? Or plastic container?
I must have screwed up my first kit. The pins stopped growing and started to crack and dry. Also, the caps were nowhere near as large as those seen here. I intend to contact the company for help but I'm demotivated now. How can you screw something up that's as simple as this?
I got two boxes for a gift. Bought from Home Depot. Neither box grew. Back to the Roots sent me a new box from their supply. 7 days later, and I am getting good results! Questions. 1. Should you cut deep into the substrate? So the water sits inside? 2. Can you over water the mushrooms? I live in a dry area, so I have watered a little more than instructed, trying to balance enough water, but not too much? I assume fungi like mushrooms like MORE water better than less water? 3. I will try to grow more in a week. Can you try the same side a few times and then switch to the back? What about putting it on it's side (outside of the box perhaps?). Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Rodney
What is the extra flap used for at the bottom of the bag????
Can u plant these outside now on fall . So next spring they pop
My bag had a hole in it and it grow the mushrooms inside. Is it ruined?
Do they expire? I didn't see a expiration date on the box but the box I got my mom isn't growing
Do you have to start your kit right away? I was given one last summer and I'm starting it now hopefully it still works.
I accidentally broke the box, is it fine? Because I was not smart enough to pull the substrate
Just bought one of these and the bag is kinda brown and wet inside. Is that normal or should i return it?
Once they start pinning do I keep misting still?
it would be better if we could re-use the soil to continue growing. Do you sell spores alone? Otherwise it's pretty expensive as a box of shrooms (organic Whole Foods or Fresh Market) sells them for half that price ready to eat. Also it's just me so that many at one time is a lot unless I freeze or dehydrate. Thanks.
I have a question, can you grow this in the winter with no sun?
Your Mushroom Farm will do best in a warm place with indirect sunlight. Place your farm with the box opening facing away from a window that doesn't get too much sun.
Can I mix the kit into a plastic barrel filled with used coffee ground? I would like to expirement with seeing if I could make the mycelium expand and colonize out the 1 inch holes in the barrel
Great question! Please send an email to our Customer Support Team at contact@backtotheroots.com so they can assist with more details!
I bought this cuz one of the kits in target were already growing mushrooms. No question if it's going to work haha
I just got this kit and it does NOT contain the white substrate brick you show here and that the instructions mention. It has a bag full of wet brown substance akin to mud, so I don't know what's going on.
Look up☝️☝️ that handle she’s got the best tips and kit for growing microdosing shrooms🍄, and stuff for LSD, Ayahuasca, DMT trips, psilocybin, chocolate bars🍫, and she ships swiftly and discreetly too
man, the instructions are really misleading: it says lightly remove some of the white soil with the fork but the video shows you removing most of the white top cover to expose a lot of the brown substrate :/ i had just made some light scratches. guess i need to start over.
Hi @russellmz! We'd be happy to take a look at your mushroom kit if you will send us a photo to contact@backtotheroots.com. We'll certainly be able to advise once we can see what's happening with the mushrooms. We certainly look forward to hearing from you. Happy Growing!
Do you need to soak block overnight?
I just got my kit and am about to start the process. Just curious, can you continue to grow from the kit after harvest?
Yes indeed, you sure can! Here's a video: ruclips.net/video/ulqgw-OosuM/видео.html
Do you water it the whole time? Or stop after you flip it upright?
