I bought this same box. It worked pretty with minimal effort. Then after the second flush (was small) I transferred the substrate and mycelium to a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in it with cold pasteurized straw and got a really impressive clump of tasty mushrooms. I'm working on my 2,3 and 4th buckets now. I'm trying to set them up for a perpetual harvest in 2 2x4x4 grow tents. 2 buckets/tent I just wish that they made marks on the bag where you are supposed to cut it. I wasn't sure how big to make the X. I made a pretty large one and it seemed to allow for more smaller side shrooms to grow instead of just big caps. The holes in my buckets are 3/8" and got a 4 Oz clump out of one
They make two kits you must’ve got the mini kit I have one of each but you can buy a better sprayer if you buy a big zip sprayer like at tractor supply it’s like a fantastic bottle and they hold up well they are worth the price I think they’re about $12 well that may be for two of them
You can just soak the bag again on the same cut side as the first flush(time) for a second flush of mushrooms and possibly a third... Just repeat from the soaking part not the whole process 👌
I regret to inform you that you did it wrong, you are supposed to pop out the section with the dotted line then cut the x the size of that little section
I started my kit ten days ago, but I found a small patch of green mold (probably trichoderma, which is a contaminant) and there's very little appearance of white mycelium. My problem with the BTTR kit is the company doesn't give comprehensive tips that would be so helpful for newbies. Getting random tips by text is not the same as an FAQ page or forum where users can discuss issues they're having. For example, the bag flaps on my kit stick way out, making the substrate dry out very quickly, so I'm having to guess at how much to spray each day to help growth begin. Unless I'm not seeing it, they don't mention anything about how to identify fungal or bacterial contamination.
You may need able to cut the green spot out. I dis that with the 2nd flush. I agree there is little info with the kit. It is a very beginner thing to inspire more people to try growing their own food. Hope your kit and day goes well! ✌💛🌳
Yes, the instructions were little help. THIS VIDEO helped me realize two things. One, how to cut the flaps and water it, and two, that my unopened box was already infested with mold and a leak.
Cool man thanks for the video because the directions on the box are as good as non existent…I bought mine half off because they started growing in the store..I walked up to the manager munching on shrooms like hey how much are these and I think I freaked him out a little
I highly appreciate the support! I'm trying my best and gotta start somewhere right! Let me know if you want to hear or see specific topics or areas of the garden. Thanks again for the sub I'm super grateful! ✌💛🌳
I’m growing a grape vine and it’s getting slightly out of control i don’t know how to contain it and I was wondering if you know how to contain such plant
@@coxsosanis4957 Your grape vine is probably getting to be a few years old that's when they start to go wild! You can prune them very heavy or let them go. Either way they need a support like a trellis or a fence. There are a few different techniques for the grapes. I don't have a video yet for them but I'm sure plant abundance does he seems to know a lot about grapes. They are pretty easy to propagate and share I hear. I'll try to make a video with what I know soon!
I got it today on Amazon and already returned it. It wasn't fully sealed and was covered in black mold that spilled out when I opened it. I then read some of the negative reviews and saw that ALOT of people were complaining about the same thing. Not sure what the problem is but enough people are having a smelly black mold box that it needs some quality control to fix.
@@growingorganic5382 Thank you. The next time you do one of those kits you should weigh your overall harvest because I heard that there’s some decent money in selling to local restaurants and farmers markets.
Just be really careful. If you see ANY growth that does not appear 100% perfect, throw it out. Unless you live in an extremely dry environment with NO local fungus whatsoever, I can guarantee you there are other spores floating about as well. This is an open, unsealed system, so very susceptible to contamination that way. It could go quickly from delicious to deadly. (And no, separating the "good" mushrooms from a tainted colony will not help - the way mushrooms work with their roots/nutrient sharing, it potentially results in ALL the mushrooms in there being poisonous/deadly, regardless of their original type.
I’ve tried to regrow the second batch, not sure what I did wrong but it took very long time. I think at first I left the whole block outside of the block, so I put them back in and they start to grow but only 4 pieces lol
@@diemflores2623 I just did another one and the second flush took a out 3 weeks. And only grew a 4 tiny mushrooms. It was very fun and the block is still good I think.
i think, IF they grow the first time, there is no reason they wont grow indefinitely, just do everything as in a lab, wear plastic gloves, dab the surface of the carboard and the bag with alcohol , sterilize new media before introducing, boil the water and the knife....get an aquarium to separate the sterile environment from yours, what could go wrong?
As you probably already discovered since a month has passed, that sounds like the healthy beginnings of the mushrooms. I found a gray-green patch of mold on my kit, which is definitely not the early stages of oyster mycelium.
cool you're showing your kids some experiments with organics and mushrooms you'll probably never forget it I had environmental science in the fifth grade and I still remember things we did with terrariums how the ecosystem would grow up and die back and then regrow all by itself kind of like when we wipe off the earth we won't be here but the Earth will lol
I started my kit on nov 29. Today checked my kit. I thought I was looking at PINKISH MUSHROOM growth, but lifted section of the X and the growth was powder that disintegrated. sooo disappointed
