The album cover is a combination of two of their albums.. Breakfast in America (waitress Statue of Liberty holding orange juice instead of torch) and Crime of the Century (jail bars)..
The Umbrella is from Crisis? What Crisis?
@@bartstarr100 Yes, that too.
Dee, that line is "I'm a winner, I'm a sinner", and yes, there's both trombone and tuba in there (and this is the original). The band's John Helliwell is a great jazz clarinet and saxophone player and adds an extra dimension to a lot of Supertramp songs. Good song - but Supertramp has better, as you said!
Good call. That was Slyde Hyde: trombone and tuba. Supertramp is notorious for "unusual" instruments when you least expect it. Can you detect the pump organ as well ?
I'm a winner I'm a sinner not I'm a weener I'm a singer 😂
Weener 🤣🤣
Gotta account for the accent.
It's "I'm a winner, I'm a sinner. Do you want my autograph?"
The more you listen to these songs the more you will find. There`s so many layers
A surprisingly masterpiece album.
Always loved this one. Don't think she is happy (about something). I went to DisneyLand when I was 5. What a road trip from Texas. Peace, Love!!
Love this song. Love this whole album.
Yes, it's tuba...and some damn fine tuba at that.
My favorite Supertramp song. The tuba and trombone makes it heavy and powerful.
He's saying "I'm a winner, I'm a sinner"
Dee, the line goes " I'm a winner, I'm a sinner"
Chod, for your 13th and 14th Supertramp song, their "Dreamer" and "Its Raining Again" are next for you!! They deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
Gym Class Heroes sampled this song, this may be what she was referring. Mid-2000's.
This was the first album I played on my new car cassette.🎸😎
Wow, I just noticed the tuba in there just before you paused and talked about it.
My son played tuba in HS and college band.
Hi Chod! Thank you for reacting to this song! This song is VERY sentimental to me, because it came out the same year I did to my first trip the U.S.! So lots of memories with this song! Yes I’m old! Lol! Peace and Blessings to you and your family from Australia.
I just realized how much this song sounds Beatle-eque but with their own spin on it.
Yep, Happiest Place On Earth! IOWA 1978ish! First time hearing this song.
1. Take that lady to brunch
2. Almost any song from Breakfast in America is a winner
No. She should take him.
Imagine that.
Supertramp were a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
Possibly the most successful album of 79
This is a very original Super Tramp song......
That makes feel ( despite the lyrics) a nostalgic vibe to be at vintage years, i don't know if it happens to you.
Omg Chod I love you more now lol this is my band I love the tramp
Hi guys. Since that's a compilation cd the cover references a number of Supertramp albums. The bars/grill are/is from Crime of the Century, the tiny umbrella is from Crisis? What Crisis? & the cocktail itself is from Breakfast in America.
Take the long way home! Bloody well right!
I am rolling over here! You guys had me laughing my tail off.
it`s a tuba! , well eat my lunch and call me hungry. i`ve probably heard this song at least 100 times and never noticed that before.
"Rudy" and "Hide In Your Shell" should be next.
hes saying im a winner im a sinner
Seals and Crofts singer died. You liked Summer Breeze, here's a couple more....
Diamond Girl
Hummingbird
They are dropping like flies. 😰
The cover that you were talking about was a combination of two album covers. Breakfast In America was a waitress holding a glass of juice and a menu, similar to the Statue of Liberty. The other was Crime of the Century, with hands on bars floating in space. I agree this is just an OK song. They have many better ones, Rudy, Hide In Your Shell, Bloody Well Right, Take the Long Way Home, The Logical Song, Fool's Overture etc. Hide In Your Shell has a couple of spots where it sounds like they are using a musical saw. It's probably a synthesizer but it sounds just like it.
The Umbrella is from Crisis? What Crisis?
Chod you're spot on as usual. Breakfast in America is a fun song but is definitely second tier compared to stuff like School, Rudy, A Soapbox Opera & Fool's Overture 😊
Hahahaha 2:08 not Weiner! 🤣 I believe he says~ “I’m a winner ,I’m a sinner”
The Greatest Hits album has a clever mash-up of album art elements from both “Crime of the Century” (the jail bars), and “Breakfast in America” (the diner waitress’s hand holding the OJ).
And yep, you’re hearing a god’s-honest tuba, harrumphing happily along. 😊
Yes, that is a tuba. It also features a clarinet solo.
Because of that tuba and clarinet this song makes me feel a nostalgic feeling to be at vintage era, i don't if it happens to you.
@@gustavoperez5480 Yes, me too.
@@j.woodbury412 good.
The music is clesmer style.
I love these reactions when everyone is remembering Gym Class Heroes
Great reaction and great analysis.... I think the bass is trombone, but also a fender bass guitar underneath it on the half step to give it some foundation and glue. I've subbed, lovely couple and I hope to see a lot more from you guys. well done.
Lmao. Love the looks Dee gives you.
Priceless
I'm a winner, I'm a sinner, do you want my autograph
That tuba sound comes from Rick Davies keyboard
I'm a winner
I'm a sinner
DO YOU WANT MY
AUTOGRAPH???😂😂😂😂😁
My favorite album of all time is Supertramp's Brother Where You Bound. Check out Cannonball, and the video, from that album.
Chod, cut your losses, keep your lass happy!
Very cabaret. Such a unique song! Not sure what kippers are though.
I thought kippers are a fish
@@francisedwards4069 Yep. I buy cans of King Oscar Smoked Kipper snacks at my local grocery store. They're actually pretty good.
That, which you (Chod) said is definitely a clarinet, I believe is actually an oboe. The two are very similar in size and sound but the clarinet has a single reed whereas the oboe is a double reed instrument. The sound is slightly more "nasal" and the pitch wavers a little more than with a clarinet.
No, it is a clarinet.....Personnel
Roger Hodgson: lead vocals, piano, pump organ, electric guitar
Rick Davies: harpsichord, synthesizers, vocals
John Helliwell: clarinet
Dougie Thomson: bass[11]
Bob Siebenberg: drums and percussion
Slyde Hyde: trombone, tuba
@@wpollock1 Thanks. It sounded like an oboe to me.
Your wife looks bored & unimpressed. 🤣. (Then oissed off)
I love this song! All of Supertramp, actually
Thx 😊
It's I'm a winner, I'm a sinner.
Just Another Nervous Wreck
GONE HOLLYWOOD
TIL I learned about the Gym Class Heroes cover of this! Thanks youse two
can you do a reaction to Your Poppa Don't Mind by Supertramp
Kind of a catchy B side from them. 8th best song on this album.
The best brunches are Sunday afternoon at a outdoor cafe with Bloody Marys and or champagne cocktails. French toast smothered in whipped cream and strawberries. Sunshine and romance. 🌹 if you bring it home it's just carry out. But make it what you will, its still the thought that counts. 😉👍
sounds good, i would try a Bloody Caesar - takes the bloody mary and improves upon it.
Weiner ❤🤣winner, there is a difference you know, it all depends I guess 🤣🇬🇧
The Weiner takes it all aka ABBA 🇬🇧❤🤣
Both Supertramp and The Beatles had a relatively short lifespan of about 8-10 years, probably these two super groups burned up their creative accounts and that the people in the groups wanted to develop themselves musically.
Supertramp were mainly active 1969 to1998.. bit longer than10 years !!!!them on and off but still active now ...different line ups .
@@sallybannister6224 damn, I was just gonna say that 😳
You two are so cute and funny. Keep up the good reactions. My suggestion. You Got The Silver. Rolling Stones. Let It Bleed LP. Keith vocals. Or Little T & A Tattoo You LP.
Greatest hits album cover. Find Breakfast in America album cover, Crime of the Century and Crisis, What Crisis album covers. You’ll get it.
Gym Class Heros sampled this song about ten years ago.
Brunch?? These days?? Brunch for 2 = filling the car up with gas.
You should try the live in Paris version of this track.
There is a Bass, but also a Tuba 😉
Winner, sinner...no weiners are mentioned. Old school instrumentation. Check out Taj Mahalo, he used a Tuba as bass on some records.
Not once in this song do they say “Breakfast in America”
I suggest The Logical Song because Dee is such a Sax fan.
Whaaat? You get contact lenses or sumpin? Thought my man had a new lady for a minute! 🙂She looks fine both ways!
Show her “Give A Little Bit” if you haven’t already.
Try 10cc "I'm not in love" you've got to hear it with the wife
gym class heroes covered/remixed this
A lot of slovic influences in this music.
Tuba
you are right, Chod.....that is a tuba! The clarinet on this makes the tune. Crazy.
Does he have an accent. I always sing it like he does
I believe it’s a baratone?
Gym Class Heroes sampled this in 2007, first look at Katy Perry in the video….Supertramp are the OGs they copied no one..
Hey,you guys might need to go to counseling. 👍
Hey Yoko. Weiner? Really?
Saw this. I was curious to see, but really .... do I (or Supertramp) really need affirmation from someone with so little life experience? Let alone someone who grew up during an era with so little originality or variance.
You're girl needs a few more years to mature. Love ya!!! Nice girl though!!!
