Oh yes, the music! Cockney red, could apply to me! Ginger haired, (well, grey now ! ) and from the Elephant & Castle, late 60's early 70's ? The best years of my life! ( don't tell the missus) 😉 the music then? Just the best ever!
@@TheCornishCockney well C R, i left the Elephant when i got married, many many years ago, i've been back a few times since, the last time was when my mum died in 2012, it was interesting to see how the place had changed, but its still busy, loud and in your face! This song always evokes a mixture of like upbeat klezmer (jewish folk music w/lots of clarinet), dixieland/new orleans 'carnival' or second-line style, and the old British military ooom-pa-pa themes that feel like reminiscing in first/second world war music. There's a great British Christmas tune by a guy called Jona Lewie called "(Can You) Stop the Cavalry" that i fell in love with over there the first time I was in the UK at Christmas, and i think this is one you'd really enjoy. (The Brits'll probably get a kick out of seeing Americans' reactions to their classics that didn't make it across the pond.) There are tons of great songs in that realm tho: Slade, Wizzard, Boney M, i can't think of more now. But it's a genre to explore fo' sho' and i think you'll really get a kick out of it :)
was just listing my 10 favorite bands yesterday then later I was like wait i forgot The Kinks,Traffic, etc I would have to maybe do my favorite 50 bands lol
C'mon, clarinet and jazz like peanut butter and jelly. LOL. Benjamin David Goodman (May 30, 1909 - June 13, 1986) was an American jazz CLARINETIST and bandleader known as the "King of Swing".
I love this whole album, the brass and reed insturments always grab me and get me up dancing Excellent group, I wish they were still together. Leonard Cohen has electric clarinet in some of his songs and I always love it.
Love this whole album, the title song always gives me a weird 60's musical vibe, such as Oliver Twist and Mary Poppins, I think its the instruments, as the tuba and clarinet :-)
Between this album, which was 5 weeks at number one in 1979 and their other album " CRIME OF THE CENTURY" released in 1974, you will have endless great music to take your mind off your troubles for at least awhile.
Supertramp is a Super group of musicians and are just one of those gods of Rock n' Roll. Every song is just super duper!!! just love them....now react to "Give A Little Bit."
Supertramp is one of my all time favorite groups. It is nice seeing so many reaction videos with people discovering them for the first time. Take the time to listen to their whole albums.
Yeah that really is a great song. Your comments, as always Chod, insightful. A few of my favorites of theirs that aren’t named as often are “Don’t Leave Me Now”, “Downstream” , “Rudy”, “Hide in Your Shell”.
The great John Helliwell plays Sax, Clarinet, Trombone, harmonica, and fill in keyboards. Probably plays much more I an aware of. Thanks for sharing sir!!! Love and blessings from Motown.
Clarinet it was! John Helliwell was the band's sax player but occasionally branched out into flute and clarinet. The tuba and trombone fill out the bass end beautifully too. I could be wrong but I think they were deliberately trying to get a slight New Orleans street band vibe to the song.
Great reaction!! Supertramp always takes me back! Reminds me of High School... we used to put this album on and then sneak out my friends bedroom window to go “reek some havoc”!! LOL! A lot of people have mentioned it, but you should check out some Jethro Tull! He’s a master flute player!! Maybe “Thick as a Brick” or “Aqualung”! I also think you should check out some “Three Dog Night” from the late 60’s early 70’s!! The videos are hilarious with these 3 hippies! A few to pick from would be “Try a Little Tenderness” (which is really an old blues song), “Black and White”, Mamma Told Me Not To Come, “Never Been To Spain”, and the infamous song “Joy to the World”! Be well and God Bless... from Texas!!
Supertramp are awesome. I do love the super old school jazz vibe in this song. I mean really old school New Orleans jazz. Banjo, clarinet, trumpet and trombone and tuba are classic jazz instruments. There are still bands making this music today. One of my faves is called Tuba Skinny.
How many rock bands use a tuba. Love it. Went to their concert in the lss as the 70’s. They sounded as good live as they did on the album. Yes album. Lol
When you go to a song on Wikipedia, just click on "Personnel" to get the performer list, and what they played or sang. Great for when you can't place an instrument.
A great answer about having a top thirty or forty because there were so many great musical artists that one should appreciate them and not put one necessarily over another.👍🏻❤️☮️✌🏻🎹🎸🎤🎼
Another Rock group that had a clarinet in one song...... Van Halen - Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now) Eddie and Alex Van Halen’s father plays the clarinet... it’s great
Please do 'It's Raining Again'. I saw Roger Hodgson in concert in 2019 and this was the one that got everyone singing along. I know it ought to be our national anthem over here, but still, a brilliant song. You can't miss with a crazy saxophone and some kids singing a nursery rhyme.
You need to react to The band Jethro Tull with Ian Anderson leading the way. Here are some great songs among a hundred you can choose from; Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, My God, Life’s a Long Song, Songs From The Wood, The Whistler, And Hunting Girl. That are just a few of so many more you will absolutely love!
Do you know much late 30's to late 40's big bands? Benny Goodman was a bandleader and Clarinet player; but you could expect to hear a clarinet in many of them from those days. "Sing, Sing, Sing" was a tremendous swing song from Benny Goodman's orchestra, along with "In The Mood." You can hear the roots of rock n roll and R&B in "Sing Sing Sing," and "In The Mood" has a sort of Jazz feel along with the Swing. Glenn Miller, and the Dorsey brothers (Tommy & Jimmy) both had swing bands. Oh, and Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Cab Calloway! I'm sure you know some of those bands.
Please react to these Supertramp songs: Hide In Your Shell, From Now On, Sister Moonshine, Another Man's Woman (Live from the Royal Albert Hall 1997), Rudy, Fool's Overture, Ain't Nobody But Me, It's Raining Again, Even In The Quietest Moments, Oh Darling, Child of Vision, A Soapbox Opera, Gone Hollywood, Don't Leave Me Now, Cannonball, Two of Us, and Lady.
Add Lover Boy, Crime of the Century, Brother Where You Bound, My Kind Of Lady, Babaji, If Everyone Was Listening, School, Bloody Well Right, Goodbye Stranger, Just A Normal Day, The Meaning, Poor Boy
Definitely either a clarinet doing a little Klezmer bit, or Soprano Sax. Along with the other winds playing in pseudo-ethnic style, definitely throws a fun immigrant-just-off-the-boat vibe into the tune.
"It's Raining Again", "Give a Little Bit" ... or if you want odd? the bagpipes in "It's a Long Way to the Top" live by AC/DC You gotta love reed instrments
The Beatles... again, they were the first band to mixed up classic instruments to pop music. The entire "Sgt peppers lonely hearts club band" album and songs like "Penny Lane " or "Got to get you into my life "... yes they did it again ☯️✌ take care
Jethro Tull - according to lore was a real person who invented the seed drill...Ian Anderson leads the band and plays the flute! You will like it. Trust me.
I finally decided that I could take 250 of the names of my favorites (Groups, artists songs?) put them in a sack and I could randomly pick them in any order and that would be the it!
There is so much great music to listen to, please react to Supertramp's FOOL OVERTURE is excellent. Other great ones are THE FRIENDS OF MR CAIRO by Vangelis with Jon Anderson from YES singing and Emerson lake & Palmer’s ABADDON'S BOLERO, TRILOGY (from their Trilogy album), FROM THE BEGINNING, THE BARBARIAN and TAKE A PEBBLE (from their Emerson, Lake & Palmer album).
I would so like to add Dire Straits to your list... ('Wild West End' from their 1st album). Their 1st album (self titled) is the best, where once you hear the entire album you're hard pressed to say there's a bad song. Then Brothers in Arms album with its iconic title song. It's OK... Hello Again!! Just beginning to watch your reaction to this song and plan to react to your reaction!! Great Album in my opinion. However!! Seeing the Album cover brought back memories of 9/11. Why You May Ask?? Just going to give you a few examples that are depicted On the Album Cover!! First, this album came out in 1979 BUT The album cover art will astound you!! Just going to name 3 for right now. First, when you look at the lady holding (what's supposed to be a torch with flames) is positioned directly on the Twin Towers. Second! If you Hold the Front cover of the album to a mirror, you'll see 911 in the wording. Third! If you look at the Back cover you'll see a Plane flying directly at the Twin Towers!! Many more examples and enough said!!
I love marching bands! We’re you in one? What did you play if so? my daughter started the trombone at 9 and is now 13 and still terrible she’s the first to admit lol

A great British band 'SUPERTRAMP' created one of the greatest albums of all times "Breakfast In America." Awesome post and great reaction.
The 60's and 70's was a massive two decades long party.
I feel privileged to have lived those wild, happy days.

Give A Little Bit.... Supertramp.
First song I ever heard them do and it is a fun song to listen to!
Goodbye Stranger is my favorite from them
One of my favorite Supertramp songs from this album that I’ve rarely heard played is Child of Vision. I absolutely LOVE the piano on this song!
Superb song!

I love it even more than sax TBH
Crime of the Century is a fantastic song that needs some love!
Love this CD, one of my all time favorites. Still play it.
Best Clarinet in Rock Music!!
Tuba as well ..
It’s kinda cool that their sax player chose to use a clarinet this time. Yes, that was a clarinet.
I love this whole album, the brass and reed insturments always grab me and get me up dancing Excellent group, I wish they were still together. Leonard Cohen has electric clarinet in some of his songs and I always love it.

Their concerts were Epic!
Always loved the trombone in the background of this song. There might be some tuba as well.
