When Linda covered “Down so Low”, songwriter Tracy Nelson said she got a royalty check so large that she bought a farm with the $$. Great song that Tracy recorded first.
If JD Souther had complaints about her version of Faithless Love, why would he sing harmony on it in this concert performance: Linda Ronstadt & JD Souther - 'Faithless Love' 12/20/74 ruclips.net/video/E7_a-MfSNsc/видео.html
Linda is and will always be one of the greatest voices of generations, all the interviews with other artists and writers never heard any negative comments about her.Even the interviews with JD Souther he said that when he heard Linda sing this is good as gets and he prefers her singing the songs he wrote rather than him singing them, somebody of her talent often times make the song writers look better than they are.❤🎶
These are all people who speak very highly of Linda and of whom she has always done the same. I’ve never once read of behind-the-scenes animosity. I’m curious as to the source 🤔
I feel your video woud have much more weight if you included interviews with Browne, Souther, and Young where they made these statements. You don't provide any proof for your conclusions.
Are they really complaining or is the channel fabricating drama for clicks? I've never heard anything of the sort and I've been following all of them for the past 50 years
Yeah I heard that too and since the announcer said maine instead of me so many times in the video I started to doubt my own recollection of these song titles. I checked both songs and it is ME not MAINE or MAIN. 🤗
Can you be so kind as to point us to the source for these shocking revelations? I am unable to find references to any of these statements. Please and thank you in advance!
Writers write songs and poetry. Singers perform the production, their own way. Linda’s comment “sing it my own way” of course is a dagger in Jackson Brown’s heart. I like his style, but he can’t perform at her level, on any piece of music he ever wrote. Kristofferson knew what he was saying when he mused “I didn’t know what I’d written in Bobby McGee until I heard Janis Joplin sing it.” It’s only an issue if they cheat on the royalties, or change the name of the song
i wonder if they complained when the royalty checks started flooding in...i should think they did not...how about chooo? also, it's the job of a vocalist to make a tune their own. sinatra didn't write a note but the writers were overjoyed when their composition was shipping wheelbarrows full of dough to their abode.
I wonder if they ever complained in the first place. When a musician even hints at conflict with another musician it spreads like wildfire yet I found nothing about it
Ridiculous. IF these things are true, you have people who are in the Songwriters" Hall of Fame complaining about someone allowing their voice to be used to make their songs famous --- making them a lot of money in the process!! The complaints made would be far more credible if reference points were given for when they were supposedly made. 'According to an interview in such-and-such magazine" or "In a conversation broadcast by _______ television channel." IF in fact these esteemed songwriters had complaints with Linda Rondstadt's interpretations of their songs, they didn't rise up to stop her. And it certainly didn't stop them from cashing the checks that came from her popularizing their lyrics. Cite your sources. Otherwise this comes across as shady gossip.
Look it must be sad That Jackson browne Who is being critical Linda Ronstadt here Brown All no has trouble with women To the point where he beats them up Everyone in town knows that he beat up Daryl Hannah while he was with her So he abuses Yes he wrote some good songs But let's not forget that When you write articles like this about him The truth of what kind of man he really was and is Okay?
Bruce Springsteen just outright stole songs. He took lyrics I wrote. He promised to pay me if he used them depending on how good they were. He made millions of dollars on them and never gave me one red cent. I was 15 in 1974 when I met him and he was 26. This standing agreement continued until 1982. I always figured Bruce would pay me when he and Steven Van Zandt had gotten their fill. They were indecent. "Song Sharks"
All of those L.A. country-rockers' social-justice views were strongly left-of-center; like the "music-belongs-to-the-people" chant heard from the Woodstock gate-crashers, and John Lennon exhorting us to "imagine no possessions". It seems, however, that those views didn't quite extend to those country-rockers' personal property. Like their music.
Linda Ronstadt never did that. She always praised the songwriters and credited them for their work. She never claimed to have written other people's songs...never.
Singers are expected to interpret a song. The authors get credit and royalties. I am sure J.D., Jackson, and others did not object to the money or the publicity. Actually, I think the video is a attempt to get clicks by creating an imaginary controversy. I guess they got me (or, got us).
This would be like Burt Bachrach and Hal David complaining about Dionne Warwicke's interpretations of their lyrics. Or Otis Redding hating Aretha Franklin's rendition of "Respect." Or Bob Dylan rejecting Jimi Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower." The songwriter may not have the voice to carry their own song to the heights that a great singer can. They should be flattered that someone with a much better voice and/or the vision for a better arrangement took their lyrics and used their voice as a vehicle to embed their songs in popular culture. How many songwriters have written outstanding words and never got even a whiff of the fame and fortune that these men received?
I agree with the comments,
Linda made them money, &she was the greatest, could sing anything, and so beautiful . Miss her music.
When Linda covered “Down so Low”, songwriter Tracy Nelson said she got a royalty check so large that she bought a farm with the $$. Great song that Tracy recorded first.
Love Tracy's version and her work with Mother Earth. Got to see her live too.
They resented her, but she made them rich. Hard to complain.
Did they resent her though? In 50 years I've never heard anything like this and a web search brings up nothing

They should be thankful Linda recorded their songs. How much money did they make?
I feel your video woud have much more weight if you included interviews with Browne, Souther, and Young where they made these statements. You don't provide any proof for your conclusions.
I’ve never read a thing about any of this. To say that the content is questionable is an understatement
Dylan never complained about Hendrix doing All Along the Watchtower.
But that was only after Dylan had already recorded it.
@jeffgerndt2813 Mr. Dylan didn't complain about anything. Ask The Byrds. Ask Peter Paul & Mary and countless others.
Hendrix didn’t use it prematurely. He waited until Dylan’s recording had been out half a year.
Love Linda and her performances..
without question Linda was the greatest female rock/blues/folk singer I've ever heard. I'll love her voice forever, and it's been a Long, Long Time!
Writers dont need singers to prove they're talented...
But singers need writers to prove they are...
I truly don't understand what Jackson Brown or Neil Young are complaining about.
Are they really complaining or is the channel fabricating drama for clicks? I've never heard anything of the sort and I've been following all of them for the past 50 years
Why are you replacing the word "me" with "Maine?" The songs are titled "Poor, Poor Pitiful ME" and "Rock ME on the Water." 🤔
Yeah I heard that too and since the announcer said maine instead of me so many times in the video I started to doubt my own recollection of these song titles. I checked both songs and it is ME not MAINE or MAIN. 🤗
@@loudom3217 I think Mr. Golden Stars is on drugs! 😅
Don't do drugs kids. DRUGS ARE BAD! 🥸
Anka wrote MY WAY. Sinatra is the one identified with it.
No it was a French song
Hey! It's Linda. Deal with it.
Can you be so kind as to point us to the source for these shocking revelations? I am unable to find references to any of these statements. Please and thank you in advance!
I found the same thing you did - nothing
Poor Poor Pitiful Me...not Poor Poor Pitiful Main haha

Did these guys talk about this when she was alive and could respond?
wow that's is the sweetest way to call someone a thief yea her voice was great so great no one would call her a thief hmm
karma hmm

Yes, I’ve never heard anything like what they’re implying here.
They should be honored! Stop whining.

"tightly" knitted...
Was what she did illegal? Or just a bruise to the pride of the author?
lil richard made more money with elvis recording his songs than he did ...doesn't the write hav to give permission for a singer can record them....

nice repeating the same thing over and over
Bunch of crap, when someone else records your song, you make money, that's what songwriting is all about.
If you take someones work and claim as yours is wrong regardless of your talent.
Linda Ronstadt never did that. She always praised the songwriters and credited them for their work. She never claimed to have written other people's songs...never.

It'd be a good idea to give credit to the author if you're going use their material at a gig.
Linda always credited songwriters. She never claimed to have written them.
She did much more than credit the songwriters, she complimented them on their beautiful songs at her concerts
