Ms. Ronstadt and I would probably draw different conclusions on a variety of topics, but I so admire her intellectual honesty, her complete lack of artifice and hypocrisy, and most importantly her respect and reverence for those who came before her‐all evidenced in this interview. Her earnestness, vigilance and single- mindedness in unearthing music from different eras and cultures and showcasing them in the best possible light is so admirable and inspiring. The twilight of her life is now like its dawn-parked near a "radio" devouring music, music, music. Her peripatetic life in-between was something to behold: she did not waste a moment, a note, or a chance to collaborate with other talented, serious, and beauty-seeking artists. I don't know Ms. Ronstadt's religious beliefs, but for me her gifts and discipline and devotion to expressing them embodied the sacred and divine. I ask God to bless her, her family, and her caregivers and be near to her in ways that bring her comfort... in the way the realization of her "simple dream" has done for me.
I've been on love with Linda from the late 60's when she sang with the Stone Poneys. The first time that I saw Linda (in color) on television was "The Midnight Special" in the early 70's. I loved her voice, her beauty, talent and her luscious lips! Thanks for this special video interview of Linda when she was at the peak of her singing career.
I have to admit she gives an intriguing defense of her decision to perform in South Africa. I supported the cultural boycott back in the day because i never heard a convincing argument to ignore it. And now 30-plus years later, I have. Kudos to her for broadening my mind and to the host for bringing up the touchy topic in an interview designed to promote a product.
When I saw some of this interview in the documentary about her, I thought the same thing. I came here to see if I could find the interview and of course here it is. Having watched it again, I think she's engaging in a false equivalency here. Certainly there is racism in the United States and the other places she mentioned. However, that racism is not an official government policy as it was in South Africa. So it's not the same thing. The controversy wasn't about playing in a place with racism, it was about playing in a place where racism was official government policy.
Anyone else in love with her vocabulary and word usage...I appreciate anyone who is her or his own thesaurus. The easy insertion of the small "c" catholic, synonym for universal, was a highlight.
This is my favorite interview with Linda she was always good at speaking her mind and she does that so vividly here. Was deeply sad to hear about her diagnosis with Parkinson's Disease. No more new music and song from her but what a back Catalogue that we are so fortunate to have. God Bless you Linda
There is or never was anything controversial about this honest woman. She just spoke and speaks from what she sees as fact. And she is pretty much spot on.
What a remarkably SMOOTH singing voice. A voice that is so naturally elegant. Linda's temperament and ease singing tunes of her choice is so professionally inviting.
As I watched this video, I thought this song is the secret story of her life! A beautiful song, and she really sang it well💔💙It's a great video. Look into her eyes, she means every word.
I loved watching the Don Lane show , and was sadden when he passed he always had great people on his show , am younger then Linda but what a voice she had , and sorry that she has lost it .
What a phenomenal instrument Linda has! Always has. I recorded her live in 1977 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. She was gracious and kind, treated her crew and band like family. I can’t say enough good about this beautiful woman. Hoping you’re ok, Linda ❤️🤗
She has got it together in her head, this was back in the 80s and she had people and governments figured out to the MAX already,,, I'd marry her at the drop of a hat!
She just paid attention to the TV(which was much more responsible, then) and read newspapers and books. What's going on these days hasn't changed much; but the media has been changed into tabloid form, as the host says about Murdock's "empire." The problem is that people expect this tabloid view for all of their TV fare; and the old media outlets try to get back some of their former glory(and respectability) back, while the Fox machine grinds out more comic-book style "News! News! News!" and people accept whatever crap that they say. It's like sugar-coated cereal; it's bad, but kids still reach for it first.
What a refreshingly smart, articulate, beautiful young lady! Throughout her career, she was able to sing the full gamut of genres, outstanding in all of them! But as of now she's ravaged by Parkinson's (although she's also outlived most Parkinson's sufferers).
Such a beautiful & classy gal. And lets keep this lovely songbird in out prayers every night as she continues to battle that awful Parkinson's Disease, of which cut her singing career short. You are CERTAINLY in my prayers each & every night Linda. And thanks for that wonderful gift you gave to all of us. All of that ABSOLUTE GREAT MUSIC!!!
Everyone has a opinion. Personally, I wish she had political views more like my own, but what really matters is that Linda will be remembered for her unmatched vocal ability. Especially in her early and mid 70's work. Heart like a wheel, Hasten Down the Wind, Simple Dreams...these efforts moved me as a young man. The poor production values on some of these albums only served to endear millions to her wonderful singing and the great musicians and songwriters that she worked with. The great thing about music, in many cases, is that one can separate the person from the body of work. Music is the magic, no matter who brings it about. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Linda Ronstadt. May the Lord grant her long life and Joy.

@@frankpeter6851 I know this was an old reply to an even older comment but I have to say something. Your reply to Joseph Hafford's comment is what's really disgusting.
Top notch musicianship
Totally!
I admire how she maintained a sweet personality while going public in her activism.
Linda made the world a better place.
What an incredibly brilliant woman.
Lmao what that her making money is more important than supporting the boycott?

Did you really laugh your ass off?
Cause it seems that is the part of your body that is resposible for you viewpoint.
She was very poorly advised by Jerry Brown and Peter Asher on this.
South Africa is a absolute shithole now, wish Apartheid comes back
Anyone else in love with her vocabulary and word usage...I appreciate anyone who is her or his own thesaurus. The easy insertion of the small "c" catholic, synonym for universal, was a highlight.
Great observations of Rupert Murdock! She had the situation figured out that long ago.
This is my favorite interview with Linda she was always good at speaking her mind and she does that so vividly here. Was deeply sad to hear about her diagnosis with Parkinson's Disease. No more new music and song from her but what a back Catalogue that we are so fortunate to have. God Bless you Linda
Ok

Linda a very versatile beautiful singer.
There is or never was anything controversial about this honest woman. She just spoke and speaks from what she sees as fact. And she is pretty much spot on.
What a wonderful down to earth lady thanks for helping the eagles get together you are an angel x
A down to earth DREAMBOAT who also happened to be a great authentic vocalist.
Jeezus, foxy as hell, vocals from God and brilliant also. Did I mention that she is a complete fox? I miss "real" music like hers!
What a remarkably SMOOTH singing voice. A voice that is so naturally elegant. Linda's temperament and ease singing tunes of her choice is so professionally inviting.
she is sooo cool. you rock, Linda, love ya. take care. I pray for you too. Thanx for the Beautiful music I grew up with!!! PEACE!!
Delightful and delicious. Mainly the voice is the source of our love for linda but she has a captivating mind and adorable demeanor as well.
As I watched this video, I thought this song is the secret story of her life! A beautiful song, and she really sang it well💔💙It's a great video. Look into her eyes, she means every word.
She is so smart and quick on her feet - an amazing gal ...
OH MY CHRIST!
Linda was like Cassandra from the Trojan war with her prophetic statements about Rupert Murdoch!
Certainly one of the most beautiful, appealing women of all time - and a voice of commensurate value .
My first listen was back in 1967. I heard Different Drum and was hooked.
What cannot be said about this wonderful artist? Such beauty and talent in a truly normal Mexican American woman. I have loved her since Stone Pony
🇲🇽 🇩🇪 🇺🇸 Woman!
She is absolutely wonderful !!! I love Linda...she's a wonderful person, beautiful woman, beautiful singer, beautiful politics too.
In 1983, her political views resonate today's.
and i quote ..."what's so controversial ? ...who likes nuclear weapons ?...and who likes racism?...." very good questions.
Just Lovely.
I loved watching the Don Lane show , and was sadden when he passed he always had great people on his show , am younger then Linda but what a voice she had , and sorry that she has lost it .
Linda Ronstadt, my favourite artist of all times, love any song she sang, good health and enjoy your retirement life and take care
I've always loved the faces she makes!! Luv her dearly!
DOREEN ONUSKI
Right haha, the faces she makes 😂
Ah, and that nose. OMG! 😍
She speaks it as well as she sings it.
Joseph Hafford I wish everyone was like you.
Joseph Hafford
republicans are absolutely disgusting. nobody with this much heart, soul and brains would be a right-winger. why don't you go back to your anita bryant and kate smith videos.
Well, she aligns with my political views, perfectly. So, I get to enjoy the whole enchillada!
@@frankpeter6851 I know this was an old reply to an even older comment but I have to say something. Your reply to Joseph Hafford's comment is what's really disgusting. There was nothing wrong with his comment, he was polite and clearly loves her music. There is nothing evil about being on the political right. In fact... I would dare say it's quite the opposite. Especially these days. I don't care for Trump. But he was elected. And probably will be again. So get the fuck over it.
@@garysmith3097
Still feel the same way, if not more so.
Fuck republicans
Fuck libertarian shills
Fuck anyone who remains "conservative" in this era of fascism.
Especially when they poop their shit out around artists of integrity and conscioussness. It is not completely all about the music. It is also about the context wherein it was conceived and created.
She was so informed about the truth even though she was busy maintaining that amazing singing career. I miss her voice almost more than anyone else. I can sing to her music easier than anyone's.
me encanta OIRLA
She was a voracious reader-read the classics, history, the WSJ, etc. The life of the mind was important to her; she often said that her music was imbued with everything she had ever read or experienced.
One of the Better humans We all had a moment to enjoy.... Thank you for posting.... What a Gem!!!
She called it in 1983 that Latin music is the future of pop music
Tu Carnal and she was wrong then and is wrong now. Music today sucks........auto tune etc ruined it. Rock n roll died 20 years ago.
Haywood Ja'Blome .... Amen.
Not really
There’s good music now you just have to find it. Turn off the pop radio and do research
Like Linda said “talent never leaves the gene pool”
Even today at 69 she still has those beautiful, luscious and oh so kissable lips.
This is how you answer questions! Spite fire and accurate. So incredibly intellegent! I love her! He asks her a politically posed question and then is suprised by the amount of feedback she gives him and has the audicity to tell her she's controversial. I'm glad she clapped back the way she did.
Linda is one of the most sweetest persons on this planet with the looks too!!
Loved her comment on Rupert merdock so prophetic
She was a singer with talent, the business categorized her.
Luv her forever. One of the finest voices in the history of popular music, sharp mind, lacking that celebrity self-absorption and in possession of the most adorable soul. Yeah and she is pretty damn cute to look at.
Linda great voice great person

The last of the hardcore dolls. She had a mind of her own and a stunning singing voice.
Warren Voy Right on and she was a soothsayer to boot😘.
Hope you all saw the recent "Sound of my Voice" documentary on Linda, a most entertaining show. Part of this Don Lane clip features in it too.
