- Can you travel long distances with a Honda CRF300L Rally? Is the Honda CRF300L Rally a good bike for touring? This video documents my 1000 mile ride from Everett Washington to Missoula Montana on a 2021 Honda CRF300L Rally. Hours of highway riding, backroads riding & off-road light adventuring through: Steamboat Rock State Park, Hanford Reach, & Beverly ORV.
Bike has a Garmin Zumo XT & a Nelson Rigg Tank Bag, otherwise it's completely stock.
Video gear used: DJI Mini 2, GoPro Hero9 Авто/Мото
Honda should buy your video. It's the best sales pitch I've seen yet.
Thanks man👍
I've done 6854 km on a 18=year old honda wave that had 380,000 km on the dashboard already. Should i contact the honda factory ?
@@onhiswavediscoveringthaila6862 Depends on WHERE you took it, and how long it took you to get there. What I like about Trek Ethos video is showing the highway versatility of the bike, something that is not common with small displacement machines.
@@jeffreybobeck9809 when you read my name, you can see where i did it. Sometimes on the most dangerous roads in Asia.
Seriously! This channel has convinced me to the the 300 Rally.
I work really really hard almost a year to save and buying this Motorcycle. Every time i come here and watching all videos and giving me a power to work harder. ❤🎉
Get one yet ? I Got a barely used 018 black 250 rally , love the fkr ,i've had 5 other bikes this ones my fav and think about gettin the 300 .
Wow what a video just shows you don,t need a big fancy(expensive)adventure bike to cover the miles your 300 is seriously impressive, looking forward to your next upload with envy in the UK.
Man i swear since i switched to small bikes instead of big and powerful ones, i never came back, you have all you need to travel, and you have more fun when you go off-road, everything is easier and safer , no worries 100% fun
This is My dream brother 😍 ... traveling a over the world like this on motorcycle 🏍️
The 300 Rally is so impressive ! I just finished up a 1700 km 3 day trip myself and it performed phenomenally
Awesome! I've really been surprised by how capable the bike is. You should consider posting a video of your trip, I'd definitely watch👍 Safe travels my friend!
@@TrekEthos Unfortunately I don't have a gopro so all I have is pictures of the trip . I can say though that it was a about 70% Road and 30% dirt and was riding with ppl on big adventure bikes and it kept up really well with them on road and in the dirt
Sounds like a good amount of dirt - Glad to see you're getting the full use out of the bike!
Dude, just watched this video. OMG!!!! The scenery was breath taken. I have to try that very trip once in my life. I live in Ocala Fl and never seen land marks like that ever. Lucky you. Keep riding and making us these beautiful videos.
I can't get over the scenery. (And of course the bike works flawlessly too) . Great video and thank you for sharing with us
What an awesome trip and showcase for this crf 300! Picking mine on July 16th and this video just raised the hype-meter for me.
Good luck on that Oregon ride!
Congrats! Hope you get in some epic adventure rides with it👍
Great video! excellent footage with super drone shots, thank you for the open road and throttle vibes, accompanied with mellow tunes and a good eye on that sweet ride.
Appreciate the nice & thoughtful comment👍 Ride on my friend
Love this type of video! looking forward to seeing more of these bigger trips.
Thanks for the feedback👍 I'll look into producing more content like this
Wow. Thanks for sharing your journey my good Sir! So inspiring. Thank you!
This was a fantastic video!! Thank you for this.
Always impressed to watch stories like this, great job on the video quality too! There are so many people who ride bicycles around the world, crossing continents, Etc, so yea there is no motorcycle on earth that can’t be ridden likewise.
100% Agreed - Thanks for the nice words👍
What an epic journey--great videography, great music and it really shows what the CRF 300 Rally is capable of, although I am sure a bit more relaxed touring (versus high speed highway) would be its sweet spot. Still, though, the fact it was able cruise at higher speeds than what you'd typically go on this bike is impressive indeed. I love NW Montana (have been to Missoula and North of there on multiple occasions), and you need to be going 85 or so not to get run over up there. Great riding--thanks for producing this!
The versatility of this bike is really something! And I'd agree that Montana really is spectacular - Thanks for watching👍
Wow, great trip and video, much appreciated!
Had to sub after that vid
Scrolling down the comments and answers I found out everything I wanted to know about the rally and it’s all good
Great work with the vid and answers to questions, this is why I’m addicted to RUclips
Awesome, thank you!
What a sweet video. Thanks for making it.
Excellent! Absolutely excellent! Well done. Now I want to go.
My backside is numb just watching this video! Excellent job, looking forward to the Pacific coast one...I hope to do that soon.
haha yeah this was an exercise in perseverance through the discomfort👍 Thanks for watching!
Beautifully done. 👏🏼
I love your video. Can't wait for your next adventure.
It’s the best of both worlds even had 84 mph on the clock, nice video thanks.
This is soo awesome!! I have a 2019 crf250l rally and have been wanting to see these take on some long distance! Love it! Awesome video!! Subscribed!
Thanks for the support & sub👍 Also you have great taste in motorcycles :)
Watch Itchy Boots she’s in South Africa on her 250l that bike has 34thou KMs on it 👍🏻
@@jamiesteele698 Yessss she is one of my favorite YT! and she got it used, its like a 05 or 06 bike. These bikes are just too awesome!
Thanks for taking us with you
Thanks for watching!
Great footage and sound track. One capable bike. 👍
Well that answers my questions about how capable the bike is when an interstate highway is unavoidable. Great video. I hope your Oregon coast cruise allows for a slower more enjoyable pace. I can’t wait to get my Rally later this year. Take care. I look forward to your next posts.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! - I agree, the Oregon coast trip should be more laid back & a natural fit for the 300L Rally with 60mph two lane roads. I can't believe how long some people are waiting for their CRF300Ls - hopefully you get yours soon👍
Amazing ride man. Great footage.
Glad you enjoyed it🍻
Absolutely beautiful video mate. I couldn't decide on the T7 or the 300 rally due to cruising speeds, watching your video shows the 300 will be more than fine.
Would also love to see a video of your setup, GPS etc
Nice bike and ride, thanks for sharing!
Just got my crf rally and I love it!!
Fantastic video, and just like a previous comment Honda need to see this as its a fantastic opportunity for them to show how versitile this bike is. I tried one out last weekend and `I'm definitely going to buy one. Your video has confirmed this can cover miles at a reasonable pace. Thanks for sharing 😀👍🏻 Oh and subscribed
Thanks man I appreciate that👍 It really is the versatility that makes me love the bike - It doesn't do any one thing the best but it can do it all - Thanks for watching and the sub, safe riding out there!
I enjoy your trips.
I really like your editing. And in this vid the bike noises (engine/wind) were not too loud which is great.
Amazing adventure!!
respect to both the rider and his machine
This Honda bike looks beautiful.
Awesome. Ride safe always.
Great video, savage riding 👊
Thanks man, I appreciate the positive vibes👍
This is a very cool video. Thanks
Hondas marketing team owes you a ton of money. I too will be buying a crf300 rally because of your videos.
Fantastic video, thank you very much
Great video!!
Nice trip and video. Thanks
Thanks for the nice words👍
Really well done.
👍
NIce video, thanks for posting!
I'm wondering how comfortable were you doing this ride and how was the wind blast, or vibration from the handlebars foot pegs?
Very impressive!
My stomping grounds, so good to see them through your CRF300L Rally lens!! :{)
Excellent ride video!
You've got a new subscriber with a KLX300S, because this video was THAT Good.
Love this comment👍 Thanks for coming along on my journey - Hope you've been able to take your new Kawasaki on your own adventure!
@@TrekEthos Thanks! Lately I haven’t been on the KLX as much as I like. I’m mostly commuting on a Pan America between San Luis Obispo and Humboldt County California these days. I need to get on the KLX and have some dual sport fun!
@@pinkiewerewolf Sounds like you have a sweet stable of bikes! Seems like a Pan America and a KLX would pair really nicely to cover a wide range of riding scenarios.
@@TrekEthos It really is a good combo. I like the lightweight dual sport bikes for true all around riding. I think the KLX and CRF300 lineup are coming really close to giving motorcyclist that unicorn bike that we all dream of.
You have helped answer my question. I've ordered a 300 Rally (here in The Netherlands) but must wait until the end of August for delivery. In the meantime I had been wondering if the Rally would be up to the distances that you undertook and at what speeds. Your 'post' has dispelled any doubts that the long wait had initiated in my impatient mind. Europe here I come...for a late season safari!
Thanks.
Glad to hear the video was helpful! Have fun traveling Europe; it sounds like a great time👍
Ur vid sealed the deal. I'ma order one
6:08 love this moment. The other motorist turns their head as you pull up to give the signal. Classy.
Me too. He was so psyched to see a biker brother...
Great video, I want a abs equiped rally so bad. Was shocked to see a bike able to do highway speeds and dirt, with such long maintenance intervals. Was 80 mph hard to maintain? I need at least 75 to keep up around here. 80 is looking for trouble, but needed to pass.
Awesome video dude!! Little bike getting it done on the highway. About 84 or 85mph sweet! :)
Thanks for your continual support man! This little bike is capable of big things :)
Pretty cool, I did a trip from San Francisco to Eastern Washington. Its pretty dang far. Was fun but I was really sore. Took me two days going each way. I was surprised how much the weather changed and how powerful wind can be. 38 degrees in fog to over 100 degrees. 38F in fog is Freaking cold!! haha. The aero of the bike makes a big difference, I have a windshield installed and used some cardboard to block off some areas. Its awesome being exposed to nature on a bike. You really feel there, instead of sitting in a car which feels more like watching a tv screen. Oh and the smells, that's one of the neat things on a bike. ha!
Living in the UK🇬🇧 I'm absolutely in awe of how big and beautiful the USA🇺🇸 is . 1000 miles is the total length of the UK
Thanks! I did not realize that was the total length of the UK - Puts things a bit more in perspective. Hope you get to come out to America sometime and experience all the natural beauty here👍
What a great video, and what a fantastic little bike. Just goes to show you don't need a 300kg mega expensive bike to see far away places. Thank you.
Have an 09 Goldwing and a 2020 crf250L, love both and working up to a trip to the Smokey Mountains on the 250L. I love both bikes for different reasons. 73, Mike
Pretty cool watching your journey. I am from Spokane and all of these places I have traveled before. Well done man
Thanks👍 As you're a local, do you have any recommendations for different places to travel around the Spokane area?
@@TrekEthos for sure man. Some of my favorite places around town are Seven mile ORV park, MT Spokane, Green bluff, and I love Couer d’alene for the views
@@ShakeNBlake509 Appreciate it - That's honestly good info I can use on a future trip. Safe riding man🍻
@@TrekEthos you too brotha 👍
Very nicely done Sir. 😎👍
I appreciate the support man! - Hope you're getting in some good travels with your rally👍
After years of wanting a bike, I’ve decided I’m taking the plunge. The rally is on my short list and seems it fills my imagined role nicely. Planning on buy a camper and traveling so having a lightweight bike to explore with would just make the experience better
I'd have to agree with your reasoning here - The Rally does seem like a good bike to pair with a camper for traveling + exploration. I'd also say that the Rally is a ridiculously easy bike to ride: Low seat height, low weight, light clutch, hard to stall, won't wheelie on power, & relatively smooth power delivery makes it a great first bike. Ride safe my friend🍻
Great filming
Thanks for your support👍
I really enjoyed that....thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey man! You rock!
If Honda had been smart they would have made a solid reliable motor in the CRF 450L instead of a motor that needs a lot of maintenance. Great video
Your videos on the 300 Rally have been the tipping point for me to go and get one. Kudos and respect for the riding you have done on this bike. Amazing! What modifications do you think are worthwhile for the rally?
I read the suspension is the weak spot.....I think I want one now too...
nice adventure you did
Very well done
Incredible👍
Thanks! Glad you liked it👍
A great video and very relaxing. The little guy did very well considering all the freeway/highway riding for hours on end, hour after hour. You had a few breaks for off road riding which must have broken the monotony. For me I would like some thing with just a little more power riding those large distances on the highway, but not a huge amount of weight whilst still retaining the light feel for when off road. The US is a beautiful country and big!
Yeah, I'd actually agree with you that the bike could use a bit more power. As I see it though, there is no alternative motorcycle currently available that would work better for my needs. If Honda comes out with a CRF450L Rally with long service intervals, I'll be first in line🍻
I want this bike even more now ...!!!
Bought a ‘17 250 rally for my first ever bike. I really wanted a 300 after all the improvements over the 250 mostly because of inflated used prices, but couldn’t find one available. Ended up getting a decent deal on the 250 I have. I loved this video, it inspires me to get out even more, but I can’t imagine getting my 250 up to 80mph or spending any serious time on an interstate. Either you are a much better and much lighter rider than me, or the 300 is a serious upgrade to the 250!
The 300 is essentially like putting the Big Bore kit on the 250
I'm definitely no better rider than you - I'm just a regular guy. I'd say I'm about 195lbs fully geared up. I don't have direct experience with the 2017 Rally so I can't directly comment on how it compares with that. I will say though that I did dyno test the bike (you can find the video on my channel) and it makes about 28 hp at the crank so not a whole lot of power. The bike did fine at the higher speeds but was at its limit - I think the more natural cruising speed of the bike is around 70-75 mph. Glad to hear that the video inspires you👍
Good job on this beautiful video, maybe a little bit more off road footage and its perfect CRF300L Rally advertisement :)
Really would be interested to join you sometime on one of these trips. You amaze me!
Awesome , thanks 👍😎
Hi I'm trying to decide between this bike and also a Kawasaki Versys 300 for touring on road and off, also to commute ona highway about 50km round trip to work. Would this be comfortable enough riding everyday? Probably more a go anywhere bike...
Honda is proving once again that it is simply number 1 even on small displacements. / with the Rally300L you can go around the world on any terrain, spending very little on petrol and maintenance. GREAT BIKE, I'll buy it too
I know I'm late to the party commenting but I can't wait to get my Rally out on the road. I have it all fitted the way I want now, and am going to start trips around Oregon in a couple weeks, I'm in Eugene. I have a GoPro 8 Black and a 360Go 2 so I should be able to get some good video. I can't wait to get the show on the road! My Rally has 30 miles on it now 😀
Man I know this feeling - Getting a new bike and just waiting to get it out on the road... Best of luck with your new Rally & ride safe my friend👍
Epic travels. I like how you seem to come back to the 300 as your all around bike. Im down to 3rd on the list at my local dealer! What are you running for tires?
Beautiful footage! Would you mind sharing what you carry in your flat-tire repair kit?
Keep it up 👍🏻 very nice
Great video and very nice bike. How many miles could you done with a full tank between refueling? Thank.
Thanks Francois - bike gets about 200 -230 miles per tank depending on riding conditions.
同じバイクに乗ってます。私もいつかこの動画の様な素敵な旅をしてみたい。
Great vid mate, can’t wait for
mine to arrive. Was the Garmin hard to install?
Thanks! No the Garmin was pretty straightforward to install. You have to remove the seat, side cover, and the left side fairing. There is a good amount of room to route the cable under the body panels. Hope you get your Honda soon👍
as a cb300r owner, if the crf300l speedometer is 10% optimistic as well and gears quite short too, i suggest +1 front sprocket, less buzy highway ride and much more accurate speedometer reading (from 10% to 2.5% off).
it will sacrifice some low speed off road riding but on the road it becomes more usable and relaxed
I loved the video and am giving serious thought to this bike. My question: how did you feel after riding all day on the bike? Thanks for the video.
I have actually just done a similar ride this last week, riding 1200 miles in 36 hours on the Honda. I felt fine after riding that distance and was ready to go the next day. I don't have a problem with riding this bike all day. Rider comfort is a really subjective thing though so your mileage may vary.
Nice... I have a 2015 CB 500X with a Rally Raid kit (installed by prior owner), which I love, but I'm kind of obsessed with the 300L Rally. Very cool bike, imo ✌️
A CB500X with the Rally Raid kit would make for a good adv bike setup. The CRF300L Rally is a really versatile thing that works well on and off road but has its own limitations with its 28hp. Both are great bikes in there own way👍 Thanks for watching the video
I’ve got both, it’s the way to go!
@@grindlex9 Me too (250 rally) , I actually prefer the Rally for overall ride comfort and ergo's. but I like the 500 (471 cc) as well. But I hate the wind buffering on the CB, so I am still to sort that out. Ps I have seen you channel and have checked some of your content. Keep up the good work...; )
@@wave6413 I’m pretty happy on both, my CB is a 2013 and I have the screen in the low position, I tried it in the upper position and it seemed much worse. I’m sure they have big aftermarket screens available, but I like the clean air on my helmet, which makes buffeting worse in highway traffic
I'm still deciding between the 300L and Rally version. Thanks for such a great video on the Rally.
Glad you found the video helpful! - This video definitely showcases what makes the Rally great. I would never have attempted this with the non Rally. The windscreen, fairing, & larger fuel tank really make a difference for longer distance riding. Ultimately though, it depends on what suits you best as a rider👍
Excellent video.
Look forward to more.
What tank bag are you using?
Could you perhaps film a bit over your GPS? It was blocking the view and I was stretching my neck to look over 😀
It's a Nelson Rigg Hurricane Adventure Waterproof Tank Bag - I only have about 1500 miles on it so far so I can't say too much about its long term wear but so far it's worked well for me. Yeah I know what you mean about the GoPro footage - the GPS unit is right in your natural sight line. I'll experiment with a helmet mount to see if that works better.
Bravo!!!
That was an awesome video! Great work! One heck of a trip too!
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!
Your style of filmmaking is very pleasing and I love how capable that little bike is over long stretches. I was wondering, what is the little light on top of your dash which is sometimes flashing and sometimes not?
Best regards from the Netherlands, ride safe.
Thank you👍 The blinking light is a programmable shift light that comes on the CRF300L & Rally. I've never changed the stock shift light settings on the bike which are setup for getting good fuel economy. Yes, ride safe my friend.
i have a Rally 250 since 3 years and 92.000 kilometers without problems :)
wow thank you very much ;)
I just recently found your channel and have been watching your videos. Love them! I’m looking for a 300L ABS. How many miles do you have on yours now? Any issues with it?
Thanks🍻 I still have right around 9000 miles on mine. Over the winter I don't travel and for my day to day riding (commute and errands) I've been using the T7. The bike has not had any issues and nothing has worn out prematurely. The only limitation I've found on the bike was the overheating incident that I made a video about. Definitely no regrets about buying the Rally as it's my favorite light weight adv bike I've owned.
Awesome! Seems like a really cool bike. Looking forward to getting one for myself if dealers ever get them back in stock 😛. Been calling dealers all over the PNW and nobody has them.
Wow! Must be a great burger joint! That was an impressive trip with so many neat stops along the way. It's trips like yours that have me so excited to be getting my Rally in January! (Hope it gets in by then). Are you still running the stock tires?
Thanks! I switched the stock tires to Dunlop D605s and then back to the stock IRCs. I actually like the stock 50/50 tires for my on road/off road travel style. Congrats on selecting the Rally! I don't think most people realize just how capable the bike is👍
Great video, friend. I live in SW Washington, this looks like a great road trip, perfect for a dual sport. What is the off-road section in Banks Lake called?
Thanks buddy🍻 That was random dirt road exploring in Steamboat Rock - GPS coordinates here: 47.84695510395472, -119.14789960647386
How did you lube your chain on the go? Does it have a center stand?
Awesome video, approximately how many miles per tank? Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the nice comment! - bike gets about 200 -230 miles per tank depending on riding conditions.
