- Riding my 2021 Honda CRF300L Rally 1000 miles in one day. After completing the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route I had to ride 1000 miles in a day in order to get to work the next day. This video follows my road trip from Richfield Utah, to the Great Salt Lake, to Twin Falls Idaho, through Oregon, into Washington, over the Cascade Mountains and finally to Everett Washington.

Motorcycle reviewers on RUclips. "Honda CRF300 is not for riding more than 30 minutes on road". This dude "Okay, Hold my beer!!"
Man, the fact you managed to clock so many miles in a day on a CRF300 alone is impressive. That you also made a short movie about it blows my mind. Well done!!!
Some people are just really efficient.
Legend says he finished the editing before going to bed that day.
Exactly my thoughts! How were you able to ride more than 15 hours on the CRF300 is extraordinary! Bravo!
I managed 1100 miles one day in my youth on a yamaha 750. Took 3 day to recover!
That’s what I said!! Truly awesome!
I barely had 1000mi on my ADV150 after having it for 7mos! To be fair, it was in the shop for almost 3mos, so I didn’t get to actually get to enjoy riding until I got it back. Got right over 7k miles right now, but don’t plan on putting over 15k on it considering I want to sell it after I pay it off and get me the CRF300L next year 😉
Had some douche say to me, “Wow 7k miles isn’t anything to brag about” and I was like well duh dipsht
I want to resell it (considering you usually get less value on a trade in) & our winter here in TN was awful so 🤷🏼♀️ 🤣
High, a good ride. In the summer of 1980 i was riding with a XT500 a long distance too. It was fron Valencia to Hamburg in 36 hours. When i arrived, i was going to sleep at once. And when i was awaking again a lot of hours later, i was wearing my helmet :-) Kindly Fiete
LOL 🤣😆 SO FUNNY.
I would still have my boots on!

I still ride a 82 xt550
I have literally watched hundreds of videos deciding what bike to get, and this is the one that settled it for me. Made that shit look majestic af.
Same couldn’t decide between the klx 300 or crf I guess I have my answer
That is crazy. That you could ride 16 hours straight. I am toast after six hours. The 300L is also pretty amazing. It did 1000 miles with the throttle pretty much pinned. I also have the Rally but with only 200 miles, this has given me new found respect for the bike. Thanks for sharing, that was inspirational.
I love that you have both the 300L and the Rally👍 Yeah these are amazing little bikes that are way more capable than most people realize! Thanks for the nice words - ride safe buddy!
Wow, impressive. Did you have to adjust or lube your chain at all?
my current record is 300 miles onroad with cb300r (so road tires but short sporty suspension and no windshield at all), country roads/mountain roads, caught rain, high mountain chilly wind and get back home just before night, so i can just imagine how over 3 times more could be
The 300L is less suitable for such a roadtrip due to its small tank.
@@worldhello1234 mostly lack of windshield
To the 7 people who clicked thumbs down: Get a life.
Seriously, mad props. 1000+ miles in any vehicle is impressive. On a 300cc dual sport? Solid.
And you solidified the decision for my next purchase.
Exactly.... XT250 is gonna be upgraded! Honda should by paying this gent!
I have never understood this. You don't get on the uploads of one's positive experiences and piss all over it. I have never rode a dualsport style ride that could ever match this. And he stopped along the way to send the quadcopter up for some really stunning video and shared it all with us. BTW Honda is the best! I wouldn't get out into some of these territories with anything else! Most reliable/dependable bikes I've ever rode!
I have a 21 CRF 450 RL.....it would kill me if I tried 1000 miles lol. Plus it would need an oil change by lunch time haha.
Thats some machine......
Right! That's one thing that drew me to the CRF300 and 250 before it: A much more livable maintenance schedule. (Albeit a less capable bike...)
I received the "official"John Wayne Hard Arse Riding Award a few years ago after riding my 250 Rally 750km in one day... Kilometers! Not miles! Of course, I awarded it to myself...lol... However, I now pass this coveted award on to you Sir... Upgraded with Oak leaves! Well done indeed. Lol
Riding all that time with the throttle almost pinned is amazing. Nothing beats Honda quality! I think my next bike will be a 300 Rally!
Same here. I am thinking of getting one
me too
I was on the edge thinking about getting a 300L Rally, this video just slingshotted me about 1000 miles over it. Definitely getting one as an upgrade to my TW200 now. Any doubts as to the road ability of the 300L were completely vaporized by this video.
Noraly, aka itchyboots took hers from South America to Prudhoe Bay. When mechanics tore down hers the engine looked brand new and 99% of repairs were wear items. The one exception was the secondary shaft replacement, where an aftermarket sprocket had damaged it due to improper fit.
@@carpathiandevila tw200/crf 300 rally combo would be super sick. One is perfect for messing around at home, especially if you live out in the country, the other bike is for everything else.
😲 I drive an asphalt truck and just drove 440mi today..and didn't take drone shots n refuel...I'm living vicariously through your adventures..thanx for making vids for us to go with you👍
You know what traveling like this feels like better than most than👍 I respect what you do man as I don't have to ride 440 miles day after day after day. Thanks man & stay safe out there on the road
Thanks, Tom Sanda for what you and other truckers do
I rode 730 miles in one day last week on my KLR, and I thought that was a long day. Wow, my hats off to you sir. Glad you made it home safe and sound.
Ride safe.
Thanks buddy👍 730 miles on a KLR is impressive (I used to own one & find the Honda more comfortable on highway). Ride safe my friend!
730 miles in one day on a KLR is a long way! Hats off to you too sir!
Thanks man! We just got back two weeks ago from our annual ride, and we clocked 759 miles on day. A new personal record for one day on the KLR. @@marclyons8637
I hope you collected receipts and such and submitted for a IBA Saddlesore 1000. You deserve some type of offical recognition for your efforts. Great vid as well!
I have been trying to work up to an SS1k on my KLR for about 18 months. This is incredible.
Just for completeness, I went and checked the IBA big list. There are 45 instances of “CRF” in the list. Only 3 aren’t crf1000’s (Africa twins). 3 people in the many tens of thousands who have done an IBA ride have done it on a similar bike (all CRF250 rally’s- I assume because the 300 is a newer model and hasn’t had time to be ridden yet)
@@dumntuftv8853 agreed. It may not have been his intent to do a SS1009, why not submit the documentation? As a coincidence I'm working on doing a SS1000 on my KLR as well
Brutal, I rode a Honda Hawk 400 in 79 from Vegas to NYC in 3 days, and my back still hurts.
Unbelievable! So glad you made it back safely. Appreciated your taking the time for some drone footage as the views were incredible.
Thanks buddy! I appreciate the kind words & I'm glad you enjoyed the video🍻
Thanks for the wonderful video. I am 65 and just purchased a 300 Rally. I am new to the dual sports world (rode a vstrom for the last 15 years) I have been hesitant to plan long trips on my new bike but after watching your video I realize this bike is plenty capable at long highway cruising. Thanks so much for sharing.
Love to see how it compares to a vstrom as I had one and know the good and bad points of this bike.
Well done Mark. I just started riding this yr at 61 yrs ... in Nepal... which is challenging and scenic! Riding a Chinese built Motorhead 250 Tekken... similar kind of bike. This is insanity to me lol. I've done nearly 3 hours straight and that was the most for me. You must have the concentration of a supercomputer and the buns of steel. And you still took time to do drone shots. It's just incredible. Ride on and ride safe.
I have done several 10+ hour rides in my life, but always on a bike with a comfy seat, and my butt still got mad at me. I can only imagine on the rally that it would have been worse!
I am very impressed.
These kinds of rides are hardcore, but absolutely possible. If three hours in the saddle is really rough on you... toughen up, buttercup!
After 12 hours even balancing at low speeds becomes very hard. Dangerous as hell, i don't recommend it.
The buns just go numb at some point.
His seat was the one who got sore
This offroad motorcycle is an incredible onroad machine ! I'm riding my brand new CRF300L in the city area, and it's so nimble and easy to ride ! These stock tires are amazing onroad...
They are! I love my WR250R onroad around town, and keep telling people they should not overlook smaller dual-sports.
What tires is he using? could this work in all type of environments? how about rain added to this onroad ride? will those tires still work?
What a absolutely stunning video you made for our pleasure! The scenery, the editing, music, aerial shots, just all of it - truly simple and elegant!
What an adventure, mate. More than 1.000 miles in one day… respect! Thanks for sharing. Ride safe!
Awesome video! Crazy, long ride. Way to go and thanks for posting. Love your drone footage.
That's one heck of a ride. Great video, especially from the drone. Thanks for making and posting this video.
wow, what an epic ride! You have some incredible stamina! beautiful drone work too! hope you got plenty of breaks! Ride safe!
Every time I think I need a bike bigger than my DRZ400...I see something like this and realize I have the right bike, and just need to make a few adjustments. Well done!
Dude I commute a 100 miles a day on the drz 40 miles highway speed 70 miles a hour 6200rpm she just keeps going.
@@jessecrawford2711 that's awesome. Mine has 25k on it. Everything is good so I'm hoping for 25k more. :)
@@pedalstomper78 right on
Well, one of the good things about the CRF300 is that it is geared high and has a sixth gear, so it can do highway pretty well. I used to have a DRZ400, and the close-ratio 5-speed trans. was a pain on the highway, bike was always screaming even at 65mph. I sold it and got a DR650, which is MUCH nicer on the highway and doesn't even break a sweat cruising at 80mph.
whoah! that's some cool scenery! thank you for uploading this video! you gained another subscriber! keep up the great work and cheers from Italy!!

This is a unique editing style that I never saw on youtube. Hat down to you ! Incredible how the scenery changes, what vast beautiful country! Bravo sir and hello from Romania!
Respect! I did a 500 mile day on mine and could barely get off the bike at the end! And you did it with the stock seat as well! My 300 Rally has done 7,500 miles now and feels like it'll go forever.
Glad to hear you're getting proper use out of your Rally too🍻 - I don't think most people realize how capable these little bikes are - Ride safe my friend👍
You also need an Iron ass to do this! ;-)

I have the CRF300L. I’m so impressed by this epic ride. That really took a lot of work getting that in I’m sure
This country is so big and need us to explore it. Definitely beautiful video and insane riding you did. I love it man. Ride safe brother!
Way to get after it, great trip! Cheers brother.
Fantastic video and hugely impressive on the little Honda. Loved the way you made the video about the bike, the trip and the beautiful country and not about trying to be a 'RUclips' star. One of the best I've seen and will certainly look out for more of your work. Superb.
Thanks buddy👍 I really appreciate the thoughtful comment! You are correct regarding how I make the videos. They are made to capture the "feeling" of what it's like traveling on a motorcycle - the videos aren't about me at all.
Absolutely outstanding!!!! Thank you for sharing sir.
Thanks man👍 Glad you liked it🍻
Truly epic. The fact that you did such good drone shots also shows you are made of something else.
That view is simply stunning. Respect to you sir!
As a rider who has completed a 750 mile day on a KLR I raise my glass in salute, you sir are made of strong stuff!
Any advice for long distance KLRing? Working on getting mine set up for that
@@danmanthe9335 A good seat for your buns, at highway speeds be careful on the oil burn & watch your gas consumption. The stock front fender is a bit of a sail & can make the front end rather uneasy but lots of cheap options to upgrade, Google is your friend there. Good luck, you'll make it.
If I remember correctly the iron butt challenge is riding 1000 miles in one day. You took it one step further on the dual sport with a 2x4 seat! Great job! Congrats
I completed the iron butt challenge on a 2019 road glide and it was still pretty miserable for the lower back. I couldn’t imagine doing that on a dual sport.
@@dylansmith5868 I did it on a road glide, but it was 15yrs ago. Driver back rest & highway pegs made it suck less.
@@dylansmith5868 Yeah, 400 miles in a day is as much as I would plan for enjoyment. (Even on a bigger bike.) If I'm exceeding that it's to get somewhere.
@@dylansmith5868 Took it in 2020 in November with my old Tranny (1989 Transalp)... Freezing cold, no heated gear or heated grips just Monster Energy Drinks and Dextro-Energy tabs. 3am to 1am the next Day. Only 3 Stops (apart from Fuel Stops).
I did a ss1000 years ago on a CBR600. A buddy joined me on his DR650. Both bikes were completely stock and worked great. They each had pros & cons as far as comfort but I’m not sure which was really better.
Thanks to RUclips for pointing my algorithm here. DANG! That’s an epic day. I have done 1000 in a day going from South Carolina to Massachusetts in a day to be at work the next day. Same weather the whole way home made the trip enjoyable as your trip was. Great edit and bonus drone footage. Subscribed and shared.
Epic journey. Spectacular video. Beautiful job.
Incredible. Rode 900klms (around 680 miles) on my MT09 this summer in one day down through Spain and thought that was good going. Well done and just shows how great the Honda bikes are.
That was awesome. Loved the way you picturized your journey without saying a word. Someone like me (shy) could definitely use this technique.
Love from India. ❤️
Well done! Video was excellent and informative. Thanks for sharing
superb quality vid! the scenes are real beautiful, pleasant background music, and your cinematography techniques are great too
A 1000 mile day is NO JOKE. Particularly as the icing on a nice ADV ride cake. Good work and great footage of your journey. That 300 Rally spent some time really spinning that day.
I’m impressed. I do a similar route each year. I ride from Portland to south of Salt Lake to visit my daughter - 835 miles. I do it on a big BMW GS1200 which is much easier. I’m impressed you found time to get drone shots. Great job.
Excellent video, and fantastic ride. You easily qualify for the iron butt. I am sure you kept your receipts and the video backs up what you did. I am greatly impressed. In July I rode my '14 Harley Ultra Classic, from CA to Red Lodge Mt. nearly 1400 miles each way. I spent 3 days riding each way, averaging about 500 miles per day. I also tent camped the entire trip. I was very tired at the end of each days riding, so I can only imagine how you felt. You mentioned at one point you were almost in a trance like state, I totally get that.
I have also been thinking of a future ADV bike, but am not interested in the heavy pigs most ride, not for any off roading. I have been leaning towards the 250 class, and this makes the300L a solid contender. You AND the bike are very impressive.
Loved the aerial shots too. Job well done.
Awesome video. Huge respect. Great scenery. Reminds me of my euro trip several years ago. I’m now considering buying this bike. Greetings from London…👍
Impressed by both the riding and the video editing. That you did that on the stock seat is amazing. Just came back from the Oregon coast and thought of your other video while driving my car down 101. I'll be selling the WR250R for either the 300L or the PR7 when the supply lines start working again and will do that Oregon trip. Not up to a 1,000 mile jaunt.
Thanks buddy👍 Haven't seen you on here in awhile. I still got my WR, it's a better bike in some ways to the Honda but for longer distance travel the Honda has the clear edge. I've never ridden anything like the PR7 before, I suspect that would be on a whole different level. The 101 makes for a great motorcycle route - Ride safe
What a magnificently made video. And your 'little' 300 Honda just kept pounding out a steady 80 mph run mile after mile. Thank you for putting in the fuel stops, and the miles ridden in the video too. For some crazy reason, bike manufacturers are hung on that refill every 150 miles max nonsense. The drone shots, the editing, the music, the change in video speed in some shots, everything added up to an outstanding video experience. Well done. And Well Done to your trusty Honda too. Just Wow.
I have watched this several times my hats off to you and that little bike that is one tough little bike
Amazing ride my friend, the drone shots are so nice man!
Another 1 more quality video, ride safe sir
Thanks buddy👍 Appreciate it!
Wow, nice ride & very similar to what I did a few years back. And lots of people say you need a big cruiser to do those miles. I was on a F650CS single and took off from Spokane Wa, (BMW Rally) about 5am to near Napa Ca, about 980 miles in about 15 hours. I tried to keep it as fast as possible (about 75 mph) without getting pulled over. It took about 6 fillups & I averaged 63 mpg for the trip. I had absolutely no problems except very sore inner thighs from the seat. I have an 800 twin now, but that single 650 was the best handling bike I ever owned and a pleasure to ride long distances or short. Next time I may try that little Honda. Thanks.
Hell yeah brother!! That last 100 miles is a brut! I rode from Sturgis to Lynnwood in one day a couple years back on a sportster. I've since ditched the Harley in favor of a dual sport. Cool to see the same kind of milage is achievable on the new Honda!! Good job man!!
Wow....amazing effort, well done! I have done several 1000km days on different bikes but what you did is next level. I have a CRF250 Rally and love the bike on and off road, also have an 06 Blackbird.
That was badass! I wouldn't trust a lot of other bikes to handle being basically redlined all day long with no issues, especially dual sports. I'm mainly a sport bike guy but definitely looking at getting one of these 300L Rally models in the future!
Just sold my africa twin and considering buying a rally!
Massive respect, that’s a hell of a lot of miles for a small engine and from what I’ve seen the seat leaves a bit to be desired on a journey of that magnitude. Loved every minute of the vid, in short the whole gig was bloody awesome. Glad you made it back safe
Respect well deserved. Also nicely done video with great drone shoots!!
What a great video!! Thanx, from those Who can only dream a ride like that
Savage riding mate, & what a bike. 👍👍 from a crf300l owner in Ireland.
Thanks man!🍻 Ride safe!
I drove that in a comfortable car early September and thought how horrible that ride would be on a motorcycle. Wasn't it awesome in some of those areas where there was no sign of life in the hills. Salt Lake City had some crazy drivers there also. I made a special trip during busy hours to get to the Olympic Oval to skate my first long track indoor ice. Ventured to Missouri for a wedding, Wisconsin to visit family and bring someone back home. Big rink in Milwaukee also. and then the big drive back home to Camano Island. Those of you that can handle that kind of mileage have my respect. That's some hard riding. :)
You sound well traveled buddy👍 I'm always surprised by how little people travel our beautiful country by road - It's all there free for the taking and people don't do it. Ride safe!

Great story, epic adventure, and very nice production values on the video. Another awesome video. I love how you tell your story with subtitles! None of the other dual sport content creators do it the way you do. Keep doing this! Your style is perfect.
How were you loaded for this trip? It looks like just a duffle on a tail rack. That seems like a light setup for BDR’s, which usually consists of a lot of camping. Did you skip camping and all the camp gear to hotel it?
Thanks for the thoughtful comment👍🍻 You are correct - I'm carrying very little gear. A lot of the tank bag & drybag on the rear is actually carrying film equipment to make the videos. I basically had food, water, tools, & and an extra pair of clothes - That's it. I've never actually traveled like this until I got this bike (I'd usually split between camping & hotel). The reason I run the bike this way is because the bike is barely powerful enough to work ok on the Highway - If I were to mount panniers in the airstream I honestly don't think I would be able to keep up with traffic on 75mph highways. The soft suspension also becomes more problematic the more weight you add to the bike. One of the cons of traveling like this though is that you have to be much more deliberate with your schedule, you can't just stop and camp for the night anywhere you want. Ride safe buddy👍
@@TrekEthos I have a set of Tusk 27liter aluminum bags on my 18' 250l and they don't seem to bother much unless it"s really windy. I've tried several test rides same day same conditions and usually end up within 1 to 3 miles per hour difference with or without the bags. I put a stronger spring on the rear to hold the extra weight. Awesome ride man. I've done a couple of 800 mile days on sportbikes but only 400 on my 250l. Kudos!!
Thanks this brings back memories as I have traveled over some of these roads.
In 2010 I flew from Sydney Australia to San Francisco.
I then picked up a hire Harley Davidson Ultra Glide and rode of to the rally in Sturgis SD.
So a list of some of the towns, city's etc I traveled through, Carson City, Ely, West Wendover, Salt Lake City, Rawlins, Casper, Gillet, Sturgis.
At Sturgis camped at there Buffalo Chip, saw Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, Pee-wee Herman plus other bands a great melting pot Stugis.
Going back to San Francisco was Spearfish, Gillette, Buffalo, Yellowstone Park, Idaho Falls, Boise, Burns, Bend, Eugine, Coos Bay then down H15 to pick up old highway 1 through the old giant redwoods then SF to catch a plane back to Australia. On the last day I covered over 500 miles and still got to see all the sights on my bucket list.

Yeah what's impressive to me is that he is running that bike completely wide open at top speed the whole time, for 1000 miles. That must be a very well-designed and very tough little engine, to be able to survive that without failing.
I can get 50ish MPG on my 1200cc, the mpg is not impressive for such a tiny bike.
Best you tube video till date...no words to appreciate. Legend of the legends 🙌 👏
I know the effort it took to do that ride AND make a great video as well. Liked and Subbed! I would have had a frosty margarita waiting!!!!
Отличный трип ! Классные эмоции, отличный байк, стальные яйца )) продолжай в том же духе парень ! Привет из Алматы
That is very impressive. Only bikers realise how hard it is... Cheers
