Then he died and let chi chi in their house alone for 6 months without knowing where her 5 year old was even worse that the guy who tried to kill her husband multiple times is the one responsible for him, that's not good parenting, after Namek freeza is dead instead of coming home to his family he chose to train for a full year in another planet, chi chi has to feed herself and Gohan pay for his studies with her father money cause Goku in all of the series never got a job he could have literally opened a martial fight gym and support his family but he never did even Yamcha tried to play professional baseball to support himself.
After the time skip chamber and "finding" his son true potential instead of talking to him about it he ignored his son nature no wonder Piccolo was pissed off, who sends a pacifist into a fight where he has to kill? There is more to talk about Goku but its not worth the rant.

Right at the start of the convo you can dismantle the whole thing. These are humans arguing for what a good HUMAN father is. SAIYANS are NOT human and raise their children COMPLETELY differently, often times hardly even being present. Goku, by Saiyan standards, is not only a great parent but an EXCEPTIONAL father, and he isn't even a bad father by human standards to begin with! Him dying (TWICE for the sake of his child) and thus not being around does NOT make him a bad dad, in fact it makes him a GREAT Dad. For as much as I love TeamFourStar I really hate that they popularized this concept.

if you think about it, the buu saga happened becasue goku decide that " hey, a tournament on earth would be nice. " . If goku isnt there vegeta wouldnt be a majin, because vegeta being a majin was a decision not submission, he was capable of resisting babidi spell at all and just decide to let him in because he's insecure about the gap between him and goku. so if goku never there vegeta and gohan would have a huge chance to prevent buu altogether, which prove goku was right with his decision.
and without buu thats mean no fat buu to annoy beerus (assuming beerus still get the dream and go to earth regardless of goku staying dead), and with buu still sealed its mean kid buu never get seperated from fat buu thus making moro a non threat since his seal would still be intact. the only problem that in theory will not solve itself without goku is zeno problem. without goku proposing a tournament zeno would just erase u7 without intervention. Goku was with the Gohan the first 4 years of his life. Goku whole reason of fighting raditz was to get Gohan back and died for Gohan. This is the same Goku that likes to fight strong opponents and that is reasoning. But for this fight he literally says he is doing this for Gohan.
When Goku comes back the first thing he does is save gohan for getting killed by the saiyans. Same thing for Frieza saga. Saves gohan and heals his broken neck and in doing so he also gets to fight someone strong.
In the cell saga Goku spends all of time with gohan, especially in the room of spirit of time. Goku was the only one to believe in gohan and knew what he could do. Yes he didn’t realize gohan didn’t like to fight but the thing is Gohan does like to train. That easily could be confusing on Goku part of not understanding that Gohan is a gentle person. Also when Goku has to sacrifice himself to clean up gohans mess, he doesn’t blame gohan even though he told him to hurry up and finish off cell. Goku then says he is going to stay dead to protect his friends and family from harm. Does that suck for Gohan, yes but sometimes parents do the hard stuff to protect their children.
Goku comes back and what he said in the cell saga happened. Majin buu was able to come back because in part of majin Vegeta wanting to fight Goku. If Goku didn’t come back that fight wouldn’t have happened and babadi would have still been gathering energy. But this entire arc Goku has a better understanding of Gohan and is around when he can be. After in super Gohan is an adult. Goten got to spend a lot of time with Goku when he came back alive and into super. But again the first 7 years he was protecting them.

Wtf is wrong with that guy? He must be a professional athlete considering the amount of hoops he's jumping through to make Goku out to be a bad father. Apparently dying for your children isn't enough to be considered a good parent (according to HIS standards apparently). Also he strategically chose to ignore things that happened off screen because if he DIDN'T then he would have no real argument against the fact that up to the point that Raditz showed up Goku had literally been there for Gohan since he was BORN.
As for the Cell Saga argument I think that's entirely unfair towards Goku, he realized just how much potential his son had and went out of his way to nurture his son's natural talent and strength. He literally put his son's growth before his own interest, if he was a more selfish person he could have focused entirely on himself and neglected Gohan's development...but he didn't. As for Piccolo telling Goku that Gohan didn't like to fight like it was the most obvious thing in the world, I'd argue the only reason HE knows that is because HE irresponsibly placed Gohan in dangerous situations MULTIPLE times up until Goku showed up in the Saiyan Saga. Goku may have made a mistake when giving Cell the bean however he only made that mistake because he was trying to help Gohan grow by setting him on a path he thought would lead to Gohan succeeding and he was arguably correct in the end.

Maybe it's not Goku hate that's the reason, though that definitely is a factor. It kind of feels like those attempts to analyze a story to find some throughline that would've went over our heads as a kid but end up going so far in the opposite direction it loops back around to being completely wrong and ridiculous.
It's like if someone took away from the Star Wars prequels that the Jedi were wrong and blinded by dogmatic service to the force which caused them to accidentally create their ultimate undoing in Anakin. 1.) It’s been established that in order to blow up a planet you need a power level of 10,000+. Raditz had a power level of 1200.
2.) Raditz came to Earth to recruit Goku and when Goku was unwilling Raditz made him an impossible offer: He kidnapped his son and told him to kill and stack on the beach of Roshi’s Island, 100 Earthlings by the next day. Now my fellow DB enthusiasts, what did Goku do immediately after Raditz pimped off with his son and that new information? To run the ones with his brother to get his son back. There was no hesitation. He even teamed up with his mortal enemy at the time to do it.

33:35 I believe that Goku giving Cell a Senzu bean was actually a High IQ move that goes over a lot of people's heads. Goku knew that Cell had Freeza AND Vegeta's DNA. Goku has fought both of them and knows their fighting style. He knows that when both of them think they have an advantage in a fight they won't take it seriously and will make unnecessary mistakes. Both of them could've killed Goku quickly if they seriously fought him at full power in the beginning of their Fights. Goku also knows that when Vegeta and Freeza think their opponent has an overwhelming advantage they crashout and try to blow up the planet.
Cell's overconfidence was what allowed Gohan the time necessary to achieve ssj2 in the first place. Side note: remember when Goku kept smiling while saying I knew it after Gohan went ssj2. Goku also warned Gohan to finish the fight quickly because he'd seen the pattern twice already and knew Cell was bout to crash out and blow up the Planet. EVEN THEN, Goku didn't blame Gohan. He took responsible for his mistake(not know Gohan didn't like to fight) and sacrificed himself to save Gohan.

  • @castform7

It feels like this guy doesn't really understand what a priority is. As an analogy I bring up Mario Galaxy. Bowser's ultimate goal is to take over the universe. Mario, in stopping him, saves the universe but his main priority is saving Peach. Getting Peach out of danger was the most important thing to him. Same for Goku. Stopping Raditz would save the planet but the main thing on Goku's mind is making sure Gohan is safe.
Is Goku a flawed father. Yes, he showed a lapse in understanding about what is son wanted on a monumental scale. But even once he learned about it, he gave his life up for it and was prepared to stay dead for the rest of eternity purely because he is that magnet for danger that he now wants to keep away from his son and everyone else.
Also the "just his imagination" point is in general stupid. We, in any dub of the anime, are shown Goku in Other World conversing through King Kai to Gohan. There isn't, nor should there be any ambiguity to if Goku was actually there or not. 5 year olds could probably pick this up.

He proceeds to kick Gohan, knocking him out, and approach him with energy gathering to finish the job. "Blow up the planet..." Raditz can decimate a city or two, but way less efficiently than Nappa and his Giant Storm. I mean, part of why he was heading to Earth was because he sucked at his job. 1. Gohan LOVES fighting. He's a half saiyan which they all love fighting. He just doesn't like fighting to the death like Goku. Goku said he's having fun even though he's in trouble. Gohan enjoys training. He just doesn't like hurting and killing.
    2. Goku was wrong for misjudging Gohans will to fight but was 100% correct that Gohan would beat Cell and was the only hope. If your son was the only person with the power to no diff the villain that no one can beat, would you make him go home or fight?
    3. Goku took up for Gohans mistake with that sacrifice
    4. Breaking the laws between life and death is pretty loose in the dbz universe and you gotta accept it. Talking to Gohan from the dead doesn't break any rules and only proves that he's a good dad.
Almost forgot: The senzu bean thing wasn't bad and you can't give a good explanation as to why it was. 1, Gohan could handle it 2, Gohan DID handle it. It made 0 difference. Making Gohan fight Cell = Lions making their cubs hunt or humans giving their pets live feedings. Except The cub/pet is stronger than you and the live feeding and if they don't take it out then the earth will be destroyed.

Goku in the end made the right choice in the cell saga because he was the only person beside gohan himself that knew what he was capable of when pushed into a corner. All it took was android 16 to explain that given the circumstances letting go of that kindness to protect the things you hold dear is okay.
Tbf, Gohan disliking fighting had no setup and no build up from a reader's perspective. Gohan was always shown to be one of the first people to the action, even if hopelessly outmatched, and at least enjoys training. It's more of a failure on Toriyama's part due to the lack of setup, but it's alright because it was a cool and iconic moment.
It was still a mistake on Goku's part (even Goku himself thinks it was), but it's a very forgivable one that's easy to make when not even the readers could've known about Gohan's dislike for fighting.

Even then he was shown to enjoy it when fighting the dinosaur during Piccolo's training, and when first arriving on Namek he highfives Krillen after beating up the Freiza soldiers that blew up the ship.
I'm not saying it's wrong for Gohan to dislike fighting, I'm saying that an important moment for Gohan's character didn't have the proper build up from the reader's perspective so it's forgivable for Goku to make that mistake.
Also Cell and Buu are the only characters he has to fight out of duty due to being the strongest one on earth during those times.

Same thing happened with all of the Android stuff. He wants to be able to fight alongside everyone and not be the deadweight that gets everyone killed trying to save him like against Nappa.
If it wasn't rage, it was a desire to not let a Nappa Wipe happen again, or make up for said wipe, pushing Gohan into combat. Plus the most apparent ones for both liking and disliking are in the Saiyan Saga, so they're pretty old.
For example; he enjoyed training with Goku and Piccolo, but it's much easier to interpret his enjoyment towards spending time with his father figures than him liking fighting.
I'm not arguing that he shouldn't dislike fighting or that he didn't fight out of necessity, but that he wasn't properly hinted at to dislike fighting for the purpose of building up to the moment he says it in the Cell Saga so Goku should be forgiven for making the mistake of sending him into battle.

@@espurrseyes42 I also didn't say that Namek wasn't done out of duty, and if I did then it was completely wrong. Gohan made it quite clear in the hospital scene that it was out of duty. Just to be clear.

The four dumbest things Dragonball fans say:
    1. Goku is a bad dad
    2. Piccolo is black/also he's Gohan's "real dad" despite having kidnapped him and stranding him in the wilderness for 6 months
    3. The dumbest Yamcha jokes they beat like a horse's skeleton
    4. CaN hE bEaT gOkU tHo? (The Nasuverse beats Goku, The Zodiac Knights from Saint Seiya beat Goku, Sailor Moon beats Goku, any Digimon ultimate level and above, beats Goku)

Maturity is realzing chichi is the reason gohan is half and half about fighting. Because there has been multiple moments where gohan would train on his own or enjoy getting stronger. Because it's deadass shown when gohan fought goku that he enjoy fighting with his dad. You can argue it was for the sake of the universe but it doesn't chnage that fact that gohan was still enjoying himself.. at the end of the day having a earthling mother who constantly wants you to study and be a scholar so you can have a big house and money vs having a father who likes to train and get stronger gives him an identity crisis

Note that Gohan wanted to go to namek so much he yelled at his mom, defend the namakiens of his own will, stop frieza even if it meant running the 1s, and during piccolos training he didnt throw him at obstacles that could realistically kill him.
Piccolo trains him after he just saw Gohan output more power than him or goku so he knows hes stronger than himself on a high end. Piccolo is training Gohan in the same environment he grew up in because its the only form of training he knows. He knows the sayins are coming and knows Gohan needs to be there to help protect the earth because piccolo understands hes not strong enough to do it himself.
And unlike Piccolos truly solitary childhood Gohan has someone looking after him at all times. Piccolo didnt abandon him in the valley he is in the air providing backup clothes and weapons any time he needs it.

After Cell Goku stopped pushing Gohan to fight ..gohan pushed himself against his mothers wishes because of the threat Buu posed

14:00 That guy seems to be forgetting/leaving 2 key details. It's not like Goku had a choice at the time. He was in the hospital, recovering. So Gohan straight up WANTED to go to Namek. Luckily Goku pulled up with sensu beans. This is him BEFORE learning instant Transmission too. I don't know where he got the idea Goku loved seeing Gohan in that condition, where he was worried for his friends in both Saiyan & Namek arcs. ( *Slight edit cause I rewatched the scene:* Goku even encourages Gohan to go, because he understood how much his friends meant to him. Another point about Goku & Gohan I'm bout to get into) Another is that Goku got the impression Gohan loves fighting, because his son was happy to train with him. Gohan even told his father to straight up hit him with everything he got, so he can finally protect himself & others. So you can say both instances Goku took it as not only he has a love for battles, but his son maturing, and got something to prove. That Namek & Cell saga comparasion was a huge reach. It was like that person who made the video only saw TFS, and saw that as the actual canon lol.
