      @@Clydewuf_ they're no strangers to "no fucking repairs, period. Not even paid repairs" in my country. If your console or controller malfunctions after the warranty expires, their costumer support chat will usually just tell you something along the lines of "unfortunately we don't do paid repairs", which is code for "buy a new one, lol"

    Replace the thermal paste if you haven't on both the cpu and gpu. Clean it while you got it pulled apart. There you go, it's fixed.

      @mac4thewin Год назад +76

      That doesn't really solve the issue u have to do what is called a delid on both chips as they have heat spreaders glued on top of them and it's the thermal paste between them and the actual chip that really needs replacing. Just doing the paste between the heatsink and them heat spreaders doesn't really help

    11 years on the fat model? Wow, that’s really impressive. My stepbrother had one of those, lasted him a few years I believe, Yellow Light Of Death happened. However, there was a family owned PS3 I was already on more times than not anyway and I still remember to this day with Black Ops 2 being initially stuck in that console and by the grace of God, I was somehow able to get that console on just long enough for it to eject the disc and then it died out for good. The Slim and Super Slim models, I never had any problems on.

      My FAT Ps3 still works after 15 Years. The only Problem is that the Blue Ray Drive is dying. The whole Ps3 hangs up after like 30-60 min. playtime with Disc Games. None such problems with downloaded games, so i guess it must be the drive. Guess i won't be replaying LBP 1&2 too soon.

      @@batcout8787 Well at least you got 5 years out of the Slim, so not that bad at all. I plan on getting a console collection once I get some things together and some extra money, I want to have a PS3 Slim for my living room and a PS3 Super Slim for my bedroom. I’m also aiming for getting another PS4 Slim and PS5 (digital for this next one since I already have the disc version) so I can have the collection for 2 of each console, for what space I’ll have for them all.

Actually, even my controllers are almost mint, still with the texture on the pads and the print not faded, which is very lucky. I havent been that easy on them, and I think I put in more hours on my PS3 then every other console Ive had put together, and I had a turbographx-16 at launch, just to give an idea how many Ive had. I have moment like this in 2022 when my PC from 2006 got so many errors. One day when I browsing, it froze and doesn't respond, its like it telling me "I'm sorry, I can't go anymore" then it just shutdown and I learn the PSU has died. How much I try to fix it, it never coming back. I have tears in my eyes and I hug it and say thank you. My friend laughing at me and I don't expect other people to understand its sentimental value. There is so many myspace page editing it helps me, so many Winamp tracks its played, I spend many days playing GTA Vice City on it when I was 13 in 2007, now its gone.
    I got a new PC but I still keep my old PC in my room and put it in a box. One day when I got a lot of money and can afford to resurrect it, I will bring it back.

    if you feel comfortable, you should definitely wire up a usb to TTL adapter and connect the wires to the syscon chip. it's a really basic job, even if you know nothing about soldering, just get yourself the cheapest iron that you can find and a bit of wire and you should be able to get the error codes from the console and determine what is its issue. its wirth the try!

    Delid both chips and replace that thermal paste between the heat spreaders and chip then thermal paste between heat spreaders and heat sink and it will run cool and quite again

      Some excellent videos on how to do it, LinusTechTips has some 😊👍

    If your processor still works and the ps3 is able to show video, you have some things you can do.
    Most common thing to happen in fat ps3 models is the failure of the cell processor, causing overheating, yellow light of death, depending on the problem you can fix it by reballing or changing the thermal paste and cleaning the fans obviously haha.
    There's also a really terrible problem which is the failure of the hdmi chip, dont have much knowdledge about this, but theres a certain failure that happens in most ps3 consoles, at least has happened to various ps3 slim that i have used, where problems start to gradually get worse, from audio being lost frequently, to video not being able to output other than 480p, to then video flickering and losing signal to eventually failing and not outputting any video.
    What to do, probably use the ps3 in low resolution modes aka 480p/480i, this problem is probably like a time bomb in every ps3 so take care haha. My ps3 died because of this, my brother has two ps3 slims, one of them is a pretty early model and hasnt presented any problems about that, but a newer model of him is also presenting some issues so he stopped using it haha. Weird

      i used 480p and video output but the quality was super shitty and i could barely make out a circle since its so pixelated and stretched

      Reflows are and have always been temporary, since as mentioned before, the problem’s with the component itself, not the material that connects it. Heat only rejuvenates the RSX temporarily before the die and substrate bumps crack again and your console dies.
