- A simple process on how to change "in air handler" filters for ICP fan coils/air handlers. What's shown should work with any ICP branded air handlers like : Bryant, Carrier, Heil, Tempstar, Payne, Weaterhmaker, etc.
I searched for twenty minutes for a simple answer, finally found it here. Thank you.
Finally a video where the filter is actually horizontal! My filter has wire in both sides (Filtrete 20x25x1, Merv 13, blue on the sides). “Air coming from the bottom and going up” did it for me. Arrow is pointing up. Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Thank youuu!! Finally someone that has clear direction! 😃
For me it was knowing how to put the little cover door back on correctly. It was upside down this whole time and I finally had to look up a video and luckily I came across this one. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I wasn't sure if I was install correctly. You've eased my mind.
Thank you I had been putting mine in upside down lol. .. it said air flow with an arrow, but I didn’t know which flow they were talking about in or out
Face the wire towards the unit. Very simple. Thanks.
I’m so confused. If I put the arrow pointing up towards the unit, the wire side is at the bottom 😢😢😢😢😢
Which why do I put it?? Wire side up or arrow pointing up towards the unit?
Sounds like a misprint, the wire mesh reinforces the media to aid in the filter not warping. I’d say wire on the unit side
Thanks I’ve been placing mine wrong for a year 😂
Thank you
Why does my filter sinks in when i place it in, was it supposed to do that?
Thank you. Very helpful.
Thank you!
How to know what size filter to use?
What ever the last one said on it
Mine was written with marker on opening of door
Thank you! Going to flip mine now lol
Ser this was so helpful. One question, we recently
Bought a townhome and there is not only an air filter seen here, but I found a carrier washable filter sitting on the ground. Do I use both of these filters?
Our recommendation is to filter air at one location.
My door has screws on each side that holds the door on . But on the door it says 20x22x1/4 and i can’t find a filter anywhere that size . So I bought a 20x22x1 and you can’t get them out you literally have to tear it up getting it out. What should I do . I just bought the house last year .
@AIR MAN I have a question, if you don’t mind. 🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️ My drain pipe is in front of that little door; I can remove the door, but the drain pipe prevents me from installing the filter. Do you have any tips on how I might be able to install it?
Sounds like the drain needs to be “rerouted” so it’s not blocking the filter from going in/coming out. You’d need some pvc cutters, pvc glue, different fittings and possibly some pipe. You can also contact a reputable licensed HVAC or Plumbing contractor for that specific task.
@@AIRMANHVAC Thank you for the quick reply, kind sir! I truly appreciate it! ♥️
You’re very welcome!
Got it thank you 😊
This helps!!! Thank you
Oh shit! I took it out the box! I was wondering why it was hard to come off. One filter wasted…🤦🏽♀️🥴🤣
When you pushed it in does it have a spring like mechanism? Mine just doesn’t seem like it can go in perfectly. Most of the time half of the filter gets sucked in.
I’d google your model number with filter size to make sure you have the recommended size…for example google or search for
FB4CNP036 filter size
Same, correct size filter, still gets sucked up into unit….going to call a/c people again….. going on 2 years
@@AIRMANHVAC are you in FL??
@@michaellisamcauliffe6041 Alabama. What’s the model number of your unit you’re putting the filter in?
I am going to try out those metal filter encasings and you put the filter in it. It should be strong enough to not get sucked in. Will let you know
I bought a new construction home with this AC unit installed. My question is how crap are they?
i’m a superintendent for kb homes. 5-10 years max if taken care of properly. never past warranty and they don’t make them like they use too sadly
If I have a filter down in the living space (mine is in the ceiling where the air get sucked in), do I still have one (a second one) in the furnace unit?
It’s best to filter the air once. You’ll have to check if you have one in both locations and remove one or the other.
Filtering air at the “air handler” is best practice in my opinion. This way insures that all of the air entering the unit has passed through the filter.
Whereas if the filter is at the start of a return duct and the duct has any leakage, that introduces unfiltered air into the return duct, air handler and supply duct.
@@AIRMANHVAC Thank you for answering. Hopefully people in your local area will see you care and give you some business. Since I posted, I opened up the unit and could not find a filter anywhere. The intake duct is round and flexible (not metal and squared) and runs clearly visible from the ceiling intake to the back of the upright furnace unit. It is taped and tie-strapped directly to the unit with no metal box or space where a filter could slide in. On the inside, it's wide open into the chamber so no filter there. So, I seem to have only the one in the ceiling. Your preference for one at the unit is 100% logical. Also, I feel reassured that a pro like you has said it's a possibility but not a certainty I have two. BTW, it's a 1050 square foot townhouse, so a small space and not so much air handling/flow. Goodman unit about 25 years old. Just wanted to share my story and thank you again for caring. Liked and subbed.
Mine is like this one but, it feels like it's stuck and not coming out.
My unit exactly like that one but the filter is wet all the time I check the drain pipe and is clean it looks come from the condenser 😢
Hello, is filter placement better on the the door of the ac closet or like in your video? My installer put a filter on the door and inder the unit. I think thats overkill, but he won't return my calls.
“Under the unit” is best. That way all/most of the air is being filtered.
@@AIRMANHVAC thank you and sub'd
Hi...question? My ac has 2 slots, one with the little door and one right under, where does my filter goes?
Our preference is the one with the little door…
Does anyone know where can I get that white pipe insulation?
what size is that filter because i was told one size and it was to big then another it was too long now the one i have is too short and i have the same carrier furnace u do
I am having the same problem. I bought the size that was in the unit.
Does the ac unit have to be turn off in order to open the filter door ?
It doesn’t have to be off. Keep in mind you’ll be running “unfiltered” air through the system/ductwork if you charge the filter while it’s operating.
On the filter is the dirty side on the bottom or top
For this application the filter will collect “dirt” on the bottom
@@AIRMANHVAC Thank you. I have a new Carrier unit since May. There is a metal filter that was installed. Is it ok to use paper filters from Home Depot or should I get a metal one.
@@b320i3 I use a merv 11 or 13 depending on what’s cheaper at the time
Mine is upside down meaning by furnace, I think my ducts go underneath the house not in the attic.
What size filter is this? Seems like a 20x20x1 does not fit quite right. Thanks!
19 7/8” x 21 1/2” x 1”
@@AIRMANHVAC Thanks for the quick reply! Very helpful!
Hola guiero comprar un filtro para aire acondicionado de casa de metal 21x 17x 1
My filter has wire on both sides.
Serial number on unit is FJ4DNX. It never came with a filter. So I had to go purchase one from Walmart.
There should be an air flow direction indication on the filter.
@@AIRMANHVAC would that be the arrow?
@@sandrawedding yes
@@AIRMANHVAC thank you! It doesn’t specify if the arrow goes up or down. But the arrow is opposite of the writing. 🤷🏼♀️
Número del teléfono ☎️ gracias 🙏
Hola. A
So you don't have to buy those expensive filters from carrier?
Correct
@@AIRMANHVAC how do you find the proper fit for your ac?
@@bxjagal I’d google the model number of your air handler and add filter size to it… for example “FB4CNP036 filter size”. Most icp style air handlers are going to use 16 3/8” x 21 1/2” x 1 or 19 7/8 x 21 1/2 x1 or 23 5/16” x 21 1/2” x 1.
@@AIRMANHVAC so i have one of those weird dimension size 19-7/8" x 21-1/2" x 3/4" is it okay to go up one size?
@@bxjagal yea it’ll be a 1” filter
