- Quick tips and information on how to change an air filter, what filters are recommended and we touch on the subject of whole house air purifiers.
Whole house air purifiers make a great addition to any air conditioning system. They say the air inside our homes is 10% dirtier than the air outside. Adding a whole house purifier is a must for allergy sufferers, or those who have any kind of immunodeficiency.
Air Conditioning evaporator coils are a perfect breeding ground for mold, mildew and bacteria. Installing an Air Scrubber eliminates the chances of that getting into your airstream.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ruclips.net/user/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
THANK YOU! First video that shows a horizontal unit!!!
*Works great **Fastly.Cool** compact and Easy to install*
My unit is in the attic and horizontal as well. This video was very helpful pointing out the direction of the airflow. I do now have the filter in the right direction. Thank you!
Thank you so much, everyone talks about filter but does not tell you how to know which way .... thank you again
Great video..Finally found a video that shows all! I have the same style unit and you clearly showed a full video of what kind of unit you have and which way the arrow is supposed to go thru perfectly.
I looked everywhere for this information and you were so CLEAR on what to do and which way the arrow goes. Awesome video!! Thank you so much!!!
You hit it man. The air scrubber thing put you on top. Thanks
Wonderful! Excellent video! Great information! Thanks so much!🙏🤗
Glad to see the UV. In the south the spore build up on the coils can make for weird smelling air.
This is great!!! New house and no manual has anything on how to change the filter. I only found vertical units and this is EXACTLY what I needed. See they put a cheap 1.75 filter in there and need to get that filth out of there fast!! Super appreciatie the MERV rating tip as well! I like that UV air filter unit....
7:39 wow thank you for that info. I'm an HVAC tech, and I always wire that thing to R and G on the Tstat for the fan so that its relay would engage it when the fan comes on. I did that thinking so it can last longer. But I had no idea that shortens the life of it. Thanks so much for that. I guess I'll plug it in next time or hard wire it to R and common for constant power. I only installed 3 of those in my career of HVAC, thankfully I know all 3 of those clients because they know me and trust me, and I will tell them all my mistake and will bring this to other tech co workers of mine, because our company is focusing more on Halo's.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences very appreciated it here 👍👍
Merve 10 upper r hand corner... just saw it, replaced exact one tonight. Making sure it’s in right direction.
Awesome job guys, keep up the great videos!
Thank you sir!
Awesome video very easy to follow please keep posting videos they help very much 👍🏻
Mine is like that but on the left side. I use the 4” one in mine. After the house build the 1” one was so clogged from the construction dust air would barely pass through it. So if you buy a new home check that thing!
Great video. No muss, no fuss, just the facts and expert opinions. Thanks a lot guys. Exactly what I need.
Thank you. Bought a house and had no clue.
Just found your channel ☺️ New sub! Thanks 👍
very helpful thanks
So helpful. I just bought my first house and these little things can be overwhelming to figure out. Really appreciate your help!
What this guy can accomplish with parkinsons disease is an inspiration
we've had to overcome a lot in business, who hasn't though
Is this a joke about holding a camera with one hand and working with the other while talking in a hot attic breathing insulation particles? I hope that’s it.
thx man
How often should this type of unit be serviced or have a tuneup?
We just bought our first house and all the videos uploaded here are quiet informative and useful. In regard to the 4” filter do we put in the remaining gap 4 filters each of 1” size ? That’s what you actually meant ??
no you can use 1" or 4" ..
Do you also have filters grates inside the house too ?
3 years later this saved me
Do some not have it ? I have lived in my home for 3+ years and never changed a filter up there ...i have 3 intakes in the home that have filters that i change regularly
I wish my filter were as easy to change as this one :(
Why was the 4 inch slot not using a filter nor was there one inserted?
I have exactly same farnace as yours, why my white pipes don't have caps on it, I placed my hand on top of white pipe feel hot air blow out from there.
Thanks for the video! The only video to show me what direction to put the filter.
So I don't use the thick 4 inch filter? When the house was built we were instructed to use the 4 inch filter.
I have a horizonal unit in my attic, I'm not sure if I have a filter up there, but I have a return register filter that I replace. Do you think I have one up in the attice as well?
Great video.....but as a new home owner in a newer house, how do I determine if my unit contains the filter or if they sit in the air intake vents
Physically check both locations.
@@topgunheatingandairllc2197 Mine has a 4'' filter on the unit in the attic and a 1'' on the return vents, should I not use filters on the return vents? Thank you!
This was helpful. My Carrier unit doesn't have an air filter cabinet though. Is that normal for some units? The only air filters I can find are the ones in my upstairs hallway and master bedroom.
How we no what side funeral filter please
Yes, some don’t have filter cabinets and they’ll have a return air filter plenum. Or the filters will be in a return air filter grille in the ceiling
Can I change my merv 12, 16x25x5in thick filter to a merv 16 for alergy purposes? Its for a Carrier 58sta/stx.
Enjoy ur video. Does all units use a filter? Also part where the cores are. Are they easy to change out without changing the whole unit?
Hey you ever find out if all them have filters?
Why is there a 1 in filter slot & 4 in filter slot. Does it need to have both??
Easy peasy
Nice and breezy
my unit doesn't have any access for filter. what does that mean? they forgot to install it?
Please let me know where I can find air flow filter at a lavergne furnace
I live in Central Texas in a new construction home. I have been in the home for six months. The coils in the ducting look clean. I have also poured the water vinegar solution into the condensation drain pipe routinely. However, I keep encountering a musty smell when my AC is running. What is causing that in your opinion?
In the DFW area, Same problem here, have a musty smell.
Is that an extra filter that you install in there, there is one on my intake by the ceiling, also the tech that install this seal the whole unit with a compound. Thanks
This is a return air filter plenum, you’ll typically one have either one filter here. OR one in the ceiling in the filter return air grille. Not both though
How can you find out what size filter you need?
I have a 2015 horizontal air handling unit like this in same location. Goodman CHPF model. I cannot for the life of me find the filter hatch. I have looked at every square inch of this thing. There is no quick access hatches anywhere. I have filters all over my ceiling however in the return vents. Are these doing the same purpose and there isn't a filter to change up in the roof unit? Thanks.
Should have mentioned it’s not a good idea to store open filters in the attic. They are getting more dirty than the one you take out.
Great point, and normally we don’t
I might give you guys a call, I'm in Midlothian
Is it customary for the central AC to have filter in the attic? The filters of my AC are only at the ceiling?
Can be either or, ceiling return air grilles can limit you to a 1” filter. Although I’ve heard they make a 4” now. Otherwise to have a larger filter that lasts longer, has more surface area and allows for more efficient airflow it would be in the attic
I have a an exhaust vent inside the house in the ceiling where I put a filter...do I still have to have a filter inside the unit just like yours?
This is one configuration, many homes have filters in a return air grille like the one you described. At least here in Texas. We prefer at least one 4” filter in the attic in this configuration with multiple returns if it’s easy to access so that you’re not changing 2-3 filters, just one.
Did you find a filter in your unit as well ? I hate wall grates inside with filter but not sure about the unit itself
I have a horizontal unit, too, but my filter is accessible from the ceiling side. there's a register/grill that I pull down and replace a filter. my question is, would there be a secondary filter in the attic side? I tried looking, but I cant seem to find another filter. Thanks.
On the same boat with you. There is always that dusty, musty smell every time the heat is on, the air filter (on the wall) was just replaced a month ago (and it was the highest MERV rating too). It's almost 1am now and I'm really hoping that there is another filter in the furnace itself even though I checked it months ago but didn't see anything like air filter housing
@@Kay-dx8vm start with getting your duct cleaned, around $200 for complete air duct clean. the "odor" might be coming from the duct AFTER the filter. good luck.
Notice how the entire filter housing is not insulated? Will this 400+ sq inches of uninstalled metal not radiate heat back into the flow stream if this is installed in a 140F texas attic? My new Trane is the same way. The rear portion of the return box is insulated, then the 5" x the perimeter of the filter housing is not. Im just a Trane customer asking. Thanks
It’s a fair point, and question. We’ve gotten away from using this type of return air filter plenum and gone to using a cabinet for media filters. Neither are insulated. Attic ventilation is a whole other issue. I don’t think that horizontal installs in attics are the best, but we deal with the hand we’re dealt by builders. Most homes are not designed around mechanicals. Most furnaces are not insulated either until you get into 16+ seer models either. I’d be interested in a study showing if it had any impact on performance and efficiency honestly.
@@topgunheatingandairllc2197the way you answered this really shows you’re a good, trustworthy individual.
How to lock sistam please
I changed the filter in the ceiling vent, is there another one in the furnace like this? It's also in the attic
mine is a Carrier GAPCCCAR2025 Merv 15 filter, isnt it an overkill? Could I use a Merv 8 or 11 to achieve similar result?
Depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. We usually recommend a MERV 11 if you have a 4-5” filter cabinet. Anything above that can be, but depend on static pressure and ductwork design. It could be overkill
Is it normal for water to sit on top of the ac conditioner were u put the ac filter
No that could have been from flushing trap on the unit.
My heating unit stopped working. I can hear something in the attic when I set heat temp on but nothing coming thru the vents. I looked in the attic but cannot find where the filter is located if there is one there. I do have ceiling filters (two) that i do replace; is this the filters or is there one somewhere in the attic unit?
Mine is the same and doing the same thing. Ever figure anything out
How often should I change my air handler filter?
Depends on your house, what thickness filter you use and type. For standard 1” media once a month. For larger thickness filters like 4-5” media you can change quarterly to twice a year, depending on how dirty they get
Where is the filter size located if there is no filter
I cant find the filter on my Carrier Model FB4CNP036. Can anyone tell me, please. Thank you.
Theres another maintenance where you pour some sort of chlorine into one of those PVC pipes it's like every 6 months. Any one know what solution I buy??
Just use a cup of bleach or vinegar if it’s pvc pipe
What is all that pink stuff around the furnace?
That is blown in insulation, they use it in a lot of homes around here in the attic space
i have same exact unit but it doenst have place for a filter. its all closed off. can i customize it to add a media filter. thank you in advance.
You absolutely can, it’s easily done if you have the physical space to add 6-7” for a 4” media filter cabinet
How do I do that on fy4anf030 puron slope coil that is taped/glued around 6" plenum (it may be the filter cabinet but i dont have latches/screws there) panel between air handler and return duct?
Wait so there is another filter besides the one on my ceiling?
Sergeant Danelarton
I’m asking my self the same question too
It depends. I’ve been looking for it but can’t find it. I’ve asked around and most don’t know. I looked on the manual and no mention. Hey system does ok for heat but for ac it’s garbage. It’s a heat pump too. In attic handler Lennox
The newer homes now have filters in the ceilings instead of a filter box attached to the furnace. Much easier to replace filters in the ceiling vs crawling into an attic to do it.
@@GhostWar305 so it's not necessary to put a filter inside the unit if you already have one inside the house ceiling?
@@danram247 Your house should not have filters at both ends. If you have intake filters in your ceilings AND on your furnace unit then you may be restricting the air flow alot which will stress out your unit. I would have an AC guy come look and check it out. It should be one or the other with the newer homes opting for the ceiling intake filters.
can you achieve a 4inch filter by stacking four 1 inch filters together? just a thought
No, doesn’t work that way. That will destroy the system and reduce airflow so much it would cause problems
Alot.of.people.dont.even know the hvac units in attic use filters . Most.people are just use to one's you.see in ceiling metal vent cover that you change every 3 months
Hello Friend i have a question, I keep changing my filter every 4 months i am confusing why my home have lot of dust, I never open windows or doors, no holes but dust come from where? I have feelings those dust come from A/C ? 🤔
Your body sheds dead skin cells daily....that is part of the "dust"
Dust is from textiles like clothing and furniture, and shedding skin. And from outside sources.
I have 2 furnace units does that mean I have 2 air filters?
Yes
If you use the 4 inch filter, I assume you eliminate the 1 inch filter. Is this correct?
That is correct, never use multiple filters
That’s a nice air scrubber
It’s great, had a lot of good feedback on these. I personally notice a difference in our own house with and without this running
Top Gun Heating And Air LLC Ive been installing the APCO its been working great so far
Electrician Services Corp absolutely, those are great too. I posted the link for those Airscrubbers I like as well. I think APCO has similar technology. Bottom line is, every house should have one. I’m definitely a believer in them. They’re not just an upsell
HOW OFTEN SHOULD THEY BE CHANGED
Did you watch the video?
Sounds like Lonnie…

Do all air handlers have filters? I have 2 filters in my ceilings, upstairs and downstairs. Is there another one in the air handler?
Hey u ever figure it out?
@@aaronbaraiya3692 yeah I don’t have one In mine
@Bald God you don't have a filter in your furnace right? Cuz I think I may not as well
@@aaronbaraiya3692 I don’t
