Hey friends! I wasn't going to make a full video on this, but given the drama this has caused on Twitter and the two screenshots we now have of the game, I figured I might as well talk about it as a part of spreading the truth regarding the "game as a service" bit you've all probably heard about.

Hey friends! Just a few clarifications since I've only seen the Anth interview with Obraxis (link in description) after finishing this vid :)
- "Subnautica 2" is the official name of the game
- Like the Krafton presentation said, we will be on a new planet, not 4546b
Just like you I did too watch the interview. I'm excited for the massive crab that was pointed out. The rock puncher of below zero was cool, but I think a crab twice the size (roughly) of the small submersible will be a great sight to see
kinda sucks it's a new planet but i guess they exhausted stories to tell on 4546b
I would like to add, that the devs did NOT exclude microtransactions from the GAAS model, only thing they excluded are battle and game passes (but honestly who expected those anyways), I am afraid we will need to wait for more info or for the actual game until we will be able to confrim there are no microtransactions or other GAAS bullshit in the game

That's assuming you even GET a Cyclops given the vehicle shown in the image is roughly a mixture of the Seamoth and the Seatruck.
Yes! and it'd be sick to have a section that NEEDS the cyclops. Even in the inactive lava zone, you could technically survive with just the PRAWN. Part of the game where you actually have to depend on a submarine to survive would be nice, if executed correctly.

@@KaraTheGirlie Someone didn't WATCH the video all the way through and only stopped at when IGN and the publisher plastered the game with the "Game as a service" pre-mature mark!
The fact that the image is in-game photo scares me, because the leviathans are probably going to look a little more realistic, but also I love it because it’s just a beautiful looking game and i can’t wait to see it in action!
Edit- By the way, I saw this in Anthomnia’s video, in the image there is a GIANT FREAKING CRAB in the far left of the image, and if that stays in then I don’t really think this games version of the safe shallows will be very safe, because we got that shark-looking thing as well as the crab.
Oh yeah I can't wait to see what the first leviathan will look like :)

my heart dropped when I heard "game as a service" so glad the devs cleared that up and I hope they truly are making a great single player and multiplayer experience without microtransations

feels just like home 🥹
idk about anyone else but I really hope they bring back the more desolate and abandoned feel/atmosphere that Subnautica had. Below Zero felt a lot less lonely, desperate and eerie, which obviously isn't a bad thing as it's completely subjective, but for me and I'm sure a lot of other people, that horror aspect was sorely missed.
I also really hope they design some genuinely terrifying creatures for the planet, that focus on a face/body that is actually horrifying to look at through a screen. Like even if you remove all context from the Reaper, and just paste its body onto a white background, its face alone is nightmare fuel, and was clearly designed to be nightmare fuel
getting to travel deeper would be nice too

I mean it's subjective. This game never felt like a horror game
@@pandosham I agree it didn't feel like a typical horror game. But there were elements that I thought played like one. Like scouring the dunes for parts as a Reaper roared somewhere nearby. Some of the locations that had you going deeper and deeper, only to find little entrances into dark and creepy underwater caves, that went on and on. Along with a fair few more scenarios.
The atmosphere of the game just felt darker and less kind. I loved that about Subnautica, the specific atmosphere it created, and I missed it in Below Zero
what I'd really love to see is a handcrafted map like the 1st game, but slightly randomized leviathan spawning, so there's still an element of the unknown in repeat playthroughs. Something like "biome X has a 15% chance of spawing leviathan Y in each of these five locations". That way certain biomes could still be inherently safe (or dangerous) but you don't entirely know for sure until you do some exploring

That sounds awesome. Also the environment should interact with itself beyond the predators randomly killing a fish or too. Like if a large predator is in the area the small herbivores hide away, or the coral changing colour if their is a predator in the area or not. Even the herbivores should have their own interactions, like how the crashfish are supposed to defend their nest against anything, or peepers teasing the predators because they simply have no fear😂

Despite the story of 4546b feeling somewhat unfinished, I think that leaving room for speculation while moving on to a new world is probably the best choice.
Either way, I'm looking forward to the new vehicles, biomes, creatures and everything unknown worlds has to offer, no matter the wait time!

Id imagine the stories will be at least somewhat linked. I doubt 4546b will be entirely forgotten for this one, but the overall story was never really about 4546b anyway tbh
If the developers want to hint at something that was below zero... I'm curious to know what happened to the erchitekt, his planet, and the protagonist
A few things I’m looking forward to for Subnautica 2 are expandable aquariums, For even more fun in base building, With the ability to attach all sorts of cosmetics to them like pipes to send fish from one aquarium to another.
And the ability to make bigger Docking modules, Like one for a Cyclops, Or a Seatruck module storage bay.
Or if we’re going into Kharaa territory, Features to prevent infection for as long as possible, like infected fish locators and quarantine areas for your sea base.
Oh yeah PLEASE give me the cyclops docking module :)
What I love about these screenshots is that even tho this is made in ue5 it really keeps the art style of subnautica, I was a bit worried they'd change it too much but that reasures me a lot

I hope they dont make the same mistake as with below zero, they removed the scariness in below zero. Every creature roared like a leviathan and the music was never threatening, everything was bright too. Really removed subnauticas core feeling.

im really happy about that too i am curious how the optional co-op will effect the gameplay. like will scanning a fragment mean the other player needs to go find a different one? or would we share blueprints
@@boney2982Maybe it would be like a crew based thing and you could contact pdas like phones and use your pdas for like locking one person vehicles so ppl couldnt steal them or like trade items through pdas maybe even have a 4 person submarine where there are engine repairs or extra modules that could add some turrets like attaching with the seatruck and maybe even a storage locker that is only for you but not a pda kinda like an ender chest in minecraft. way too many ideas

Just "finished" subnautica the first and men i'm really really hype to see a multiplayer subnautica with the same or more amout of scenario, atmosphere, immersing work they gave us for the first.

I was expecting some mecha-fauna introduction into subnautica 2, as the only engineered fauna we've got so far is the Warper.

Not in a million years would I have saw this as an in game screenshot without someone telling me it is. It actually looked like concept art at first! I can't wait to play the final product with my brother :)))
edit: the vehicle in the ss might be some kind of exploration drone, kinda like the pengling bot but aquatic

Maybe a module for the cyclops+ of this game which could be handled by a crewmate while another pilot the ship and a third maybe check on onboard cameras (but not the first game's 3 cameras you could easily deal with, a whole bunch of them to orientate the massive beast since its litteraly supposed to host 33% more crew than the cyclops, and probably lore-friendly even more than that maybe)
IGN just wanted attention and their next big story, they don't care if they say something absolutely wrong or ruin a devs/games reputation.

i’m not sure if this is possible, but i really hope they fix the perceptive size of the game, in the other subnauticas the leviathans just don’t look that big from the player’s perspective

Just make some giant shadow visible from the distance. That, combined with a menacing audio cue should do the job.
Also, the serpentine shape of the first game's leviathans didn't help. They need to be made thiccer.
@@adorp Honestly the shadows were greatly handled in the first game, when navigating in the mountains, crash site or dunes since leviathans usually swim close to the surface you could usually see huge shadows of them seconds before they spot you, sometimes even before earing them

I would grateful to get more of that and absolutely no season pass, live service or unsolicited business tactics that would reap the life out of a great new original game.
Those tactics will not make this game better. It will absolutely will harm the experience and harm the love and fanbase that has been created from nothing.
Keep the heart going and you will be far more successful than can be imagined!

Imagine a Subnautica game where alterra gives Riley an alternative, with how much debt he’s in they decide to give him a way out if he chooses to do so.
Use Architect technology to go back in time and study 4546b in its primitive form, it’ll be much more dangerous with possibly more or less resources

If the game takes place on another planet wouldnt it be possible that ryley robinson had to land on that planet because he couldnt get permission to land on the planet he wanted to as he was 3 trillion credits in debt
in the interview with anth and obraxis anth asked what person we would be playing as and obraxis said that he would spoiler us if he said it

I hope that their focus isn't on a narrative driven game. Story is not their strenght. If they just focus on the enviroments and survival aspects it'll probably turn out ok. Hopefully it'll have large open areas like the first game.

The original game and somewhat the second game wasn't story driven but more exploration, yes there was story and lore here and there but the game was not driven or lead by story.
The very first time I jumped from my life Pod the amazing visuals and world caught and held my attention more than PDA Data ever could
I'm playing Subnautica VR on a Quest 3. It is the most magical and immersive experience you can possibly have in VR and I've played most of famous VR titles both on PC and Quest. If the new game either support VR or can be modded for VR, it will be a guaranteed purchase for me but if it's not, I won't even touch it and enjoy the absolutely unforgettable experience that I have with the current 2 iterations.

In total great news. I loved playing both Subnautica titles and and especially in VR! Subnautica: Below Zero with vr mod is still one of my absolute favorite vr titles of all time! Great to hear, that the new one will get unreal engine 5 support, so a at least vr support through the great URVR injector mod is confirmed. But I am still hoping, that SN2 would get native vr support with hand controls an so on, that would be so nice!

I really hope Subnautica 3 (or subnautica 2 they call it apparently) still takes place on 4546B because there is still so much potential! Like if you look at earth, each continent or hell even country contains a vast variety of animal life, so there is still so much flora and fauna left to explore on 4546B

Phew! Thankfully the devs pulled through and clarified before it got too bad. Like many others, I’m so excited to get any more info on the new game. I might be worried performance wise with the next gen graphics on UE5, but It shouldn’t be a concern with unknown worlds (I hope)

Obraxis cant reveal too much yet, but he does confirm that the images we have are actual in-engine screenshots of the game environment, that its gonna take place after below zero, and that there’s something interesting that has to do with the planet’s sky. And that base building and creatures have their own dedicated development teams now, so we can expect a massive overhaul to both.

glad multiplayer will be in it. it’s really my only thing i felt was missing. the solo experience in the game really adds to the terrifying effect but that doesn’t change that i want my friends right next to me feeling the same thing. i liked what the forest series did where they literally just plopped the single player version to multiplayer and really only increasing the difficulty in terms of spawns etc. i think this will make the game more popular as now gobs of friend groups will be getting it.

Sounds very exciting! Hope the devs take their time on this and don't rush and hopefully we'll have an other-worldly new instalment to the Subnautica franchise!
Bit worried though about launch issues since that is extremely common nowadays. For example: poor performance, unfinished/rushed game: bad gameplay etc. But I'm positive the devs prioritize quality!
But we'll just have to wait and see.

The good thing is Subnautica always releases early access. If something is broken, it will be fiyed
In the earnings report, it is shown that the game will take place on a brand new alien planet meaning it won't be set on 4546b, that's why there are new flora, fauna and vehicles. But I believe the game play elements and overall stoty arc will be relatively the same, you crashland on an alien world, harvest resources to survive, find out why you crash landed and then figure out how to escape, I don't think there will be an alien disease this time or if there is, perhaps its more treatable than karaar.

There is a video from Anthomnia, where they talked with a developer about some details and rumours. For example, there they confirmed, that the name “Subnautica 2” will be the official name of the game. There is also much more information on many aspects you talked about, so to anyone, who wants more specific information, give it a watch !

having a second part to the story with a subtitle and the third game labled as 2 is a completly normal gamedev tech. in other news arch talked with obraxis and it tells more then when you did. also take a clooooooose look at the left side of that update pic. there is a huge hermitcrab under the rock in the background.

Mr. Bacon in an interview Obraxis has confirmed that S2 will take place on another planet, not on 4546B. It would be great if you would make an video focusing on those 2 screenshots we got. I would like to hear your thoughts on some details, mainly 2 that I noticed: 1) Sub looks like an actual detachable cockpit of Cyclops looking sub. 2) those two Mesmer looking fish seem to me like they are in a symbiotic relationship with Blue shark maybe guiding it towards pray if it had bad eyesight or even paralyzing it`s pray, because they seem to swim rather close to it and in pair.

POSSIBLE Gameplay:
Riley (and others) crashes (AGAIN) far away from an alterra (I don’t think I spelt that right) base, and they are in the planet 1043A (could change) far away from the 4546 system.

The most interesting notice is the fact the game can also be enjoyed solo. This means, in clarification, that the story is of course isn’t going to be simple copy and paste from the first. Chances are that this is going to be a new story built with multiplayer in context. With four main characters, chances are that the story and gameplay is going to feel more relaxing when around friends and a lot less grindier. All the better, in my opinion, straight to the fun goofy, imma totally not hit you with my seamoth gameplay.

@@TheLastBacon That would sound amazing. I absolutely loved getting absolutely destroyed by everything but the obvoius monsters and environment. Everything(My Friends) made Sons of the Forest great, so something similar would make Subnautica 2 just as fantastic.

I feel like since we are going to a new planet now, the devs could answer our questions about 2546B, like, we all know the game is in the crater and beyond the crater we have the void, what is in the void, we know there is the ghosts and near the sector zero we got the below zero leviathan thingy, but is only that? Maybe deeper there could have an ecosystem or new creatures, they could answer those questions or put the answers on the new game

I hope they add a lot of new furniture and base pieces. I always loved to make big bases in Subnautica, but they were pretty much empty.

New planet is, I think what will possibly make a game of equal or better quality to the original subnautica.
I think below zero had issues because it was on the same planet, they couldnt change much with the creatures or story
But with a new planet, the freedoms are endless. They can set a new timeline, new creature design, new stories, anything they want. Im also hoping this means that they will make a game even larger then og subnautica map since, im gonna be honest I liked how the original map felt almost endless even in giant submarines.

Honesty would be cool being able able to travel to different big locations like different planets map but still in the water planet. Maybe find the remains of the original crater. I want to see a old rusted aurora

i wonder if the co op will have so you must play with your steam friends or there will be this whole server browse and host thing like in most multiplayer games for example among us or don't starve together

Really hope this game revisits Ryley's story, with him going to this new planet in order to pay his debt to Alterra. Though it's perfectly fine if they want to bring in a new character/characters :)

My main hope is honestly having a real map avaliable 🙈 I really have the worst sense of direction and there’s so much grinding for materials so I actually never finished the first game, I’d always get lost trying to find more titanium or something 😭
