Erm, actually the crash zone was originally a part of the safe shallows and reaper leviathans are only over there because they are attracted to how much noise the crash made.
“The radiation probably killed the animals in the vicinity immediately” Reapers, actively travelling en mass to the irradiated zone: *I have no such weaknesses*
@@mememan1546 Perhaps since they are only found places near electricity and radiation(The aurora, the dunes with it's alien things, and the mountains with the alien base) they were created by the Pre-cursors to suck up radiation from the Degasi ship's crash. They would absorb the radiation, but in living with so much of it, went blind from radiation and developed echolocation to help with the murky junk filled waters. They eventually escaped and repopulated, creating the ones we know now, and when the Aurora crashed three went from the dunes(This is why the dunes has the least) and started feasting.
Matpat, a couple of minor things about the aurora. The crash size was probably affected by a few things not stated in the episode. The captain's log makes it clear that he was still steering the ship when it went down with the intent on trying to minimize damage to the ship. He knew it needed to remain intact for a rescue to be possible. This, combined with the fact that the game takes place on the top of an inactive volcano instead of the ocean bottom, could account for why the damage was as small as it was. The aurora might have hit water first and then hit ground after slowing down.
Also, the crash was caused by the Cannon enforcing the quarantine and the filtered water is made of only a bladderfish, so it's safe to say that the containers are organic and biodegradable

The water bottles in subnautica are actually not plastic. You only need a bladderfish to make a water bottle, meaning that the bottles are fully biodegradable.
@@Dino_5500 Given how Corporate works, and the fact that fabricators 3D print *molecules*, the bottles most likely aren't plastics. It would be easier and quicker to make them out of pure cellulose.

@@scp-wasp3463 bro the wiki would've given him far more than enough, this man looked at the game for 5 seconds and thought he could make an accurate theory on it. (Love ya Mat but this theory was ridiculous, a bunch of key lore points were tossed aside just for an advertisement.)
Hello Matpat, excuse my possibly clunky use of the english language. I was really excited about a Subnautica theory because of the incredible lore this beautiful game has to offer. This however turned out to be more of a TeamSeas ad then a theory. Believe me when I say, I'm a big fan of your theories in general, but this time just a pinch of actual research lets it fall apart. Please see the following evidence: The Impact of the craft being catastrophic: Logs you can find in the game (e.g. Lifepod 19 Second Officer Keen's Voicelog) confirm that the captain of the Aurora took over manual control and tried to execute a controlled descent of the ship after the midair/orbital incident. As the Aurora was trying to use the planet for a swing-by-maneuver it's trajectory in relation to the surface would have already been flat and due to its speed the craft would be able to hold this flat approach for a while. This would lead to the Aurora hitting the planet's surface at a much more controlled angle and potentially lower speed in the end compared to a "falling out of the sky" scenario, and therefore much less damage to the geology around the crash site. The waste of the Aurora being a danger to the ecosystem: While there certainly will be an impact of some items on that ship, it should be argued that a civilization this advanced will not rely on plastic as the material of their products. The fabricator (one of the game's crafting stations), where you craft the basic versions of the drinkable water items in the game, materializes them, bottle and all, from midair using some magical 3D printing laser synthesizing. Even if the bottle was made from polymer (I personally think they are made from metal, looking at the model, or rather from some sort of completely organic material as you can craft a water bottle using a fish as input material only), trash would not be an issue. A good indicator for this is the buildable trash can in the game. Its description says that it "Permanently deconstruct[s] unwanted items and safely release[s] their constituent atoms into the atmosphere." The same can be said for the similar functioning "Nuclear Waste Disposal" which also permanently deletes Nuclear Waste from existence. This technology exists and Below Zero shows there to be an ongoing human presence on the planet, so accumulating waste shouldn't be a thing. The radiation (could also insert dissolved chemicals) being a danger to the wildlife of 4546B: As it has been said, the radiation as a result of the leaking drive core would dissipate after a while, should the breaches be sealed. So there is a finite amount of radioactive material/radiation actually finding its way into the environment, that means it will start to be diluted by the ocean. The map we are playing on in Subnautica is called The Crater and is about 2x2km in size according to the data bank entry (Fun Fact: The actual size of the map is almost double that) with the rest of the planet (excluding Sector Zero) being an ecological deadzone with only microscopic and leviathan life. That would mean that the ocean currents would transport the majority of the radioactive material out of this small inhabited crater's area in no time. Your example of the radioactive material from the Fukushima disaster making it all the way to Canada in a really short timespan proves my point. The radiation spreads out, therefore gets weaker and as there is no source for more unnatural radiation to come from anymore, the affected volume of the medium (the water) will be moved and spare the crater. I sure hope we'll get a Subnautica episode about the extensive lore in the future. But hey, that's just a theory. A comment-section theory :)
thank god someone who played the game, matpat although is really a great theorist, he never addresses these points or seems to make himself at the least like he played it.
The creatures in Subnautica are already used to (small amounts of) radiation. Here’s my proof: in most deeper biomes you can find radioactive crystals exposed underwater. The PDA talks about the radiation, and when you pick them up you can hear a Geiger counter make a radioactive sound. Reapers and Sandsharks thrive close enough to the Aurora even right after the explosion where the effects would be highly fatal for us without the proper equipment. Even jellyrays which have barely any protection behave normally in high doses of radiation. We might have killed a lot of the wildlife, but certainly not most of it.
Not saying the crash was harmless but the alternative was essentially mass extinction, i believe a very painful 100% lethality rate. So i would say our presence had a net positive.

Overall you've made some very compelling arguments, but I feel I have to point out two potential oversights. Most glaring is that in the audio and text logs you can find scattered around the game, it is revealed that the captain of the ship stayed on board until the very end to make a controlled decent. While not a proper landing, I feel it lends some credence as to why the crash zone is as small as it is. Perhaps it wasn't a proper or gentle landing, but neither was it a full force crash from orbital height. Coupled with a few other theories I've seen, the site of the crash may not have actually been shallow water. There may have been some small degree of dry land, which would explain why the terrain goes so far up to meet the ship nearly all the way around, even poking above the water for a sizable area around the shull of the Aurora. Secondly, with the exception of the truly absurd number of water bottles required to survive, you don't encounter much actual plastic. There may even be reason to suggest the water bottles might not even be plastic as we understand it today. In some cases, they almost resemble more of a metallic container. Though I feel a lot was overlooked in the creation of the game on that point, as no materials are actually required to create the container the water goes into. The bottle just seems to materialize out of nothing during the crafting process. Coupled with that, is the food seen on the ship and various cargo containers scattered throughout the environment. Most are not shown to have any individual containment or packaging of any kind (which is only stranger considering most are found stuffed into cargo boxes). Given the technological level portrayed, it's unlikely that food was brought pre-prepared from another world. And although the ingredients aren't shown or explained, the "Nutrient Block" in my opinion most closely resembles something akin to pemmican. A dry, often bready and nutrient right brick with a frankly mind-boggling shelf life that is often made mainly by survivalists today, and historically in many parts of the world. The logical conclusion is that given how technology has taken over, no one actually makes or stores these food bricks, but instead has them crafted at various and potentially specialized fabricators on the main ship (before the crash). As they can not be made by the player, either they were destroyed in the crash, or remain locked away into areas of the ship that could not be reached due to structural damage (or most likely, something simply overlooked in game development).
Hi! As someone who’s played this game dozens of times, I have a *few* things to say about this theory: While the area surrounding the crash site doesn’t seem as damaged as it should be, the surface is only a small part of this game. A lot of this game, if not most, takes place *below* the ocean floor in underwater caves. As for the batteries, most of the batteries found in this game are still sealed in Alterra containers when found. Even if the batteries were exposed, and their copper contents spilling into the ocean, copper is already a naturally occurring recourse on this planet’s ocean floor surface. Also, this theory says that tens of thousands of wreckage are unaccounted for because there would be a lot more debris than just the metal scraps, but look not further than the *entire thruster* that detached from the Aurora during its crash, or in space orbiting the planet seen as the Neptune 01 rocket leaves the planet. And even if the negative effects of the Aurora’s crash exceeded the map we are given to explore during the game, the game takes place on a thermal crater risen above the ocean floor. The ocean surrounding the crash site is just an empty abyss as seen by the sheer drop off at the edge of the map. One final note is that the *entire* planet was doomed to the Kharaa bacterium long before the Aurora’s crash, and while the Aurora killed a significant amount of flora and fauna living on the thermal crater, the player onboard cured the planet of the deadly Kharaa and, as we see in Below Zero, it seems to have worked given the only Kharaa we see in the sequel is on a frozen leviathan. Sorry, not to be “that guy,” but I feel very passionately about this game and its story :) I understand that the cause for this theory is greater than just a video game and it’s pretty cool you guys are raising money to clean our non-fictional oceans!
"You killed the planet" Me, systematically hunting down leviathans and punching them to death with a big stompy robot: No, I conquered it. There's only room on this world for one apex predator.
I like how Matpat sometimes makes really in-depth theories about games while proving that he either didn't play the game or didn't pay any attention to the lore these kinds of things don't happen often but when they do it's the most entertaining thing on earth
He says "we" killed the planet whenever "we" were shot down by the Precursors. If anything, it's their fault for shooting us down and spreading this raditation. We had no clue about what would be on the planet, and we thought that the gravity sling manuver would work. Whoopsie do, it didn't and the Precursors shot us down. It's ironic that he brings up Enzyme 42 but doesn't pay attention to the huge factor of the Q.E.P.
Matpat: you caused the death of this planet. The character who found the cure and stopped more leakage of radiation from the Aurora: am i a joke to you?
Even if you don't fix the Aurora (i started playing and am a chicken when it comes to the Aurora) the reapers that live there don't seem to be affected AT ALL
Important point (spoiler if anyone cares): blame the “Architects”. The Aurora was shot down, by an automated weapon. Another important point is time. Time is compressed for gameplay reasons. After all when the Sunbeam attempts to Mount their rescue - they announce they’re more than a week away. It doesn’t take a week before they show. & of course Sunbeam is also shot down, as was the Degassi years earlier. Humans didn’t doom that planet. Oh and one more important thing you seem to have missed; the Aurora’s captain stayed aboard to attempt a controlled crash landing. This is why the damage doesn’t match what you claimed would wipe out the whole zone. She didn’t simply auger in at terminal velocity.
Inb4 “They quarantined the planet with the ship battery” Can’t they have just adjusted the targeting range at the atmosphere instead of ships traveling near their planet?

When he started talking about radiation the first thing that I thought was “well, the reapers seem to be doing pretty good, even though they’re RIGHT NEXT TO THE SHIP”
And bonesharks/sand sharks and misc safe shallows/kelp forest fish living right next to the crash zone in the radioactive area (which is larger than the crash zone biome)
there is a theory that the aurora crashed right into reaper territory and they just learned to fend off radiation or are immune to it because of biological evolution

It still exploded, which is why you’re able to enter the Aurora in the first place. It would’ve gotten worse had the player not stopped it, shown by the radiation field increasing over time, but the initial explosion did a good amount of damage, as well as the amount of time it took for the player to fix the drive core

While I appreciate Matt's dedication to getting the facts, his information with regards to nuclear power and reactors is a bit off. I've been working in the nuclear power field for nearly a decade and its miscommunicated information like this that scares people. With out context of scale talking about radiation means very little. Explaining the values compared to chest x-rays, standard airplane flights or even bananas (yes they are radioactive) helps put things into context. Additionally the safety features in reactors are typically very well engineered and in the community we study what went wrong at both Fukushima and Chernobyl to ensure disasters like that never happen again. Matt in the future it would be nice to see you do a collaboration with somebody from the nuclear power field to explain the differences from game to reality. A lot of peoples only knowledge of nuclear power comes from movies or games, which often depict it as bad. No technology is inherently good or bad, its about who we use it.
For example, sailors on board nuclear missile subs (meaning they are powered by a nuclear reactor, as are all active duty submarines in the US Navy) actually received less overall radiation exposure per year then your average person does due to spedning about half the year under water and thus not exposed to sunlight. Meaning living in a small metal tube with a nuclear reactor going 24/7 results in less radiation exposure then just taking a stroll outside on a sunny day.
I was thinking that too. I had to write a report on multiple different occasions about which type of energy system I think would be best for the future of the planet, and it’s always been nuclear power. Of course, my ideal is nuclear fission, but that’s currently improbable. But out of all of them, nuclear has always been the most productive, currently powering like 70% France maybe I think fact check that, the most safe if handled appropriately and legally(Chernobyl was a massive fuckup of so many rules and regulations by Russia and what not to do), and has the most likely future in powering the earth. I’m sorry green people, but wind, solar, geothermal, etc just won’t power the earths current energy need, even together. And I’m sorry fossil people, but the earth can’t keep using it not only because it’s damaging to animals and people, but because it’s not renewable and we’re running out. Plus, green energy also damages the environment, we just don’t talk about it. Nuclear does by far, from my research, which is probably minuscule compared others, the least damage to the environment when handled properly.
Because it is futuristic technology it was most likely a fusion reactor. Or even better, if humans figured out a way to produce large amounts of antimatter efficiently, antimatter is the most efficient fuel possible (100% of the energy is released in antimatter-matter collisions) and if the storage system for the antimatter was even slightly damaged and even an extremely small amount of antimatter collided with regular matter it would cause a massive explosion of radiation. Also that would explain why the computer calls it a "quantum explosion".
I've been telling this for years to everyone I know that's scared of nuclear power (imo the best powersource we have atm): The likelihood of a nuclear reactor going full meltdown like chernobyl or Fukushima is virtually 0, Especially since then they have absolutely outdone themselves in terms of safety measures and security features. And addressing the topic of nuclear waste, I'm pretty sure that scientists around the globe are working on 2 new types of reactors: one where you can re-use spent fission material until it becomes something like the sun has with iron OR a thorium reactor, which would just produce a side product that we can use for construction etc. I'm no expert on nuclear power or reactors, I'm just a student doing his A-levels. If I said anything incorrect, please do educate me.
You forgot to mention the only reason why there was so much trash was because the quarantine blaster shot both the aurora and the degassi ship, forcing them to crash land and not just land. The architects caused the infection to go world wide because they stole a sea dragon egg, and underestimated its motherly powers. Causing all the rest to go extinct. So it’s their fault not ours :)
Exactly. Can't blame humanity for this one. Blame the Architects that used the planet as a petri dish (the disease isn't even native to the planet), and set up an orbital cannon that doesn't even warn approaching ships that the planet is quarantined (and given hints in game, and especially the sequel the Architects were absolutely capable of communicating) before blasting them out of the sky.
Not only did we get shot down but were we even trying to land on the planet to begin with? It's been awhile since I last played but I was under the impression we were passing by and the laser shot us because we got too close to the planet.

I'm seeing a pattern here.
@@sonichegehodge5778 If I undestand the lore right, the Aurora was going to gravity swing around the planet while secretly dropping the search team onto the planet from orbit. I don't think the Aurora intended to actually land. Remember the Sunbeam crew saying they've never parked a rig that big on a rock that small? Well, the Sunbeam is a lot smaller than the Aurora. I don't think the Aurora is even capable of landing on planets.
Yes, the Captain stayed on board to make sure the Aurora's crash was minimised as much as possible. He transfers responsibility to Officer Keen, effectively making him de facto captain in his place
I feel the need to point out some flaws in the expelled supply estimate. First of all, all of the supplies of the Aurora weren't expelled by the crash and explosion, as you can still find a lot in the areas of the ship that you can reach, with an unknown quantity within the inaccessible areas. Secondly, the Aurora wasn't the first ship to crash. The Degasi crashed almost a decade before that, and there aren't catastrophes stemming from that. Then there's also the fact that flora and fauna can be absurdly adaptable and resilient. You've got a pair of leviathans patrolling in close proximity to a lethal radioactive source seemingly unharmed, not to mention lizards that bathe in LAVA. Heck, you don't even need to look far to see strange adaptations. Tardigrades, for example, can survive radiation, extreme pressures both high and low, extreme temperatures, and even being exposed to outer space. And as others have pointed out, the Aurora's captain stayed until the end, attempting an emergency landing, as well as the fact we don't know what the crash zone previously looked like, but is suggested to have prehaps been landmass (or at least very shallow). It's also not completely Aurora's fault, the Architects didn't really plan things through when they just stuck a giant gun on the planet that shoots anything that comes close, because of "quarantine", as opposed to setting up a forcefield or something.
its not that the architects didnt plan correctly, the gun was supposed to strand you on the planet as to prevent spreading of the bacteria to other planets. they thought dooming that planet was better then letting many planets get infected. but yeah a forcefield would be much better, but would also inspire hypotethical "space pirates" to break through it

man its been 3 years and im still amazed at the lack of any in-game research in this theory. Like a casual playthrough disproves the entire thing. Idk where but im pretty sure matpat mentioned this one was one of the ones a freelancer wrote.
I would like to point out that the water bottles in Subnautica are Biodegradable, because it states that the bottles are made out of organic matter (aka the bladderfish skin). how else do you think the bottle itself is made when you only give it a fish?
The captain goes down with his ship in order to make sure that it lands in one piece, and before the explosion the aurora is clearly in one piece. But Mat doesn't even acknowledge this, he acts as if the ship had been thrown at the planet instead of landing on it. Everything is downhill from there.
You assume that the futuristic ship wouldn't have more food then just packaged powder meals? They literally can make a building in seconds and can probably cook just as easily.
Considering how deep other theories dig, I'm kinda surprised how shallow this one was. From replicators removing the need for most packaging to the fact that the water bottles are made of organic materials to the relatively tiny amount of material the Aurora brought to the planet to the 'semi-controlled' landing the captain achieved to minimize impact damage. The crash would certainly have an impact on the ecology for sure but you could probably dump 100 Aurora's onto the planet and have less impact on 4546B than we've had on Earth and we're still around (though for how much longer is debatable). I get you were making a tie-in episode but it was disappointing that it was done with such a surface-level theory on a great game.
Right, if he wanted to shove in an ecology theory, he could have played that crappy Endless Ocean game and talked about almost the same stuff. That would make sense since that game actually takes place in the human world
He uses this game for nothing but a dpringboard to talk about what he wanted to talk about. Earths ocean polution problem. Which is something that needs to be talked about! But there are much better games and themes to use as a springboard then subnautica.
Y’all say there are better games for him to do this theory with but let’s be real. You probably would not have watched this without subnautica’s name slapped on the title of the vid.
Matt... As someone who actually played the game, I can say that so much of this was wrong. - Aurora was shot down by the Architect quarantine laser platform and the captain still had some control of the ship, slowing it down enough to not hit as hard - all crafted things in the game were made specifically out of the surrounding flora/fauna, leaving it to be fully biodegradable - batteries and the reactor core were all well contained enough to not leak as much as you said - nutrient blocks had no packaging whatsoever, and Alterra is kinda bad when it comes to treating its employees so not as many nutrient blocks were made - the Kharaa virus was cured by the player, making the second game possible - the alien creatures living there already may have been immune to the radiation poisoning, like the Reaper Leviathans swimming around and the Biters + Crabs waltzing and swimming within

So I would say it is a noble cause, but of course more story stuff in the second game it is revealed why the research was messed up
So, I enjoy subnautica and I'll correct a couple of points. The map is actually in the middle of an inactive volcano that forms a bowl. The reason there's such a massive dead zone around the map has more to do with the death of certain leviathans well before the player's and not because of the crash or radiation. Also, they hint that where the Aurora crashes was actually originally above water and gets leveled as a result of the crash, so the damage to ocean life is lessened. Also, as far as radiation is concerned, water is a good shield. That's not to say there will be no impact, but probably not that much and once it's gone, it's gone, unlike oil. And as far as the plastics are concerned, that's not great, but it's the least of that ocean's problems.
All good, minus the part about radiation going away easier than oil. Look up how absurdly long it takes for typical radiation leaks to fade away, how far their effects can pass from one generation to the next, and the severity of those genetic defects. The planet would likely survive, but the damage would be far, FAR greater than how its depicted in-game.
Just a quick edit: Matt, I'm sure no one means to bash your message (hopefully at least), but there were a few key details missing in your theory. that being said, I think another game that could also serve to help the message is Raft Survival as it's a little closer to home. Keep up the good work, your episodes are always really gripping to watch! Lore-wise it would actually be incorrect to say that it's the human's fault for causing the pollution in the first place. *SPOILER WARNING, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED OF THE SPOILER* The crash was caused by the architect's global defense system. So while yes the human's brought the trash and other pollutants to 4546b, it was by no means their fault, per say. That being said, you forgot to mention the other ship that gets shot down, if you don't disable the global defense system in time, and all the pollutants that get brought along with it.
(a couple of things) In the game, in order to actually leave the planet, you need to repair the drive core, which means no more radiation. Even if the bottles are plastic, they're stuck at the bottom of the ocean by the containers, as none are floating around, and only a human can open the containers. There is no life around the Aroura's crash site to feed on the plastic, as rabbit tails are veggie-eaters, and the reaper is so large that it would likely ignore the tiny bottles. A reaper is by the tail end of the crash site, meaning that it is highly likely that the Aurora is completely fine to be around, even with all the negative effects. There are many underground areas that would not feel the affects of sediment displacement, radiation, or pollution. If the destruction from the Aurora is so bad, then why isn't all life extinct from the Degasi, seeing as it had ample time to kill anything around it, but didn't and is flourishing with sealife. If the destruction from the Aurora is so bad, then why is there life hanging around the remains of Sunbeam, seeing as it got the BFG treatment? Even if all life on the crater is killed, life on 4546b will go on, by simple notion that the entire game takes place on what's basically a flooded continent surrounded by 'the void', allowing for life at the equator, void life, and whatever other areas there could be like the crater to continue on outside this chernobyl-like area of inhospitability. (I'll see if I can add more in edits, but this is what I got rn, so enjoy)
@@TheEmeraldPixel The sad truth of the game is, you don't actually need to fix the drive core. The only thing that is mandatory from the Aurora is the Neptune Rocket. Fixing the drive core merely makes the game more convenient, and is actually not needed to win the game. Speaking of which, perhaps the reason that the radiation doesn't go that far is because the materials they use for power is MUCH shorter than the thing that MatPat mentioned?
@@TheEmeraldPixel You know, I totally forgot about the Degasi crash. And speaking of other crashes, you could even bring up the other crashed ships from Below Zero. If I remember correctly, they've been there even longer than the Degasi ship has and landed in similar locations as the Aurora and life is still flourishing around it. This one isn't even a spoiler either because the devs posted about it when they added it.
I think matpat forgot the part where a giant gun on the planet shot the ship down and caused us to crash in the first place so it's not entirely our fault
Yeah. The ship crashing was not our fault. It was the ancients who have doomed the planet because they made the gun. Maybe it was a good thing they died. Besides they all think we are interior anyway
Yeaaaaa, it's not our fault at all. Alterra, as we learn, is a shitty company that exploits any and everything for it's resources, but that's not relevant to the occasion. The Aurora just happens to be shot down while passing by a planet on a route not involving it and get shot done by a gun made by an alien race that has done only harm for the planet.
Love you Matt, but I have some holes in your theory/ comments: 1. All of the plastics we find, and things like food and batteries, are store in titanium storage crates. So unless opened by the player on purpose, they shouldn't get out and contaminate the water 2. As the Aurora crashes, when you listen to the Black Box recording, you can hear him say that he's trying a "controlled decent." The obviously doesn't work completely, but it may account for the lack of damage we see to other areas of the map. 3. The entire playable area of Subnautica is called The Crater, since it was a volcano, and now is a caldera, ie how we have a Lava Lakes zone in the world. I think this would stop a lot of damage from spreading outside of the playable area, and especially stop much damage from occurring to the rest of the planet I think the species most at risk is the Ghost Leviathan, the ones that live in the Void specifically. Since they generally eat microorganisms.
In the logs you find later in the game, you find that this is the only living area on the planet due to the peepers spreading the cure enzyme through alien water vents
plus, you quickly manage to stop the radiation spill of the ship and the packaging of the food is probably not made out of plastic giving that there are LITERAL MOLLECULE FABRICATORS, so cellulose would just be much more cheap
The one point I would like to tack on to your theory MatPat is our ability as the player to deconstruct and reconstruct matter at the atomic level using the fabricators we use throughout the game. With these devices we are able to deconstruct a bladder fish and transform its body into a water bottle containing filtered water. If we have the technology to convert organic matter into inorganic matter by simply pressing a button, then wouldn’t it make more sense that the Aurora would just store enough high density material, like osmium, onboard from which they could source material from for their fabricators? If that’s the case then the supply caches of batteries, food and water we find in game could just be a small stockpile of emergency supplies fabricated and jettisoned just before impact. As for where the high density material would be, it could be theorized that the impact displacement could have been powerful enough that it was picked up and carried into the void which isn’t too far to the right of the crash zone.
According to Data Bank Entry, Fabricators are essentially just atomic-level 3D printers, they can't change elements themselves. Maximum they can do is change molecules, so I guess there's a supply of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, etc.
One of the biggest misconceptions about ship wreckege is the paint. Red paint on the ships are especially there for poisoning animas such as barnacles. Because they are damaging the ship and they are traveling with it to literally everywhere and spreading . But spaceships doesnt need to consider something like that and doesnt has that kind of paint on them. So it would be much less impact on the ecology of the crashzone.
@@gameypiettvgamergames7463 The Aurora and Degasi crews never intended to land on the planet. Both were attempting slingshot maneuvers to change course to somewhere else. The only reason why the Aurora and Degasi are on the planet is because of the *_GIANT ALIEN GUN_* that maintains the quarantine.
@@Dingghis_Khaan I mean, the Aurora did have the secondary purpose of landing on the planet to investigate the disappearance of the Degasi but even then I agree with you that I'm pretty sure that the Aurora never planned to land on the planet instead sending a few cyclopes, (hate that plural form) seamoths, and prawn suits to investigate the crater. We see that in one of the PDAs in a wreck and of course the presence of aquatic vehicles in the first place.

Also want to mention to the commenter above, the Aurora didn't have a Cyclops bay to our knowledge, and the Cyclops isn't operable in space like the seamoth and P.R.A.W.N suits are.
The problem with this theory is you assume this civilization has made no advancements in manufacturing technology, also the whole map in subnautica is on top of a island in the middle of a massive super deep ocean. The most that would be hurt beyond the island is a few ghost leviathans.
The entire planet isn't ONE crater (That's where you play, inside a crater, not an island) and then just an infinitely deep ocean full of NOTHING but ghost leviathans. That's what's IMMEDIATELY around the crater. Beyond that is other ecosystems and lots of life. And they have made advancements in manufacturing, obviously. They can now make plastic bottles in the field as well. So..... yeah, don't pretend Alterra CARES about the environment.
@@Groovemonkey-pd4ht Heck, he doesn't even account for the nature of the radiation leak. All the evidence points to a leak of ACTUAL RADIATION, not radioactive materials. That's worlds different and he should know better. He even glossed over the key evidence as if it were nothing (You seal up the reactor and the radiation disappears).
My all-time favorite game gets a theory, and it's a ill-prepared one on the initial events of the game. (Mild spoilers for both games) It's not how Margarite survived the kraa, or if the frozen leviathan can escape, or whether the sea dragons will go extinct because the aurora crash ruined their path to the surface. You could talk about ALAN, and collective consciousness, or how the emperor can produce enzymes, or whether a sea dragon could really break a progenitor (architect) structure. You could talk about whether there is a Gargantuan Leviathan in the void, or how the creatures got their "arctic" variations, how the stalker line evolved differently in the different environments, how the Emperor can use telepathy to talk to you, etc. There is so much theory-worthy material on 4546B, you don't need to answer questions that nobody asked. No hate, I love your channel, but please, *please*, do a video on Subnautica that's more of a theory and less of you trying to fit your Collab. I support TeamSeas, but do a theory on Raft and global warming, or something else that is more comparable.
I think he wouldnt have done a video about subnautica in the first place if it was not for that collab. Also raft would be a lot more suitable for this topic. He just found the first game that had water and garbage in it, masked it like its actually a full fledged theory video, only for it to be an advert of some sort. EDIT: Just realized that metal wreckages might not actually be "garbage in the oceans" so he just found the first game with just water.
I love game theory so much support, but damn I agree it kinda hurt for such an amazing game to be given a theory that makes not much sense. I'm glad awareness is given but such an amazing game should be given More love and accurate theories than that. I'd buy matpat the game if he'd like so he can understand how this planet is not gonna die out from one ship (infact there's multiple) where gargantuan leviathans used to roam.
Marguerite surviving the kharaa is actually lore worthy as the disease killed the architects, almost all wildlife on the planet and maybe the frozen leviathan and I'm not just gonna go out here and say that the emperor making enzyme or ALAN being a being that is 1,000,000s of times advanced than us isn't worthy of being lore. The point that I'm getting at is that the leviathans, the Architects, sea dragon are all worthy of being lore because of their terms of power and size. The fact that the sea dragon could break something that is fully attached to the ground is very impressive and a creature that produce enzymes that can cure the most deadly disease in the universe is phenomenal as hyper advanced aliens couldn't solve it themself.
@@thelegendofmidna88 Gargantuan leviathans were most likely killed of the super low temperature in the void or the acid eating away at them in the Lost River
Another thing that was missed, he gives a food calculation based on the fact that it has been dehydrated , yet I distinctly recall their being a cafe of sorts with items like soda and vending machines onboard.
Mat, as far as I recall, the area we explore in the game is one of two habitable areas left on Planet 4546B. Even assuming the area of the first game is exactly the same size as it is in game (I imagine game limitations made it not as large as it could be) then we're more ringing a death knell for what's left of the planet. Take one trip a little too far out and you do get a terrifying - but also depressing - message "entering ecological deadzone" In all likelihood, the planet may have been doomed regardless, as sad as it is. That being said, I'd love to see a theory about if the various leviathans could exist! Particularly interested in if the Ghost Leviathan is something that makes sense given the diet it has
It isn’t the only habitable zone, it’s one of the only habitable zones (for humans). There is many creatures in the abyss too, the major part of 4546s population

@@TaosoftheVoid that’s mostly true for the void, but in terms of the amount of it, there is tonnes, and as for below zero, it’s basically like another crater, but then in terms of the land, there is a sizeable amount, all with life on (presumably). What happened was that the pilot of the Aurora guided the aurora down to safely land it after the turret shot it down. It can be assumed that with how little damage there is, he landed it safely and successfully at the cost of his own life. There's actually an audio file that proves this, the captain talking to the co-captain about attempting to safely land the aurora whilst mid attempt.
He doesn't care too much about the game, I'm pretty sure he just got told my the editors what to say, he's not smart enough to run this many channels I'm afraid
Now I don’t know a lot about the science behind this but I have played Subnautica. Now first off the bottles are metal not plastic. And our character didn’t solve the Kharaa virus the aliens actually did they couldn’t communicate with the sea emperor the one able to give the recipe for the hatching enzymes in order to hatch the sea emperors eggs. The emperor also mentions that the architects hurt it in some way and after not being able to communicate actually stopped trying because it held a grudge on them and refused to help them. The architects set up the peeper system to heal the wildlife to keep the planet alive. The Aurora wasn’t the first ship to crash land on the planet. And they didn’t crash on purpose because the architect laser made them due to the quarantine on the planet. And the area that you play in is actually a volcano and is a crater. It is clear that is isolated from the other parts of the planet and their ecosystems. And even though companies don’t have a good track record with caring for the environment the company that made the Aurora is designed for space travel and exploration you don’t hear any lore about other planets they have visited but I am sure with all that they have made they have learned how to affect the planet in the most little way possible even if their ships land and leak radiation everywhere. This is a Sci-fi game don’t critique it on the tech we have today. If you want to hear a good critic on this game and the flaws that it has I would recommend to watch Joseph Anderson’s critique on it. Because he at least went a little deeper into the lore of the game before giving it a critique like this.
little right little wrong, the Emperor actually specifies she couldn't communicate with the Architects (likely due to their bodies not being organic like ours and thus their consciousnesses not being within her reach telepathically) and they were unable to force the incubation, They never hurt the Emperor but also didn't actively help the situation either. The peeper system also was NOT done by the Architects, the system the peepers use is for water cycling like for air and the like the peepers which are within game lore rather smart actually, just realized they could also use the system and the emperor used them to spread what little help it could.
@@biosaber585 Your right in the sea emperor didn’t get hurt and I knew that she couldn’t communicate with them maybe I forgot to mention that. But I know do remember where I got that they hurt the sea emperor they took one of the eggs and forcibly hatched it. I am pretty sure you can find the body in the last base. I have always seen this as why she doesn’t give the recipe for the hatching enzymes. Because she states after opening the teleported that she gives you the secret that the others couldn’t force from her. This to me makes it sound that she couldn’t communicate with them but could at least somehow give them the enzymes idk just my theory on the situation. And I had no clue about the vent thing so thank you.
@@nightinvestigations5273 no problem. You're correct they did forcibly hatch an egg however I never took her to be malicious over this act, maybe its just how we all interpret things.
@@biosaber585 I definitely think it’s up to interpretation because the game is kinda unclear with it. And both outcomes are totally viable in the story.
This entire video was such a huge stretch. It assumes that everything hundreds of years in the future is exactly the same as now. Which I consider to be incredibly short-sighted in a video parading around as science-based. Yea, I know that pointing out that subnautica is sci-fi is like protecting something with plot armor, but comparing a space craft from the end of the 22nd century to how NASA is currently getting to Mars is so bizarre and ridiculous.
and also, WE never intended to crash nor land on the ALIEN planet, how the hell would he know that a completely alien species would suffer ill effects of radiation? hell, the ship crashed right in an ecosystem with predators loitering literally around the crash site and are still kicking... or should I say, biting YOU. And what's more, there practically 0 plastic on the ship, only synthetic plastic and the rest is literally titanium junk and blueprints, and what's more it was an alien orbital defense system that shot down the ship
Aside from the fact that subnatica is set in the far future, making any conclusions drawn from our current technologies shaky at best, there are a few facts established in the game that throw Matt's conclusions into doubt. First, the existence of the fabricators means that food can be prepared to order without individual packaging, and that such packaging can be reused repeatedly and easily. This, combined with the fact that most small items on board the ship would be incinerated instead of released, makes his estimate of the amount of trash released by the crash laughable. Second, the sheer number of crashes that have happened on this planet without destroying it's ecosystems any more than the Karaa has puts his conclusion that the Aurora's crash is devastating into doubt.
The Ghost leviathans hatch and grow within the cave systems, then move out to the dead zone once they grow too big, so that cycle would be disrupted as well.
Matpat, you're forgetting a couple things: 1) the first subnautica game is taking place in a dormant volcano. Now, while radiation may not stop simply from where it starts, I'm sure the crater wall will slow it down. 2) The Architects built a weapon to completely destroy passing ships as the planet was in a quarantine zone. The Aurora happened to be a fluke in the system.
The Aurora wasn’t a fluke, iirc the Aurora was using 4546b as a “slingshot”, and by doing so entered the quarantine zone, which activated the gun’s proximity alarm and set it to fire.

@@infernoxus1432 I have been meaning to play bellow zero ever since, Subnautica was such an impactful game for me. So I naturally tend to avoid spoilers, and was convinced the ancient aliens were called precursors and not architects
2 things. 1 in the game your PDA says too you that all the radiation is coming from the Aurora’s Power Core, which if you fix the Power Core the PDA then says that you have single handedly avoided a disaster. Or it says something like Crysis avoided I don’t remember the exact line. So the Radiation is no problem. 2. The entire Map of Subnautica is a giant Crater, and the Aurora crashed right on the edge of said Crater. If you look up a picture of the Subnautica map you’ll see what I’m talking about for yourself. What I’m saying here is would you Rather the Aurora fall 8,500 meters down, Thats as far as the Craters edge goes as far as the game tells us. Then the Radiation explodes outwords in every single direction. Because what happened when the Drive Core exploded was all the radiation leaked into the crater ya know where the game takes place. We also know as of Subnautica below Zero, that 4546B is now fully under control of the Federation. So we can assume that they have removed the Aurora or at least torn the vessel into smaller parts so they can be tossed into orbit We also know 1 other thing we know that the Aurora wasn’t traveling that fast when it hit the ocean ground, the Trailer for Subnautica starts with the captain of the vessel saying and I quote. “I’m attempting a controlled descend” AKA Slowing way down and pulling hard upwards to rip the speed WAYYYYY down. Also in Subnautic yes we still use Batteries and yes we use Copper however this changes later in the game where we discover Ion Crystal’s. Which according to the games PDA Has enough energy too match that of over 5 Million nukes combined, but its being released into a clean and reliable energy source that doesn’t harm anything. Something else… majority of the fish in Subnautica are immune or have high resistance to Radiation.
Also let's not forget that there's TONS of natural minerals exposed and copper is everywhere, I fully theorise that native fishes are completely adapted to live in environnement enriched in such elements. The wrecks are also made of element common to the planet, so they would do almost nothing.
You can see the fish immediately start scavenging the wreck and tearing parts of the hull off for minerals in their actual bodies, I think they're much more adapted to high levels of elements than anyone thinks. Hell even the reapers come a calling hoping to find some juicy little meals, although I don't understand why they would chase the player seeing as how he's like 100000x smaller than them. That would be like running a marathon only to get a peanut at the end for your trouble.
@@Neoprenesiren If you manage too scan a Reaper and read the PDA. It says that Reapers are all muscle and very little brain. Which probably explains why they eat basically anything
On thing, Mat: a terrestrial boat doesn't usually have an ocean entry speed in excess of mach 1. It's entirely possible that the Aurora skipped across the surface of the water (owing in part to the fact that, according to the lore, the ship's captain was still alive and driving until the end) and only then ended up landing in the raised, volcanic crater we all know and love. Alternatively, if the cutscenes/trailers are to be taken as gospel, the ship may have traveled for some distance entirely underwater, producing all the effects you describe, excepting the fact it would have been in the "ecological dead zone", and because of the relative incompressibility of water would have little visible effect on the game location, which is an unspecified distance from the theoretical initial point of aquatic entry.
The water bottles might be made of iron. You just need 1 bladder fish to make a bottle of water. No plastic needed in crafting, meaning the bottle is made up of something in the fish's body. Perhaps a amalgam of calcium and iron.
When the aurora explodes, you fix the radiation problem quite quickly and also most metals you find are already in the water, like copper, also again the water bottles are only made of bladderfish so they're not plastic at all, so it seems like we didn't do much but help the planet
Gotta give this one to MatPat, yea they are in the water but copper, other materials are solid. Its not like with sugar, if you will put sugar in water it will mix, but thats not how it works with copper in game (At least i think thats how it works lol)
“You ruined the ecosystem, you landed on this planet” M’dude i crashed on the planet. But I do think you forgot a lot of major plot points, the ecosystem wasn’t fine to begin with. Most animals are also resistant to radiation. So we actually did save the planet by curing the Khaara virus. This isn’t earth, this is an entire different planet. This is also waaaaay in the future. I love your channel and I’d love it (and I know I’m not the only one) if you redid this theory :)
I agree very much. Subnautica has some of the biggest lore I’ve seen in any game. I love this game so much and I think if he could research this game heavily. He would have many more content on this game.
I mean, yeah? Based on the records we find, this ship sounded almost like a luxury cruise. Some of them were literally there basically on vacation I think. It's not like they wouldn't feed their employees. FOOD is the one thing that's plentiful when you're looking around this ship. There's even a food COURT. They probably make you BUY all the food, but they still HAVE it.
Honestly dropped the ball on researching here, while the video itself has a high as ever production quality, using models of plastic waste when there are little to none platics used in the game is just odd, khara has and would have had longer lasting effects on the planet wiping out life as we know it, not even mentioning the ecological dedzone when talking about the distance of the radiation or debris, or the adaptation that the aguatic life had already shown around existing crashes thriving in previous crash sites, or heck the giant gun that shot your ship out of orbit. Dissapointined is the lack of quality research here.
I'm glad you mentioned the instigating incident. It isn't humans that caused the crash, it was a giant fricking laser gun from the Archetects that shot it down.

If you want a reason as to why the aurora’s crash isn’t as devastating as it should have been potentially the voice log of the captain would explain that as his last log is him saying “I’m attempting a controlled descent”
@@jebblottin92 Nah they aren’t just made like that everywhere in the games universe. It’s the elements within the mushrooms that the fabricator utilizes. But the fabricator breaks down the raw materials, and utilizes those for the production of new materials.
@the golden doomslayer True, Technically the reapers near the aurora didn't seem to suffer much damage from either the radiation or the explosion itself, as well as the fact that the radiation that spreads from the reactor explosion doesn't seem to affect fauna in the nearby biomes either, so it seems likely that the fauna generally is immune to radiation.
Matpat: claims we killed the planet: all the stalkers, sandsharks, peepers, hover fish, bladder fish, reapers and all the life pods and Riley Robinson: is that a challenge
I have to heavily disagree with this it’s not the player’s fault it goes back further than that, you forgot to mention a few things. The Aurora would of never crashed if it wasn’t shot down by the “Quarantine Enforcement Platform” made by the what GameTheory called “The Architects” I’m going to call them the “precursors” because that’s what I’m used to saying. Okay anyways the Aurora never would have stopped by planet 4546B the planet subnautica takes place in if the Degasi spacecraft before was never shot down. The Aurora’s primary mission was to construct phase gates, but it’s second was to search for the survivors of the Degasi years earlier similar to how Sunbeam tries to rescue you in the earlier parts of the game. Similar to Sunbeam and the Aurora the Degasi was shot down by Quarantine Enforcement Playform which was made by the precursors. The precursors made the facility to prevent any incoming and outgoing spacecraft from carrying the Kharaa Bacteria outside the planet. So technically it’s the precursor’s fault not the player’s fault also how would the player be at fault for the ship crashing? Technically the Quarantine Enforcement Platforn never would have been activated if the Kharaa bacteria never escaped from the Disease research facility made by the precursors when it was attacked by a sea dragon leviathan and then collapsed to the sea floor. That might make you think that no, it was that leviathan’s fault, but actually no. The precursors took one of the leviathan’s eggs and then leviathan was trying to get it back and ended up realizing the bacteria, forcing the precursors to activate the Quarantine Enforcement Platform leading to the events seen in the game. Sorry if that was a long one.
"Humanity killed 4546 b! Just like we do everything!" Pretty sure that fault still lies on the dead alien race that thought it was a great idea to build an automated planitary defense cannon network that shoots down the Aurora. Oh, as well as the second ship that responds to our SOS beacon.
Not to mention that in addition to this orbital battery not giving any warning, they were the ones who released the Kharaa bacterium onto the planet, which caused massive deaths in the local biosphere and forced it to adapt to the bacterium.
16:03 this is actually explained if you DONT fix the aurora. When not fixing the aurora it says "if the aurora is not fixed in a couple days the ecosystems surrounding the area will be affected by radiation" so even tho the size of the blast and radiation is diled down WAYYYY to much it will still do the same thing it would irl
"Lifeform readings in this region are sparse. The Aurora's radioactive fallout will have devastating effects on the alien ecosystem if not contained within the next 24 hours." If you wait for a day to pass in game time NOTHING HAPPENS. Also, Subnautica below zero retconned this whole thing.
You also got add the other two ships that have crashed there. The Aurora was sent to a phase gate, but also to investigate what happened to the “Degasi”. The Degasi was another ship that also crashed on the island. Then, after the Aurora crashed, another ship called “Sunbeam” (or is that the name of the captain?) went to investigate and got obliterated by the alien cannon
technically the kharaa is what almost killed the planet, the precursors were trying to find a cure in the planet but a sea dragon broke their base and the infection got out. so they kinda did but not on purpose

It also landed at on a bunch of holes to the lava zone.

@@IrradiatedNova that is true
Hello Matpat, excuse my possibly clunky use of the english language.
I was really excited about a Subnautica theory because of the incredible lore this beautiful game has to offer. This however turned out to be more of a TeamSeas ad then a theory. Believe me when I say, I'm a big fan of your theories in general, but this time just a pinch of actual research lets it fall apart. Please see the following evidence:
The Impact of the craft being catastrophic:
Logs you can find in the game (e.g.
The waste of the Aurora being a danger to the ecosystem:
While there certainly will be an impact of some items on that ship, it should be argued that a civilization this advanced will not rely on plastic as the material of their products.
The radiation (could also insert dissolved chemicals) being a danger to the wildlife of 4546B:
As it has been said, the radiation as a result of the leaking drive core would dissipate after a while, should the breaches be sealed.
This needs to be top comment..

this comment was more interesting than the entire episode
The creatures in Subnautica are already used to (small amounts of) radiation. Here’s my proof: in most deeper biomes you can find radioactive crystals exposed underwater. The PDA talks about the radiation, and when you pick them up you can hear a Geiger counter make a radioactive sound. Reapers and Sandsharks thrive close enough to the Aurora even right after the explosion where the effects would be highly fatal for us without the proper equipment. Even jellyrays which have barely any protection behave normally in high doses of radiation. We might have killed a lot of the wildlife, but certainly not most of it.
Not to mention the bleeders living A ok inside the most radioactive place on the map

We shouldve told the aliens that we didnt want to get shot down, what a mistake
Hi! As someone who’s played this game dozens of times, I have a *few* things to say about this theory:
While the area surrounding the crash site doesn’t seem as damaged as it should be, the surface is only a small part of this game.
Sorry, not to be “that guy,” but I feel very passionately about this game and its story :)
I understand that the cause for this theory is greater than just a video game and it’s pretty cool you guys are raising money to clean our non-fictional oceans!

@@7Seraphem7 just don’t go outside 😎
It's been awhile since I last played but I was under the impression we were passing by and the laser shot us because we got too close to the planet.

if I remember correctly, the AURORA's captain PDA states he remained in the ship to land it in one piece ( aka controlled emergency landing )

I was about to say it was mostly because of the architects for putting a massive gun that shoots anything that gets close
its not that the architects didnt plan correctly, the gun was supposed to strand you on the planet as to prevent spreading of the bacteria to other planets. they thought dooming that planet was better then letting many planets get infected. but yeah a forcefield would be much better, but would also inspire hypotethical "space pirates" to break through it

I know right.
The captain goes down with his ship in order to make sure that it lands in one piece, and before the explosion the aurora is clearly in one piece. But Mat doesn't even acknowledge this, he acts as if the ship had been thrown at the planet instead of landing on it. Everything is downhill from there.

True, true.

Y’all say there are better games for him to do this theory with but let’s be real. You probably would not have watched this without subnautica’s name slapped on the title of the vid.
Matt... As someone who actually played the game, I can say that so much of this was wrong.
- Aurora was shot down by the Architect quarantine laser platform and the captain still had some control of the ship, slowing it down enough to not hit as hard
- all crafted things in the game were made specifically out of the surrounding flora/fauna, leaving it to be fully biodegradable
- batteries and the reactor core were all well contained enough to not leak as much as you said
- nutrient blocks had no packaging whatsoever, and Alterra is kinda bad when it comes to treating its employees so not as many nutrient blocks were made
- the Kharaa virus was cured by the player, making the second game possible
- the alien creatures living there already may have been immune to the radiation poisoning, like the Reaper Leviathans swimming around and the Biters + Crabs waltzing and swimming within

Well it was the architects who built the weapon that shot down the aurora in the first place soooo….

And didn’t the radiation leak get fixed?
Just a quick edit: Matt, I'm sure no one means to bash your message (hopefully at least), but there were a few key details missing in your theory. that being said, I think another game that could also serve to help the message is Raft Survival as it's a little closer to home. Keep up the good work, your episodes are always really gripping to watch!
Lore-wise it would actually be incorrect to say that it's the human's fault for causing the pollution in the first place. *SPOILER WARNING, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED OF THE SPOILER*
The crash was caused by the architect's global defense system. So while yes the human's brought the trash and other pollutants to 4546b, it was by no means their fault, per say. That being said, you forgot to mention the other ship that gets shot down, if you don't disable the global defense system in time, and all the pollutants that get brought along with it.
The sad part is this isn't even that huge of a spolier it happens super early and matt should have know this.
(a couple of things)
In the game, in order to actually leave the planet, you need to repair the drive core, which means no more radiation.

Love you Matt, but I have some holes in your theory/ comments:
1. All of the plastics we find, and things like food and batteries, are store in titanium storage crates. So unless opened by the player on purpose, they shouldn't get out and contaminate the water
I think this would stop a lot of damage from spreading outside of the playable area, and especially stop much damage from occurring to the rest of the planet
I think the species most at risk is the Ghost Leviathan, the ones that live in the Void specifically. Since they generally eat microorganisms.
In the logs you find later in the game, you find that this is the only living area on the planet due to the peepers spreading the cure enzyme through alien water vents
@@happsk1211 which turns out to be false because sector 0 is still fine
plus, you quickly manage to stop the radiation spill of the ship and the packaging of the food is probably not made out of plastic giving that there are LITERAL MOLLECULE FABRICATORS, so cellulose would just be much more cheap
Great point
To be fair, most plastic are actually an organic polymer.
According to Data Bank Entry, Fabricators are essentially just atomic-level 3D printers, they can't change elements themselves. Maximum they can do is change molecules, so I guess there's a supply of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, etc.
One thing you forgot to add:
“I an attempting a… controlled descent…” - captain if the Aurora in the Subnautica trailer
Subnautica according to matpat:
Janitor: Im bored lets dive our ship into a random planet
Captain: ight bet
Janitor: oh no we crashed....

And even though companies don’t have a good track record with caring for the environment the company that made the Aurora is designed for space travel and exploration you don’t hear any lore about other planets they have visited but I am sure with all that they have made they have learned how to affect the planet in the most little way possible even if their ships land and leak radiation everywhere. little right little wrong, the Emperor actually specifies she couldn't communicate with the Architects (likely due to their bodies not being organic like ours and thus their consciousnesses not being within her reach telepathically) and they were unable to force the incubation, They never hurt the Emperor but also didn't actively help the situation either. The peeper system also was NOT done by the Architects, the system the peepers use is for water cycling like for air and the like the peepers which are within game lore rather smart actually, just realized they could also use the system and the emperor used them to spread what little help it could.
You be thor and ill be odin
You rodent am omnipotent
The way that Mr Beast definitely has 30 million dollars to clean up the ocean with so why is he asking all us ordinary Joes and Janes to donate?
Game Theory: You killed the ocean in Subnautica
Ghost Leviathans: are you sure about that?
what about the dugasi, he didnt even mention it
The Ghost leviathans hatch and grow within the cave systems, then move out to the dead zone once they grow too big, so that cycle would be disrupted as well.
@@thestrategistbrit the Degasi was a very small ship. It carried only 6 people.
@@kuparisiipi5173 well it wouldn't have a big effect on them because they hatch in the lost river which is 600 meters down.
@@kuparisiipi5173 not to mention that they are filter feeders, so with microorganism populations disrupted the ghost leviathans would be hurting
Matpat, you're forgetting a couple things:
1) the first subnautica game is taking place in a dormant volcano.
@@FenekkuKitsune I think your correct but they said that a few people on board had been given a secret mission to check the missing people that crashed (I forgot the names)

mat pat: “you killed the planet!”
me: “well i’m sorry we got shot down by an alien enforcement turret, my fault”
So we can assume that they have removed the Aurora or at least torn the vessel into smaller parts so they can be tossed into orbit
We also know 1 other thing we know that the Aurora wasn’t traveling that fast when it hit the ocean ground, the Trailer for Subnautica starts with the captain of the vessel saying and I quote.
And not to mention the PS4 trophy for doing that: extinction event avoided
Which probably explains why they eat basically anything
yeah, you can see uranium deposits liying around exposed to the seawater, it is not like the fish wont survive a little bit more radiation
MatPat: It’s just a game theory, his famous last words before quitting😢
The water bottles might be made of iron.
You just need 1 bladder fish to make a bottle of water.
No plastic needed in crafting, meaning the bottle is made up of something in the fish's body.
Perhaps a amalgam of calcium and iron.
Or that's just to prevent it from looking like we're straight sucking water out of the bladder fish
or the fish's skin
mabye the leftover bones
The bottles actually made of a thin steel
@@mrbreadcat9969 if its made from metal it would be rather titanium than steel
When the aurora explodes, you fix the radiation problem quite quickly and also most metals you find are already in the water, like copper, also again the water bottles are only made of bladderfish so they're not plastic at all, so it seems like we didn't do much but help the planet
Also sandsharks, reapers and cave crawlers were surviving the radiation just fine
Gotta give this one to MatPat, yea they are in the water but copper, other materials are solid. Its not like with sugar, if you will put sugar in water it will mix, but thats not how it works with copper in game (At least i think thats how it works lol)
“You ruined the ecosystem, you landed on this planet”
M’dude i crashed on the planet.

Nah they aren’t just made like that everywhere in the games universe. It’s the elements within the mushrooms that the fabricator utilizes. I mean the best example I can think of is the enameled glass, it uses stalker teeth. Stalkers don’t exist on earth, well not these kinds of stalkers. But the fabricator breaks down the raw materials, and utilizes those for the production of new materials.
What are the boxes made out of then?
@the golden doomslayer True, Technically the reapers near the aurora didn't seem to suffer much damage from either the radiation or the explosion itself, as well as the fact that the radiation that spreads from the reactor explosion doesn't seem to affect fauna in the nearby biomes either, so it seems likely that the fauna generally is immune to radiation.
And the water bottles have no confirmed material

And the Degasi. Oh, and the Mercury II. Also, they introduced the disease to the planet in the first place.
