Don’t Make This Mistake In Doubles (Pro Tennis Strategy)
1. When you lob over your opponents, quickly out your toes on the service line
2. When you are lobbed, both players should move way back and hit a high lob back

Ryan: "When you hit a successful lob, where are you supposed to go?"
Me: "Both players up to the net, clearly!"
Ryan: "I'll tell you where you're NOT supposed to go. Up to the net."
Me: ...
Hahaha when I said that in the video I knew people would think “up to the net!!” Haha hope this videos helps you Mike!
hahaha Mike I said the same thing...all pompous and smug about it...obviously.
Being doubles player I always enjoy your instruction on what to do and what not to do. Thanks
Hey Ryan I would love to see you upload a video where you’re playing a game. Your strokes are very smooth and it would be nice to see how it would translate in-game.
Would love to see a video on how to respond to deep lobs. I play against a lobster and can’t figure out if I’m supposed to overhead it or wait until it drops and hit a forehand or run around my backhand when it’s on add side. I feel so confused and miss hit them often ugh
Hi Nicole. Common issue. One thing you can do is purposely hit short to bring the opponent in. Getting them inside the baseline means they won’t have the benefit of the court length and they’ll need to hit lower. Try hitting all returns short and have them basically stand in no man’s land for the rally. They’ll need to aim lower and the. You can hit deep to their feet. Most pushers don’t like coming to Net. They just want to be way back behind the baseline lobbing the ball up high. You can even try moving in to take the high lob out of the air with a volley and hit it short to bring them inside the baseline. Thanks!!!
Jack, I know that tennis has a lot to do with taking the opponent's reaction time in the most diverse shots, but in a situation like this, with a very high lob, it's not a good option to let the ball bounce and then smash with more security ?
yes what you're saying is correct.
Awesome lob, degree of difficulty with underspin instead of topspin? Whew! Incredible!!! Excellent video Ryan 👍
When chasing down deep lobs with the back to the net you will almost always be hitting a topspin lob. Don't think I've ever seen underspin lob in that scenario. The underspin backhand lob is typically hit when stretched wide and moving laterally.
@@Better_Call_Raul unusual for sure and placement was inch perfect. It's an odd 2 handed~1 handed slice. I guesstimate he undercuts the ball about the 5 oclock MAYBE 4 oclock position. Heighth was nothing but class too.
I am surprised he didn't let the overhead drop and take a crack at it. I know that my coaches always said if you let the ball bounce you loose control over the point.
Another great video Ryan. Thank you. But Jamie Moyer?!? 🤣. Do you mean the former world number 1 doubles player and brother of Andy Murray? 😁
Haha so funny. So I was talking about “Jamie Moyer”, the former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher, to my friend earlier today. I then mistakenly said that name during the video. When I rewatched it and laughed at myself for saying that name. I decided to just leave it bc I rarely edit my videos due to time. Good catch! Yes, I’m well aware it’s Jamie Murray. Haha thanks!
I appreciate the content you are sharing and this was a really helpful video. I tend to close the net after lobbing with my partner staying back. Makes a lot of sense to stay on the service line.
@@2MinuteTennis Greg Rusedski literally can’t pronounce Murray either, so I thought you had the same problem! Its quite embarrassing for Greg because he does lots of tennis commentary...
@@dominiclester3232 haha so funny. Yeah when I notice a screw up on my part with editing I just leave it. Not worth doing it all over again. Thanks so much!!!
@@2MinuteTennis As long as you realise the rest of us are all perfect 😂
Doesn't a smart player let a super high, but short lob bounce? If both opponents go back to defend the smash (which I do agree is the best play) doesn't bouncing the high ball give the attacking player time to time and place the overhead more effectively?
Bounce overheads are very rarely practiced. It’s not as easy as it sounds.
Hey Ryan, when playing indoors is height still more important than depth? Sometimes I find it difficult to NOT hit the ceiling when trying...just wondering your thoughts indoor vs outdoor for this.
the guy with the white t-shirt and black shorts is Soares a brazilian
Jamie would have buried that 99 times out of a 100.
