Got it! High volley, hit to the closes person. Low volley, hit to the farthest person.

Doubles strategy is based on moving with the ball and playing a zone similar to tactics in other sports. Multi sports athletes tend to pick up on this in my high school tennis coaching experience. Good doubles is about setting up a two on one situation where your partner hits to a position on the court and you cut off the return. In a way it’s similar to good basketball tactics. Doubles is difficult because it requires lots of different skills to implement tactics. Back in my day we played lots of serve and volley singles so we adjusted to doubles because we had developed the volley and overhead skills. Today it’s more of a grip it and rip it forehand game with occasional net play. I see lots of doubles that looks like 4 people playing singles. Two players hit and two watch the rally and protect the alley.

Very nice, some of these things I was doing without recognizing. Understanding our actions makes them repeatable.

Great advice. Now i understand more about being the aggressor and defender. I always though that my role in net is just defending my side. Thanks a lot

Good info: I’m finding that, including myself, lol, that good players are not always good doubles players.
This info can help narrow the disparity.
    Thx…

Great tactics to implement in my doubles game. However, sometimes I feel there is not enough time to react to the visual cues when the opposing net person is getting into position to take advantage of a short ball and I too am at the net. Maybe my partners are just not keeping it cross court enough? Not sure how to really resolve this as it happens over and over.
