I appreciate this video!! Definitely the best one for what I had to do! Had a bolt broke off in a bolt hole for the starter that I almost didn’t catch and was only just a few days away from dropping my motor in my truck! Did exactly what was shown in your video and it came right out! Thank you again!

Once again a very good video my friend. Please let me add my 2 cents. I've been drilling out broken bolts for over 40 years as an airplane mechanic. My word of advice is when you drill into steel its with low speed and high pressure. When you drill into non ferrous metals as aluminum and copper it is with a high speed and low pressure. That along with some good lubrication will save your drill bits from heating up and dulling out. Also if you drill steel with high speed what happens is you work harden the surface and will make it very difficult to get another bit to drill into the surface. Thanks again and I really like them easy outs your using.
I've said before, I don't know why they even make right handed bits anymore except to remove left handed threads. I'll never buy another right handed bit set.
Broken studs are always an adventure. 7/10 times I end up drilling out and chasing the threads with a tap. Usually because the last guy didn't put never-seize on when they should've.
saved this video to my play list and gave a thumbs up! simple, great info and no 6 minute intro to blankly stare at. i just have one critique - i would use left handed drill bits instead. sometimes the snapped off bit will twist in the direction of the drill bit, and it's better for it to come out rather than further into the hole. keep up the good work!
The best way is to lay a nut on top of it, then wire feed weld the center of the nut to the broken bolt/stud and while still hot, unscrew it. Best way to remove them ever!!
ya most people dont have that gear. would need to take it to a shop. like me I think im gona have to. ive got left hand bits but I dont have the space get do the work

Thanks friend. Needed a reminder after being out a while. Broke two brittle bolts off in a 20+ year old power steering pump. Heres to extracting, although can’t use the big bit method it’ll mess with the seal on those job, but I’ll try it in the future.
This was the best video on removing a broken bolt, that Iv'e seen yet.It has educated me alot, and this is what I will try and do next time. Thanks alot for a great video.

If you have a small MIG welder, tack a worn out driver bit to the broken bolt and then wind it out with a drill... the bonus is that the heat shocks/loosens the bond due to expansion/contraction. It works every single time. Give it a try if you don't have these ez outs but you have a wire welder...
AN you are correct we do the mig welder every week it seems but with this channel based on the DIYer that doesn't have that tool we share how they can still have success with simple hand tools
Hey Mike :) I haven't commented for a bit. Been busy coming up with a plan to find and have a custom-built RV for the Mrs. & I. (A van-type RV on a Promaster.) So I've been pretty busy in the past few weeks. Nice job on showing us another way to get broken studs / screws out. I hadn't ever thought about the "setup process" you went thru before you backed it out with the extractor. I can see how that would make it a lot easier. Take care my friend. See you on the flip side. And as always, thanks for sharing your talents with all of us.
Thanks for the tip! I sheared off a starter motor bolt on my Chevelle and had to remove header. I started with a larger, then smaller drill bit like you said. Then the screw extractor and presto it was out.
I want to see you extract a steel bolt that has been broke off flush in an aluminum engine block under the header where you cant see it. This is quickly turning into an engine out procedure.
Well, it always depends on how much tenacity you have, we will do whatever it takes to get a busted bolt out. Thanks for watching and sharing, have a great day and all the best on your project my friend, I feel your pain. :( mad Mike the hammer SPC
I use a very small socket over the end of the extractor and the ratchet which i found helps to get a better starting grip bc you can put just a little pressure on it ... had to remove a snapped pinch bolt and another anti roll bar bolt that both snapped bc of rust ...worked brilliant 🙏
If the broken bolt is jagged or raised, you can use a large flat punch to flatten out the bolt center which makes it easy to get your center punch in the right spot.
i've broken three of this bolt extractor on a very very rusted bolts. in this demonstration is no rust seen so everything go by plan and so easy. only solution is welding a nut on a broken bolt.
Well after you broke the first extractor, common sense would tell you that you need to heat it up then it would come right out rust or no rust. Thanks. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Yes thanks for showing telling about that , I’ll be taking off my heads off my 460 v8 . Got three bolds broke off each side 6 all together. Thanks see ya bye bye

I have a broken bolt in my motorcycle. Drilled a hole dead center and got a great tight fit with the extractor. Extractor sheared in half. Tried coming in from the back and have two broken bits to show for it.
Well, 99% of the time you need to put heat on them to get them out, your best bet now is to take it to your local motorcycle shop and have them remove it. If you had it here at our shop, we'd get that bolt out. Thanks for watching my friend, have a great week and all the best on your project. mad Mike & team
Nice job on a very easy extraction. But if you're from Michigan, as you implied, you won't see many of those squeaky clean, finger-tight "challenges" because they aren't the kind of bolts/studs that tend to snap off.
We did this for example only, but we've used this many, many, many times on rusted bolts. Granted, in the rustbelt of the world grabbing the acetylene torch set is almost a must. Thanks for watching. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Ohio weather stinks too lately here in Youngstown area but I lived in Sterling Heights for a few years of my life and couldn't stand the Detroit area, no offense , too crowded for me , too much traffic , up north of Detroit was nice but 15 mile was a lot of traffic and car plants everywhere .
Thanks for the video! The two sets of screw extractors in the show more info are not the ones in the green pouch that you used for this video. Do you have a link or can you provide the name for that one? Thanks
I once snapped the bolt of of a lower idler pulley on a 4runner 4.0L v6. Forum guy said it was left hand thread, wrong! What a nightmare, broke 2 ez outs, and had to drill them out.
That’s nice if the head just broke off, what if it’s rusted in there also? Like a license plate bolt where you can’t use heat because you’re damage the paint?
My problem is the bolt I'm trying to drill out is so hard, that my cobalt drill bits can't penetrate, even glass and tile bits can't, they just brake or strip out. I need to weld a washer and the bolt into it, is my only hope.. I'm in a tough spot so I have to remove the knuckle to get the brake caliper bracket bolt out and or lay it flat like you have it, to get a good drill on it.
You need to drill it with this amzn.to/3CnksBw they drill through anything, and make sure you soak it down with this tinyurl.com/bdf6a6ky it works 10 times better than blaster and will make the job far easier. Thanks for the view, hope this helps, have a great day. mad Mike
I have broken many left hand drills, easy-outs, torx bits. It is game over once you break these bits off. You want to turn harder to get the bolt, then the bit breaks. One of the worst things to go through in life.
Glad it helped Tyler!! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your results, we really appreciate it, have a great week my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
How high of a torque rating do you think those would work to as far as backing a bolt out? I had a brain fart and overtightened a water pump bolt and it broke off pretty deep in maybe 3/8" down in the hole. 20-30 ft lbs when I was supposed to be doing inches. Kinda freaking out I won't be able to get it out. And was just doing a favor for one of the nurses who takes care of my grandma..I've never had this happen lol.
Hello, my friend, don't feel too bad, we've all done it :( I can remember when I was bolting a 20-horse Briggs and Stratton motor back together and the crankcase bolts said something like what I thought was 20 ft-lbs. for the 10 bolts and at that point something wasn't registering and I thought that was a lot for an aluminum case motor. So I sat for a second, went and re-read the instructions and low and behold it was "inch lbs" so I caught it before I did it, that would not have been good. Sorry to hear about your situation. If you use this amzn.to/3iuskfZ just make sure that you drill the hole as dead center in the busted bolt as you can, then use these amzn.to/3b9qUBz and it should come out, you may have to use one of these amzn.to/3B10iPw while you are removing it. Thank you for watching and sharing, have a great day and all the best on your project. mad Mike the hammer SPC
When the check engine light comes on (9 out of 10) is the fuel cap..! Some fuel caps are very expensive and you may have to go to a dealer to solve the problem and order. Takes times.! right..?that cost a lot of money..! But if you change the O Ring you can do it yourself and fix it for pennies..lol..! Also you can make a vid about it..!
How do you remove rusted nut (stripped) from car exhaust tip? Drilled rusted bolt out after head broke with impact wrench, but the nut looks fused to the part metal Tried Easy Off and PB Blaster. Don't want to have to replace the exhaust tips.
You are going to have to put a little heat to it my friend. Acetylene torches are probably the only way you are going to do it. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great week and all the best on your project. mad Mike
Does it work with screws that are a little rusted in? I mean not completely rotten screws, just stuck enough that you don't get them the first time around with your screwdriver/wrench and strip the head.
This is what we use for stainless steel amzn.to/30PSbDK not sure what size you need but this kit will cover them all. Thanks for the question, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Drill hole in bolt dead center, put bolt on threaded, then drill thought bolt to get center dril hole . Then remove bolt. Drill hole for extractor. Less chance you will damage threads.
These amzn.to/3b9qUBz and just a reminder, all of the products/tools we use in our videos can always be found in the ...MORE of the videos description, see here 3c5.com/4u6dj if you can't find it let us know and we will help you. Thanks for watching. mad Mike the hammer SPC
It depends on the size of the bolt you are removing, always go one half the size for the drill bit and extractor compared to the bolt size. So if you have a 1/2" bolt you will use a 1/4" drill bit and the appropriate extractor. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and asking Ryan! Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Hello Robert, this amzn.to/2XXo1Qq is the best you can buy, chances of breaking one is near zero. The pack that you saw in the green package are prone to strip out, we do not use those anymore. Thanks for watching and asking, we appreciate it my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Try it HaYn, also see this ruclips.net/video/Cd5aqurqqig/видео.html it is another option for you. Thanks for watching and asking, good luck to you on your project my friend, been there done that! mad Mike the hammer SPC
I am trying to remove broken crank bolts from the flexplate the center ones ..and I got lucky enough to get one bolt but there is 5 more and it's killing me . My first question is : can I remove 4 if the bolts to reboot the flexplate to the crank ? And my second question is : isn't there an easier way to get the others out , they're broken below the bolt hole .
Ok, and do they make one for the long skinny mounting bolts that hold a starter motor? I decided to challenge myself and break it way deep in a tiny hole near the flywheel of my Cummins marine
Watch this video ruclips.net/video/Cd5aqurqqig/видео.html we ran into the same thing, it was our only option and it sounds like where you are at my friend. Hope this helps, have a great weekend Rabbit. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I feel for you my friend, one of the reasons we moved from MI almost 2 years ago to Florida was to be able to work on my vehicles when I want..... that is such a horrible situation, I remember it well :( Thanks for watching and sharing, all the best to you my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Not likely. Assuming you mean a wheel lug stud, most of those are driven or pressed in from the "back" and are removed by driving them out with a punch. (They don't unscrew, so the extractors won't work.) With some designs you can install the new stud by inserting it into the hole and pulling it tightly with a lug nut (with spacer washers if required). Other designs require you to remove the hub to get good enough access to drive or press the new lug.
Very good tips. Newer to your channel. Like what you have. I recently here someone say that a carbide concrete bit drills into hardened steel really well. Might be a good idea for you to try. And make a video.

... or worse some idiots put lock-tite that somewhat bonded with threads
naa its just over torqued bolts. I just busted 2 out of 4 cause 2 were not to spec. never over tighten
Great tip on how to get the hole centered. That's always been a huge issue....no more!!! Thanks Captn'
I literally watched tons of these. The best one on line is right here. Nobody else clarifies shit.

I had tried the counter screw extractor with no luck. After using your suggested drilling technique I was able to remove the stuck oil due drain plug.

If you had it here at our shop, we'd get that bolt out. Thanks for watching my friend, have a great week and all the best on your project. mad Mike & team
@@SweetProjectCars Thanks for the reply.
Outstanding vid! I bought that stuff figuring it would come with instructions. 🤣
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching and sharing Jason, have a great weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC

What a nightmare, broke 2 ez outs, and had to drill them out.
chris that truly sucks for sure my friend

Thanks for the view, hope this helps, have a great day. mad Mike
The problem I see is that broken bolt is pristine never broke one of those
I have broken many left hand drills, easy-outs, torx bits. It is game over once you break these bits off. You want to turn harder to get the bolt, then the bit breaks. One of the worst things to go through in life.
I'm with you on that my friend. Ugh! Thank you for watching and commenting, hope you have a great week. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Thank you. This was super helpful for a non-handy guy like me. Got a cheese-head bolt out of a chevy trax.
Glad it helped Tyler!! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your results, we really appreciate it, have a great week my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Going to give this a try. Thanks

Hello say I trying to remove a grade 8 broken bolt. I have had no luck, used all drills blaster etc. Grade 8 is a very hard steel, have any ideas? Thx
you are going to have to find out how to get a acetylene torch on it that will be the only way at this point mad mike
Nice vid..!Hi How we can fix a leaking fuel cap..? Can the big o ring be changed..? Ty..!
I would look online and just replace it as they are very cheap
When the check engine light comes on (9 out of 10) is the fuel cap..! Some fuel caps are very expensive and you may have to go to a dealer to solve the problem and order. Takes times.! right..?that cost a lot of money..! But if you change the O Ring you can do it yourself and fix it for pennies..lol..! Also you can make a vid about it..!
Thanks for the video! Got yourself another subscriber 👍
Awesome, thank you! Welcome aboard my friend! Glad to have you with us, hope you have a fantastic day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Does this work well on a smaller scale for standard screws burnt out Philips heads?
Yes it does, it works great for that. Thanks for watching and asking. Have a fantastic day. mad Mike the hammer SPC

That was nice thanks i have a broken bolt on my engine block that supports the bracket that hold the motor mount

Mine too...
Thanks for watching and asking, have a great week and all the best on your project. mad Mike
@@SweetProjectCars Thanks
Does it work with screws that are a little rusted in? I mean not completely rotten screws, just stuck enough that you don't get them the first time around with your screwdriver/wrench and strip the head.
it works on rusted bolts as well my friend
What type of drill bit to use (titanium, cobalt etc)? I need to drill out a small stainless steel screw. Thanks in advance.
This is what we use for stainless steel amzn.to/30PSbDK not sure what size you need but this kit will cover them all. Thanks for the question, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
What type of drill is the black coded one you used to drill out stud before using the extractor?
This amzn.to/2JbQnN5 is what we use. Thanks for watching and asking. Sorry for our delayed response. Hope this helps, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Drill hole in bolt dead center, put bolt on threaded, then drill thought bolt to get center dril hole . Then remove bolt. Drill hole for extractor. Less chance you will damage threads.
Thanks for watching and sharing, have a great day. mad Mike
Great tip Mike. I have used these a couple of times and they are fantastic indeed!
I’ve had decent luck with some other OEM Tools….what part number is that set?

Simple and AMAZING. thanks Mike my friend. 👍😎👍

Thank you Brian we truly appreciate that
What size screw extractor did you use? Also what drill bit sizes did you use?
It depends on the size of the bolt you are removing, always go one half the size for the drill bit and extractor compared to the bolt size. So if you have a 1/2" bolt you will use a 1/4" drill bit and the appropriate extractor. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and asking Ryan! Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Great tip, this will be very helpful at work, thank you
Glad it was helpful Joshua! Thank you for watching and sharing, we really appreciate it. Hope you have a great weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I did not see the screw extractors in the green case you used listed below. I hit on all of them.
I have a bolt i was trynna torque to 300 ftlbs. But got it to like 275ftlbs when it snapped, do i have a chance doing it this way ?
You may need to take the vehicle into a professional if the bolts are broken off flush to the crank sorry to hear this
Ok, and do they make one for the long skinny mounting bolts that hold a starter motor? I decided to challenge myself and break it way deep in a tiny hole near the flywheel of my Cummins marine
Watch this video ruclips.net/video/Cd5aqurqqig/видео.html we ran into the same thing, it was our only option and it sounds like where you are at my friend. Hope this helps, have a great weekend Rabbit. mad Mike the hammer SPC
In MI too... doing a wheel bearing in snow storm today sheered damn bolt behind the thing by the shock... can't see anything back there:(
I feel for you my friend, one of the reasons we moved from MI almost 2 years ago to Florida was to be able to work on my vehicles when I want..... that is such a horrible situation, I remember it well :( Thanks for watching and sharing, all the best to you my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Will this work with lug stud that has broken off? The studs welded but I manage to get all but one off. Plzzz helf
Give it a shot, works for us every time. Thanks for watching and asking. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Another great extract, fabulous
Same approach for a cross-threaded bolt with broken off head?
Definitely worth a try Daus. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Very good tips. Newer to your channel. Like what you have.
I recently here someone say that a carbide concrete bit drills into hardened steel really well. Might be a good idea for you to try. And make a video.
Brilliant tips on drilling, thank you
kevin you are very welcome
Awesome job
Thanks first time ever! I hope it isn't beginners luck! If I ever have to do it again!
I didnt know others were this oblivious.
